New Photos from THE WORLD'S END with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost

I love the films that Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost have made together, and I'm really excited about their latest film project, The World's End. The movie also stars Martin FreemanPaddy Considine, and Eddie Marsan. Thanks to Empire, we've got a couple of new photos to share with you. The photo above features a group of friends raising a pint before the shit hits the fan. The second image features Pegg standing alone in the face danger. Pegg says that this film is "a much bigger proposition than the other two films." The other two films he's referring to are Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King (Pegg), a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Pegg goes on to explain, "When you've seen the film, you'll be able to relate each pub name to what happens inside." Sounds like fun! I have no doubt this is going to be a great entertaining movie, and it's set to be released on October 25th, 2013!

Johnny Depp Wanted for WORLD OF WARCRAFT Movie?

Yesterday the amazingly awesome news broke that Moon director Duncan Jones would be directing the World of Warcraft movie! He's a very talented director, and I believe he will give us the best video game film adaptation to date. Duncan is a big gamer and a great filmmaker. Following yesterday's news he tweeted the following statement:

I know he'll be able to pull it off, and I'm incredibly excited to see what he is planning for it! Bring it on Jones! On top of that, industry Tracking Boards are saying that the studio wants Johnny Depp to star in the movie. But then what studio doesn't want Depp to star in their movies? Take that news with a grain of salt for now, but for conversation sake, would you like to see Depp star in the World of Warcraft movie?

Daniel Craig May Not Come Back for DRAGON TATTOO Sequel

I loved David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and I'm excited for the sequel, The Girl Who Played With With Fire. It's going to happen! Fincher wants to do it, and the studio wants to as well. So what's been the hold up? Well apparently, even though Daniel Craig wants to reprise his role in the film, he also wants more money, and the studio might not want to do that. If they don't end up making a deal, and he ends up not coming back, sources close to the action say the studio could write the character out of the sequel. They say it shouldn't be hard to do because the sequel focuses more on the Lisbeth Salander character that Rooney Mara will be back to play.

The don't want to do that if they can help it though. THR says "Sony would prefer not to be forced to commission a rewrite of Steven Zaillian's script, which is considered production-ready and cost the studio mid-seven figures, one of the most expensive adaptations to date."

I hope they are able to come to an agreement during the negotiation process, which has yet to happen. I'd like to see Craig back in the role. He was awesome in the first film. The sequel wouldn't be the same without him or the character.

BLOOD-O-WEEN - Hilarious Short That Will Make Your Ears Bleed Guts

Here's a great short film called Blood-O-Ween that we got a chance to see up in Park City at the Slamdance Film Festival recently. This is a great mockumentary directed by Nathan Fackrell that follows a couple of friends, Chaz and Reginald, who set out on a journey to make their own scary Halloween sound effects tape so they can distribute it. "Through the process the duo are faced with a variety of hilarious scenarios, hoping to come away with a product that will truly make your ears bleed guts!!!"

This was a very entertaining short that had me and the rest of the audience laughing. It's got a fun story and a great cast of characters. I can easily see this getting the feature film treatment. There's also some great quotable one-liners. Check out the short below and let us know what you think of it!

In this episode we touch on our topic from last week with a new article in reply to Gabrielle Toledano's original, and a spotlight on a great blog that captures a lot of this behavior on tape (so to speak). In addition we go over RE: Revelations, Zelda Wind Waker HD Remake, The Cave, as well as some demos and the recent Mass Effect 3 DLC. Of course the colartibles make a return with some great Zelda inspired jewlery and to close things out we end with a plea to Bryan Singer. So with that, enjoy the show!

Kenneth Branagh to Direct Disney's Live-Action CINDERELLA

Earlier this month director Mark Romanek dropped out of the live-action Cinderella film that he was developing for Disney. His vision of the story was just too dark for the studio. But it looks like they've found someone else to take over... Thor director Kenneth Branagh. I've got to say that this is a great choice! According to Vulture he's currently in negotiations with Disney. They are still looking to keep the film production on schedule, and hope to close the deal soon so that they can get the production ready for a fall shoot in London.

The report goes on to confirm that Cate Blanchett is still set to play the wicked stepmother. And the search for Cinderella continues. If everything stays on track, the studio is hoping to release the movie in 2014. What do you think of Branagh possibly directing this movie? He's currently finishishing up Jack Ryan for Paramount Pictures.

New Photos from JACK RYAN with Chris Pine and Kevin Costner

As a fan of the book and movie series revolving around Jack Ryan, I'm looking forward to the new film being directed by Kenneth Branagh. A couple of new photos have been released thanks to USA Today featuring Chris Pine and Kevin Costner in the lead roles. I think they're both going to be great in the movie, and I'm looking forward to seeing what they bring to these characters. Pine talked about playing this character in a recent interview saying,

It's always a bit overwhelming. What I do know is my job is to do my best to bring whatever new colors I have to these franchises. We take the fundamentals of the myth of Jack Ryan and do an original film that was never a book. We're making our own story in a modern-day 2013. He doesn't drive great cars, he doesn't know five different martial arts. He works in the CIA, but he's a normal guy with a normal wife (fiancée, actually) thrown into these extraordinary circumstances.

Branagh adds,

We cheated a little. Mr. Clancy is very aware of and very behind the concept, but we put Jack Ryan in the here and now. We're probably not going to be James Bond or Jason Bourne or Ethan Hunt. The audience feels they could just be Jack Ryan and they like him for that. If you ever wanted to be involved in global conspiracies and espionage, then Jack Ryan is the way in. And it puts us in the center of the story.

The story centers on ex-Marine and Moscow-based financial analyst Jack Ryan (Chris Pine), who finds out his boss is financing a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Ryan must race against time to save America and his wife (Keira Knightley), who at some point gets pulled into the madness. Kevin Costner is playing a mentor to Ryan who is going to convince him to join the CIA.

The movie will be released on December 25th, 2013. Are you looking forward to it?

Official Synopsis for FAST AND FURIOUS 6

Universal Pictures has released the first official synopsis for the Justin Lin-directed film Fast and Furious 6! I'm looking forward to the movie, but I'm actually surprised by how many other people are excited for it as well. I guess Fast Five really did the trick in breathing new life into the dying franchise. Well, here's the official synopsis for the highly anticipated film!

Since Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian’s (Paul Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Dwyane Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Luke Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez).

The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

I absolutely love that Dom and Hobbs will be teaming up in this movie! I had no idea that would be the case, so that was a nice surprise. The movie also stars Gina Carano, Joe Taslim, Gal Gadot, Tyrese, Jordana Brewster, and Ludacris. It's set to hit theaters on May 24th, 2013. Stay tuned because the first trailer for the film will air during the Super Bowl on Sunday!

Where Are All The New American Action Heroes?

$

Christian Bale, Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Chris Hemsworth...all heroes...none American.

Sylvestor Stallone, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Jeremy Renner, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson...all American heroes...all over 40. Are there any Americans in Hollywood that are under 40 to be our new action stars?!

Well, yeah, obviously...(Age: 34)

Fair enough... (Age: 31)

Meh...okay. (Age:30)

YOU'RE JOKING...(Age: 20)

As a male in my early 20s, I think I know where the American action heroes are going: into extinction. Taylor Lautner isn't the only young guy these days rocking the tight suit look and choosing poetry over Point Break, lattes over leg presses, and writing blogs over... wait.

The other young male archetypes? The ones who are in shape are busy training for their MMA debut or fights in their local bar parking lot, and the gamers, well...

What do you want from us, America? We were raised thinking we were the creme de la creme of the mating pool. Life got easier and we got soft, so we stuck to using phrases like 'creme de la creme' and started groups like Bronies to find outlets for our odd repressed male thoughts. I'm not proud of it, just telling it like it is! I'd like to say that this might shame some of us into changing for the better to usher in an ultra badass new generation of action film stars, but I'm not even convincing myself right now!

The truth is, our generation isn't built for such wear and tear...and we're cool with that. How? you ask. How do we survive in this brave new world where women have to deal with a less than Adonis kind of man? We changed the game. Don't believe us? Three words.

Quirky.

Intellectual.

Geeky.

GAME OF THRONES Video Blog #3 - Intensity of Iceland

HBO has released a third behind the scenes video blog for the upcoming third season of Game of Thrones. It focuses on the crazy intense nature of shooting the show on location in Iceland. I don't know how else to explain it other than it looks like miserable fun.

The third season is said to include events from George R.R. Martin's book A Storm of Swords, and it will include several new and returning characters. The video features interviews with Producer/Writer/Director D.B. Weiss, and several other members from the cast and crew discussing the joys of shooting in Iceland. It also features some footage.

The series looks great, and it amazes me that a TV series like this can look so good on such a limited budget, yet a $200 million dollar movie can look like crap.

James Horner to Score ENDER'S GAME Movie!

Movie composer James Horner will be scoring the upcoming Gavin Hood-directed adaptation of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Horner has created scores for films such as Braveheart, Titanic, Avatar, Troy, and several other films. The guy is great at what he does, and I love listening to the movie musical scores he creates. I'm sure he'll come up with some great music for Ender's Game.

In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

I can't wait to see this movie, I hope it ends up being just as awesome as the book was. It's set to be released on November 1st, 2013, and here's a detailed break down of the characters in the story.

Asa Butterfield, the star of director Martin Scorsese's widely praised 3D film Hugo will be playing the lead role of Ender Wiggin. Harrison Ford (Cowboys & Aliens) will be Colonel Hyrum Graff, the adult lead in the film and commander of training for the International Fleet military academy in located in space. Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) will play Petra Arkanian, one of Ender's Battle School trainers and eventual confidant. Sir Ben Kingsley, who recently starred with Butterfield in Hugo will play a character who is crucial to Ender's battle training, former Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham. Canadian actor Brendan Meyer will play one of Ender's early antagonists Stilson who he encounters before being shipped off to Battle School. Academy Award nominee Abigail Breslin will play Valentine Wiggin, sister to Butterfield's Ender. Aramis Knight (Rendition) will play Ender's youngest recruit Bean, Moises Arias will play Salamander Army Commander Bonzo Madrid, Jimmy "Jax" Pinchak (Let Me In) will be Peter Wiggin, Suraj Parthasarathy will be Alai, Conor Carroll will be Ender's first Battle School nemesis Bernard, Khylin Rhambo will play Dink Meeker. Viola Davis (the Help) will play a yet to be named military psychologist who oversees the emotional welfare of young trainees. Nonso Anozie (The Grey) will play Sergeant Dap, Stevie Ray Dallimore (Joyful Noise) has been cast as Ender’s father John and Andrea Powell (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2) will play Ender’s mother Theresa.

Looks like Paramount Pictures didn't want to wait until the Super Bowl to show off their new TV spot for Brad Pitt's World War Z. The trailer has got some cool new footage. The movie may not follow the book at all, but it still looks like it will be a fun zombie movie.

Here's an action-packed trailer for a badass looking CG animated film called Space Pirate Captain Harlock. This is a feature film adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series. The manga was created by Leiji Matsumoto in 1978, and spawned a TV anime series, a few features, and the sequel called Arcadia of My Youth: Endless Orbit SSX.

The story follow Captain Harlock as he fights for humanity with his 40 crew members aboard the invincible space battleship Arcadia.

The script was written by Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC novels, live-action Bōkoku no Aegis)  and was developed to reflect the themes of modern society. It was directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) with a budget of $30 million. The movie should be released in Japan sometime this fall. I'm excited to eventually get to see it when it comes to the states.

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION Director to Develop MATCHED for Disney

G.I. Joe: Retalition director Jon M. Chu is in negotiations to direct a film for Disney called Matched. David Slade (30 Days of Night) was previously attached to direct the project but he ended up dropping out of it. The movie is based on a young adult sci-fi romance book series by Ally Condie. The story is set in "a future society where people are told what to read, what to watch, what to believe and who to love, the story centers on a young woman who rejects an arranged romance and chooses her own path."

The project was set up by producers Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot. Both of whom worked with Chu on the films, Step Up 2: The Streets and Step Up 3D. The script for the film was written by Michelle and Kieran Mulroney who also wrote the script for the wonderful film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which I liked more that the first movie.

Here's a description of the story from the book...

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die. Cassia has always trusted their choices, but she begins to question just how perfect her world really is when she notices things are not what they seem. As Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility, she is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Just for the hell of it, here's a trailer for the Matched book:

J.J. Abrams Explains How STAR WARS is All About the Mystery Box

Here's a great TED talk from 2007 in which director J.J. Abrams talks about storytelling and the power of The Mystery Box. In it he explains how Star Wars is all about The Mystery Box. So what is this Mystery Box that he speaks of? It's key information that’s withheld in a story that helps make the story intriguing and compelling. He says, “The intentional withholding of information is much more engaging.” Not sure if you need anymore proof that Abrams is the right man for the job for Star Wars: Episode VII. But in case you do, watch this...

Here's the full presentation, which is a great watch, and I recommend checking it out:
