Badass First Poster for STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS!

$

Paramount Pictures has released the first teaser poster for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, and I think it turned out pretty awesome! It looks like it features Benedict Cumberbatch‘s villainous character overlooking some mass destruction that he most likely caused. The first trailer for the film is set to premiere later this month on December 14th, and I can't wait to get our first real look at this highly anticipated sequel!

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

The movie also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, ZoeSaldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Peter Weller and Alice Eve. It's set to launch on May 17th, 2013. Stay tuned for the trailer, we'll get it up on the site as soon as it hits!

The mid-season finale of the third season of The Walking Dead was pretty incredible! Carl has become quite the little badass hasn't he? I can't wait to see what happens next! That was one hell of a cliffhanger! Unfortunately, we all have to wait until February before we get to see the next episode, which is called "The Suicide King." It's looks like we've got a lot of great stuff to look forward to!

AMC has released a promo trailer, sneak peeks, and behind the scenes featurettes for you to check out. I doubt this is enough to tide you over until February, but it will have to do.

HBO has released a great behind the scenes featurette for the third season of their fantasy series Game of Thrones which is currently in production. The video features interviews with the cast and crew talking about the upcoming season, along with some of our footage from the show including our first look at some new characters. I've also included some screenshots from the video featuring some of the characters. Season 3 is set to premiere on March 31st, 2013.

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lust and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all will play the 'Game of Thrones.'

Schwarzenegger's THE LEGEND OF CONAN - More Awesome Details!

$

0

A month ago we learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be back to reprise his role as Conan in The Legend of Conan. We know that the film will pick up where the 1982 version of the movie left off, with Arnold sitting on the throne as a seasoned warrior. Producer and screenwriter Chris Morgan said at the time,

This is the take of the film we will make. It’s that Nordic Viking mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life. He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle.

In a recent interview with LA Times Morgan discussed the film further saying that the movie is "not a reboot, not a remake. Just an update. Where has the character been all this time? A catch-up with Conan." This is something I would love to see! The movie dives deep into Conan’s rule over his kingdom, he hasn't really seen action in awhile. Morgan explains,

He’s not going out and fighting battles, but he ends up getting drawn into something, and he has to access the barbarian he was in his youth. I love that Conan has been many things in his life, notably a pirate, a major tactician and a commander of men. In this movie, we’re going to tap into some of those things – things you haven’t seen on screen yet.

If you expected to see a ripped Olympian style Arnold back in action, don't expect that, because it's not in the story. They are taking advantage of the actor's aged physic.

I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who’s not necessarily lost a step, but there’s some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story.

Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story.

This could be an incredibly badass movie, and I can't wait to see how it comes together. Morgan is a huge fan of the character and says that,

No matter what, I’ll be there every step of the way. Whether it’s penning this quickly or selecting the writer, it’s me guiding the process or being a real honest-to-god producer. I’m excited either way. I’m really, really stoked.

I think this concept for this legendary character is freakin' awesome, and I trust that Morgan will bring us one hell of an epic Conan film that fans are going to love! I've always thought it would be amazing to see an aged Conan movie, just like I would like to see an aged Batman in a Dark Knight Returns movie.

Kevin Tancharoen's web-series Mortal Kombat: Legacy turned out pretty awesome. It even ended up landing him the directing gig for the feature film. Before he gets to that though he co-wrote and directed a sequel to the web-series that a lot of Mortal Kombat fans loved. Warner Bros. Digital Distribution announced that Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 will be released in Q2 2013 on Machinima. I really enjoyed the first web-series, and I'm excited for what the sequel has to offer! Check out the official press release:

A second season of the hit live-action web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy is currently in production in Los Angeles and will debut worldwide in Q2 2013 exclusively on Machinima. This new season will uncover the rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun!

"Fans are in for a real treat with the second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy," said Tancharoen. "With added visual effects and storylines that dive deeper into our warriors as they make their way to the tournament, we’re taking this series to a whole new level. I'm really looking forward to showing fans the first clip during the Streamy Awards on February 17."

Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 features stars from television and film - many of whom have real-world martial arts experience. The cast includes Harry Shum, Jr. ("Glee") as the warlord adviser Kuai Liang, Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) as martial arts film actor Johnny Cage, Brian Tee (The Wolverine) as Shaolin Monk Liu Kang, Mark Dacascos (Cradle 2 the Grave) as Kung Lao - a close friend of Liu Kang, Ian Anthony Dale (“Hawaii Five-O”) returns as the resurrected ninja Scorpion, and reprising his role he made famous in the Mortal Kombat theatrical release - Cary Tagawa as the powerful, arrogant sorcerer Shang Tsung.

“Machinima and our audience have been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in this series, and I’m thrilled to announce that 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2' will return to its original home on Machinima,” said Allen DeBevoise, Chairman, Co-Founder, and CEO of Machinima. “We have become a destination for episodic narrative series thanks in part to the first season of 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy,' and we look forward to breaking new ground with this much anticipated new season.”

The series is written by Josh Baizer, Marshall Johnson and Kevin Tancharoen. Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 is produced by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and distributed by Machinima, Inc.

First Look At Jeff Bridges As a Sorcerer in THE SEVENTH SON

$

Here's our first look at Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore in the fantasy adventure film The Seventh Son. The movie was previously titled The Last Apprentice, which is based on the The Wardstone Chronicles book series by Joseph Delaney.

Bridges plays Master John Gregory, known as a "Spook" who imprisons an evil witch named Mother Malkin (Moore) uses some kind of crazy blood magic. I've seen Bridges play a lot of different characters over the years, and wear a lot of crazy outfits. But I don't recall ever seeing him dressed up as a medieval exorcist. That being said... he looks awesomely badass! Here's what the actor had to say about his character in an interview with USA Today,

He's an interesting cat. He's appreciated for keeping evil away, but he's also a frightening figure to the townspeople. When you mess around with darkness, some of that gets in you, too.

The movie was directed by Sergei Bodrov, and the story is set during the 1700s and follows Tom Ward, a young boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700's who must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts. Trouble begins when he's tricked into releasing the most evil witch in the world.

Gregory's getting into the twilight of his years and the apprentices he keeps trying to recruit don't last very long, which becomes a serious problem for him when Malkin escapes and rounds up all of her followers for one momentous attack.

A Spook's apprentice can only be the seventh son of a seventh son, and after Gregory's last one is killed, he finds new backup in Tom Ward (Ben Barnes of the recent Chronicles of Narnia films) to help him fend off their supernatural enemies.

Here’s the synopsis for the book the film will be based off of, The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch:

Twelve-year-old Thomas Ward, as the seventh son of a seventh son, has no inheritance and is bored with farm work, and even though his new job will mean the superstitious villagers will forever shun him, he is eager to go off to adventure with the tall, hooded man he calls the Spook. His mother, a magical person herself, approves, and the Spook’s teaching is strict but kind. But when Tom has only learned enough to be able to control their house-boggart, he is tricked by Alice, the young daughter of a witch family, into inadvertently releasing and then killing Mother Malkin, a witch the Spook has imprisoned in a pit. This is no polite wicca-type witch, but a snuffling, slime-trailing, cannibalistic creature reminiscent of Tolkien’s nasgils. The story of Tom’s escape from the reincarnated witch’s hideous revenge is full of horrible details, as Alice helps, and then once again betrays him. This well-crafted novel marks an auspicious start for an exciting and fast series for young teens.

Awesome New MAN OF STEEL Poster!

$

Warner Bros. has released a great new poster for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel! It features Henry Cavill as Superman in handcuffs being escorted by some military personal. Hot damn! I can't wait to see this movie!

The movie also stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and more. The new trailer will be released with The Hobbit on December 14th, so stay tuned for that!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

The movie hits theaters in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on June 14th 2013!

Dreamworks animator David Stodolny used some of his free time over the last few months to create this funny yet twisted Hunger Games animated parody called Games of Hunger. Dane DeHaan Cast As Harry Osborn in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2

The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb has officially announced that Chronicle star Dane Dehaan is officially set to play Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This is the guy I was hoping would get the part, so it's awesome to see that he landed it! This character was previously played by James Franco in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man films. Here's the tweet that was sent out by Webb:

It was previously reported that this time around they were looking for actors that fit a dark and edgy description, and DeHaan easily fits that. I thought he was great in Chronicle, and I'm sure he'll be awesome in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He'll be able to pull off a likeable villain. It will be fun seeing him act alongside Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the film. I hate when good guys go bad, but as you know that's exactly what's going to happen with Harry Osborn.

The film will also feature Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, and Jamie Foxx as the villain Electro. The movie is set for release on May 2nd, 2014.

What do you think about DeHaan being cast as Harry Osborn in the movie?

Niko's Got a Bit of a Jecking Problem In This Fun GTA IV Art

GTA IV star Niko wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but even if you didn't love him you'll probably dig this awesome series of sketches done by Patrick Brown. The art depicts NiKo jacking (or as he calls it, Jecking) rides (be it Horse or Light Cycle) from a variety of franchises, including Avatar, Red Dead Redemption, Halo, Tron, & more. My faves are shown above and below, but he has several more on his Deviant Art page. I'm fond of his art style and I love how fun and original these are. There are so many others I would like to see. How about Niko trying to steal a Mako (hey look it rhymes!), or trying to hot wire a CLAW tank from Black Ops II? Just some ideas to keep the party going.

Having seen some of his fantastic colored pieces, here's hoping these get the same treatment someday. Until then we'll just have to enjoy them in black & white, but Patrick has a great deal of fully colored game related art in his gallery (which you can check out here), so make sure to give those a look.

Okay, one last pitch. Niko jacking those stupid plates from Heavy Rain.

You're welcome.

Yahoo! Is Already Calling MAN OF STEEL A Disappointment

$
0
0

This is one of the most ridiculous things I've read online in a long time. For some crazy reason Yahoo! has Zack Snyder's Man of Steel listed as being one of the most most disappointing movies of 2012, and it isn't even getting released until 2013! Oh, and in case you were wondering, they haven't even seen the movie yet! It doesn't come out for about another seven months!

The article was written by a guy named Jonathan Crow, and it includes a breakdown and analysis of many 2012 film flops including John CarterBattleshipPrometheusTotal Recall, Dark Shadows and Red Dawn. And then just for the hell of it he throws in Man of Steel. What the hell is that all about? Makes me wonder if the guy even saw any of the movies on this list. Here's what he said about the film...

For the upcoming reboot, Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder took off Superman's red briefs. That's right, the 300 director changed the iconic uniform of the Last Son of Krypton, and he now looks as if he should be on a luge instead of fighting crime. What happened to tradition?

The guy obviously hasn't picked up a Superman comic in the last year either, because the iconic superhero hasn't worn those red briefs for about a year now.  I love how he just judges the whole film based on a costume, a costume that I, and several other Superman fans think is pretty cool. Sure there's also several other fans that don't like the suit, but it has yet to be seen if the movie is going to end up being a disappointment. I'm hoping the movie turns out to be the spectacular Superman film we all want it to be! With Christopher Nolan's brains and Zack Snyder's visual style behind the movie I think it's going to end up being a great film. It definitely has more going for it than against it.

I'm Sensing An Odd Trend On THE WALKING DEAD

$
0
0

Hey if you haven't watched Season 3 yet and care about spoilers then you should avoid reading this.

So is there a quota that the writers of The Walking Dead have to adhere to or something? At first I thought it was a coincidence, but after last night's mid-season finale, I'm thoroughly convinced that there can only be one African American male in the cast at one time. Let's go back to the death of T-Dog where in the same episode we meet Oscar, Big Tiny, and Andrew. At this point I'm like "Cool. Nice to see they are diversifying up a bit," and then BOOM! Big Tiny gets cut down by Tomas and Rick leaves Andrew for dead all in the course of an episode.

So the count stays at one again until Andrew comes out of nowhere and tries to exact vengeance. This time he is killed by Oscar, who shows his allegiance to the group in killing his former comrade (whatever other conclusions you might want to draw from that feel free and for a couple of episodes the count remains at 1.)

Now do I want to believe that in some place the writers of the show sat down and said "this is how much minority representation we can have in the show to fit our audience?" of course not. However, when we get introduced to Tyreese the very same episode that Oscar gets killed I can't help but be just a little bit skeptical.

Now I am not sure exactly where the survivors are geographically in the show at this point, but it's a well known fact that Atlanta is in the top 5 of African American populations in the United States with the current percentage at 54%. Georgia itself totals out at about 31%, which is significantly lower, but still ranked 3rd in the nation behind New York and...Florida (just below Georgia non-Americans). The point I'm making? Non accurate statistics of survivor levels...or racist zombies.

What is the danger with having more African American men on the show?! Is it purely coincidence or is this an intentional move by the writers to keep a "status quo" and not have zero representation but ensure it's limited? These are all questions I ask, and ones I doubt Chris Hardwick will pose.

Guillermo del Toro's Next Horror Film Will Be CRIMSON PEAK

$
0
0

Guillermo del Toro has attached himself to a new film project called Crimson Peak. Apparently it will be the next movie he directs as soon has he's done with his incredible looking film, Pacific Rim. The movie is an original ghost story that he wrote with collaborator Matthew Robbins. He'll be developing it alongside Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros who have been working with him on Pacific Rim

Del Toro has said that the film is “a very set-oriented, classical but at the same time modern take on the ghost story. It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules.”

I've always enjoyed Del Toro's filmmaking style and I couldn't be more excited about him making another ghost story! According to Deadline he has a very particular vision for the film, and Legendary will give him what he needs to bring it to honor what he calls the “grand dames” of the haunted house genre.

To me that is Robert Wise’s The Haunting, which was a big movie, beautifully directed, with the house built magnificently. And the other grand daddy is Jack Clayton’s The Innocents. I’ve always tried to make big-sized horror movies like the ones I grew up watching. Films like The Omen, The Exorcist and The Shining, the latter of which is another Mount Everest of the haunted house movie. I loved the way that Kubrick had such control over the big sets he used, and how much big production value there was. I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback.

Damn this sounds awesome! He goes on to talk about how the project came about,

It was the first one I wrote after Pan’s Labyrinth, and I sold it to Donna Langley at Universal. She loved it, I was going to direct it, and then Hellboy II happened, and then I was off to New Zealand for The Hobbit. Donna suggested I move aside and produce it. It went out to directors, but I didn’t quite like anyone for it. Finally I went through the experience of Pacific Rim with Warner Bros and Legendary, and it was the best experience I have ever had making a movie, period. I had a really good working relationship with Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni, and they asked what I wanted to do next. I sent them At The Mountains Of Madness, I sent them [The Count Of] Monte Cristo, another project I’ve tried to do for 20 years. I also sent Crimson Peak, but didn’t expect a reaction because it’s not a typical Legendary movie. Much to my surprise, Thomas Tull called 9:30 at night on the day I sent it and said, ‘I don’t know how it ends, but I am on page 45 and I love it.’ Next day, Jon Jashni called and said we think it’s the best project for us, just the right size.

Just going off of his and everyone else's enthusiasm for this film project gets me excited about it! Del Toro is an awesome director and storyteller, and I can't wait to see what he's planning for us! As for his long awaited At the Mountains of Maddness, he's not going to let it die just yet...

They love it, but we just finished Pacific Rim. They want to let that film happen and then my hope is, down the line we can do it. People ask how do i choose projects. All the projects in my roster are there because I love them, but the financing process is serendipity. And often, the ones I think will happen don’t, and the ones I think won’t happen, do.

First Good Look at Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs

$

Well, Ashton Kutcher certainly pulls off the look of Steve Jobs in the new movie jOBS. The question is, will he be able to pull off a solid performance? We'll find out soon enough. The movie is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next year, and we'll be there to see it and review it!

The movie is being directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I do like how Aaron Sorkins' vision of the man is going to be completely different than this one. This one is more of a typical biopic, the one Sorkin is writing will be told in three scenes at three different Keynote events in his career. I do hope that both movies end up being good, but I'm more interested in Sorkin's take on the man.

Here's a comparable picture of the real Jobs.

You can click here to see some previously released set photos showing Josh Gad as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak; Ahna O’Reilly as Jobs’ girlfriend Chris-Ann BrennanLukas Haas as Apple employee DanielKottke; Dermot Mulroney as former Apple CEO Mike Markkula; and Matthew Modine as former Apple CEO John Sculley.

Synopsis:

The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that.

jOBS chronicles the 30 most defining years of Steve Jobs’ life, as seen through his, colleagues’, and friends’ eyes. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, jOBS plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs’ life.

A rousing narrative of this business and tech icon, jOBS pulls no punches and does not speculate, telling only the candid and captivating account of the life of Steven Paul Jobs.
