Cable Creator Rob Liefeld Sketches Josh Brolin as the Character

The creator of Deadpool and Cable, Rob Liefeld, has shared a sketch he whipped up of Josh Brolin as Cable. A lot of fans think that Brolin playing Cable is inspired casting and now we get a look at how Liefeld envisions him in the role in Deadpool 2. I have no idea if this is the look that director David Leitch and the creative team will be going for, but I imagine all of the trademark looks of the character will be there. What do you think of Liefeld's sketch?

STAR WARS REBELS Producer Dave Filoni is Interested in Directing a Live Action STAR WARS Film

Hardcore Star Wars fans might recognize Dave Filoni as a pretty solid figure in the Star Wars universe. He is the director and producer of the Clone Wars animated series and the executive producer for Star Wars Rebels, which is coming to an end with its fourth season. Recently in an interview with Coming Soon, Filoni was asked if he would be interested in directing a live-action film and he had this to say:

"I'd be crazy to say I'm not interested in that. I don't want to say that would be the ultimate, because I really enjoy the stories I'm telling now and I would never undercut them by saying they're something less. I think the craft we do and the work we do in these series is tremendous and the artists we have working on them are amazing. but I can't help but be curious about this live-action world and what I see there and the tremendous opportunities that are around me. It is very interesting to me, I respect the craft that it is, it's a different style. I've been observing and learning a lot about it to see how I would do and if it fits with my creative vision for things or would I encumber the process. I don't do things like that unless I feel like I do have a real ownership and mastery of it, I just think it's disrespectful to the crew that you would work with, who would obviously been tremendous professionals and I wouldn't want to hinder them in any way. you know, we'll see. In some circles you find you're a a master and in some circles you're still a Padawan, we should always be learning, all of us. Always be learning."

I think this is great advice and he obviously has put a lot of thought into it. I especially respect the fact that he puts a strong emphasis on the importance of both crafts. TV and film both have very different strengths and weaknesses and he obviously recognizes that just because you can do one, doesn't make it an easy transfer to the other. I think if he does ever end up directing a live action Star Wars film, it will be under good tutelage and there's no doubt he will put a lot of effort into it. He seems to really care about the projects he works on, which is something I respect immensely.

Do you think Filoni should be considered as a director to take on a Star Wars film?

Joss Whedon Called Marvel Before Taking The BATGIRL Directing Gig at Warner Bros.

Fans exploded with excitement when they heard that Joss Whedon would be writing and directing a Batgirl movie for Warner Bros. We all know the guy is going to make a kick ass Batgirl film!

As you know, Whedon has a strong relationship with Marvel as he directed the first two Avengers films and he worked with them in developing several films in their pipeline over the years. As it turns out, he made sure to call up Marvel and talk to them while he was in talks with WB for the Batgirl gig. When asked about what he thought about Whedon directing Batgirl, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said:

“He called a couple months ago, which he didn’t have to do and was super cool of him and super nice of him. And we couldn’t be more supportive. We want to see a Joss Whedon Batgirl film be awesome.”

As you may have heard, Whedon became frustrated with Marvel Studios during the production of Avengers: Age of Ultron over certain creative decisions, but he has said time and time again that he would work with Marvel again if the right project presented itself, like a Black Widow solo movie.

There's obviously no bad blood between Whedon and Marvel Studios and it would be cool to see them work together again one day. But that doesn't really matter right now because Whedon is directing Batgirl and I can't wait to see what he does with it!

New Details on Martin Starr's Teacher Character in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

A year after his casting, we finally know who Martin Starr will play in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Starr revealed his role in the upcoming film in an interview with The Wrap and tells us he is going to be playing a teacher...

“I’m the academic decathlon coach and one of the teachers at the school so I have a bit of a thing in it…It’s capitalizing on popularity and a story that’s very rich and dense, so there’s a lot left to tell. And this isn’t a familiar take on it — this is a unique kind of take of a younger Spider-Man trying to figure out life again…The story has a lot of action and fun in it, but it’s also a sweet, coming-of-age story of a kid.”

Well, I'm not at all surprised by that revelation. Martin Starr's recent stints in acting seem to label him as a more diverse Ben Stein! I mean that as a compliment, as Starr's monotone geeky persona has worked on so many levels throughout the years. I'm excited to see him in Spider-Man: Homecoming what about you?

Marvel Studios is Coming to Comic-Con 2017 and They'll Be Showing Off Lots of Goodies!

A lot of fans have been wondering if Marvel would be showing up to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this year. There have been a couple of years where they haven't showed up, and with Disney's D23 Expo happening later this year, questions have been raised on whether or not they would just hold out for that event.

Don't worry! According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege, they will be in full force at Comic-Con this year! I have no doubt that they'll be showing off all kinds of awesome stuff to the fans!

There's no word on what exactly they are planning, but it's not hard to speculate what it will entail. By the time Comic-Con hits in late July, both Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming will have already been released in theaters. That leaves us with films such as Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man And The Wasp, and Captain Marvel, all of which are in various stages of production.

I'm sure they'll show off some cool footage from the films that have been shooting and maybe a concept art reel for films that haven't started filming yet like Ant-Man And The Wasp and Captain Marvel

I'm just excited that we'll be treated to another epic Marvel panel this year, and like always, I'm sure they'll deliver a hell of a show!

Impressive First Trailer for the Superman Inspired Series KRYPTON

The SyFy Channel has released the first trailer for their upcoming Superman-inspired series Krypton and I'm kinda loving what I see! The story for the series is set 200 before the events of Man of Steel and screenwriter David Goyer has said that it is being treated like it's a historical piece.

Krypton will center around Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El, who is played by Cameron Cuffe. It takes place in a time when the House of El was shamed and ostracized and Seg-El is looking to bring hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known."

The series also stars Georgina Campbell (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) as Lyta Zod, who is part of Krypton’s military caste and daughter of General Alura Zod. Seg-El and Lyta Zod are in the midst of a secret, forbidden relationship.

I'm excited to check this out! Watch the trailer and let us know if you'll be tuning in when it's released later this year.

I don't know about you guys, but season 2 of Stranger Things is one of my most anticipated television events of 2017. I'm trying my best not to set my expectations too high, but I loved the first season so much that it's becoming increasingly tough not to place unrealistic expectations on the Duffer Brothers to recapture the magic they created the first time around. Here's hoping they can pull it off again.

In the meantime, check out this awesome print from artist Vance Kelly thanks to our friends at Hero Complex Gallery. This is a limited edition of 411, so you'll have to hurry if you want to purchase one. Buy it here if you're interested.

Josh Brolin Shares A Behind The Scenes Look At Cable In DEADPOOL 2

Josh Brolin gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the process behind creating Cable for Deadpool 2, and I think this picture is a great example of how much actors go through when making a superhero film...

That's a CGI mold that will not be on Brolin's head the entire process of filming, but rather to be used as a model to add the features of Cable's scar naturally to Brolin's face. I'm kind of surprised there isn't an easier way to do this yet, but it's cool to see all the same! Thanks CBM for the heads up!

THOR: RAGNAROK Director Taika Watiti is Playing Korg in the Film!

Dear Marvel, thank you for making this year something to look forward to. First you showed me a wonderful trailer of Thor: Ragnarok, which made me feel like comic book movies are finally starting to be like comic books, and now, thanks to /Film, I find out that the director of Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Watiti, who is an actor as well, is set to play Korg in the Movie!

So first off, if you don't know Taika Watiti, check out What We Do In the Shadows. It's a fantastic film that really shows off Taika's brilliance in comedy and timing. He plays just such a happy and friendly vampire.

Now, some information about Korg for those of you who don't really know who he is. Korg played a part in the Marvel Comics' Planet Hulk, which as you know was a huge influence in developing the story for Thor: Ragnarok. He is a Kronan, which is a rock looking dude who becomes a friend to Thor in the story. Korg is said to be a warm-up champion in the Grandmaster's Contest of Champions. He's about 8 feet tall, made of grey rocks, and has war paint markings and a gladiator costume.

I love Taika and his sense of humor and am so excited to see this cross over into the Marvel world.

Thor: Ragnarok opens on November 3, 2017.

ANT-MAN AN THE WASP Costume Designs and Other Concept Art Details Revealed

I feel like as Marvel is going through its third phase, it's deciding to really have fun with the films. It's like the original Star Wars trilogy, the first phase set the tone and originated characters, the second phase got dark, and the third phase sold toys. I mean, had fun! Yeah, now some new details have been revealed on the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp film, and it's kind of got me excited!

During a recent tour of its facilities during a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 press event, many journalists got some information on the new films that are currently in development. Peyton Reed, the director of the first Ant-Man film and the director of the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp showed off some of the concept art for the new film.

In the images, it showed that there would be vehicles that could change sizes with the people in them. One specific piece of art showed Luis' van dodging giant rain drops as it chases another car. Already, that sounds like an awesomely exciting adventure scene that I'd love to watch. In another area, three separate Wasp costumes were shown. One was a classic Hope Van Dyne design while the others were more similar to the Ant-Man's design. Of the three one was blue, gold and white, and one was similar to the Ant-Man costume being black, red and silver.

Other artwork showed a dog eating a shrunken car, Ant-Man using a shaken bottle of Coca-Cola turned giant, and Ant-Man and Wasp running from a huge snake-like insect. This gives me hope that perhaps Annihilus could be a major antagonist in the series. Insect monsters are his deal. All in all it just sounds like a fun adventure movie exploring a shrunken world. It's a great step forward for Ant-Man that is different enough from the first, but keeps with the feel.

Oh yeah, and as you'd expect, Scott Lang will go into Giant-Man mode again!

Ant-Man and The Wasp will be in theaters on July 6, 2018

Ian McShane Says HBO Has Been Handed A Two Hour DEADWOOD Film Script

If you've been disappointed that you haven't heard anything since HBO announced plans for a Deadwood revival back in 2016, Ian McShane has an update for you. McShane revealed to TVLine in an interview that a two hour script for a film has been passed along to HBO and that it's now on the network as to whether or not they will move forward with greenlighting the film:

“If they don’t deliver [a finished product], blame them.”

Is there enough want for more Deadwood? I wouldn't mind seeing a two hour film, but it's been so long since the show ended I'm not sure I would be heartbroken if it didn't happen, what about you?

Michael Giacchino had a nearly impossible task when he signed on to compose the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story after Alexandre Desplat left the movie. But against all odds, Giacchino was able to pull it together and create something that sounded distinct, yet incorporated shout-outs to John Williams' classic themes throughout. This video (via io9) does a great job of laying everything out for us:

James Gunn Thought Marvel Would Balk at the Idea of Ego the Living Planet Being Star-Lord's Dad

$

Plenty of people were coming up with theory after theory of who Star Lord's father would end up being after Guardians of the Galaxy was released. When it was finally announced that Star Lord's dad was Ego the Living Planet, many people, myself included didn't believe it. It was just too crazy. Especially if you've seen Ego in any of the Comics. He's a Planet with a Goatee. No joke! That's who Ego is, and even Gunn knew how crazy of an Idea it was. It was so crazy that he didn't tell anyone this secret until the first movie was a hit. He revealed in an interview with Cinemablend:

"I knew who Ego was as a character, I knew what he was able to do, but I didn't initially know I was going to use Ego The Living Planet as that character - if that makes sense. But it was pretty early that I knew it was Ego, but I didn't share that with Kevin [Feige] until after Guardians 1 made so much money. And that's when I came in and said the dad is going to be a living planet! It was an outlandish idea. I thought that they would balk at the idea of making Ego The Living Planet his parent."

Wow! So from the beginning, he knew who he wanted to be Star Lord's father, and he wanted it to be a planet. I respect what Gunn has been doing with this franchise and the way he's been building this cosmic universe. He knew what he wanted to do from the beginning and didn't even expect to ever introduce Ego as Peter's father, but once Disney had enough faith in him, it gave him a lot more power to make decisions.

Still, to have such a drastic choice as this is pretty incredible. It makes me think that maybe Marvel is easing up on the control they once had over the characters and trusting their directors a bit more. There is still a part of me that wishes Edgar Wright had directed Ant-Man the way he wanted to, but this at least gives me hope that Marvel Studios is open to director input more than ever right now.

Marvel Announces The Characters That Will Be in Their NEW WARRIORS TV Series

marvel-announces-the-characters-that-will-be-in-their-new-warriors-tv-series1

As most of you already know, Marvel is currently developing a New Warriors TV series in which Squirrel Girl will play a major role. Today we have some new details to share with you regarding the show and it involves the Marvel characters that will be involved. But before we get to that, here's the synopsis:

Marvel’s New Warriors is about six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of the Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world … even if the world isn’t ready. Not quite super, not yet heroes, Marvel’s New Warriors is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once – except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

Marvel released the art that you see above featuring all of the main characters that will be in the new series and it features the characters Zack Smith (Microbe), Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher), Craig Hollis (Mister Immortal), Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl), Deborah Fields (Debrii) and Robbie Baldwin (Speedball). They also released a description of each one of these characters that you can read below.

Doreen Green (Squirrel Girl)
Superpower: “The powers of a squirrel, the powers of a girl” (is acrobatic, strong, can fight, can talk to squirrels)
Doreen is a totally empowered fangirl. She is a natural leader—confident and tough, but not innocent. Doreen is bouncy and energetic and her greatest quality is her optimism… She has faith in others and inspires people to believe in themselves. She also takes her pet squirrel, Tippy Toe, everywhere.
Craig Hollis (Mister Immortal)
Superpower: Cannot die. Ever. Maybe. So he says.
The team troublemaker and lothario… Craig is kind of like “The Most Interesting Man Alive,” except he’s more cocky than confident and at times, charmingly grumpy. Although Craig’s superpower seems amazing, he hasn’t made use of it at all—he’s lazy and figures if he has all the time in the world to learn how to fight, what’s the rush?
Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher)
Superpower: None
Dwayne is a local celebrity “hero” with his very own YouTube channel. Brilliant, strong, noble, and maybe a bit full of himself, Dwayne is a shameless self-promoter and entrepreneur. But he also deeply believes in justice — at least his version of it. Dwayne hides the fact that he comes from a really rich family because he’s afraid he’ll lose his street cred.
Robbie Baldwin (Speedball)
Superpower: Can launch kinetic balls of energy
Robbie grew up watching Quinjets take off from Avengers Tower and loves the idea of being a hero. He’s an impulsive and immature people-pleaser with a misplaced sense of confidence. Although you would think throwing kinetic balls of energy would be awesome and effective – his are completely out of control.
Zack Smith (Microbe)
Superpower: Can talk to germs
Zack is a shy hypochondriac whose ability nearly makes him a telepath — the germs tell him where you’ve been, what you ate and who you hung out with. It’s impossible to keep secrets around him. He’s a big sweet guy the team takes under their wing, and they help him find and grow his own confidence.
Deborah Fields (Debrii)
Superpower: Low level telekinetic; trickster
Deborah is proud, funny and quick witted. Confidently out as a lesbian, Deborah has experienced deep loss in her personal life as a direct result of super “heroics.” She can take care of herself, or at least says she can. She’s the one who calls people on their BS and has no fear of putting her opinions out there.

I hope this turns out to be a fun series. It definitely has potential. We'll just have to wait and see. Each episode in the comedy series will be 30-minutes long and it will debut in 2018.

CAPTAIN MARVEL Will Be Directed by Indie Filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck

At long last, we know who is officially directing Captain Marvel! The studio has hired Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to bring Captain Marvel's story to the big screen. They are a directing team that has worked on a couple indie film projects that include Ryan Gosling’s Half Nelson and Ryan ReynoldsMississippi Grind, both of which were great character driven films.

I know they aren't big popular mainstream directors, but after directing a movie like Captain Marvel... they will be. I don't know if you're familiar with their work, but I think they will do a great job developing this character in the MCU.

Marvel met with a ton of directors for the gig, and in the end, they chose a directing team that was never mentioned prior to this announcement. I love a good surprise.

The movie is being written by Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy scribe Nicole Perlman. All we know about the film at this point in that it will follow Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), "an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight."

Captain Marvel is set to be released in 2019.
