First Look at CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2

$

Sony Pictures has released our first look at the Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs sequel, Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers. I loved the first film, it was surprisingly funny and extremely entertaining. These first images give us a look at the crazy food world that we'll see in the sequel. It includes Bananostrich, Cantalope, Cucumbirds, Flamangos, Fruit Cocktail, Hippotatomus, Sasquash, Watermelophant, Wild Scallions, Wildebeets, Barry, and Tomato. You'll find close up images of these below.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are only producing this time around, but the film is being directed by Cody Cameron (story artist on the first movie) and Kris Pearn (head of story on the first one). The script was written by John Francis Daley, Jonathan Goldstein, and Erica Rivinoja.

The lead voice cast from the first film returns, including Bill Hader as inventor Flint Lockwood; Anna Faris as brainy weather girl Sam Sparks; James Caan as Flint’s technophobic dad, Tim Lockwood; Andy Samberg as Swallow Falls’ local celebrity “Baby” Brent; Neil Patrick Harris as Steve the gummy bear-loving monkey; and Benjamin Bratt as Sam’s mild mannered cameraman Manny. Then there's Terry Crews who has replaced Mr. T in the role of Earl, the town cop. Here's the synopsis...

Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers picks up where Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood’s genius is finally being recognized as he’s invited by his idol Chester V (Will Forte) to join The Live Corp Company, where the best and brightest inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind. Chester’s right-hand-gal – and one of his greatest inventions – is Barb (Kristen Schaal), a highly evolved orangutan with a human brain, who is also devious, manipulative and likes to wear lipstick.

It’s always been Flint’s dream to be recognized as a great inventor, but everything changes when he discovers that his most infamous machine – which turns water into food – is still operating and is now creating mutant food beasts. With the fate of humanity in his hands, Flint and his friends must embark on a dangerously delicious mission, battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world… again!

The sequel is set to be released on September 27th!

Mark and Jay Duplass are making the jump to horror with their next film, the Patrick Brice-directed Peachfuzz. Thanks to our friends at The Film Stage, we've got the first poster for the film. The outlet also reports that the film has been picked up by Blumhouse Pictures.

The story follows “a young man (Mark Duplass) who answers a Craigslist ad and gets much more than he bargained for.” Jason Blum of Blumhouse Pictures (Paranormal Activity, Insidious and Sinister) are set to distribute and market the movie.

Here is what Duplass had to say about the news, “Our love for the absurd and uncomfortable combined with his horror experience is the exact fit we wanted for our vision for the found footage genre.”

HEROES FOR HIRE Headed to the Big Screen?

Marvel is blowing up at the movies, and they're developing more obscure properties such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man for the big screen. So why isn't Heroes for Hire in Marvel's pipeline? According to Bleeding Cool that could very well be the next property that gets the green light! The comic has been an on-and-off part of the Marvel Universe since 1978, when the impenetrable-skinned, super-strong Harlem hero Luke Cage first teamed up with kung fu billionaire Iron Fist to take on heroic jobs for a price.

Brian Michael Bendis, one of Marvel's prominent writers, will likely be writing the new comic slated to arrive on shelves this year. Here's what Marvel TV mogul Jeph Loeb said about Heroes for Hire possibly coming to the big screen,

Just like we just announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we are certainly looking at the Heroes for Hire franchise which is Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

I am loving the direction Marvel is headed, so Heroes for Hire would be a great addition to the Marvel movie Universe.

BORDERLANDS 2 - Check out This Epically Badass Replica of Zero's Sword

If you’re one of the very few people in the world who has not had a chance to check out Borderlands 2, well then… I feel very bad for you. But for the rest of you, I present this beyond amazing replica of Zero’s digistruck sword made by Michelle Khuu.

It should come as no surprise that someone would want to make this, seeing how a lot of people chose Zero as their first character. But you may be wondering what the hell it’s made of. The sword is comprised of wood, LED ribbons to give it that stunning blue glow, a 9 volt battery and blue acrylic. We have to hand it to Michelle; she is very crafty.

Is Zero your favorite character from the game? If not, who is?

Paul Dano Joins Brian Wilson Biopic LOVE & MERCY

Paul Dano has been cast in the lead role of the Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy. The production company developing the movie, River Road, announced that Dano has been cast in the lead role of Wilson in the story. They also report that movie composer Atticus Ross (The Social Network) is also in talks to score the film.

Here's what Wilson had to say about Dano plying him in the movie:

I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career. I still can't believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can't wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn.

Dano has starred in some great films in his career. He's a very talented young actor, and this sounds like another cool project for him to take on.

Amazing Hand Painted Poster for Brad Bird's THE INCREDIBLES

We don't see many hand painted posters for movies these days. All of the posters for the Disney animated films used to be hand painted with airbrush, it's a dead art form when it comes to the movie marketing machine now. These days everything is terribly photoshopped.

Director Brad Bird revealed a great hand painted poster for The Incredibles by Robert McGinnis. This is my favorite Pixar movie, and this poster is so much cooler than anything else that was released for it.

J.J. Abrams to Produce Lance Armstrong Biopic

As you may already know, world famous cyclist Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah that that he did in fact dope up to win the races he participated in. Now it looks like were going to get a film based on the rise and fall of the disgraced legend.

Paramount Pictures is once again teaming up with J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company to make a film based on the events that have transpired in Armstrong's life. The movie will be based on a book that has yet to be written by Juliet Macur, called Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong

According to Deadline, Macur is a sports reporter for The New York Times who covered Armstrong's career for over a decade, through the cyclist’s recovery from cancer to his capture of seven Tour de France titles. She has also covered the doping allegations that Armstrong vehemently denied before finally falling on his sword in the interview with Oprah.

Sony was actually developing a film at one point with Jake Gyllenhaal attached to star. It would have told the inspiring heroic tale of an athlete who overcame adversity. They ended up dropping the project when questions started to arise about Armstong's doping. Now a movie will tell the story of a cheater.

It's sad to see someone like Armstrong who has gone through so much in his life, who was supposed to be this inspiring figure of hope end up in this position. But, he's the one that put himself in it, and there are consequences to the choices he made. I'm sure it will end up being a great movie, that people will want to see.

Alfonso Gomez-Rejon is in talks to direct a remake of The Town That Dreaded Sundown, which will be produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions and Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story).

Gomez-Rejon has directed episodes of American Horror Story and served as second unit director on Ben Affleck's Argo. The film is a remake of the Charles B. Pierce movie, which was loosely based on a true story that follows Texarkana residents terrorized by the "Phantom Killer" during the late '40s.

Charlie Hunnam to Join Guillermo Del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK

$

A couple of days ago we reported that Emma Stone was in talks to star in Guillermo del Toro's fun sounding new horror film project Crimson Peak. Today we've learned that Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) is looking to join the film as well! Del Toro is a huge fan of Sons of Anarchy, and he must have enjoyed working with the actor on Pacific Rim because he wants to keep working with him.

There's not a lot of story details on the movie, but we know it's an original ghost story that Del Toro wrote with collaborator Matthew Robbins. The director previously described it as “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.” When talking about the inspiration for the this project he said,

To me that is Robert Wise’s The Haunting, which was a big movie, beautifully directed, with the house built magnificently. And the other grand daddy is Jack Clayton’s The Innocents. I’ve always tried to make big-sized horror movies like the ones I grew up watching. Films like The Omen, The Exorcist and The Shining, the latter of which is another Mount Everest of the haunted house movie. I loved the way that Kubrick had such control over the big sets he used, and how much big production value there was. I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback.

He was also went on to talk about the tone of the film, saying that it's going to be a gothic romance, "It's got a lot of darkness and sound and fury and drama and stormy," he explained. "But at the core of it is a scary movie."

Del Toro is putting together a solid cast for this movie, and I'm excited to see these talents come together to create a horror film for us.

FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR Art by Paul Ainsworth

I may be the one of the few people that thinks Flight of the Navigator is one of Disney's most underrated movies. Here is some great art by Paul Ainsworth inspired by the film. The pieces will be shown at Bottleneck Gallery in NYC.

Here is a description of the art:

Preview of my latest piece to be put up at Bottleneck Gallery. They’re such a great place to do work with and now they’re even printing Giclee prints for anyone who needs them! I was thinking of not putting in anything but Joe down at the gallery told me they can print right there at the gallery for us who might not have time to get screenprints done in time. I’m looking forward to seeing pics seeing as I have yet to see the print in person.

Should be an amazing show. Made some new friends through fans and artists alike. Great friggin’ experience is all I have to say. I see great things coming out of all this with Bottleneck.

ZOMBIELAND TV Series Character and Plot Info

$

0

With the success of The Walking Dead it's not surprising to me that we are going to see a series based on the classic zombie comedy Zombieland. It was originally intended to be a TV series anyway before it became a feature film. The series is set up at CBS and thanks to io9 we've got some information on the series to share with you. The site got their hands on a casting call, as well as some pages from a script, and it looks like the characters from the film will make a return. Those characters include Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, Little Rock and a couple of new characters named Fred and Ainsley. Don't expect the actors from the film to reprise their roles, and there are also a few changes to the characters. Below you'll find a breakdown of the characters in the series, which also reveals some spoilerish plot information...

Tallahassee is still kind of a snarky weirdo, but he seems to have a much less spiky relationship with Columbus. He and Columbus have a pretty amusing thing where they riff on the fact that Steven Seagal movies always have three-word titles like "Marked for Justice" or "May Cause Diarrhea." But Tallahassee also dispenses homespun wisdom about how to feel happy with your life. He also tells a weird story about being in a trailer park with a perpetually nude Matthew McConaughey. He also has a somewhat heartwarming scene where he tells Columbus that he's been wandering aimlessly for a long time, but maybe he's been put here for a reason — to help Columbus and the others.

Columbus is much the same, except that he tracks down his grandma and grandpa (Bubbie and Peepaw) only to find them recently zombiefied. Also, Columbus is trying to deal with his newfound relationship with Wichita, after their first kiss. He has started calling her "Krista," her real name — but there are some problems, especially after she finds him reading a book about fatherhood. He tries to organize a romantic scavenger hunt for her in the IKEA they're camping out in, but it goes kind of horribly.

Wichita is still trying to look after Little Rock, trying to teach her math with problems about someone stealing from a liquor store and jumping on a train going 42 miles per hour, with a cop chasing in a car going 88 miles per hour. We also learn a lot more about Wichita's backstory, including how she ran away from her father after he had her stealing people's Christmas presents — and later, she found out she had a sister who was also being a grifter with her dad.

Little Rock seems actually kind of excited about meeting Columbus' grandparents, before they turn out to be zombies. And she shares some of her own backstory, about how her dad parked her at a school while he went off grifting on his own — and then yanked her out of school right before a dance that she was looking forward to.

Fred and Ainsley are two office workers at the start of the zombie apocalypse, obliviously complaining about problems with their iPhones and getting the wrong order at Starbucks, which they admit are "first world problems" with a hashtag — while people are being disembowled just outside the window they're not facing. Tallahassee shows up to bring them their lunch orders, wearing a green polo shirt.

I loved the movie, and I think this could make for a really fun TV series. I'm happy to see that it's moving forward, and I can't wait to see how it turns out!

A new thriller from Battlestar Galactica developer/exec producer Ron Moore is on the way to SyFy. Deadline reports that his new show Helix is nearing a 13-episode pickup with a debut later this year.

Cameron Porsandeh penned the script and will serve as co-executive producer. Moore and Lynda Obst (Hot In Cleveland) are executive producers on the project. Helix is about "a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation." Sounds like this could be a cool show. We will keep you posted on this story as it develops.

It is a common saying that a man’s best friend....are his Gizmos and Gadgets? Sorry animal lovers but at this show, this new adage rings true. We are constantly reminded by popular culture that in a time of great need, there is nothing better to have at your side than something conjured up by man. Whether the Gizmo or Gadget’s idea came about while on the toilet, was made in the deep recesses of a dark and rodent filled cave, or just simply provides the speed necessary to get you from point A to point B (while eluding your followers), Bottleneck’s newest show focuses on the material items made popular by your favorite movies, television shows and books. Each artist will present a piece depicting a Gizmo or Gadget that has shaped our culture in some way, shape or form. Who said being materialistic was a bad thing?

We've got some amazing geek art from tonight's Bottleneck Gallery's Gizmos and Gadgets Show in NYC, and your chance to win a print. The show starts tonight with an opening reception from 7-10pm, and runs until February 3. Keep reading to check out the images and to enter the giveaway.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City sequel has gained three new cast members. ComingSoon reports that Ray Liotta (Goodfellas, Killing Them Softly), Juno Temple (The Dark Knight Rises) and Jeremy Piven (Entourage) have joined the cast.  Production is currently underway on the sequel with an October 4 release planned.

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For follows "Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to “The Big Fat Kill” and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face. The film weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town's most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants."

They join original cast members Mickey Rourke as “Marv,” Jessica Alba as “Nancy,” Rosario Dawson as “Gail”, and Jaime King as “Goldie/Wendy”. The new cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt as “Johnny,” Dennis Haysbert as “Manute,” Jamie Chung as “Miho," Christopher Meloni as a yet to be named policer officer, and Josh Brolin starring as "Dwight."

SKYRIM - DLC Is Finally Coming to the PS3 and at a Temporary Discount

Wow. How long has it been since the first piece of Skyrim DLC came out? For over a year, Sony-lovers have been held back from enjoying everything that the world of Skyrim can offer. I know I have. I am one of those sad Playstation owners who felt shafted with this whole DLC thing.

Anyway, according to the Playstation Blog, the Dragonborn, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard DLC will be arriving next month (February). An exact date has yet to be released, but at least we have a month, right?

Not only can Sony fanboys finally get their hands on this extra content, it will also be 50% off for the release week of the DLC. Yo, that's a pretty great deal. So, this must be Bethesda's (or Sony's) way of saying they are sorry for having such a difficult system to develop on.

I can only assume that all the DLC will be buggy as hell when it first comes out. The PS3 does not do well with Bethesda games. Oh, well!

Anchor Bay has purchased The Rambler, starring Dermot Mulroney, prior to its midnight premiere at Sundance. Above is the official artwork from Sundance, and below is the official press release.

Official Synopsis:

Anchor Bay Films kicks off the 2013 Sundance Film Festival with the pick-up of The Rambler starring Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Grey). Written and directed by Calvin Lee Reeder, the film is set to premiere on Monday, January 21st (11:59pm) during Park City at Midnight. The agreement covers theatrical, home entertainment, television and digital distribution rights in the North America, the U.K. and Australia. Today’s announcement was made by Anchor Bay Entertainment’s President Bill Clark.

“Anchor Bay is the perfect partner for Calvin’s film The Rambler,” stated Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “It has all the elements that our fans truly love and we look forward to working with Calvin.”

XYZ Films’ (“The Raid”) co-founder Nate Bolotin produced alongside Brooklyn Reptyle Films’ Roger M. Mayer and Christo Dimassis. Clayton Young of Benaroya Pictures is also producing on behalf of AKA Pictures along with James Lesjek. The film is an AKA Pictures presentation and was financed by Michael Benaroya through his genre label, AKA Pictures. AKA/Benaroya Pictures head of production Joe Jenckes is also serving as executive producer along with his Bow Street Films partner, David Dickson, under a new partnership between AKA and Bow Street. Nick Spicer and Aram Tertzakian from XYZ are also executive producers.

After being released from prison, a man known as The Rambler (Mulroney) stumbles upon a strange mystery as he attempts a dangerous journey through treacherous back roads and small towns en route to reconnecting with his long lost brother. The Rambler co-stars Lindsay Pulsipher (“True Blood”, “Hatfields & McCoys”) and Natasha Lyonne (American Pie).

The film is based on Reeder’s critically-acclaimed short of the same name that screened at the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW back in 2008. Reeder was also named as one of the 25 new faces of independent film in Filmmaker Magazine for 2007.

“I've always loved Anchor Bay Films. Repo Man, Holy Mountain and El Topo make my top 10 all timers for sure. I am so excited to be working with the company that revived those legendary midnight movies, it's a real honor,” said Reeder.

The deal was negotiated by Kevin Kasha and Marc Barson for Anchor Bay Films and by Nate Bolotin for XYZ Films. Foreign sales will be handled by Celluloid Nightmares, the partnership between XYZ Films and Celluloid Dreams.
