Leonard Nimoy's Incredibly Weird And Catchy Ballad Of Bilbo Baggins

$

In a video so weird, I thought it an elaborate prank devised by Zachary Quinto to get some additional Star Trek 2 coverage, we have... this. No it's not the new Mr. Spock, but the one and only Leonard Nimoy belting out his love for the greatest little Hobbit of all time. Bilbo (Bilbo!) Bilbo Baggins only three feet tall. This is why I love the internet.

On a related note we are still doing our Soundtrax In The Shire giveaway! You can win 1 of 4 digital copies of The Hobbit soundtrack, courtesy of Soundtrax and Water Tower music! To win, share this post on Facebook or follow @Soundtrax on Twitter and retweet the podcast!

THE WALKING DEAD Is Even Better with Lightsabers!

We've all heard that everything is better with lightsabers, and that's most definitely true when it comes to The Walking Dead. We've got a fun image above featuring our favorite characters about to take on a horde of zombies with lightsabers. There's also a great video and image of Michonne using a lightsaber to take out a few walkers. I'm sure lightsabers would make it easier to survive in a post-apocalyptic world like this.

PACIFIC RIM - Epic New Photo of Gipsy Danger Jaeger

As we sit here in front of our computers and patiently wait for the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro's incredibly massive looking film Pacific Rim, Warner Bros. has released an epic new image giving us a look at one of the giant robot Jaegers in the movie. This one features the Gipsy Danger.

Stay tuned! We'll have the trailer up for you as soon as it's available in less than an hour! Yeah baby! Get ready to shit your pants with awesomeness!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Rustic Wooden R2-D2 iPhone Dock

I've never really envisioned Star Wars' R2-D2 in wood, but here he is in all his rustic wooden iPhone dock glory! The iPhone dock was handmade by Etsy user Valliswood

The wooden R2-D2 dock is compatible with the iPhone 3G/3GS iPhone 4/4S, iPhone 5 and iPod devices except the shuffle and new nano. Here's a note from the creator...

What to say... I am a big fan of the Star Wars and whole SF genre so logical extension of my work with wood is producing Robodock sculptures - robot sculptures in function of a docking station. It is really exciting to combine natural wood parts to assemble legendary R2D2. This robot is not a toy, it is sculpture with the function of a docking station and should be handled gently and with care.

The R2-D2 dock is selling for $210 over on Etsy.

GHOSTBUSTERS Live Read to Include Seth Rogen and Rainn Wilson

Director Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters director Ivan Rietman, is hosting a live read of the classic film, and he cast Seth Rogen, Jack Black, and Rainn Wilson to play the characters Dr. Peter Venkman, Ray Stanz, and Egon Spengler, respectively. The live reading will be combination of the original shooting script with Bill Murray’s classic improvised one-liners mixed in. Reitman talked about Murray's performance saying,

While almost all of the dialogue in original screenplay is echoed on screen, the Venkman character is completely improvised. It’s as if Bill Murray was given a mumblecore-style essay about each scene and then permitted to say whatever he wanted as long as he got the point across.

'He slimed me' is in the script, but not the follow-up line: 'I feel so funky.'

He’s like a jazz musician who knows, ‘I have eight measures here and have to hit this note here and as long as I follow those rules everything else is up to me.'

The event is being presented by Film Independent at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and takes places Thursday, December 12th. This is something I would to attend! Unfortunately, it's already sold out... Damn.

EW released the full cast list, and here's the line-up:

  • Peter Venkman – Seth Rogen
  • Ray Stantz – Jack Black
  • Egon Spengler – Rainn Wilson
  • Winston Zeddmore – Phil LaMarr (Marvin in Pulp Fiction)
  • Dana Barrett – Kristen Bell
  • Walter Peck – Kevin Pollak (as well as the voices of Larry King and Casey Kasem)
  • Janine Melnitz – Mae Whitman
  • Louis Tully – Paul Rust (Inglourious Basterds, I Love You Beth Cooper)
  • Everyone else – Paul Scheer

Reitman also gives a little note on why he cast the actors that he did for the event:

Seth Rogen as Peter Venkman
'It’s the most crucial and tricky piece of casting. I knew we needed an actor whose rhythms were equally unique to Bill Murray’s and had that kind of a swagger.'

Jack Black as Ray Stantz
'When you think about Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, you think about this positive enthusiasm and energy. No one has that like Jack Black.'

Rainn Wilson as Egon Spengler
'As originated by Harold Ramis, this part needs someone with an earnest, scientific mind and clear-cut decisive humor.'

Hopefully they release a video of this event!

Pine, Quinto and Cumberbatch Talk STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

$

Even after seeing the first trailer for J.J. Abram's Star Trek Into Darkness, we're still left with a ton of questions. Even those that saw the nine minute preview of the film didn't get everything they were hoping to get. I think the more we see of the film the more questions we'll have. One of the main questions on people's minds right now is who exactly is this John Harrison villain in the film? I personally think the villain is a combination of Kahn and Gary Mitchell. Some more interesting info is revealed for the film in this great recent interview.

Chris Pine (Jim Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Benedict Cumberbatch (John Harrison) sat down with MTV recently and talked about the highly anticipated sequel. Cumberbatch offers some new details on the villain he plays saying,

He's a terrorist; he operates as a terrorist. He has extraordinary physical powers, but also mental powers. He can sow an idea, which is as powerful as gunshots or close-hand combat, which he's masterful in. He tears into the fabric of both the world and the Enterprise family, and he leaves behind him a trail of devastation. It's quite exciting to watch.

Giving away the full motivation would ruin it, but it's personal. It's also political, I think. He's somebody who, at some point in the film, you should feel a certain amount of empathy towards his cause, if not his means. ... There's no two-dimensional obstacle he presents purely and simply by the fact that he's opposing our hero. He has an interesting relationship with Kirk, and with Spock in a way. He very much plays them off against each other. There's an element of shadow to him and Kirk.

Quinto goes on to talk about the possibility of one or more Enterprise crew members being killed off. The stakes are a lot higher this time around, and he also weighs in on the villain saying it's different from any villain that we've seen in Star Trek before,

There's reason to worry, let's say that much. The enemy that we face in this movie played by Benedict Cumberbatch is entirely different than enemies that we've seen this crew face in the past. There is an insidiousness, a ruthlessness and a fierce intelligence about his character that almost infiltrates and undermines the connectivity of the crew. There's a lot more at risk, so.. who knows.

Pine goes on to talk about his love interest in the film, Carol Marcus who is played by Alice Eve, and the role she plays in the story.

What I will say about the film is that so much happens, with the action, the plot, the current of it is so fast, there's really not much time for Kirk to do anything other than save the crew and save his own ass, because danger is imminent, and all that. But clearly, Kirk being Kirk, Kirk loves a blonde, and Alice is a beautiful woman, so the flirting and the connection is there. I'll leave it to the people who watch to see how far it goes. But what she adds to it ... she, her scientific knowledge and her education, scientifically speaking, plays a big part in helping solve the crisis.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set to hit theaters May 17th, 2013. What do you think about the information contained in these interviews? This is some exciting stuff, and I can't wait to see how this story plays out on the big screen! From the look of it it's going to be epically awesome! Check out the video interview below!

WARM BODIES - 5 Fun New Posters Released

$

Summit Entertainment has released five new posters for writer/director Jonathan Levine's great-looking zombie love story Warm Bodies. Each poster features a fun little tagline. The story shows us that love has the power to bring the walking dead back to life. If you've watched the trailers then you know that the film has a great mix of humor, horror, romance, and drama. I didn't think I'd be into a movie like this, but I was surprised by how good it looks, and now I'm excited to see it!

Warm Bodies is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human – setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

The film is an adaptation of a novel written by Isaac Marion, and it also stars Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco, and Rob Corddry. It's set to be released on February 1st, 2013.

Today Warner Bros. released one hell of a badass trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim. I'm sure you've all seen it, but it wouldn't hurt to watch it again! Here's a new poster and banner to add on the epic greatness of Pacific Rim! I'm so impressed with the grand scale of this movie!

The movie stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Idris Elba (Thor), Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom), Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, DiegoKlattenhoff and Brad William Henke.

THE WOLVERINE - Cool New International Motion Poster

There's some really awesome movies on the horizon, and James Mangold's The Wolverine is one of them. Twentieth Century Fox has released a cool new international motion poster for the film. It features Hugh Jackman as Wolverine patiently waiting in the rain with a samurai sword and his adamantium claws out. I really like this poster, and I can't wait to see what this movie is going to end up being like on the big screen!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

The movie also stars Will Yun Lee, Khodchenkova, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima, and Brian Tee. It's set to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013.

Trailer for THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT 2

The first trailer has been released for The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia. It may not look like the best horror movie, but as a fan of the genre I'll check it out. I'll watch almost anything when it comes to horror; good and bad. Of course it's always a plus for me when the film turns out to be great! I liked the first movie and the sequel looks like it will have its moments. You also can't go wrong with a red-headed Katee Sackoff!

Synopsis:

A young family is tormented by the horrors of the past in The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia, a chilling new film based on a true story from the producers of The Haunting in Connecticut.

Building on the terror of A Haunting in Connecticut, this horrifying tale traces a young family’s nightmarish descent into a centuries-old Southern hell. When Andy Wyrick (Chad Michael Murray, House of Wax) moves his wife Lisa (Abigail Spencer, TV’s Mad Men) and daughter Heidi to an historic home in Georgia, they quickly discover they are not the house’s only inhabitants. Joined by Lisa’s free-spirited sister, Joyce (Katee Sackhoff, TV’s Battlestar Galactica), the family soon comes face-to-face with a bone-chilling mystery born of a deranged desire…a haunting secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.

The stories for these horror movies were based on stories told in the Discovery series The Haunting, which focuses on real life ghost encounters. The sequel will get a limited theatrical release and hit VOD on February 1st, 2013.

Sacha Baron Cohen Back as Ali G at British Comedy Awards

I miss Sacha Baron Cohen's HBO series Da Ali G Show, it was pretty damn funny. So it was really cool to see him back as Ali G when he accepted his Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2012 British Comedy Awards. He seemed a little rusty, but for the most part he gave a great and funny acceptance speech! He gives the audience a fun little update about what he's been doing for the last 10 years. I'd like to see Ali G make a comeback, but I doubt it will happen, so I'll just take what I can get. Enjoy!

JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Story Details Revealed!

$

0

As Warner Bros. still looks for a director to take on their Justice League movie, more details about the film are leaking out. Thanks to our friends at Latino-Review we've learned what Justice League comic book story arc served as inspiration for the script that Will Beale is writing.

Gerry Conway’s 1980 Justice League Of America 183-185 is the story that we'll see brought to life on the big screen. Basically the three issue arc features the superhero team coming together to stop Darkseid from destroying Earth by blasting it with a death ray that’ll move Apokolips into the Earth’s place.

Here's the description from the comic:

im Starlin cover cover. (story line runs through #183-185) The annual team-up for the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America begins in this issue. This year the two teams, even with an assist from the New Gods, have their work cut out for them as they take on none other than Darkseid himself! Written by Gerry Conway with art by Dick Dillin and inks by Frank McLaughlin. This issue features Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Doctor Fate, Powergirl, Mister Miracle, Geoforce, and the the Huntress.

It's no surprise that they are going to go epically big with this one. It's going to be exciting to see all of these character up on the big screen together battling Darkseid. I just hope they can turn it into a great film, because it could easily end up being a mess. Let's hope they hire a solid talented director. What do you think of this story arc being the inspiration for the film?

Let's Get Depressed - New Trailer for DEAD ISLAND: RIPTIDE

$

OK, I know that the zombie apocalypse is not supposed to be the happiest thing in the world. You know, losing family, no internet, and people wanting to eat your face like they are high on bath salts. But man, is this little teaser-trailer for Dead Island: Riptide dour. A cute couple about to end their lives together with a sea of zombies at the door of their boat. There is something beautiful here and the music tries to emphasize that, but it's still super-sad. Metro: Last Light had a similar feeling trailer that was released earlier in the week. Is this the new thing? Make the gamer feel like garbage?

Dead Island: Riptide is not a proper sequel to Dead Island, but more of a spin off and it is being developed by Techland. As long as the combat system is a blast like in the first game, I expect to have a good time.

Watch Jason Schwartzman's Comedy Short DIE AGAIN, UNDEAD ONE

Roman Coppola directs Jason Schwartzman in this great comedy short film called Die Again, Undead One. The project is part of the Ultrabook Experience campaign, which is co-sponsored by Intel and W Hotels. The short features Schwartzman hunting down a vampire vixen. There's more to it than that, but that's how it begins and ends. The short is described as "an intergalactic vampire tale." I thought the short was very entertaining so enjoy!

Django Unchained got a Golden Globe nomination today for Best Picture. I have yet to see the film myself, but I hear it's a great and entertaining film. The movie is set to be released on Christmas Day, and I'm hoping to escape sometime during the Christmas weekend to see it.

We've got two new TV spots and two clips from the film to share with you today. The first clip features an intense exchange between Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz about getting dirty. The other clip was shown on the Jay Leno show and features Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson having a little talk about lying.

This looks like another badass classic Tarantino film. Check out the clips and spots and hit us up with your thoughts!
