Joss Whedon Says BATGIRL Will Explore the Damage That Makes Barbara Gordon So Hardcore
In another interview with Joss Whedon, the director talks about what makes Batgirl so interesting to him and the idea behind the story that he's obsessed with telling in his new film. He basically is looking to explore the reasons behind why a young girl like Barbara Gordon would turn to a hardcore life of fighting crime as Batgirl. He wants to show what her damage is. He explains to THR:
"She came up, and I started getting obsessed with how a young woman could get hardcore enough to need to put on the cowl. Like, What's her damage?"
He goes on to say:
"She didn't have her parents killed in an alley. Who is this person, who decides — rather than being forced to by their childhood trauma — decides to pick up this life How intense and driven that person is ... I just couldn't stop thinking about it."
I love the angle that he's looking to take with the character by exploring the motivation of her need to be Batgirl. It'll be interesting to see what Whedon actually does with the story of this character. As a long time fan of Whedon, I can't help but believe that he's going to give us something incredible.
Trailer For Netflix's New True Crime Series THE KEEPERS Explores a Nun's Murder
The true crime genre is very popular these days. Especially with the success of programs like HBO’s doc series The Jinx, Netflix’s Making a Murderer, and O.J.: Made in America, which one an Academy Award this year.
Netflix is hoping that they have another addictive doc series on their hands with The Keepers. We have the first trailer for you to watch today and it looks like a riveting story. The seven-part doc series centers on the unsolved mystery of the murder of a Nun and a conspiracy to cover up the truth behind it for the past fifty years by the corruption within the Catholic church.
I've been fascinated with true crime stories for years, so I like that these kinds of doc series are being made. This stuff just interests me.
Directed by Ryan White (Serena, The Case Against 8), The Keepers will have everyone asking the question “who killed Sister Cathy?” The series was produced by Film 45 and Tripod Media for Netflix. Along with White and Jessica Hargrave, Josh Braun, Ben Cotner, Jason Spingarn-Koff and Lisa Nishimura are executive producers.
Through interviews with dozens of friends, relatives, journalists, government officials and Baltimore citizens determined to uncover the truth, White pieces together a story that goes beyond the death of a beloved Catholic schoolteacher to encompass clergy abuse, repressed memories and government and religious institutions that he says “at best, dropped the ball over the last 45 years – and, at worst, covered it up.”
The Keepers will arrive on Netflix on May 19, 2017.
Adam Warlock Originally Had a Major Role in GUARDIANS VOL. 2 But He'll Be in GUARDIANS VOL. 3!
Early on in the process of developing the story for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn was planning on using Adam Warlock as a major character but he ended up changing it up and taking him out, opting to include him in a future Marvel film like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 instead. So, for all of you who have been waiting for Adam Warlock to enter the MCU, he's coming!
The news comes from director James Gunn himself during an interview with /Film. He explains that Adam Warlock is one of his favorite characters and it sounds like he's just been waiting for the right story to play with him in. Gunn explains:
“I love Adam Warlock. He’s one of my favorite characters. In all truth, I wrote an early treatment where I had Adam Warlock as a part…this is your big scoop, because I don’t think I’ve told anybody this… It was Adam Warlock. He was a big part of the screenplay and I realized it was one character too many. And I adored the character. I adored what we had done with him. I think we did something really creative and unique with Adam Warlock. But it was one character too many and I didn’t want to lose Mantis and Mantis was more organically part of the movie anyway. So I decided to save him for later.”
In a separate interview with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, he told the site that Gunn is "developing Adam Warlock to be included in a future Marvel cosmic universe film." When this was brought up with Gunn, the director made sure that it was known that Warlock will not be in Infinity War saying:
“He’s not in Infinity War. But he will be a part of the future Marvel cosmic universe and a pretty important part of that.”
He doesn't come right out and say that Adam Warlock will be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it's a very safe assumption that that's where the character is going to be introduced, especially since Gunn recently confirmed that he will be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What other films could Gunn be developing the character for?
Feige then went on to tell the site, “If he appears anywhere in the future, it’ll be in Guardians.” So, there ya have it.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Two Fun New Clips and Two New TV Spots
I've really enjoyed the trailers I've seen of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 so far, but trailers can be misleading. Just because something looks awesome with great music playing behind it, we all know that it doesn't mean it will be the best thing in the world. A lot of movies have great trailers that end up being utter crap films.
Today we have two new clips for Guardians Vol. 2 along with two new TV spots to share with you. They show some new footage from the film, and I quite enjoyed them. I won't give too much away because watching them really does more justice than me spouting off what they are about. Check out the two clips below and then I offer a brief commentary after.
Holy crap. Wasn't that funny? I lol'ed like literally. I'm beside myself with joy. Everything just fits together so well. First off, we get another longer look at the Rocket and baby Groot scene which is still funny every time I watch it, and then there's the other scene, which just really solidifies how great a chemistry this cast has together. It makes me wonder what is so special about those batteries Rocket stole that makes the Sovereign Fleet so angry. I love everyone in this scene. I cannot wait until this movie releases. Now check out the two TV spots below:

THE X-FILES Is Officially Coming Back For Another Season with 10-Episodes!
The truth is out there and Agent's Mulder and Scully will continue to search for it in another season of The X-Files! Thar's right, The X-Files will be back for a 10-episode eleventh season! How freakin' cool is that!
Fox has been trying to work out deals with series creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson since the series revival premiered last year. Well, they managed to work everything out because their all coming back to continue the story of these characters.
The X-Files is one of my favorite series of all time so I'm beside myself with excitement right now! FBC president David Madden had this to say in a statement regarding the return of the series:
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators — these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
There's no other information to share regarding the series right now, but I can't wait to see what crazy situations that Moulder and Scully find themselves in next!

The CW Is Developing BLACK LIGHTNING Spinoff Series PAINKILLER
The CW’s DC series Black Lightning is getting a spinoff titled Painkiller. The network is currently developing a backdoor pilot around the Painkiller character.
The spinoff will star Jordan Calloway, who is reprising his role as the character. Calloway plays Khalil Payne, “a man ridden with the guilt of his troubled past from his former life in Freeland City, where, as a super-enhanced killing machine known as Painkiller he was both a member of Tobias Whale’s gang and a weapon of Agent Odell and the shadowy ASA.
“After attempting to bury the darker, devastatingly lethal Painkiller part of his persona, Khalil has distanced himself away from everyone he knows and loves in a new city, Akashic Valley, in order to find peace, but peace never comes easy for men with pasts like his. As his violent, destructive history crashes his idyllic new beginning, Khalil is thrusted back into action with a new mission: bring justice where he once gave out punishment. But to do that, he will first have to deal with and harness his darker side.”
Black Lightning showrunner Salim Akil will write, executive produce, and direct the pilot episode. The planted pilot spinoff will air as the seventh episode of Black Lightning’s fourth season, and it will premiere in February 2021.
Black Lightning is a show that I haven’t really watched. I did watch the first couple of episodes, but it didn’t really grab my attention.
The spinoff is being produced by Berlanti Productions, Akil Productions and DC Entertainment in association with Warner Bros Television.

Dust Developing Modernized TV Series Based on THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU
Gunpowder and Sky’s sci-fi label Dust is in development on a modernized TV series based on the classic novel The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells. The series, titled Moreau, is being written by Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor, Rim Of The World, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
Deadline reports “Moreau focuses on world-renowned scientist Dr. Jessica Moreau, whose pioneering work in genetic engineering catches the eye of a billionaire backer willing to stop at nothing to reach the next step of human evolution.”
Stentz says of the project:
“The double helix wasn’t even a twinkle in Watson & Crick’s eye when H.G. Wells first wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau, but his 1896 novel proved astonishingly prescient about how unlocking the secrets of DNA would open the door to humanity playing God with the natural world in strange and frightening ways. And now, in the shadow of the CRISPR revolution, it felt like the perfect time to revisit Moreau and bring it into our own 21st Century world of transgenic animals, designer babies and other scientific advances Wells never could have dreamed of. I’m delighted to be working with Eric, Geoff & the Gunpowder & Sky team to welcome a whole new generation to the good doctor’s terrifying island.”
Eric Bromberg, SVP, Gunpowder & Sky said of Stentz’ vision:
“Zack took a time-honored classic and brought it into the 21st century. Together, we’re creating a story that’s scarily befitting of today’s world, filled with seemingly limitless, and oftentimes alarming, scientific advancements. Frankenstein and Doudna have nothing on Jessica Moreau.”
Geoffrey James Clark, Executive Producer, Gunpowder & Sky added:
“This series gives us a chance to work with Zack, one of the most prolific writers in the business. We couldn’t have genetically engineered a better writer for this project and can’t wait to take sci-fi fans on a wild ride with Zack driving.”
This sounds like it could be an interesting take on the classic story. Hopefully we will get a good series out of it. Stay tuned for more details.
Tiffany Haddish and Dave Franco Join Murder-Mystery Comedy Series THE AFTERPARTY at Apple
Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, Like a Boss) and Dave Franco (Now You See Me, The Disaster Artist) are among the nine actors that have joined the cast of the Apple TV+ murder-mystery comedy series The Afterparty. Variety reports the following synopsis and character descriptions:
The eight-episode series is set at a high school reunion afterparty. Each episode will feature a retelling of the same night told through a different character’s perspective, each with its own unique visual format and film genre to match the teller’s personality.
Haddish will star as Detective Danner, the eccentric detective assigned to solve the high-profile case.
Richardson will play Aniq, a loveable escape room designer who hopes to reconnect with his high school crush, Zoe.
Chao will star as Zoe, a former artist turned school administrator who is newly separated from her high school sweetheart.
Schwartz stars as Yasper, Aniq’s relentlessly positive best friend who dreams of a career in music.
Barinholtz will play Brett, Zoe’s ex-husband and an arrogant, former high school athlete.
Glazer will star as Chelsea, the former high school valedictorian and class president.
Dave Franco is set to play Xavier, once a dorky high school drama student, now a famous pop star and actor.
Demetriou will play Walt. Ignored throughout high school, Walt attends the reunion with hopes to be remembered.
Early plays Detective Culp, Detective Danner’s overly-eager partner.
This is a crazy cast and set of writers! This is a fun format, and I am excited to see this series come together. I bet it will be hilarious. Are you looking forward to The Afterparty on Apple TV+?

First Look at Robert Rodriguez's Netflix Film WE CAN BE HEROES Starring Pedro Pascal and Christian Slater
Entertainment Weekly has released some photos from director Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming family superhero film, We Can Be Heroes, that is headed to Netflix. The movie is set in the Sharkboy universe, and stars Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, and Boyd Holbrook as members of a superhero team called the Heroics, as well as Priyanka Chopra-Jonas as Director of the Heroics.
Rodriguez told EW that “the movie begins with the group kidnapped and their kids left to try to save them (and the world). Young Missy (YaYa Gosselin), who has not yet discovered her powers, gets to know her fellow child superheroes: One can predict the future; another, named Facemaker, has the ability to, well, change his face. [For] a kid, that’s an amazing power. What if you could become anyone else?”
This Avengers-like kid movie sounds like it will be something my kids will be into. I don’t know how much I will enjoy it, but I suppose I’m going to find out. The cast is pretty promising, so hopefully it turns out to be fun. Check out the photos and check back for a release date soon.

Mel Gibson and Scott Eastwood Team Up For The Action-Thriller DANGEROUS
Scott Eastwood and Mel Gibson are teaming up for a new action-thriller film project titled Dangerous, and joining them for the ride are Tyrese Gibson, Famke Janssen and Kevin Durand.
Eastwood will be taking on the role of a reformed sociopath who, “after the death of his brother, heads to a remote island which soon falls under the siege of a deadly gang of mercenaries. Forced to fend for himself, he discovers their role in his brother’s demise and sets off on a relentless quest for vengeance.” Gibson will play a key supporting role in the movie.
Dangerous will be helmed by David Hackl (Saw V) and produced by Kevin DeWalt and Ben DeWalt for Minds Eye Entertainment and by Doug Falconer for Falconer Pictures, with Michael Benaroya executive producing for his Benaroya Pictures and Todd Shepherd executive producing for Miscellaneous Entertainment.
We see movies like this getting made all the time these days, they're a dime a dozen. But I do like the cast that has been brought together for it, and for that reason, I’m willing to give it a chance in hopes that it’ll be good.
The film is scheduled to shoot later this month in Canada.

Zack Snyder Would Have Cast Carla Gugino as Catwoman
During a recent Livestream event with director Zack Snyder, DC fans suggested that Carla Gugino, who Snyder has worked with in the past, would have made the perfect Selina Kyle/Catwoman opposite Ben Affleck’s Batman. Snyder agreed and said that he would have cast her and even provided a little backstory as to how she could have fit into the story of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice if he would have made the character a part of his DC universe.
"Probably I would say Carla's Catwoman [is perfect]. You would have to say, there's a flashback to ten years ago, where [Batman and Catwoman] were a thing. And then he had to arrest her, I don't know what happened, or he had to let her go, and it tweaked him. And now, who knows what she's doing now, she's running some sort of international antiquities or something, and he needs to retire, and they find each other. Yeah, I do think Carla is --- yeah, she is good."
Gugino did have a role in the franchise as she provided the voice of the Kryptonian scout ship's computer. But I do love the idea of her playing Catwoman in Snyder’s DC cinematic universe. The previous Snyder films that Gugino appeared in include Sucker Punch and Watchmen.
What do you think about Carla Gugino in the role of Catwoman?

New Unsettling Poster Art For AMERICAN HORROR STORY Season 10
American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has shared another piece of unsettling poster art for the upcoming 10th season of the horror anthology series.
This new poster features a woman’s shattered face with a black widow crawling around in the web-filled space of her head. It’s definitely the kind of stylistic visuals that we’ve come to expect from the franchise. First a mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth, and now this. What does it mean!?
There’s no caption given, but Murphy previously geotagged the small US coastal town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, which is most likely where the story for the upcoming season will be set.
We don’t really know any plot details from Season 10, but Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is set to appear in the new season, alongside series regulars Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Lily Rabe, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Angelica Ross, and Finn Wittrock.

Marvel Studios Will Reportedly Start Production on MOON KNIGHT in Early 2021
According to Discussing Film, Marvel Studios is planning to start production on Disney+’s highly-anticipated MCU series, Moon Knight, in early 2021 in Budapest.
Marvel has been making some big leaps forward with the project recently with the casting of Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight and the hiring of Egyptian director Mohamed Diab (Clash) to helm the series.
The story for the series focuses on Marc Spector a.k.a. Moon Knight. The character has multiple different alter egos including millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley. These alter egos may or may not be separate, alternate personalities, and the same may be true of Khonshu, the Egyptian deity who is either guiding Spector through his costumed adventures or a figment of Spector’s imagination. Most recently, the character was a consultant who dresses in all-white and goes by the name Mr. Knight.
Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin and appeared in the August 1975 issue Werewolf by Night #32. Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy) and Beau DeMayo (The Originals and The Witcher) writing the series. Gregory Middleton (Final Girl, Watchmen, Game of Thrones) and Stefania Cella (Morbius) signing on as the series’ cinematographer and production designer, respectively.
The Moon Knight series is also rumored to tie into Marvel’s Blade movie, and Werewolf by Night, Stained Glass Scarlet, and Dracula could be involved with the story as well.
MONSTER HUNTER Director Paul W.S. Anderson Is Already Writing a Sequel
I’m not really the biggest fan of director Paul W.S. Anderson. While he has made some cool films like Mortal Kombat and the first Resident Evil movie, most of his films are pretty mediocre. Regardless of that, I am looking forward to seeing his upcoming adaptation of the hit video game Monster Hunter. That movie looks like it’s going to provide some fun and exciting entertainment.
During a recent interview with Total Film, Anderson says that he’s “been working on Monster Hunter for 11 years.” When talking about the film, Anderson seems confident that audiences are going to like what it has to offer.
He claims the creatures are “built to a greater level of detail than anything in Jurassic World. There’s hundreds of monsters [in the game]. I can only use five or six of them in the movie. So it’s a big, fun world that I think we’ve only just started to scratch the surface of."
Milla Jovovich, who stars in the film goes on to add that Anderson is "already writing" a sequel that is based in the film’s universe. When asked about a sequel, she said:
"Definitely, we would love to make another one. Hopefully people are going to love it because I know Paul would love to make a sequel. I mean, he’s already writing something..."
Well, let’s see how this first movie turns out. I hope it’s good! It seems like a fun world for a filmmaker to play in.
The film’s story follows Jovovich as Artemis and a small squad of soldiers who find themselves being transported to another realm that is inhabited by giant creatures and they’ve got to fight them! They team up with a warrior in this realm named Hunter, who is played by Tony Jaa. Together they engage in battle against the monsters to close a portal to prevent the monsters from going through and invading earth.
Here’s the synopsis:
Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.
The movie also stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Drive), T.I. Harris (Ant-Man and The Wasp), Diego Boneta (Luis Miguel, Rock of Ages), Meagan Good (Code Black), and Josh Helman (X-Men: Days of Future Past).
Monster Hunter is set to be released in theaters in December 2020.
