MAN OF STEEL - Visualizing Superman for the Modern Day

$

Zack Snyder has made it very clear that the Superman portrayed in his new film Man of Steel is unlike any Superman we've ever seen on the big screen before. This is a reimagining of the character that I'm looking forward to seeing. As much as I loved the Christopher Reeves movies, the character needs to evolve with the times like Nolan did with Batman. Some purists might not like what they see, but all I can say is, keep an open mind because there's a good chance it could be incredibly awesome.

A new video has popped up online featuring visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri talking about "the importance of tapping into universal sensibilities when bringing Superman to a new generation of viewers." The movie hits theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on June 14th 2013! Here's the interview....

What are you looking for in a new Superman movie?

The movie stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and more. The new trailer will be released with The Hobbit on December 14th, so stay tuned for that!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD - First Footage Details!

So Marvel's International Vice President, Nigel Cook, showed off the first raw footage of Marvel's Thor: The Dark World at a cinema convention in Italy recently! For those of you who are excited about the movie and want to read the footage details you're in luck!

These roughly-translated descriptions come from @Thor2Fans and @vingadoresdepre via CBM. And yes they do contain some SPOILERS so be warned. The only things we've seen from this movie so far is from a ton of set photos and videos, all of which look awesome! I wish Marvel would release something kind of badass official image soon!

So here are the footage details from Alan Taylor's highly anticipated film!

In the preview, a voice-over is heard with the oath of the God of Thunder as the new supreme ruler. We see a clash between Thor and the enemy army, in a world that is neither Asgard let alone the Earth. We see Chris Hemsworth wielding his hammer and Tom Hiddleston as Loki first wounded without a helmet, with long, loose hair and then imprisoned; his anger increasingly desperate and irrational. Then there's a scene later in which he is free again, but still furious.

Against the backdrop of a forest, in the middle of a clearing, among the dust, we in fact face off anthropomorphic creatures, but also a big "gorilla" krosan tusker: a rather alien fauna varies so, although not extreme in size (there are also some envoys/ambassadors of a people mysterious, with oval face and black eyes, elongated and sunken)

The rest of the images show glimpses of Asgard, with Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Natalie Portman in clothes that seem more like a princess; an Asgardian princess. In between, there are images of an epic battle on horseback, who seems to have left an epic cloak-and-dagger. The threat to the Asgardians is certainly a new alien race pale (now identified as the dark elves).

A black spaceship shaped irregularly looks like a serious threat to Asgard. More sequences show Natalie Portman then alongside Thor lying on the ground, probably overwhelmed in a clash.

Damn, I can't wait to see this footage for myself one day! I'm sure there will be plenty of awesomeness to see at Comic-Con. After the clips were shown Cook said that the movie begins and ends with Earth, and as you might expect the set pieces for this film are bigger than any Marvel movie that's been made so far. The movie hits theaters on November 8th, 2013.

Synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962.

THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN - First Photo of Legolas

Here's the first official photo from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: There and Back and Again, which is the third film in the Hobbit trilogy. The photo features Orlando Bloom reprising his role as Legolas, and Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman.

Legolas isn't in the book, but he is part of the expanded Tolkien Middle Earth universe, which is being used to fill in some of the gaps. Jackson gives a little explanation,

He’s [elven king] Thranduil’s son, and Thranduil is one of the characters in The Hobbit. And because elves are immortal it makes sense Legolas would be part of the sequence in the Woodland Realm.

As for Bard the Bowman writer/producer Philippa Boyens explains that he'll have a bigger role in the film,

Bard is an interesting character, but [in the book] he’s kind of a random character who comes in after the fact. We take more time introducing him. We know from what follows that he was a father, so we [explore] that. I don’t think we take liberties, because it’s all there in the storytelling.

There's a ton of great stuff to look forward to seeing in these films that will be full of fun surprises! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released next week on December 14th. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be released on December 13th, 2013, and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released on July 18th, 2014.

MORTAL KOMBAT: This Jade Cosplay is Enough to Take a Fatality For

What can we not say about Mortal Kombat, it’s only one of the best fighting franchises of all time. With the recent announcement that Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 will premiere next year online, all we can do is get extremely excited with joy. Now if we could only get a new MK game, everything would be right in the world.

But until that happens, you will all have to settle for this very sexy cosplay of Jade from the hit franchise. Kristen Hughey is the woman behind the mask, and she is pulling off a flawless victory with this costume (yes, I just HAD to say that). Jade, along with Mileena and Kitana, were definitely some of the favorite female characters from the fighter lineup.

Don’t know your history about the character? Here’s a quick rundown from MortalKombat.Wikia.com:

Jade is a childhood friend of Princess Kitana. While her motives were unclear, she served Shao Kahn alongside Kitana and Mileena as his personal assassin for most of her life. When Kitana finally turned against Shao Kahn, Jade was ordered to capture her for the Emperor. She ultimately chose to join her friend, and has since loyally assisted Kitana in her quest to free their native realm and restore its original beauty. Now residing in the freed Edenia, Jade is a General of the Edenian Army and continues to dutifully serve Kitana and her mother Sindel.

Kristen Wiig Might Join ANCHORMAN: THE LEGEND CONTINUES

Bridesmaids star and SNL alumni Kristen Wiig could end up being cast in Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Anchorman: The Legend Continues. If she's cast in the long awaited comedy sequel she will play opposite Steve Carell as a love interest.

Wiig is one of the funniest female comedians out there right now and she would make a great addition to the cast of the film! The whole gang from the original film is getting back together again for the sequel including Christina Applegate and Paul Rudd. Of course we're going to see some new faces as well, Mckay is also planning on some more epic cameos.

The story follows the on-set adventures of San Diego’s top newsman, and it was previously revealed that it will partly be a musical, so that's something to look forward to!

Murderous Mime Short Film with Martin Freeman - The Girl Is Mime

Check out this wonderfully fun short film called The Girl is Mime, with The Hobbit star Martin Freeman as a Mime being questioned about the murder of his wife.

Did the mime commit the crime? Clive Buckle is being questioned about the murder of his wife. Interrogation brings back a slew of memories, some good, some bad...some sexy. The police are convinced he did it, they just need a weapon; but Clive's saying nothing.

The film was made for the London 48 Hour Film Project, 2010. We funded it entirely ourselves, hence why we have included the little 'Tip Jar' button... don't feel you have to though, we won't go hungry or anything. However, if you laughed, it's a £1,000 minimum.

The short was directed by Tim Bunn, and it turned out great! Check it out!

The battle for Middle Earth has begun! All of Isengard is unleashed against the fortress of Helm's Deep. In the midst of the chaos and carnage, one solitary elf seeks to aid his vertically challenged friend...no matter what the cost.

Random side note, how many times can you spot Chewbacca in this video? He has a habit of showing up...on BOTH sides of the conflict.

Enjoy the show!

Earlier today we posted an incredible 13-minute TV special for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, if you haven't watched it yet you should because it's awesome! Click here to check it out. To add on to The Hobbit awesomeness, here's a new film clip released by Warner Bros. featuring Gandalf warning the White Council of the dragon Smaug.

Gandalf says, "Smaug owes allegiance to no one, but if he should side with the enemy, the dragon could be used to terrible effect," to which Saruman replies, "What enemy? Gandalf, the enemy is defeated, Sauron is vanquished. He can never regain his full strength." Gandalf fires back, "There is something at work beyond the evil of Smaug, something far more powerful. We can remain blind, but it will not be ignoring us, that I can promise you." We all know what he's talking about!

The movie comes out in eight days, and in that time I'm sure well see a ton of new clips and trailers.

Johnny Depp has been in some pretty incredible movies over the years. Paramount Pictures has revealed the full list of IMAX theater locations where you will be able to watch the 9-minute extended preview of Star Trek Into Darkness. After seeing that short one-minute teaser I'm sure fans are dying to see more, and this is your chance!

It will be showing with IMAX 3D screenings of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, to find out if the Star Trek extended preview is playing at a theater near you, Click Here.

I'm going to have to wait to see the 9-minute preview until my second viewing of The Hobbit, because my first viewing will be in 48fps, but I can't wait to see it!

From the Press Release:

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

To further the IMAX experience, Star Trek Into Darkness used IMAX cameras to capture several sequences. Exclusively in IMAX theaters, sequences filmed with the extremely high-resolution cameras will expand to fill more of the screen with unprecedented crispness and clarity, putting moviegoers right into the explosive action and vast scope of the film.

Similar IMAX previews have been used to great success with films like The Dark KnightAvatar and, last year, Paramount's own Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The film, set for release on May 17, 2013, is directed by J.J. Abrams with a script by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof. Chris Pine, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin will reprise their roles from the 2009 original with new parts for Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Abrams is producing with Bryan Burk through Bad Robot Productions, along with Lindelof, Kurtzman and Orci.

PAN'S LABYRINTH Getting a Stage Play Musical Adaptation

Guillermo del Toro's incredible 2006 film Pan's Labyrinth is going to be adapted into a stage play musical. This is one of my favorite Del Toro films, and I think it would make for a great stage play. The story takes place in 1944 fascist Spain, and follows the young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer who escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.

Del Toro has been working on making this happen for the last four years, and he's hired Paul Williams to write the lyrics to the music, and Oscar winner Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain and Babel) to write the music. Here's what the filmmaker had to say, "I admire and love Gustavo and Paul wrote the perfect album in Phantom Of The Paradise, which I have loved for decades." Santaolalla added,

I’m so excited about translating Guillermo’s magical vision into music and songs. I’m such a longtime fan of both Guillermo and Paul that to work on this with them is truly a dream come true.

It will be awesome to see how this stage production turns out. I imagine the sets and costumes are going to be twistedly beautiful.

Check out this cool set of storyboard art from George Lucas' original Star Wars film. What makes this art a little bit cooler is that it was done by Captain America director Joe Johnston, who also came up with Boba Fett's badass design! I think it'd be great for Johnston to direct one of the many Star Wars movies that Disney and Lucasfilm plan on making. How cool would it be if he got to make a stand alone Boba Fett film?!

Universal Picks Up ARMADA - A Video Game Fan's Wish Come True?

Ready Player One author Ernie Cline has sold the feature film rights of his next novel, Armada, to Universal Pictures. According to Variety the story features "a high-concept hook that offers the ultimate wish fulfillment to every video game fan on the planet."

I have no idea what that could mean but I'm intrigued! As of right now there are no other details. The novel is based on a 20-page proposal and the book rights have already sold to Cown Publishing. The movie is being produced by Scott Stuber's Bluegrass Films and Dan Farah's Farah Films banner.

Cline's Ready Player One, previously sold to Warner Bros. and they are currently putting together a movie production based on an adaptation written by Cline and scribe Eric Eason. For those of you who are fans of the author's work then I think this new Armada project is something to get excited about!

For those of you not familiar with Cline's Ready Player One, here's a description,

At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, READY PLAYER ONE is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut—part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed.

It’s the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune—and remarkable power—to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday’s riddles are based in the pop culture he loved—that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday’s icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes’s oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt—among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life—and love—in the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

Yesterday there was a Hobbit news blitz that featured the wonderful 13-minute TV special, the first image of Legolas and Bard the Bowman in the third film There and Back Again, and a clip featuring the White Council discussing the dragon Smaug. Today we start the day off with a new photo from An Unexpected Journey featuring Gandalf (Ian McKellen) confronting the Goblin King (Barry Humphries). We only have one more week to go until we can see the movie! I'm sure they're will be plenty of Hobbit stuff to keep us occupied between now and then.

MAN OF STEEL - New Photo of Henry Cavill as Superman

Henry Cavill graces the cover of Studio Ciné Live magazine as Superman from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. It's really rare to see anything new for this movie. Warner Bros. is really holding back on it right now, but as you've seen with The Hobbit, one day the marketing push is going to be insane and we'll be seeing something new everyday. Until that day, we'll take what we can get!

The film will follow Superman's origin story showing Clark Kent's journey to becoming the Man of Steel. I'm looking forward to seeing how this movie turns out. As long as it keeps the heart and soul of who Superman is and what he represents, we will be happy with the outcome. A good script wouldn't hurt either!

Synopsis:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

The movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and more. The new trailer will be released with The Hobbit on December 14th, so stay tuned for that!

IRON MAN 3 - Japanese Trailer with More Footage!

We've got a cool new Japanese trailer for Marvel's Iron Man 3 showing off some more footage from the film! It looks like Shane Black has done a hell of a job directing this movie, and so far fans have been extremely happy with what they've seen from it. As previously discussed, the movie is going to be a little darker than the previous movies, but it still going to keep that same level of humor that we've seen in the other films.

The movie stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley.

Synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

The movie is set to be released on May 3rd, 2013.

STREET FIGHTER - Artist Designs Various Characters with a Realistic Touch

Hey Street Fighter fans! We have some epic art coming your way today from artist Filip Acovic. It features some of our favorite Street Fighter characters including Guile, Zangief, Balrog, Blanka and Sagat.

Now what’s so cool about these various illustrations is the touch of realism added to each of them. They almost look like they will hop out of the design and uppercut you. The only bad thing I can even say about them is that Blanka is looking a little emo with that hoodie on and everything.

Isn’t it about time that we got a new big budget Street Fighter movie?
