Why is Yoda selling Nissin Cup Noodles to the Japanese? I would think that Jedi Master Yoda has much better things to do than sell Ramen Noodles. I do have to admit that it's probably the greatest Cup Noodles commercial ever made, it may be the only Cup Noodles commercial I've ever seen though. Watch it below and hit us up with your thoughts.

Universal Pictures has acquired a spec script from the writer/director of The Strangers, Bryan Bertino. The project is yet another found footage thriller that will be produced by Jason Blum of the Paranormal Activity films. There is absolutely no information on what this movie will be about, other than it's a found footage thriller. As of right now Bertino is not even attached to direct the film. Other than that, I have no idea what this thing is going to be.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN - Jason Momoa Audition Footage

So why was Jason Momoa cast as Conan in the latest movie? In all honesty, I think it was his casting that played a big role in the failure of the film. That, and of course the script sucked. I was never sold on this actor as Conan, and after watch this audition footage, I still can't understand why they ultimately cast him because these looked like terrible auditions! There must have been better performances than this! This video basically proves that Momoa was the wrong choice even though they are say it was the right one. Watch the video and tell me what you think.

Jim Henson Puppet Comedy Picked up by NBC

The NBC network is taking on a new Jim Henson Compnay puppet comedy series called The New Neighbors, which is described as a "a single-camera comedy project that centers on a family that lives in Palm Springs and is aghast with their new neighbors -- a gang of puppets."

The project will be developed by Jim Henson Studios along with Universal Television. 30 Rock executive producer John Riggi and John Hoffman will be writing and executive producing the new series along side Henson Company CEO and Jim Henson's daughter Lisa Henson.

This should end up being a very interesting series. At least we know it's got some talented funny writers behind it, so chances are it will be funny. What are your thought's on a TV project like this?

Julie Delpy directing Clash's Joe Strummer Biopic

Before Sunset’s Julie Delpy has found her next project. Variety reports that she is directing a biopic about the Clash frontman Joe Strummer titled The Right Profile. Simon Halfon (Sleuth). Delpy may end up starring in the film as well, since she often stars in the films she directs.

An icon in the British punk movement, Strummer died a month before he and the band were to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Not much is known about the biopic, but the idea is to “focus on Strummer's life and his planned disappearance from the public spotlight in 1982.” The film is the same name as the song that appeared on the Clash's 1979 album London Calling."

I am a huge fan of the Clash so this is a movie I would like to see. Delpy is a great actress, but I have never seen anything she has directed. There has been talk of a sequel to Before Sunset from Richard Linklater with Ethan Hawke, which I'd also like to see.
What are your thoughts?

Ron Howard to Direct Doc Holliday Western Drama for HBO

Ron Howard is set to direct a Western drama series about Doc Holliday for HBO. The drama will be produced by Oscar winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind), who just signed a two-year exclusive deal with HBO. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage (Accepted) will write the script for the project. In my opinion, The best portrayal of Doc Holliday ever was by Val Kilmer in the movie Tombstone.

According to Deadline, "The project is inspired by Mary Doria Russell’s critically praised novel Doc, which was published in May. Doc Holliday is often portrayed as an ailing sidekick (he died from tuberculosis at age 36), best known for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. But the HBO project aims to put Holliday front and center as the series protagonist, an educated Southern gentleman and dentist by trade, thrust into the cruel and violent world of the Old West in order to salvage his ailing health. The series will feature the never-before-explored love triangle between Holliday, his prostitute wife, Kate Elder and best friend, Wyatt Earp — all set against the lawlessness and desperation of a rapidly changing society."

If you've been reading our site for awhile then you already know how big of a fan I am of Westerns. I also think Howard is a great choice to direct the pilot episode of the series. Goldsman and Howard are also both currently working on developing Steven King's Dark Tower series, it was during their collaboration on that project that this Doc Holiday one came up.

I'm excited to see how this series turns out. I'm mostly looking forward to seeing who ends up being cast as Doc Holiday. Who do you think should play the old west legend?

Here's a summary description of the book:

The year is 1878, peak of the Texas cattle trade. The place is Dodge City, Kansas, a saloon-filled cow town jammed with liquored-up adolescent cowboys and young Irish hookers. Violence is random and routine, but when the burned body of a mixed-blood boy named Johnnie Sanders is discovered, his death shocks a part-time policeman named Wyatt Earp. And it is a matter of strangely personal importance to Doc Holliday, the frail twenty-six-year-old dentist who has just opened an office at No. 24, Dodge House.

Beautifully educated, born to the life of a Southern gentleman, Dr. John Henry Holliday is given an awful choice at the age of twenty-two: die within months in Atlanta or leave everyone and everything he loves in the hope that the dry air and sunshine of the West will restore him to health. Young, scared, lonely, and sick, he arrives on the rawest edge of the Texas frontier just as an economic crash wrecks the dreams of a nation. Soon, with few alternatives open to him, Doc Holliday is gambling professionally; he is also living with Mária Katarina Harony, a high-strung Hungarian whore with dazzling turquoise eyes, who can quote Latin classics right back at him. Kate makes it her business to find Doc the high-stakes poker games that will support them both in high style. It is Kate who insists that the couple travel to Dodge City, because "that's where the money is."

And that is where the unlikely friendship of Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp really begins - before Wyatt Earp is the prototype of the square-jawed, fearless lawman; before Doc Holliday is the quintessential frontier gambler; before the gunfight at the O.K. Corral links their names forever in American frontier mythology - when neither man wanted fame or deserved notoriety.

Authentic, moving, and witty, Mary Doria Russell's fifth novel redefines these two towering figures of the American West and brings to life an extraordinary cast of historical characters, including Holliday's unforgettable companion, Kate. First and last, however,

Paramount Pictures has released another new film clip from the Brad Bird directed film Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. This is pretty funny clip featuring Simon Pegg and Jeremey Renner going over a plan they've come up with. The movie brings together the great and familiar cast that includes Tom CruisePaula PattonJosh HollowayMichael NyqvistVladimir MashkovLea Seydoux and Anil Kapoor.

I'm very excited for this movie. I actually wrote up an article earlier today pointing out my five favorite scenes from the Mission: Impossible film franchise. Check it out and tell us your favorite Mission: Impossible scene!

Here's the short synopsis:

Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol". Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency's name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know.

The film will be released in IMAX theater on December 16th and will hit all the other theaters five days later. Check out the new film clip below and tell us what you think!

Book Review: THE ART OF THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN Is Better Than a DVD Special Feature

$

"The Art of The Adventures of Tintin" is a sensational collection of photos, models, costume designs, concept art, and stories about the production of one of the year's best films. (Check out my review of the movie from the AFI Film Festival.) Written by Weta Digital's Chris Guise, the lead conceptual designer for the film, this book goes above and beyond similar volumes of its kind, providing specific details about the history of the production, the involvement of all the key players, featuring interviews with the cast and crew, and much more. It's a must-own not only for fans of Tintin and Herge (the artist who created the character), but for film fans interested in the process of performance capture technology or digital artistry in general.

With forewords from director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson, "The Art of The Adventures of Tintin" goes deep into the minds of the filmmakers and reveals their process for bringing Tintin's globe-spanning adventures to the big screen. Ever wondered how the tech from Avatar is being used in mo-cap films today? The team at Weta Digital breaks it down in an easy-to-understand way that's perfect for advanced film lovers and younger audiences alike. Why did the filmmakers choose this particular Tintin story to tell as a movie? The answer also lies within. (I'll tell you anyway - it's actually a combination of three different Tintin comics.) The film was intended to be shot in live action, but instead of just telling you that, this book SHOWS you what it would have looked like and explains why they went in a different direction. These are just a few of the insights into the creation of this film that the book explores.

In a "Note from the Author" section of the book, Chris Guise explains why this book is different from every other book out there. I'll let him tell you in his own words:

The way I've written this book is unlike most 'Art of' books out there. In the following pages you'll see many images for things that never made it to the final film. So many times I've read books where they show approved designs which closely resemble the final design, then they show a screen shot from the film. All the design work leading up to that final image is never seen by the public and, as a fan and an artist, that irritates the heck out of me! In this book you'll see a wide variety of imagery from all steps of the process. Some designs made it through, others didn't. But at least you can now see, and, I hope, understand how every design decision led to that final shot on the big screen.

Moulinsart - "the official organization that looks after the world of Tintin" - has provided Guise and his team with some of Herge's work to compare and contrast with the various stages of character and environmental designs throughout the filmmaking process. Side-by-side comparisons showing early conceptual renderings of the characters mimicking Herge's original panels are a highlight, and it demonstrates the passion of Spielberg and everyone at Weta for sticking to Herge's vision and bringing that distinctive style into a 3D world.

The book costs $39.99, but trust me - you'll get your money's worth out of it. Don't believe me? Check out this random video I found on YouTube of a guy flipping through all 200 pages of the book and see for yourself: there's a ton of amazing art that's worth displaying, and it's amazing how much detail goes into bringing Herge's creation from comics to screen and back to the page again. And here's a special bonus, accesible for a limited time only: "The Art of The Adventures of Tintin" is available right now on Amazon.com for only $24.88! It's a fantastic deal that would make a great gift for your geek friends or family members. Trust me - this is not something you want to miss.

G.I. JOE Fan Film - OPERATION: RED RETRIEVAL

$

Here's a pretty awesome fan made G.I. Joe film that is worth watching if you have the time. The 20-minute short film is called Operation: Red Retrieval, and it was directed by Mark Cheng. It was filmed over a period of 18-months with a canon 7D and produced for $2500. It contains over 150 visual effects and is a tribute director Mark Cheng's childhood love of action figures. This film has got some pretty impressive and surprising moments.

Here's a note from the director:

This is NOT the GI Joe movie you've all been dying to see.

This is NOT the GI Joe movie you're dying to unsee.

This is the GI Joe movie I saw in my head more than 25 years ago. I watched the cartoons, read the comics, and collected the toys when I was a kid. Eventually I moved on from GI Joe but from that franchise came my love for war movies - Saving Private Ryan, Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers - and my deep respect for the armed services and the men and women who serve.

Through working on this film - a process that took a year and a half - I realized the significance that GI Joe played in my childhood. Batman works alone, X-men was about strength in diversity, Transformers was pure awesome robots. But GI Joe was about a team of heroes working together, taking care of one another, never giving up, and staying until the fight was won. That's what I saw in my head, kept in my heart, and what I've tried to put into this film. As adults we've lost some of our innocence and, tragically, some of our idealism. We know heroes don't dodge bullets by doing cartwheels. Sometimes they get hurt, sometimes they don't come home. But under layers of dirt, grime, and blood, the hero is still there and he still sacrifices. And it's under those same layers of dirt and blood, that the spirit of GI Joe will always live.

The other thing I wanted to capture is that feeling from when I was 8 years old lying the floor with my action figures. I'd line up my GI Joe figures next to my Star Wars figures next to my He-Man figures and next to my Autobot Transformers. It didn't matter that the toys were of a different scale, possessed inexplicable powers, came from different brands, or lived in different universes. The ONLY things that mattered was that Good was about to defeat Evil, and that it was going to be SOOOO AWESOMEEEE.

So in a way, this is not the GI Joe movie I saw in my head 25 years ago. The film started that way, grew up like I did, got dirty like the world around us, but finds itself once again like the inner kid we all have within us.

Jeremy Renner Reveals some THE BOURNE LEGACY Details

The next movie we will see Jeremy Renner in will be Brad Bird's Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. He just finished shooting The Avengers as Hawkeye. As of right now he's currently prepping for his lead role in the upcoming new Bourne film... The Bourne Legacy, which is being directed by Tony Gilroy. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine Renner reveals some details on the story for the film and the character he plays.

My character is called Aaron Cross, but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it's a new program and new characters.

When the actor was asked if the Treadstone program from the Jason Bourne books and movies is still involved, Renner said,

Yeah, it's that same deal, it's just a new set of agents with a different leash. It's the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you'll know it's a Bourne movie.

I've enjoyed all of the Bourne films, and I think Renner is a great choice to continue the franchise. As long as the story is solidly entertaining and the action is exciting then I think everyone will be happy. What do you think about this new Bourne film being made?

Universal Pictures has scheduled the movie to be released on August 3rd 2012, and Renner is surrounded by a wonderful team of actors that includes Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach and Scott Glenn.

Here's a great poster design for Ed Wood's classic sci-fi horror film Plan 9 From Outer Space. This movie has gone down in history as the worst movie ever made, but I don't thinks it's any worse than some of the other movie Hollywood is spitting at audiences these days. The poster was designed by illustrator Barry Blankenship. What do you all think about the poster design?

The poster was created for a special screening event for the film with two Mystery Science Theater commentators and comedian Dana Gould up in Seattle on December 8th.
