HUNGER GAMES Writer to Script THE MUMMY Reboot

Universal Pictures has hired The Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray to write the script for The Mummy reboot currently being developed at the studio. The movie is being produced by Joe Roth and Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. It's being directed Underworld's Len Wiseman.

What's interesting about this is that Universal previously hired Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts to write a script for this Mummy film, and Ray was hired to write a competitive script that will most likely end up being combined into one.

According to Vulture by "hiring two screenwriters to work on competing Mummy projects at the same time, the studio believes it is effectively doubling its chances that it will at least have one Mummy script that’s camera-ready by the late summer or early fall." A studio insider explains,

Studios don’t shoot movies anymore. They shoot release dates. My suspicion is that one of them will be a ‘structure-and-body’ man, and one’s going to be a ‘character-and-dialogue’ man — and that they’ll then just gang-bang them together into one script, crediting both writers, because credit arbitration is usually a nightmare.

As a fan of the original Mummy, I'm hoping this time around they make something really exciting and worth watching. We know the the film will be a modern day take on the story, and that it will include a darker scarier twist on the original material. Here's what Kurtzman had to say about the film in a previous interview,

One of the things that interested me with this mummy is, he’s still in essence a man. They haven’t turned his brain into a monster brain. He still has a personality and is very cunning and calculating. He’s a true character in any form, and in creature form, even if he is that staggering creature, it becomes more important that he’s a thinking, calculating person.

We’re reaching into the deep roots of The Mummy, which at its beating heart is a horror movie and then an action movie, and putting it into a context that is real and emotional. It’s still a four-quadrant film but as a lot of recent movies have proven, audiences are hungry for more than they used to be. You can still have a family movie, an action movie that’s more grounded than these used to be. Without saying too much, we’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from Michael Crichton’s books, and how he ground fantastical tales in modern-day science.

Michael Mann to Direct Chris Hemsworth in Cyber Threat Thriller

Michael Mann hasn't made a movie in four years. The last movie he made was 2009s Public Enemies with Johnny Depp. Mann is a great director, and I've enjoyed the movies that he's made in his career. Some of my favorites include Last of the Mohicans, The Insider, Heat, and Collateral

The filmmaker is attached to direct his next feature film for Legendary Pictures, and it will star Chris Hemsworth. There's no title or information on the film yet, other than is will take place in a world of cyber threats and attacks.

Over the years Mann has been attached to direct a couple of projects such as Gold with Christian Bale, and a racing film called Go Like Hell for Fox. None of these project ever made it into production. Hopefully this new movie actually does because his films usually turn out being great.

What's your favorite film that Michael Mann has directed?

Marc Webb Teases Spider-Man's New Mask

If you're a fan of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, I'm sure you're already following the director on Twitter. He's been posting little teaser photos from the production, which have been cool to see. The latest thing he posted was a video that offers a quick glimpse of one of the eye pieces for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man mask.

We know Spidey's going to have a new look in the film, and I can't wait to see what other changes have been made to the outfit. The tweet came alone with the hashtag, "The better to see you with." Makes me wonder if there's some kind of built in sight technology or if he's just referring to it being bigger. What do you think?

The movie is now being shot in New York City, and it's the first Spider-Man film to be shot entirely in New York. Here's the press release for that.

Columbia Pictures announced today that filming has begun on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York. The film is the first in the history of the franchise that will be filmed entirely in New York City and New York State.

The sequel to last year’s critical and box office hit The Amazing Spider-Man, the film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner, with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt, and based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are the producers.

The film’s key behind-the-scenes team includes director of photography Dan Mindel, production designer Mark Friedberg, editors Pietro Scalia and Elliot Graham, and costume designer Deborah L. Scott.

The latest chapter in the Spider-Man story is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014.

Is Felicity Jones Playing Black Cat in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2?

Felicity Jones recently confirmed that she has joined the cast of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In an interview with Dutch website RTL Netherlands she said, "I've never done a superhero movie. It's very nice to you as an actor in several worlds to go and to experiment."

There's no word on who she'll be playing in the film but there's a rumor floating around that she'll be taking on the role of Black Cat, which would be amazing! I've always wanted to see Black Cat on the big screen, and I think Jones is a great actress to take it on.

I'm not sure why they'd keep her role a secret though because they had no problem revealing that Jamie Foxx was playing Electro, and that Paul Giamatti was playing The Rhino. Makes me think she'll have a small role in this sequel, but will have a bigger role in the third film. I guess we'll just have to wait and see! For conversation sake, what do you think about the possibility of Jones playing Black Cat?

The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, and Sally Field, and here's the official synopsis...

I'm not sure when we'll see another David Fincher film, but I'm hoping his next project will be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Until he starts working on his next movie project he's been keeping himself busy. He directed the first two episodes of his Netflix series House of Cards, and then he went back to his roots and directed a music video for Justin Timberlake's new song "Suit & Tie" from his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience. He's accompanied by Jay-Z on the track. Check it out!

Here's a new extended 50-second TV spot for Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful. If you didn't think you'd see anymore new footage from the film you were wrong, because this trailer is full of new footage! It's pretty exciting stuff!

The movie will be released on March 8th, 2013, and it stars James Franco, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams, and Zach Braff.

"Oz The Great and Powerful" imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

The Notebook is one of my favorite romance movies, and I don't have any problems watching it because it's a good story and a well made film. Harrison Ford is Back for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII!?

It looks like J.J. Abrams may have locked down his first official cast member for Star Wars: Episode VII, and according to our friends at Latino Review that person is Harrison Ford! El Mayimbe was so confident about his scoop that he actually went on TV's Fox News Latino where he dropped the news that it was a done deal.

This. Is. Awesome! I hope it's true! Latino Review is rarely wrong in their scoops though. I honestly thought, out of all the original cast members, Ford would be the last one to sign on, so I'm surprised and excited that Han Solo's going to be back!

Ford is 70-years-old and he's still going strong! The legendary actor recently starred in Cowboys & Aliens and he also has roles in Ender's Game, 42, and Paranoia. I think it's so cool that he'll be returning to the franchise that launched his career. And to think... he wanted to have Han Solo killed off. Thank goodness that didn't happen.

We'll have more information for you as it becomes available!

Park Chan-wook's STOKER - Behind the Scenes Featurette

I absolutely loved this movie! Not only was it my favorite film at Sundance, but I think it might end up being one of my favorite films of the year. It really takes you on a dark and twisted Hitchcockian journey. I honestly believe this is Park Chan-wook's best film to date. I need to see it one more time before I solidify that statement. The movie included incredible performances by Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, and Mia Wasikowska It was an amazing film, and you can read my review for it here.

There's a great behind the scenes featurette for the film that includes footage from the movie and interview with the cast and crew talking about the story and characters they play. Here's the synopsis...

After India’s father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie, whom she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother, Evelyn. Soon after his arrival, India begins to suspect this mysterious, charming man has disturbing ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, the friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

The movie comes out on March 1st, 2013. Click here to watch the most recent trailer. I can't wait to see this movie again!

Director Sam Mendes Almost Back for BOND 24!

$

Director Sam Mendes did an incredible job directing the 23rd James Bond film Skyfall, and I've been hoping that he comes back to direct the 24th film! It's something he wasn't sure he would want to do again, but now the Daily Mail is reporting that Mendes is "75 percent of the way towards doing it," which is great! It may not be 100% confirmation, but at least it's something.

It was previously reported that screenwriter John Logan was writing a Bond 24 and 25 two-part story that would be shot back-to-back. According to the report that plan has been scrapped and that now the two movies will be stand alone films, which plays a part in why Mendes might be coming back to the director's chair. Apparently he didn't want to commit to a two-part story.

It was previously reported that Mendes and Logan came up with an idea for the new movie, and I can't wait to see what they've come up with! Are you excited about the possibility of Mendes coming back for more James Bond?

Breaking Bad's Dean Norris Cast in UNDER THE DOME

Breaking Bad co-star Dean Norris has been cast in the lead role of Stephen King and Steven Spielberg's new TV series Under the Dome. The story follows the residents of Chester's Mill as they deal with the postapocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town. Norris will be playing Big Jim, "the successful owner of Chester's Mill's used car dealership and a town councilman who takes his position seriously."

Brian K. Vaughan of LOST wrote the series, and the director of the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon TattooNiels Arden Ople, is directing the first episode. The series also stars Pan Am's Mike VogelTrue Blood's Aisha HindsSecret Circle's Britt RobertsonCSI: NY'Natalie MartinezJolene PurdyNicholas StrongAlex Koch, and Colin Ford.

The sci-fi drama is set to premiere on Monday, June 24th at 10 pm, and it will have 13 episodes. As a fan of the book, I'm excited to see how they end up bringing it to life in the form of a series. Here's a detailed story description:

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a selectwoman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Man Builds Incredible 140-Foot Battle of Hoth Diorama in Living Room

Holy crap, this might just be one of the most impressive things that I've seen. Star Wars super fan Barry transformed his living room into a massively epic 140-foot diorama of the "Battle of Hoth" from The Empire Strikes Back. What's even more awesome is the fact that there's no photoshopping done in these. The explosions are made out of lights that Barry built and what appears to be painted cotton.  I'd love to see this in person, but the pictures are still incredibly cool looking. Check 'em out!
