Here are the five animated short films that have been nominated for an Oscar at the 2013 Academy Awards. It's a great group of nominees this year, and it's usually been hard to watch these kinds of shorts before, so it's really cool that we are able to watch them now before the Oscars. The shorts include, Adam and Dog directed by Minkyu LeeFresh Guacamole directed by PESHead over Heels directed by Timothy Reckart and Fodhla Cronin O'ReillyMaggie Simpson in The Longest Daycare directed by David Silverman, and Paperman directed by John Kahrs.

They are all really good films, but I'm going to be rooting for Pixar's Paperman because it was so damn adorable, and I loved the animation! Watch all the shorts for yourself, and let us know what your favorite is!

Maggie Simpson attends the Ayn Rand Daycare Center, where she finds a caterpillar and faces off against her nemesis.

A playful dog exploring the newly created world comes upon the first man.

An unseen cook uses a series of unusual ingredients to prepare a bowl of guacamole.

A young man working in an office tries desperately to attract the attention of a girl in the building across the street.

The emotional distance between a long-married husband and wife has resulted in an unusual living arrangement.

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY - Fun Full UK Trailer!

Disney has released an awesomely fun new UK trailer for Pixar's Monsters University! The movie gives us the origin story of how Mike and Sulley from Monsters Inc. met in college and went from rivals to friends. The movie looks like it's going to be a great movie, and I can't wait to see it! I loved the first Monsters Inc. and this one looks like it's going to be even better.

Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn’t always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn’t stand each other. “Monsters University” unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends. Screaming with laughter and fun, “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”) and produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”).

Monsters University opens on June 21st, 2013! Enjoy the new trailer!

This is our first look at Eli Roth's upcoming cannibal film The Green Inferno featuring a young blood covered girl who is absolutely terrified!

The story follows an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the Peruvian jungle.

Roth co-wrote the script with Aftershock co-writer Guillermo Amoedo, and the movie stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Magda Apanowicz and actress/singer Sky Ferreria. The film is currently shooting in a remote native village located on the Amazon river in Peru.

STAR WARS Writer Lawrence Kasdan Will Start Fresh on Spin-Off Films

Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan is back to help build on the massive Star Wars universe that he helped create. In a recent interview with the LA Times he talked a little bit about the new Star Wars films that he's working on, and how he is looking to have a fresh start on the standalone films. He and Simon Kinberg will each write a spin-off movie for Lucasfilm and Disney, and the plan is to release them after J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII. Here's what he had to say,

I’m trying to start fresh. There are certain pleasures that we think the saga can bring to people that they’ve been missing, and we’re hoping to bring them that, and at the same time, have them feel that it’s all new.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Kasdan ends up creating, not only can we expect something fun and exciting, but he's a great screenwriter so the script is going to be good! He went on to talk about George Lucas and Abrams saying,

George sort of brought me into this part of it, and he’s stepping back from the company. He’s sort of given his blessing to everybody, and he’ll be there if you need him. I think everyone’s interested to see where this can go. It’s been some very different places over 30 years …. I think with J.J., we’ll get something entirely new.

He then goes on to talk about the previous Star Wars films that he made, and how they are different from the prequel movies made years later,

The ones I worked on were a long time ago, and they had a slightly different feeling than the ones that followed. The first three, 'Star Wars,' 'Empire’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ are all sort of more about people than the ones that followed. ‘Empire’ appeals to people, I think, because it’s the second act of a three-act play, and everything sort of goes to hell during the movie. And when you leave, everyone is in trouble, and that is the best part of the story to write. And people responded to it. Irvin Kershner was a completely different kind of director than George, so the movie’s much darker than the first ‘Star Wars.’ It’s more edgy.

And that's why it was the best one among most fans, but in his opinion the first Star Wars is the best movie because, "it changed movies forever." He does make a good point, but still, Empire was so amazing.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST News Roundup - VFX and Casting

Director Bryan Singer has been making the press rounds for Jack the Giant Slayer, but of course everyone wants to know what's going on with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Over the last couple days he's talked about bringing in a full CG character into the film and weather or not Storm or Nightcrawler will end up appearing in the movie.

When talking to MTV, Singer discussed the idea of bringing some of the CG work from Jack the Giant Slayer to X-Men: Days of Future Past--which doesn't really excitement me because the CG effects in Jack the Giant Slayer don't look very good.

A CG Nick Hoult or a CG Ewan McGregor, maybe 20 years from now might be perfect, but it’s a little tough on the eyes when it’s not real. I definitely want to use this technology again, and I might even be using some of it in a different way in X-Men. I don’t want to say how, yet, but I’m definitely using some of this technology on X-Men, which I never used in any of the other X-Men films.

Even though he doesn't say how he'll be using the technology, I think it's safe to assume that he will use it to bring the Sentinels to life. It will be interesting to see where else he ends up using the tech. As for the cast of the film Singer has done a great job rounding up a few familiar faces to reprise their roles. Magneto, Professor X, Wolverine, Iceman, Kitty Pride, and Rouge are going to be back, but when asked about Halle Berry as Storm, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler he didn't give a yes or no stance.

On Storm he said:

I can’t say [whether Storm will be in the film]. I don’t know yet. And it’s not necessarily a deal making aspect at all. I want to make sure it’ll make sense. But I love working with her.

On Nightcrawler he said:

I don't know. We'll see. You know ... we'll see. I don't want to ... sometimes you don't want to say 'yes' or 'no' to something that may not be a 'yes' or a 'no,' or anything. I haven't decided yet, a few things.

I honestly don't care if Storm comes back, but I'd love to see Nighcrawler! The movie is set to be released on July 18th, 2014. Simon Kinberg wrote the script, and it is based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne's comic book storyline, Days of Future Past, that ran in "Uncanny X-Men" #141 and 142 back in 1981. The story is set in an alternate future where surviving mutants have been thrown in concentration camps, Sentinels are patrolling America, and most of the X-Men have been hunted down and killed. The present day X-Men are forced to stop a key event from unfolding in order to keep that future from occurring.

So far the confirmed cast members for the film include Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, and Hugh Jackman.

Gale Anne Hurd Talks About Her GAIKING Movie

Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd is currently prepping up to bring us another badass project, a movie based on Toei Animation's Japanese giant robot anime Gaiking. Not only has Hurd worked on The Walking Dead series, but she's also brought us the Terminator, Aliens, and The Incredible Hulk films. The producer recently sat down with Collider and discussed the production time frame, how it stacks up to its rival projects (Robotech, Pacific Rim, Gigantor, and Voltron), visual effects, and more..

On the current status of the project:

We just closed the deal (with Toei and Al Nippon Entertainment) and we are out to writers as we speak.

On a production timeline:

Its early on, I’d hate to do that before the writers have an opportunity to look at the material and sit down with me. I don’t think we want it to look like something you’ve already seen on screen before. As you know, if you know Gaiking, it’s really the character driven part of it that’s so compelling to all of us. It’s more important to get the right writer and the right take than it is to do something in a particular timeframe.

On how it will stack up to its rival projects Pacific Rim, Robotech, Gigantor, and Voltron:

I’ve been first and second. I did Armageddon, there was also Deep Impact and we ended up being the most successful movie at the box office that year in the world even though we were second. I also did Dante’s Peak. There were three underwater films released when we made The Abyss. I think the most important thing is to make the best film you can.

On if special effects and R&D have begun:

Oh, absolutely. You don’t want people to look at something and think that was a fantastic special effect. Visual effects now you really feel as if you can reach out and touch, whether it’s a creature’s face or a machine.

On whether Toei and Al Nippon support what her production company Valhalla is doing with the project:

We’ve all agreed on which writers we’re going to go out to and I always like my partners to be happy but I think they will support the direction that we want to go.

I'm so excited about this project. We've got a long way to go, but I can't wait to see how it turns out! Make sure to head over to Collider to read the full interview where she also discusess The Walking Dead

MAN OF STEEL - Amazingly Detailed Statues

Check out these photos of some amazing Man of Steel character mini-statues giving us a very detailed look at Henry Cavill's Superman, Michael Shannon's General Zod, Antje Traue's Faora, and Russell Crowe's Jor-El. The statues were created from super hi-definition scans of the actual actors' faces, and they also give us our best look so far at some of the costumes in the film. The statues were designed with the costume designers that worked on the film. I also didn't expect to see Jor-El holding a gun. The four miniature statues will be available this spring, before the movie is released on June 14th, for $130 dollars a piece.

The movie also stars Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy, Harry Lennixas as General Swanwick and Aylet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van.

The story follows "a young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind."

Amanda Seyfried to Star in Seth MacFarlane's Western Comedy

Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables) is the latest actress to join Seth MacFarlane's upcoming new western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West. She's currently in negotiations to star alongside MacFarlane and Charlize Theron.

The comedy has been described as a Blazing Saddles-style comedy that will include contemporary humor, "with one undercurrent being just how dangerous and painful life really was in the late 1800s."

The story follows a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. When he meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman.

MacFarlane is a funny guy, I've enjoyed most of what he's created so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing what exactly he has planned for this western.

Jessica Alba Will Play a Hit and Run Astronaut in WEIGHTLESS

Looks like Jessica Alba will be playing an astronaut in a new thriller called Weightless. The story is set in the near-future and centers "on a female astronaut who causes a fatal motorcycle accident. She then flees the scene of the collision so as to not lose her spot on the space shuttle's next flight."

The movie is being directed by Milo Addica for Myriad Pictures, and it will be his first time directing a feature film. He's a screenwriter that's worked on films such as Monster's Ball, Birth, and The King.

Alba is currently reprising her roles in Sin City 2 and Machete Kills 2. Can you see Alba as an astronaut? I know she played one in Fantastic Four, but even for a comic book movie that was a hard one for me to believe.

William Shatner Says J.J. Abrams is "Being a Pig"

It doesn't look like William Shatner is a big fan of J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars: Episode VII. In a recent interview with Movie Fanatic, when asked about the director going from Star Trek to Star Wars he said,

He's being a pig. He's probably the most talented director of that ilk we have. But, he's gone too far this time.

I thought he might be joking or being sarcastic, but after watch thing the video interview of him below I'm not so sure. He also talks about taking Abrams out for Sushi, and why he's disappointed that Abrams hasn't cast him in anything. I don't know, maybe he is just being sarcastic, check out the video below and tell us what you think.

Will WRECK-IT RALPH 2 To Include Dirk the Daring?!

In a recent interview with IGN Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore talked a little bit about the sequel he wants to make for the CG animated film. We've previously heard that he would like to include Mario and Tron in the movie, but he revealed that he's also like to include Dirk the Daring from the classic game Dragon's Lair! Dirk is easily one of my favorite video game characters of all time, and it would be amazing if he was included in the sequel! Here's what Moore said in the interview,

There was definitely an old school one that I loved as a kid, and that was Dirk the Daring from Dragon's Lair. I loved that game. It was so different from other video games that had 2D animation in it. It was just very unique at that time, and it had things that I loved about both animation and video games within it. It really rekindled my love of 2D animation at just the right time, as a teenager. I really wanted that character in Wreck-It Ralph, but the legal red tape made it pretty impossible to get the rights to him. But it would be greatto try and get that character freed up for a sequel, should there be one.

The director then goes on to talk about what other game genres he'd like to explore, like mobile gaming.

Definitely, as I said, that kind of social gaming aspect would be a lot of fun, but I also love mobile gaming. I don't exactly know how we could work it in, you know, things like Angry Birds and the With Friends games -- only because I love playing them. It just seems like it would be great to work in a story about those types of games that are so prevalent and contemporary and part of today's culture. I would love to somehow work that into a sequel.

As of right now Moore is just waiting to get the official word from Disney so they can start working on the sequel. I'm sure it will happen, and when it does it sounds like there's a lot of cool new concepts and video game characters that will be included in the new adventure!

Elizabeth Olsen Briefly Talks About GODZILLA

A few days ago it was reported that Elizabeth Olsen was in talks to star in Gareth Edward's highly anticipated Godzilla reboot. The actress recently confirmed her involvement and briefly talked about the project saying,

It's definitely not lighthearted. It's kind of going back to its roots of the original Japanese film.

I was hoping that the film would go back to the roots and pay tribute to the original. The 1954 Godzilla movie was designed to serve as an allegory for nuclear weapons. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Johnson are also in talks to star in the film, which will revolve around a soldier and a giant monster fighting other giant monsters.

Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead, Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, The Green Mile) is currently working on the script, and it's set to hit theaters May 16th, 2014. To read more about Darabont's vision of the film, click here.

Many of us already knew that we would see a Batman: Arkham City follow-up, as it has been talked about in the past, and it was rumored that Rocksteady Games was working on it last year. I had no idea it would be released later this year though! The news was announced during Warner Bros. 2012 Q4 Earnings conference call. Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer John K. Martin revealed the news in the following statement,

We also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013.

We previously learned that the Arkham City sequel would be influenced by the 1950s Silver Age of DC comics, and that it would feature the moment when Joker and Batman first met, as well as the Justice League. Not many other details are known, but stay tuned and we'll get you more information on the game as it becomes available.

The new game may end up being called Batman: Arkham Universe.

Two new TV spots have been released for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The first one aired during the mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead, and it features more new footage of The Rock and Channing Tatum. WRECK-IT RALPH Deleted Scene - Extreme EZ Livin' 2

$

Wreck-It Ralph was such a great movie, and I'm excited to see what director Rich Moore is planning for the sequel. We've got a fun deleted scene for you depicting one of the story's dropped video game worlds, "Extreme EZ Livin' 2." The clip was never fully animated, so it's in the form of an animatic. Here's an explanation of the deleted scene from director,

Well, Extreme EZ Livin' was this idea that was floated out to Ralph by Bobby Dunderson, who was this kind of ne'er-do-well Hero's Duty character. He told Ralph about this other game that sounded like paradise. It was a place where there were no good guys, no bad guys, just guys -- and girls and sun and surf. It was kind of this Shangri-La where Ralph could forget his troubles. It was a game sort of like The Sims meets Grand Theft Auto, and it was a little amoral with no object to the game. It was just about collecting what we called "Like Its" from other characters in the game, depending on how well you were dressed or what kind of accouterments you were wearing. It was a place where Ralph could drown his sorrows in a hot tub with margaritas. Eventually, in the story, it was the place that Ralph was going to go once he disappointed Vanellope and himself. You know, it was another game world that came very late in the story that people were finding a lot to digest in a movie of about 90 minutes long. In fact, it was making our movie about two hours long, which is pretty long for an animated film. Unfortunately, even though we all loved the idea of this place and what seemed to be a paradise for Ralph as well as a real bottom for him, it was just too much to add in the film. Hopefully, we'll maybe get to revisit that idea, because I think it's one that's worth exploring. It just didn't make the cut for the first Wreck-It Ralph.

Now check out the scene! Do you think this would've made a good addition to the movie? Maybe there's a chance we will see it in the sequel.
