When Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora, Evanora and Glinda, who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. I love what Shane Black is bring to this movie, and there's a really good chance that it could be the best Iron man movie so far.

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. Marvel Developing Live-Action PLANET HULK Film?!

It should come as no surprise that Marvel is already developing phase three of their cinematic universe, they've been working on it for some time, and they're most likely already developing phase four. It's been announced that Phase three will include Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, but it looks like the Hulk is actually going to get another stand alone film! Our friends at Latino-Review are reporting that Marvel is actually developing a live-action Plant Hulk film! How freakin' awesome is that?!

Just so you know, Latino-Review is known for breaking lots of great Marvel news, and their batting average is pretty damn good, so they're intel can be trusted. I loved the animated film that Marvel made for Planet Hulk, and I imagine it's going to be incredibly epic as a live-action film! I've been hoping that this would happen somewhere down the line, and it's so cool that it looks like it's actually going to happen!

Here's a video that El Mayimbe put together that gives us all the details on the film, and how the movie will be set up in the cinematic universe! There's some pretty awesome info included here! Check it out, and let us know if the prospect of a Planet Hulk film gets you excited! Just a warning... this does contain spoilers, but it's so worth it!

New TERMINATOR 2 VFX Tests Show Cutting Edge Tech for the Time

0
0

Stan Winston School has released some awesome visual effects test sequences from James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Included is Sarah Connor's Fiery Doom and the Liquid Metal Hand Kill sequence.

Who could forget Sarah Connor's dream sequence where she envisioned what the nuclear explosion in LA would have looked like?  Here is a description of that sequence from Stan Winston School:

"The third and final puppet — an ashen form that blows away in the wind, exposing the charred skeleton beneath — was the most difficult, requiring much research and development. To create the effect, Shannon Shea reinforced a medical demonstration skeleton with a steel armature, and then positioned it to match the ending pose of the stage two puppet. To create the ashen material, Shea laid tissue paper and tempera paint into the mold of the initial screaming Sarah form. When it dried, he pulled that ‘skin’ out of the mold and carefully laid it on the skeleton like papier-mâché. Additional floating ash was simulated with gray and black paper napkins, shredded in a kitchen blender and stuffed into the form. Just prior to cameras rolling, Winston’s crew scored the form with an X-acto knife. When the special effects crew blasted it with air mortars, all the delicate skin and shredded napkin material blew off the skeleton like ash."

Another equally memorable sequence was when the T-1000 had taken over the body of John Connor's foster mother and shoved her hand-turned-knife through the mouth of her unlucky husband. Here is the description:

"In another scene, the T-1000 kills John Conner’s foster mother Janelle (Jenette Goldstein) and takes her form. Stan Winston Studio sculpted and produced a tapered blade arm, attached by strap to Goldstein, for a shot of the woman driving the blade through the head of her husband, Todd (Xander Berkeley). As the T-1000’s weapon of choice, blades built for the show would number in the hundreds. Although seemingly simple, the blades posed continual challenges to Stan Winston Studio artists and technicians, since the vacumetalizing process revealed even the most minute flaws in their form. The Janelle blade arm, for example, which was made of fiberglass and ABS plastic, had to be made and remade multiple times before the crew produced a perfect specimen."

PACIFIC RIM Screening Reactions!

0
0

There was an early screening of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim this weekend in Burbank CA. I would have loved to be there, but it just wasn't meant to be--My question is, WHY?!

This is one of my most anticipated movies of 2013, and judging by the reactions from the people that were lucky enough to see it, it looks like the film is going to deliver everything that we hope and more. So here's what they're saying on Twitter...

Rian Johnson @rianjohnson
Go into Pacific Rim prepared to be transmogrified into a 12 year old. And then to pee your pants with joy. I love it so much.

Bryan Chojnowski @BryanInSpace
Just saw an early cut of Pacific Rim and it is pretttttty cool.

Eric Church @HoursOfWealth
Saw a pre-screening of Pacific Rim… it is amazing.

Alex Irvine @alexirvine
So, yeah. You’re going to want to see Pacific Rim.

Here's a review from IMDB user OriginsOfRuin:

I just got back from the screening (though I’m not this guy’s friend, haha), and I freaking loved it. That’s all I can really say, but the FX are flat out incredible (the ones that were done) and the story is solid. I didn’t know Charlie Day was in it, and being a big fan of It’s Always Sunny, that was a pleasant surprise (he fits his role perfectly).

Overall, it’s probably the best summer monster movie I’ve seen, and out of summer movies in general, falls behind the new Batman series, but that’s about it. I wrote on their response form that they should be proud of the movie and that I’m glad it’s not another Transformers clone (re: Battleship). They killed it!

Let’s be honest, it’s not meant to be a complex, character-driven movie like the Batman franchise. There are huge monsters, humans fight them with big machines, and that’s your basic story. Beyond that, it’s easy to root for the characters and the action set pieces and monsters are incredible and awesome. It’s the summer action movie Transformers should’ve been, but failed epically at.

I don’t think you can expect that out of him because Avatar took place on another planet. Del Toro can only world build in the sense of envisioning a future on planet earth with crazy, big ass robots defending cities around the globe from giant, alien monsters. He can’t deviate too much from how we know and understand the world already.

1. The movie in its current form was around 2:00-2:15-ish. We weren’t allowed to have phones, so I’m not sure of the exact time..

2. I thought the performances were very good, considering the subject matter and the script. Idris Elba was great as the older commanding officer, and Charlie and Rinko both did well in their roles. Charlie Day and Ron Perlman were both awesome. It’s not going to win any SAG awards by any means, but the acting and direction were solid, and above average for a big monster movie.

3. It was hard to tell at points, to be honest. There was a good mixture between the two and they blended it really well. The set pieces with the jaegers were amazing and absolutely monstrous. It felt like a good combination between visual FX, models, and practical effects.

There were a good amount of kaijus (monsters), but they vary in size. Can’t really give the details on them.

If IMDb were to allow me to rated the movie, I’d give it a 10/10. I generally rate movies pretty highly, but that goes with understanding the identity of the movie for me. This particular film wasn’t meant to be anything more than giant robots fighting giant monsters. In that sense, it succeeded big time, and it had a lotta heart to go with it. I was thoroughly impressed and smiling throughout the film.

1. I think getting a maquette of anything from this movie would be pretty sweet. The designs of the jaegers and kaijus were very cool.

2. Yes, more than likely. I’d love to see it myself.

3. Umm… I honestly don’t remember the color that well. Black/gray/purple sounds about right. Somewhere in there, but mostly gray.

The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke. It hits theaters on July 12th, 2013!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in New Photos from ALL YOU NEED IS KILL Set

Here are some new photos from the set of Warner Bros' sci-fi film All You Need Is Kill featuring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The Doug Liman-directed film also stars Bill Paxton, Jonas Armstrong, Tony Way, Kick Gurry, Franz Drameh, and Charlotte Riley

Here is a description of the movie:

The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski, who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.

The movie arrives in theaters on March 7th, 2014.

HOUSE OF CARDS Breaks The Rules Of TV... And It's Awesome.

0
0

This weekend I had a lot of errands to run, plans with friends, and tasks to complete. That all went out the window Friday night after watching the first episode of House Of Cards. I sat there jaw agape as the credits rolled, I was beyond impressed. So impressed that I jumped to see if I could find a trailer for the next episode to give me a glimpse of what House Minority Whip Francis Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey) would be up to next. My jaw dropped further.

High profile lead actors, award winning directors, and an entire season put up all at once? What kind of brave new world is this?! To sum up my basic thoughts, this show would've soared on a premium channel like HBO or Showtime, and five episodes in I dare say it surpasses most of their current offerings.

Spacey aside, each character is as intriguing and enticing as the next, whether it's the drug using, trouble making congressman John Russo (Corey Stoll); or Claire (Robin Wright), the enigmatic wife of Underwood, the characters all seem well developed and able to carry a separate story line all on their own.

If there was one complaint I could make about this show, it's the all too often, cliche representation of print journalism. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) plays the struggling young female journalist in a dying industry who gets her big break and flies through the ranks to stardom. To be honest, her character is not a far cry from the one played by Alison Pill on The Newsroom, and the constant remarks about print journalism dying get a bit droll (especially considering the size of this "small" paper's staff  and the fact they are flying a journalist to transfer to a Midwest bureau...). That being said it's a small nit picky thing I say because I honestly don't have any other gripes I can bring against this show.

Final verdict? House of Cards sets the bar and offers a very attractive alternative for the future television viewing audience. A bar I hope many shows will follow suit with soon. A must see.

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US Inspires This Cool Harley Quinn Cosplay

Injustice: Gods Among Us isn't even out until April, but that hasn't stopped the upcoming brawler from getting its own cosplay. The sweet rendition of Harley Quinn featured above was created by (and modeled by) Destiny Nickelsen.

Whether you love the redesign or not (and I know a ton who don't), Destiny did a wonderful job recreating it. If you head over to her facebook page you can see a great deal of the behind the scenes process, which I recommend for those who don't quite know how much work goes into these projects. You can also see some other photos there as well, and nice photography by Grant Brummett on the one below.

If you're a fan, make sure to head to her store to grab some prints of her various cosplays. Hopefully there is more to come!

According to reactions from an early screening of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, this movie is going to blow fans away! I freakin' loved what I've seen in the trailers, and I can't wait to see more blazing glory robot and monster greatness! Legendary Pictures has released a few new photos from the film, teasing a little bit more awesomeness from the epic looking film.

Tina Fey Teams with PITCH PERFECT Director for Comedy THE NEST

0
0

Tina Fey spent seven years as the creator, star, writer, and producer of 30 Rock, and since that show just came to an end, many are speculating that we'll start to see her pop up on the film side now that she has a lot more time on her hands. Deadline has a report that seems to support that theory, pegging Fey to star in a new comedy for Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore.

Moore made quite a first impression with his acapella musical comedy, and now he's setting his sights on a collaboration with Fey for a film called The Nest, which is described as being about two sisters who "come home to find their parents’ house has been put up for sale. They spend a last wild weekend together, bonding and feuding and finally growing up." With a synopsis like that, this movie obviously isn't looking to reinvent the wheel, so let's hope that Moore can prove himself more than a one hit wonder and see if Fey can live up to the pressure of transitioning to the big screen.

We should also note that the original story for The Nest comes from writer Paula Pell, who has worked with Fey before since Pell has been a writer on Saturday Night Live for the past 17 years. This is her first feature script, but we're optimistic that Fey's charisma, Moore's direction, and a hopefully-funny script will mix together well and bring us something memorable.

KINGDOM HEARTS COSPLAY - FINAL FANTASY VII's Cloud Strife

Cloud Strife has always been a fixation in the cosplay community, and that mostly stems from the history of Final Fantasy VII. There is a lot of love for that game, and those characters are still cherished by players today. Cloud has appeared elsewhere, too, and one of those sightings is in Kingdom Hearts. Sporting a new appearance, he swooped in to make all the nerds happy.

This gorgeous cosplay was done by Deviant Art user, Attyca, and the photographs were taken by Jack Liu. I do enjoy the effects that were added to the photos. It adds clarity to the colors, and I love it when those colors pop at my eyeballs.

FAST AND FURIOUS 6 - Badass Extended 3-Minute Trailer

During the Super Bowl we got our first taste of Fast and Furious 6, and I thought it tasted pretty good! Now we've got a really cool three minute extended trailer for the film for you to watch that's got a ton of great new footage including Gina Carano kicking Michelle Rodriguez's ass! If you liked the first trailer you're going to love this one! This movie looks amazingly entertaining, and I can't wait to see it! This looks like it could be the best movie in the franchise to date.

The Justin Lin-directed film also stars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Elsa Pataky, and Luke Evans. Here's the recently released synopsis...

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian's (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin's empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

The movie comes out May 24th! Enjoy the new trailer!

New LAST EXORCISM II Poster and TV Spot Fail to Scare

0
0

I went to see Warm Bodies this weekend and saw the trailer for The Last Exorcism II for the first time. The word that comes to mind when describing my feelings is underwhelmed. I mildly enjoyed the first film, but this sequel looks as though it should've been a VOD and straight-to-DVD release.

Synopsis:

Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can't remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.

I hate to judge a movie by its trailer or TV spot, but this just looks bad. Watch the TV Spot below to get a taste of how underwhelming the movie looks.

First Look at Some KICK-ASS 2 Character Posters

0
0

Here's our first look at some cool looking character posters that will be released for Jeff Wadlow's Kick-Ass 2. I'm sure you all remember all of the character posters that were made for the first Kick-Ass movie, I imagine the sequel will get just as many... probably even more. After all, there's a lot more superhero characters in this film that are going to need their own posters! I'm so excited for this movie!

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010's irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass' (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world's first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Kick-Ass 2 hits theaters on June 28th, 2013. The movie also stars Jim Carrey, Morris Chestnut, John Leguizamo, and Donald Faison.
