THE JOCKSTRAP RAIDERS - WWI Animated Short

Here's a great World War I set animated short called The Jockstrap Raiders. The story follows "a group of misfits during world war I. It takes place in Leeds, England where our heroes are all excluded from the war due to various abnormalities. Threatened by the invading German Kaiser and his army, they must learn to become a team and overcome their deficiencies in order to save Britain, and the world."

The short was made at UCLA by Mark Nelson as his MFA thesis project. It has won several awards that include the Student Academy Award; Best Animation, British Animation Festival; Best Animation, Macon Film Festival; Best Narrative Short GI Film Festival, and the Orlando Film Festival; Audience Award.

I thought the short was really fun and entertaining. I think you'll enjoy it so check it out!

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - International Poster Features Full Cast

Disney has released a new international poster for Pixar's Monsters University featuring the full cast of the film. I'm excited about this prequel! It looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. The question is... do you think it could be better than Monsters Inc.?

The movie hits theaters on June 21st, 2013, and it stars Billy Crystal, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Dave Foley, Julia Sweeney, Joel Murray, and Peter Sohn. Here's the most recent trailer for the movie!

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).

STAR TREK Spock Socks

Every Star Trek fan is going to want a piece of this Spock sock action! They're called "Spocks," and I think they turned out really cool! They are part of a sock design challenge, and were created by Tides who says,

Not wanting these socks would be highly illogical, for wearing them will cause you to live long and prosper. Resistance is futile. You know you find these socks on screen fascinating, and you wish to engage. Boldly go where no man has gone before and make it so. I’m giving all she’s got with these Star Trek References, Captain. KHAAANNNN!

They are now up on Threadless for voting. I'd buy pair!

MAN OF STEEL Will Feature A Young Clark Kent Being Bullied

Russell Crowe was a guest on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno recently, and while he was there he talked a little bit about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. He plays Jor-El in the movie and here's what he had to say about it,

Man of Steel, yeah. It's a reboot of the franchise with Zack Snyder who did the 300 film and a young English fellow named Henry Cavill. Superman or Kal-el as I would call him because he's my son - times have changed, I'm Superman's dad....To be able to find out that at his core and center that he has that sort of humility is a wonderful moment.

There's so much I want to know about the movie, but it will eventually all be revealed when we finally get to see it! There is another interesting bit of info that's been revealed about the story, and that is that Clark Kent will be bullied in the movie as a teenager. One of the interesting aspects of the bullying is the person that's doing it.

In the comic books, Pete Ross is Clark Kent’s childhood best friend who knew of Clark's abilities. There have been a few different stories about how Ross and Kent became friends over the years. According to the actor that plays Ross in the movie, Jack Foley, the character will actually bully Clark. In an interview with Artcenter.edu they describe Foley as "a teen actor whose character in the film bullies a young Clark Kent before the two become friends."

There's no word on the extent of the bullying that we'll see, but there comes a point where the two become friends. The fact that Kent was bullied as a kid will really show us his vulnerable side, and give a lot of people something that they can relate too. With bullying being a big issue right now this could be a powerful message in the film.

Emma Stone and Other Actresses as Slaughterhouse Starlets (NSWF)

Here's an awesome set of illustrations that shows us several Hollywood actresses in a bloody new light as slaughterhouse starlets. The set includes actresses such as the lovely Emma Stone holding a spiked bloody baseball bat, Emma Watson sporting a meat cleaver, and Zooey Deschanel with an axe of death.

The art prints were created by artist Keith P. Rein for his series of mixed-media prints called "Slaughterhouse Starlets." They all turned out pretty great, and he plans on doing about ten more that will include Aubrey Plaza, Anna Faris, and Anne Hathaway.  Here's what the artist had to say about them,

The very first one I did was of Zooey Deschanel and it started as a drawing for one of my friends for his birthday. He had a crush on Zooey, he’s a farmer, and needed a new axe for his birthday. I couldn’t buy him an axe, so I drew him Zooey with an axe.

But the overall idea was just taking these pop stars and actresses that are typically not associated with slasher films and putting them in the macabre setting.

Check out what he's done and let us know what your favorite is!

Looks Like We're Going to Get a BOONDOCK SAINTS 3

I'm a big fan of the first Boondock Saints movie, and the documentary that followed the making of it called Overnight. I didn't really care for the sequel though. It had some fun ridiculous moments, but in the end I was pretty disappointed, and it seemed like a lot of other fans were as well.

It took director Troy Duffy ten years to make the sequel, but it's looking like it won't take that long to get a third film off the ground. In case you're wondering how and why a sequel is happening, it's because the sequel actually did pretty well with home entertainment sales.

The news of Boondock Saints 3 comes from star Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) who says it might happen. Here's what he said in an interview with IFC,

I’m meeting with Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy [Duffy] tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.

If these guys want a third movie to happen I'm sure it will happen. If they are able to get something into production I hope to hell it turns out better than that sequel, because that made me not want to see anymore of these films. Are you excited about the possibility of seeing a Boondock Saints 3?

50 Years of James Bond Tribute Video

One of the things that was missing from this year's Academy Awards show was the James Bond reunion. It was supposed to happen but didn't because Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan didn't want to participate. The Academy did end up showing their own Oscar tribute video, but you've got to admit it pretty much sucked balls. It failed to capture all of those things we love about the James Bond films. You think they'd be able to come up with something better!

Well video editor Kees van Dijkhuizen jr. has created his own tribute to 50 years of James Bond, and it's a hell of a lot better than what the Academy threw together. It gives us everything that we love about Bond, and it's all done to Adele's Oscar-winning "Skyfall" song. Dijkhuizen jr. has done some great videos over the years, and I'm pretty sure you're going to love this one.

FilmDistrict has released a new TV spot and two new posters for the upcoming White House terrorist movie Olympus Has FallenAntoine Fuqua (Training Day) directed the film which stars Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan FreemanAngela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, Ashley Judd, Melissa Leo, and Rick Yune.

The movie is being described as "Die Hard in the White House," but let's be honest... we know it's not going to be as good as Die Hard. There is a chance it could be better than the last Die Hard movie though. Either way, it looks like it could bring some good solid action-packed entertainment.

When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.

The movie will be released on March 22nd, 2013. Check out the new spot!

Eight more set photos have surfaced for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 giving us our first look at Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson. We've also got another good look at Spider-Man sporting his great looking new costume. I can't wait to see what this suit looks like in action on the big screen. A lot of people thought the new suit design was a fake, but as you can see, it's very real.

The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field. Here's the official synopsis...

In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The movie was written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

FAST AND FURIOUS 6 - New Featurette and More Photos!

Universal Pictures has released a great behind the scenes featurette for the Fast and Furious 6. It features interviews with Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez who talk about how the movie is basically kind of an origin story to Letty's character. They go into some details about it. It's funny because Rodriguez didn't even know her character was coming back until she saw Fast 5.

This movie looks like it will be extremely awesome. Even people I know that aren't fans of the franchise watched the trailer for the movie, and were like... "Holy shit!" The franchise is going to be getting even better when part seven rolls around! Especially with the addition of the new villain, which you can read about here

The movie hits theaters on May 24th, 2013. To watch the trailer for the move again click here!

The Justin Lin-directed film also stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Luke Evans. Here's the synopsis...

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with$100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Seth Grahame-Smith Working on FANTASTIC FOUR Script

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter author Seth Grahame-Smith has been hired to polish up the script for FOX's Fantastic Four reboot, which was previously written by Jeremy Slater. The film is being directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle). The news comes shortly after X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn came on board to produce the film, so it looks like he's already working his magic.

There isn't much known about the story yet, but sources say that the it will be "taking a grounded superhero and sci-fi approach to the heroes and will tap deep into the comic's mythology." It will be interesting to see what villain the team ends up taking on in the movie. I know Doctor Doom is the go-to villain, but I kind of hope we see Galactus.

Now Grahame-Smith also wrote the script for Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, and I wasn't impressed with it at all so hopefully he does a better job with Fantastic Four. It's ok to be excited about this movie. Just because the first two films sucked doesn't mean the reboot will. These guys might actually give fans something really cool!

THE WOLVERINE - Two New Set Photos Feature Jackman and a Hole

Here's a couple new photos from the set of James Mangold's The Wolverine. One features Hugh Jackman looking ripped. It came with the following note,

A production snap from shooting a wood chopping scene in Omishima. We found an eight inch caterpillar that morning.

I just started working out again, and by the end of the year I'm going to have the body that Jackman is sporting in The Wolverine. I guess I should add chopping wood to my workout routine! The other image that the director released features a big hole in a wall. Here's the note that came along with that one,

A shot from when we finished work on one of Francois Audouy's amazing sets. There's a world through that blast hole.

The first trailer for the movie is set to be released next month, and I'm incredibly excited to see what it gives us! I really just want a glimpse of Wolverine in full on berserker rage, which is something I never really felt I've seen in any of the movies.

The Wolverine also stars Will Yun Lee, Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee. It's set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

PROMETHEUS 2 is Moving Forward

Regardless of the flaws in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, I still really enjoyed the movie, and I've been hoping that they would make a sequel. In a recent interview with the movie lead actress Noomi Rapace told The Playlist the following,

They're working on the script. I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago. I would love to work with him again and I know that he would like to do another one. It's just like we need to find the right story. I hope we will.

One thing we know for sure about the sequel is Damon Lindelof isn't working on the script this time around. But it will be interesting to see how the story continues from where it left off. I'm sure everyone's learned from the mistakes in the first film, and the next one will be even better. Rapace goes on to talk about what it was like shooting the movie saying,

I love working with Ridley. It was pure joy. It was really hard work sometimes. My body was a complete mess – I had bruises and cuts and emotionally I was a bit slammed. But being in his world and his universe was such an amazing experience.

She went on to discuss people's different views on the film and exploring some of these things in the sequel saying,

And it's interesting because people, most people I've talked to who see the movie, see things that are quite different. Some people who see the movie many times and discover new things. There are all these religious aspects and there are very interesting conversations. And for me, if we do a second one, there are a lot of things to explore in there and to continue. I would love to do it.

When asked who was writing the sequel, she wouldn't say. She kept quite, but someone is writing it! Hopefully they can come up with a great story and script that fans will embrace. Do you think making a sequel to Prometheus is worth doing? Are you excited to hear that there is some movement on it?

Salmon Fishing In The Yemen actor Tom Mison has landed the lead role of Ichabod Crane in the new FOX series Sleepy Hollow. The pilot for the fun sounding series is being directed by Total Recall's Len Wiseman, and was written by Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci, and Phillip Iscove

The series is a modern–day supernatural thriller based on The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, and it follows "Ichabod Crane as he partners with Sleepy Hollow’s Detective Abbie Archer (Nicole Beharie) to solve the mysteries of a town ravaged by the battle between good and evil. A captain from the Revolutionary War where he takes off a horseman’s head, Ichabod gets time warped into present day where he is confused by the modern technology but turns out to be a great detective once his enemy, The Headless Horseman, comes back to haunt the town."

Kathy Bates Joins AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 3

The third season of American Horror Story went out and got itself an Academy Award winning actress! Kathy Bates has been cast in the next season, and she will play a best friend-turned-enemy to Jessica Lange's new character in the series. It should be fun watching these two actresses at each other's throat.

As you know, this series reboots itself every season. I loved the last season and I'm looking forward to seeing what Ryan Murphy is planning for us this season. There's not a lot of details on what we will see in season 3 but Murphy said it will be more upbeat than the Asylum chapter. Here's what he had to say in a previous interview,

What season three is about is more historical in nature. I'm also interested in getting into a horror romance. That's certainly something that's going to be in the water for season three. You're going to see a very different tone in season three, but that's the joy of the show. I think as a person right now I do feel lighter and wanting to embrace something a little bit more fun.

I love that they can basically take this show, and turn it into whatever kind of horror thriller they want, and they can change up the tone, and stories they tell. Murphy has done a great job with the series, and I'm hoping to see more seasons. Bates will make a perfect addition to the cast!

BEERCADE: Arcade Game Gives Winner Free Beer

Love beer? Love video games? Well we have the perfect marriage of both of these things with Beercade: The Last Barfighter.

Yup, you read all of that correctly. An arcade game solely about the consumption of beer. Developed by The McKinney Ten Percent Ad Agency, in conjunction with Big Boss Brewing Company, this fine piece of machinery rewards the player who wins with free, good tasting beer.

The game itself takes place in a biker bar, where you will have a selection of five characters (which happen to been named after Big Boss’ brews). After a couple of rounds of fighting, kicking, setting people on fire, and even impaling someone with a unicorn horn, the winner‘s cup gets filled with cold beer. Then, drop in another quarter and do it again.

This is actually something I could see taking off at both local arcades and bars around the country. I mean, people are already there drinking, you might as well combine the two.

Here's an awesome looking new poster for Iron Man 3 that features a battle damaged Iron Man with an army of other Iron Man armor in the background ready for war. Listen to Clint Mansell's Fantastic STOKER Film Score!

Listen to the music score to one of my favorite movies of the year so far, Park Chan-wook's amazingly intense, beautifully shot film Stoker. The movie was so visually stunning, and was fantastically scored by Clint Mansell and you can listen to the hauntingly amazing soundtrack in its entirety below. For those of you who like what you hear and want to buy it, you can get it on iTunes for $10.99. This is one of those films you can't miss! You can read my review for it here.

The film stars Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, and Mia Wasikowska. Here's the synopsis...

After India's (Wasikowska's) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother Evelyn (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Stoker comes out on March 1st, 2013. Click here to watch the most recent trailer. I'm excited about being able to see the movie again! Enjoy the soundtrack!

MAMA Director to Develop a Thriller Called BIRD BOX

$

Mama director Andy Muschietti has found his next film project. He'll be developing a big screen adaptation of an upcoming book written by Josh Malerman called Bird Box. Universal Pictures optioned the manuscript for the book. There seems to be a lot of book optioning going on in Hollywood these days way before the books are even released. This book isn't even set to be released until 2014, and I imagine the movie will follow shortly after.

According to the report the story centers on "a blindfolded threesome comprised of a woman and two children who make their way down a river in a seemingly postapocalyptic setting." It's also described as being in the vein of films like Children of Men and The Others. That's all we know at this point.

This seems like it could be a good project for Muschietti to take on. I loved the first half of Mama, but thought the second half sucked ass. It could have been a great horror movie, but there were some missed opportunities. Maybe this time around he'll give us an all around solid movie.
