TERMINATOR 5 Moving Forward!

$

0

I've been wondering when we would start seeing some movement on Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures' Terminator 5 film. Today Deadline reports that the production companies have hired Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to write the script for the film.

Kalogridis has worked on films such as Avatar, Shutter Island and Alexander, and Lussier has worked on Wes Craven’s Dracula, Drive Angry and My Bloody Valentine. It's an interesting screenwriting team, each one has a very different speciality. I guess they figure combining the two will make for a good script. One is good for providing good story and psychological elements, the other would be good for throwing some fun crazy action into the mix.

Megan Ellison paid a lot of money for the Terminator rights, and recently teamed up with her brother David Ellison to help bring the film to the big screen. At one point Fast Five director Justin Lin was set to direct the film but ended up dropping out of the project to work on his other projects. I assume Arnold Schwarzenneger is still attached to reprise his robot role. Hopefully they bring on a solid director, and end up making a great R-rated action-packed Terminator movie!

Ron Howard Teaming Up with J.J. Abrams for ALL I'VE GOT

J.J. Abrams is producing and developing a feature film adaptation of a 2003 Israeli TV movie of the week called Kol Ma She'Yesh Li (in English, All I’ve Got). It's set up through his Bad Robot productions, and they've brought on Ron Howard to direct it.

I'm sure a lot of you have never heard of this movie, but that's OK, neither have I. Thanks to Vulture we have a little description for you,

All I’ve Got is equal parts The Notebook and — if we’re not dating ourselves too much — Albert Brooks’s Defending Your Life: a fantasy-thriller about a young, very-much-in-love man and woman who get into a freak car accident in which the man is killed. Though the woman moves on and marries another man with whom she has three children, her own death 50 years later only opens more doors. In the afterlife, she is given the choice of forgetting the memory of her life after the accident and becoming young again to be with her first love, or choosing to remain as she is and waiting for her second husband’s death.

This is definitely an interesting premise, and I can easily see Howard and Abrams developing this type of movie. Howard is a great director, who's currently working on his Formula One film Rush. There's no word on when he will be making this new movie, but it's very cool to see him and Abrams working together. Does this sound like an interesting film project to you?

I wonder what going on with Howard's Dark Tower series. I hope it's not completely dead!

Skelanimals DC Heroes - Plush Series 2 Hits Stores Soon

What's crazy about this is I wasn't even aware of series 1 till tonight. I love these things! For those unfamiliar with what Skelanimals are, they are plush animals that have met a rather abrupt end, but somehow still maintain an adorable quality. You know, besides the being dead part.

They now have a series of DC based Skelanimals, and series 1 contained Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, and the Flash. Series 2 will add Wonder Woman, Bane, Harley Quinn, and Robin. You can also preorder series 1 of the PVC Toy Line, which includes Supes, Bats, GL, and Flash. I've been looking for some additional things to populate my desk at work (in addition to the Buddy The Elf & Captain America Funko Pop Figures that already reside there), and I'm thinking these would be perfect. Adorable, and kind of quirky at the same time, these things are hard not to love. You can pre order them from big bad toystore right now, and each one will cost you around $27 (the PVC line will cost you about $48 as a set). They are both slated to arrive sometime in May of this year.

If only that Green Lantern ChungKee came in a Hope Corp version.

Here's an amazingly entertaining piece of video game geek art featuring a crazy looking Egyptian monster mummy sneaking up on Lara Croft. I found the illustration very funny, and I hope you do as well! The piece was created by Otto Schmidt, the same guy who brought us Selina Catwoman Racer and Poison Ivy Seduces Batman. I think he has a really cool and playful style.

I still have yet to see Texas Chainsaw 3D, but the trailer didn't impress me enough to spend my time or money on it. It did fairly well without my money though! I'm a fan of the first film, but none of the sequels or remakes match the horror and awesomeness of the original. Here's a cool series of concept art for the film though from creature artsit Jerad S Marantz that shows us some other designs of what Leatherface could have looked like in the film. Look them over, and if you saw the movie, let me know if you liked it or not!

Interview: END OF WATCH's Natalie Martinez

End of Watch arrives on Blu-ray and DVD January 22, and I will be reviewing the Blu-ray this weekend. Directed by David Ayer, the film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Anna Kendrick, America Ferrera, Frank Grillo, Michael Peña, and Natalie Martinez.

This week I had the chance to interview the lovely Natalie Martinez (The Baytown Outlaws, Death Race, Broken City), who plays the role of Gabby in the film. Martinez has worked as a model and has starred in numerous TV shows, and films.

Here is the interview:

Natalie, you got your start doing modelling. What was it like making the jump to television and then into films?

It was just moving from one job to another. I was very fortunate. I was able to go directly from one opportunity to the next, there was no down time for me.

Do you have a certain type of project you look for when deciding to take on a role?

I kind of lean towards strong female roles. I like working with different people, and look at the people that I am working with and the characters and just see if I can bring anything different to the table on that.

In Death Race there was some intense action sequences, and in End of Watch there are some intense dramatic moments for your character. Which of these types of scenes do you prefer shooting?

I love action, because i love getting my hands dirty and love being active. I also love the feeling you get after letting the walls down for a dramatic scene. The feelings are very intense.

How did you prepare for your role as Gabby - especially that of playing a pregnant wife of a police officer, one you worry may not return home each day? End of Watch takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Well I've played a cop before, so I had the opportunity to meet a lot of cops and their families. I also have a friend of mine who is a cop, and I have been friends him and his wife. I have had the chance to speak with police and their wives. I also put myself into that position, the mindset of what it would feel if every time my husband went to work, if he would be coming home alive.

How did you channel the appropriate emotions for some of the dramatic sequences?

I was being in the moment, and had such a special bond with the cast. It was also helpful that really dramatic scene was filmed at the very end. So we had each built some great bonds with one another, and that made it easy for me to call on specific emotions. I also really loved the script and how it was written, so the story really had me. I also have had someone that passed away so I used that to help me get into the right mindset.

It looked as though you had solid chemistry with Michael Pena. What was it like playing his wife in the film?

It was so much fun, we put a lot of time into that. We went out to lunch and dinner and spoke a lot on the phone getting to know each other. That really made it comfortable for both of us.

You have had the chance to work with some fantastic directors, which has been your favorite so far?

I love them all, they all have done something different for me that they all have a special place in my heart.

Are there any special memories or funny stories you have from filming End of Watch that you can relate to us?

The entire End of Watch filming process, because everyday was so much fun. Everyone got along so well that everyday was a lot of fun.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Broken City opposite Russell Crowe, Mark Wahlberg and Catherine Zeta-Jones. What other projects do you have lined up? If not, is there a type of movie or television show you would like to work on?

I would like to do a romantic comedy, kind of a little quirky comedy. I am in talks right now for a new film, but nothing is finalized now.

Be sure to pick up End of Watch next week on Blu-ray, and stay tuned for my review!

New Bubblicious Photos from OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

It must be kind of fun traveling by bubble. Here's a few new photos from Sam Raimi's fun looking fantasy adventure film, OZ The Great and Powerful. One of them features Glinda (Michelle Williams) happily riding around in a bubble, while Oscar Diggs (James Franco) isn't enjoying it as much. The other two photos give us a look at some behind the scenes action. The movie is set to be released on March 8th!

"Oz The Great and Powerful," directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum's beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he's hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone's been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

What if STAR WARS Battle Scenes Were MEGA MAN Boss Levels?

Yeah, I know you just read the title of this article with a huge “WTF?!” face. I did as well when I first came across this amazing pixel art.

This fantastic artwork is made by artist Ty Lettau. As you can see, he captures some of the greatest scenes from throughout the Star Wars franchise, and reimagines them as Capcom’s hit game, Mega Man. I’m actually surprised there’s not one done for the scene where Luke battles Darth Vader and loses his hand. Regardless, these are all just simply great!

It does make me think, if LEGO has success reimagining games, could Mega Man do the same?

SPLINTER CELL: BLACKLIST - New Release Date/Politically Fueled Trailer

I don't think I have ever been excited for a Splinter Cell game. I always enjoyed the series, but it never grabbed me in any particular way. Blacklist is shaping up to be a violent blast, and even if Michael Ironside is no longer playing Sam Fisher, I am ready to start shooting some terrorists.

The game has also been pushed to August 20th. I'm not sure why they did that (probably to polish it up), but Ubisoft can take all the time they want. Hey, they pushed Far Cry 3 and that turned out really well, so I'll have faith here too.

Insanely Strange Teaser Trailer for WRONG COPS

Director Quentin Dupieux has made some amazingly weird movies in his career; in fact, that's just his thing. He's the guy that made the movie Rubber, about a telepathic tire that kills people. He's in the process of developing his next movie, called Wrong Cops, and it looks like it could be his craziest movie yet. You'll get a taste of the insanity in this teaser trailer that was just released.

He's not finished making the movie yet, but that's not stopping him from premiering the first 45 minutes of it at the Sundance Film Festival. The movie stars Mark Burnham, Marilyn Manson, Eric Wareheim, Jonathan Lajoie, and several others. Here's a synopsis:

Imagine a Los Angeles where crime is so low that a bored cop (Mark Burnham) sells drugs and harasses a teenager (Marilyn Manson) to pass the time. Shot in stand-alone chapters as it is being financed, screened, and released, Wrong Cops is gonzo filmmaking with a unique online strategy. Watch the first 45 minutes of craziness, and then dive into conversation with the cast and creative team.

Now watch the trailer to see the awesome madness for yourself!
