PORTAL - Companion Cube Dice

0
0

I don't know if you guys know this, but there are games that people play that don't require a controller AND these games are played on contraptions known as boards. It's really wild. It's like when people use to watch movies WITHOUT sound. Things have changed, man.

Well, if you do have people over for a nice game of drunk Monopoly, you should totally have dice that speaks to your interests. Like these dice that are inspired by Portal. You can roll these Companion Cubes and hope that they will make you lucky. You know, unlike the unlucky fate that befalls the Companion Cube in the actual game.

These little guys were made by Nique Geek over on Etsy if you want to grab them.

SPRING BREAKERS - 5 International Bikini Character Posters

0
0

Here's a set of five French character posters for director Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers, featuring James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, who all look ready to party it up at Spring Break. This looks like it's going to be a crazy movie, and I'm sure the teenage boys and dirty old men will be flocking to see it.

The film tells the story of "four sexy college girls as they plan to fund their spring break getaway by burglarizing a fast food shack. But that's only the beginning... At a motel room rager, fun reaches its legal limit and the girls are arrested and taken to jail. Hungover and clad only in bikinis, the girls appear before a judge but are bailed out unexpectedly by Alien (James Franco), an infamous local thug who takes them under his wing and leads them on the wildest Spring Break trip in history. Rough on the outside but with a soft spot inside, Alien wins over the hearts of the young Spring Breakers, and leads them on a Spring Break they never could have imagined."

The movie opens up in New York and Los Angeles on March 22nd before expanding on March 29th. You can watch two trailers for the film here, and a red-band trailer here.

First Look at a Bearded Nicolas Cage in JOE

Here's our first look at Nicolas Cage in David Gordon Green's (Pineapple Express, Your Highness) upcoming southern drama Joe, and Cage is sporting a very different bearded look. The photo also includes the film's co-star Tye Sheridan (Tree of Life, Mud). I honestly think this is a pretty badass look for Cage.

The movie is based on the Larry Brown novel of the same name, and the script was written by Gary Hawkins. Here's the synopsis,

In the dirty unruly world of small-town Texas, ex-convict Joe Ransom (Cage) has tried to put his dark past behind him and to live a simple life. He works for a lumber company by day, drinks by night. But when 15-year-old Gary (Sheridan) - a kid trying to support his family - comes to town, desperate for work, Joe has found a way to atone for his sins - to finally be someone’s hero. As Joe tries to protect Gary, the pair will take the twisting road to redemption in the hope for a better life in this tough, hard-hitting but incredibly moving story.

LAIKA Announces New Animated Feature - THE BOXTROLLS

0

LAIKA has announced that they will be partnering up with Focus Features again to bring us their third animated film adventure, called The Boxtrolls! This is the same stop-motion animation company that's brought us films such as ParaNorman and Coraline, which were both fantastic! The plan is to release The Boxtrolls on October 17th, 2014, and as you can see above, they've released a cool little piece of concept art.

The movie will be made using a hybrid of 3D stop-motion and CG animation. It's also based on Alan Snow’s bestselling fantasy adventure novel Here Be Monsters. The film is being directed by Anthony Stacchi (Open Season) and Graham Annable (story artist on Coraline and ParaNorman).

It also has an amazing voice cast that includes Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Game of Thrones), Jared Harris (Mad Men), Simon Pegg (Star Trek), Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), and Tracy Morgan (30 Rock).

The story is "a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (voiced by Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese."

Sounds like it will be yet another great movie from the animation studio! LAIKA President and CEO Travis Knight had this to say in a statement,

'The Boxtrolls' is a visually dazzling mash-up of gripping detective story, absurdist comedy, and steampunk adventure with a surprisingly wholesome heart. It’s Dickens by way of Monty Python. Tony and Graham have crafted a strange and beautiful world replete with fantastical creatures, good-for-nothing reprobates, madcap antics, and rip-roaring feats of derring-do. But at its core, like all LAIKA films, 'The Boxtrolls' is a moving and human story with timelessness and powerful emotional resonance. We’re thrilled to partner with Focus Features and Universal to bring this remarkable story to family audiences around the world.

You've got to watch this awesome trailer for a horror comedy called Big Ass Spider, about a a giant spider that escapes from a military facility and attacks Los Angeles. It's up to an exterminator and his security guard sidekick to kill the creature before it destroys the city. It's looks as entertaining as it sounds.

The movie stars Greg Grunberg, Lombardo Boyar, Clare Kramer, Ray Wise, Lin Shaye, and Patrick Bauchau. It's set to premiere at SXSW, and is currently looking for a buyer at the European Film Market. It looks like a ton of fun, and I hope it gets picked up so we can see it! Check out the trailer!

The Rocketeer - 'Best of' Cosplay Collection

Little did I know in '91 that The Rocketeer would be the last drive-in movie I ever saw. I was 9 years old and the perfect age to have the iconic costume burned into my memory. It forever gave me the desire to own a jet pack. In 2011 The Rocketeer had a special theatrical screening that reignited all those nostalgic feelings I had. It was not only still good, but better than I remembered. I now own a copy of it on bluray and can't wait to introduce it to my kid. Lets hope the rumored sequel is as good as the first.

Make sure you check out the other 'Best of' Cosplay Collections.

Early Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi Comedy Short - BLIND WAITER

0
0

Here's a great comedy short film starring Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell made way back in the day, called Blind Waiter, directed by Josh Becker. I thought it was great! It's got a lot of charm and humor. Campbell is in the title role, Scott Spiegel plays the cook, and Sam Raimi is the busboy. This short was shot shortly after the original Evil Dead in only one weekend and a couple of nights.

It's awesome to see how far these guys have come. If you didn't already know, Raimi and Campbell have been lifelong friends, and they've been making movies together since the early 70s. I love watching early films of some of my favorite filmmakers. Hope you like this one!

Did EW Just Reveal That Benedict Cumberbatch Is Actually Khan?!

0
0

Ok, so Entertainment Weekly just made a big mistake. It was recently pointed out to us (via: CBM) that the magazine outlet put a headline on their website clearly stating that Khan is really going to be the villain in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness. We've been told time and time again that it's not Khan, that the villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing is named John Harrison, but many have speculated that that's all been a cover up.

So either EW knew about Abrams' secret plan and they accidently revealed this bit of information, OR the person that wrote it had a major brain fart and for some reason put Khan's name in the headline, even though the villain isn't really Khan. But they're the ones that got the inside look, so it's safe to assume they know something we don't. Take a look at the screenshot below, and let us know what you make of it.

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Will Beall's JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Script Scrapped?

0
0

We've all been wondering if Warner Bros. would actually be able to pull off a Justice League movie, and it looks like they are going to once gain be starting from scratch. According to a report made by Badass Digest multiple sources have confirmed that Warner Bros. has scrapped the script for the film written by Will Beall because it was "terrible." Some of the sources say that the movie will most likely fall apart and never happen, others think they will keep moving forward.

This is seriously ridiculous. There's a really awesome movie here with amazing characters, and it's sure to make the studio a ton of money. But, for some reason they can't figure out how to do it, or hire the right people to develop it. It is possible! This movie can be done, and it can be done right, they just need to find the right people to develop it. Apparently the reason they haven't been able to land a director is because of the script.

I guess that means everything we've heard about the film up to this point regarding the story and characters has also been scrapped. If the movie does get made though it will at least still include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Green Lantern.

The last we heard, the studio wanted to wait and see how Man of Steel performed before they moved forward with Justice League. Looks like that 2015 release date is going to be harder to hit at this point, if the movie even happens. I really want to see it, so I hope they can pull it together!

Come on Warner Bros.! You're a solid studio, I know you can do this.

HOUSE OF CARDS Already Has A Rap Tribute

Though it's the first I've heard of him, Adam Warrock has apparently been creating rap songs for TV shows for awhile. He's highlighted Game of Thrones, Regular Show, Futurama, and several other geek things like X-Men. You can check out his Youtube page here, and listen to the political trunk rattler "I Can't Stop Watching House Of Cards" below. If you haven't caught up yet, no need to worry, this thing is spoiler free for the most part (tiny line at the end that alludes to something but not relevant to the big picture.) So enjoy! Shout out to NYT blogs for spotting this one! PEACE!

Want to See What the First Moon Base Could Look Like?

0
0

I'm in full support of putting a base on the moon. I'm actually a little shocked that it hasn't been done yet. One day it will happen, and when it does, this is what it could end up looking like. These are some CG renderings designed and created by the European Space Agency and architectural firm Foster + Partners, who are developing the technology to make this happen. How cool is that?! On top of that the space station design is pretty freakin' rad.

The logic is that if 90% of the stuff we need to build the base is already on the Moon, we only have to ferry the 3D printing robots (you can look at one below) and the lightweight parts, like the inflatables and the solid connector and entry segments. This will make this idea a lot cheaper than the alternatives.

Xavier De Kestelier of Foster + Partners Specialist Modelling Group says that their construction 3D printing technology has already produced entire structures under extreme conditions on Earth, so it's perfectly reasonable to do the same up there:

"As a practice, we are used to designing for extreme climates on Earth and exploiting the environmental benefits of using local, sustainable materials. Our lunar habitation follows a similar logic."

I can't wait for the moon base to become a reality! After it happens the next step would be to build a vacation resort for the hardcore sci-fi fans!

Jesse Eisenberg and Emile Hirsch to Star in 1940s Atomic Bomb Drama

0

Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Kruger, and Emile Hirsch have joined a really interesting 1940s drama, called Midnight Sun, that revolves around the atomic nomb.

The story is set in 1943, and it "follows two young post graduates recruited by the US Government to work on a top-secret project in New Mexico. Along with one of the students’ new wife, they drop their jazz-filled lives in New York and move to a secret community of scientists in the desert."

I'm really curious to see how this movie turns out. I've always been fascinated with the the development of the atomic bomb, so this sounds like a great project to me. The movie was written by actor-director Chris Eigeman, who will also direct the film. They've also brought in Richard Rhodes, winner of the Pulitzer prize for the book The Making of the Atomic Bomb, to be an advisor on the project.

The film is scheduled to start shooting in summer 2013.

Legendary Pictures to Develop THE ESPERANZA FIRE

0
0

Legendary Pictures has picked up the rights to a nonfiction book called The Esperanza Fire written by John Maclean. It sounds like it will be a pretty intense film.

The story tells the real-life account of "a tightly-knit forest service engine crew which perished battling the perfect storm of wildland fires in 2006 near Cabazon, Calif. The blaze and resulting deaths resulted in the first-ever conviction of a wildland arsonist for first degree murder. Arsonist Raymond Lee Oyler was given the death penalty."

Maclean was an investigative journalist with the Chicago Tribune for many years, and his other books include Fire and Ashes and The Thirtymile Fire.

Legendary Pictures has a great year of films ahead of them; they've got Jack the Giant Slayer, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, and The Hangover Part III all set to be released later this year.

THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE - TV Spot and Posters

0
0

New Line Cinema has released the first TV spot and a couple of character posters for the great looking magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. The movie stars Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey, and I think it looks like it going to be a solid comedy to brings on the laughs.

Superstar magicians Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) and Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) have ruled the Las Vegas strip for years, raking in millions with illusions as big as Burt’s growing ego. But lately the duo’s greatest deception is their public friendship, while secretly they’ve grown to loathe each other.

Facing cutthroat competition from guerilla street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey), whose cult following surges with each outrageous stunt, even their show looks stale. But there’s still a chance Burt and Anton can save the act—both onstage and off—if Burt can get back in touch with what made him love magic in the first place.

The movie is set to be released on March 15th, 2013, and it also stars Olivia Wilde, Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini, Jay Mohr, and Michael Bully Herbig.

STAR WARS Death Star Timeline: From Formation to Fully Operational

0

Art by: Stephen Chang

From an empty warehouse in California to the far side of the galaxy, the Death Star's path to being fully operational is mapped out in this timeline for Industrial Light & Magic from StarWars.com. Whenever I read about the hard work and dedication the ILM team put into the tuly groundbreaking and game-changing effects, it really makes me wish I could see Star Wars in its original form. With George Lucas no longer in control and a new trilogy on the way, maybe we can get a special "non-molested" edition of the original trilogy... now THAT would be a new hope.
