Check out this great illustration created by Deviant Artist user keh choon wee featuring Tim Burton inspired character designs for Han Solo and Chewbacca. This is all he had representing the Star Wars universe, but it would be cool if he created a few more character designs in the same fun style.

Family Guy's Seth MacFalane to Direct and Star in Western Comedy

0
0

Family Guy creator Seth MacFalane has set up his net feature film directing gig. It's a live-action western comedy called A Million Ways to Die in the West. Everyone seemed to love his first feature film comedy Ted, and this seems like another great project for him to take on, which he also plans on starring in.

The movie was written by Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild and the plot has been described as a "Blazing Saddles-style movie -- meaning a Western with contemporary humor, with one undercurrent being just how dangerous and painful life really was in the late 1800s." They're not many more details other than that right now, but I can see the potential on how this would make for a funny comedy.

MacFarlane is still working on Family Guy, a sequel to Ted, and is set to host the Oscars next year, which should be great!

New TERMINATOR Movies Will Be Produced by David Ellison

Almost 18 months ago Megan Ellison paid $20 million for the rights to the Terminator franchise so that she could develop a fifth Terminator film. At the time Justin Lin was brought on board to help develop it, and even Arnold Schwarznegger attached himself to the project. Things seemed to be moving forward with it until Lin dropped out of the project to focus on his Fast and Furious franchise. After he left we didn't hear much about the project and it seemed to fall into limbo.

Deadline reports today that Megan has hired her brother David Ellison to produce the film. As of right now there's no director or studio attached, but I image that is what David is going to help bring together. This is one of those projects that needs to go into production at some point because according to new copyright laws for North America, rights to The Terminator will revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019. I doubt Cameron will do anything with it then, but it's one of the main reason why studios don't want to get involved with the movie. They don't want to move forward on a project with a potential rights war waiting to happen.

Originally there were supposed to be three movies made, but since the rights revert back to Cameron in 2019 that was scaled back to only two because of the time frame they have to work with. As of right now it looks like they are starting from scratch on everything. If they're able to get things up an running on these Terminator films, hopefully they can bring together a great team that can do it right.

Megan and David Ellison were both executive producers on the Coen Brothers wester True Grit, and have both independently produced films as well. Megan produced Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, John Hillcoat’s LawlessKathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty, Andrew Dominik's Killing Them Softly and the upcoming David O Russell-directed Abscam movie with Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper, all through her Annapurna Pictures. As for David and his Skydance Productions, he's worked on Mission: Impossible–Ghost Protocol, Jack ReacherWorld War Z, G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, Star Trek into Darkness and Jack Ryan. As you can see he has more experience with the big budget popcorn films.

George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy Reflect on STAR WARS - Video

Here is the fourth part of the video interview series with George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy talking about what makes the appeal of Star Wars universal. Be sure to watch the last one here if you have not already.

Unfortunately, we do not have any further updates on Star Wars: Episode VII. The film is slated for release in theaters in 2015. My guess is it will happen in the month of May.

The First 2012 Movie Trailer Mashup!

0
0

We are closing in on the end of 2012, everyone is putting together their Top 10 lists, and editing together their end of the year retrospective video mashups! The first 2012 video mashup that I've seen so far comes to us from Louis Plamondon. He broke the video down into three parts, and here's an explanation of what they represent...

PRIMA PARTE - The Pruitt-Igoe Myth: Pruitt-Igoe was a large urban housing project that became infamous for symbolizing the shattered dreams of many and was subject to a great documentary this year. By the late 1960's, it had gone from a promise of a better future for thousands of families to a place of desolation, poverty and crime. Not unlike the fate of its inhabitants, many characters in this year's motion pictures have had to endure a vision of the future that demanded their hopes to make room for despair. From the Orwellian districts of The Hunger Games to the corporate conspiracies of Branded and the highly-controlled buildings of The Raid and Dredd 3D, dystopia certainly made its comeback this year.

SECONDA PARTE - Tick Tick Boom: A song that has been attempted in online movie mashups countless times. I always wanted to take a crack at it and celebrate every note of explosive silliness that transpire through this epic hit from The Hives. The inspiration I got from Tick Tick Boom wasn't that it clearly promotes balls-out action all over the walls but that it does it with a sense of self-awareness and light parody. This is precisely the tone that we've found in offerings such as Battleship, The Expendables 2, and (last but not least) Joss Whedon's The Avengers. These movies all know they're silly but rather than convincing us of the contrary, they decide to embrace it and focus on giving us what we crave: great walls of fire erupting everywhere and heroes who can't bother to look at them.

PARTE FINALE - Everything is Connected: My third segment was an attempt to explore what can only described in Hollywood as the merger of mainstream blockbusters and small independent films. Now more than ever, young and emerging filmmakers have the affordable technology in their post-production to make their shoestring-budgeted features feel as visually striking as a major studio production. On the other side of the coin, the big studios are increasing financing on their Oscar hopefuls and make sure to spare no expense in order to make a resourceful production look as indie as possible. I tried to blend the little movies, the big ones, and put my emphasis on those who happen to be one but pretending to be the other.

The video turned out really good, and this is the first of many that will come. Check it out and let us know what one of your favorite movies was so far this year.

Thanks to the creator of the video for sending it out way!

George Lucas Isn't Doing Much for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII

0
0

George Lucas is supposed to be a consultant for Disney and Lucasfilm on the new Star Wars films currently being developed, but according to the man himself he really isn't doing much in that role. When asked about his involvement with Star Wars: Episode VII he had this to say,

[If the filmmakers ask],‘Who’s this guy?’ I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, ‘This is this and this is that.’

Basically I’m not — I don’t really have much to do.

So there you have it, maybe the less he does for the films the better. He's basically handed them over everything they need, and if they want his input they'll ask him for it. He seems pretty much done with the franchise. Lucas was then asked about his thoughts on Steven Spielberg possibly directing a Star Wars movie in which he laughed and said,

He's probably the most brilliant director working in the business today. I’m pretty sure he’d never want to do that!

Which is basically what Spilberg said himself. As of right now we are all just waiting for Lucasfilm to announce the director of Star Wars: Episode VII. In the mean time Lucas is just enjoying his semi-retirement. I'm confident that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has everything under control, and the future of Star Wars is going to be amazingly epic!

Jamie Foxx On Electro's Origin in SPIDER-MAN 2

Last month we heard that Jaimie Foxx might end up playing the villain Electro in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is a role that the actor seems to be pretty excited about. In a recent interview with EW he confirmed that he'll be in the movie and gave a little info on the origin of the character.

Electro is a great character. I met with the director, Mark Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. ... I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he's a ... genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.

Yesterday Webb announced that Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) would be taking on the part of Harry Osborn, which is a solid casting decision. The sequel has got a pretty awesome cast so far that includes Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Shailene Woodley.

The movie will be released on December 2nd, 2013, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Electro is portrayed in it!

I love the art of animation, and it's amazing to see how far things have come and advanced over the years. The industry is changing in terms of technology, but what it all really comes down to is telling good stories. There's been a lot of great animated movies this year, and many of them are up for several awards at the 40th Annual Annie Awards.

Some of the movies nomainated include Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph. Awesome Video Game Action Short - THE HUNGER GAMERS

Here's a great fan made video game action short called The Hunger GameRs. The short is described as a "gamer oriented version of The Hunger Games... Contestants with Classic & Iconic video game weapons are thrown into battle against mindless first-person shooter soldiers." It was directed by Karla Von Guerra of Going Nowhere Productions who sent us the following note,

Possibly the biggest melting pot of video game nostalgia in a live-action format! The battle is on featuring iconic weapons from games such as Portal, Soul Caliber, Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, and much more!

The short is an entry in Machinima's Interactive Film Festival, and it ended up being really entertaining. Check it out!

THE HOBBIT - Six Great Film Clips For You To Watch!

It's finally happened, a bunch of clips from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey have been released by the studio. There are six in total, and as you'd might expect they all have some new footage from the film.

There's a bunch of reviews for the highly anticipated film that have hit the internet, and it seems to be getting a lot of positive buzz! I wouldn't expect anything less from Jackson. Before seeing the movie, I think you must understand that this is not The Lord of the Rings, the story isn't as action packed or epic, but in the end it's still a great story that fans should love.

The last clip embedded, called "Goblin Chase", is a really fun action-packed scene, and it's my favorite from the bunch! Check them out!

"I Wasn't Talking To You" :

"Give him the Contract" :

"Who Did You Tell About Your Quest" :

"There is Nobody Home" :

"Swords Are Named for the Great" :

"Goblin Chase" :

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Samuel L. Jackson's Next Marvel Film Will Be CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

We really didn't get to see Samuel L. Jackson in action in the Marvel films until The Avengers came along. Before that he just had little cameo appearances. I'm not sure if that will be the case with Phase two of Marvel's cinematic plan. What I mean by that is, will he only have cameo roles in the other Marvel films until The Avengers 2? We've previously heard that Jackson won't be involved with Iron Man 3, but he recently revealed to Total Film (via Examiner.com) that the next Marvel movie we'll see him in will be Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, because I’m not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It’s a standalone Iron Man movie.

Now that I think about it, I guess that means he won't be in Thor: The Dark World either because that movie comes out before Captain America as well. You never know what Marvel is planning for his character though.

I loved the first Captain America movie, and I'm incredibly excited to see what the sequel is going to bring us. Chris Evans will be back as Steve Rogers/Captain America, and he will be joined by Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/ Winter Soldier, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill.

Hilariously Brutal Honest Trailer for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

In honor of the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Dark Knight Rises, the Screen Junkies gang has created a very funny honest trailer the epic Batman finale. They claim that Nolan fanboys are going to freak out at this, and they have a really fun time tearing the movie apart.

Batman is back... in the final chapter of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight Trilogy", which most definitely peaked with the Joker. Ugh I miss Heath Ledger.

Regardless of all of the questions and plot holes I still thought the movie was entertaining. It's definitely not the best movie of the year, but it was still fun to watch.

Trailer for Dave Grohl's Awesome Looking Documentary SOUND CITY

"Let's rock. Let's play. Let's record."

Here's a great trailer for an awesome looking documentary called Sound City, which is set to premiere at next year's Sundance Film festival. The documentary was directed by Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. The doc chronicles the history of the world famous Sound City Studios, located in Van Nuys, California.

It "explores the human element of music in an age of technology, and features performances of new music created exclusively for the film." Some of the musical artists that recorded at the studio include Neil Young, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, Guns 'N Roses, Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and Metallica. Grohl had this to say in a statement,

As a first time director, I am humbled to be able to share my passion for songwriting and storytelling with this incredible cast of legendary musicians, as seen through the extraordinary story of America's greatest unsung recording studio, Sound City. Being included in this group of artists is a true honor, and the Sundance Film Festival is the perfect place to premiere a film about craft, integrity, and passion for art. I am over the moon!

Grohl came up with the idea for the film after he bought the studio's 1972 recording console that laid down tracks for several legendary musical artists. I love music, and this is one of those docs that I'm really excited about seeing while up at the festival. Below you'll find the full trailer and a teaser.

YOUNG JUSTICE: LEGACY - New Teaser Trailer, But Still No Release Date

0
0

It was a long time ago when we first heard about this Young Justice: Legacy game that was in production by Warner Bros. and Little Orbit. What we all saw at the time seemed very promising. The game had a little bit of that Marvel: Ultimate Alliance feel to it, and that’s a good thing. But just like during that time many months ago, we still have no word on when the game will be released.

Well now the studio has given us a new teaser trailer. I suppose it’s to keep the attention up for the game somewhat, and probably for the show itself as well. The TV show has gone on another random hiatus with no word when new episodes will be released. This really sucks because they had a great storyline this season, and were able to work in so many characters from throughout the DC Universe.

I even had a chance to play the game and experience what it had to offer back at E3 this past June. It wasn’t fully polished at the time, but the game definitely seemed fun to play. If memory serves me right, this game was supposed to tell the story of what happened between seasons 1 and 2 of the hit TV show. But now with the show on that long hiatus, I wonder if they are re-thinking things story-wise.

Either way, I guess the one thing we can all be happy about is that this trailer does show what platforms it will be released on. From the looks of the logos, this will come out on PC, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. So if anything, this will be a great downloadable arcade title. Now as far as when you can download this is the big question, especially since the trailer only says, “Coming Soon.”

Here's a horrifically cool fan poster for Ridley Scott's Alien created by Deviant Art user TristJones and the colors were done by Luis Antonio Delgado. I've always loved the space suit designs from the original film.
