Here's Why Television Credits Have Evolved As Time Goes On

$

We don't think about it much, but opening sequences for television shows have really turned it up in the past couple decades! Think back to shows like Bonanza or The Munsters where the opening sequence was used to introduce characters before you jumped into the show, to now where they're these epic abstract images and all sorts of stuff to get you hype as you head into the episode. Some of this is credited to new technology, but a bulk of it revolves around the evolution of television, which you can learn more about in Wired's video below.

Watch: R2-D2 Is Sad When Obi-Wan Kenobi Doesn't Remember Him on Tatooine

I know there are bigger Star Wars fans out there than me, so maybe they could answer this question. When Luke Skywalker meets Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine in the original Star Wars, why doesn't Obi-Wan remember his previous exploits with R2-D2? The real answer may be that George Lucas might not have thought far enough ahead at that point to know he wanted to actually make the prequels one day and that those two would have crossed paths at that time in the story, but does the franchise itself offer a reason? Is it just Obi-Wan's memory going bad?

In any case, YouTuber Jeffim Sheroky has put together an amusing little video that shows R2 having sad flashbacks to all of their adventures together set to Gary Jules' haunting cover of "Mad World."

the-wonder-woman-promo-spot-and-poster-have-been-released-for-justice-league1

We've already seen Justice League character promo teasers and posters for Aquaman, Batman, and The Flash. Now, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman gets her big Justice League debut! One of the biggest teases that it offers is a shot of Diana Prince walking toward some kind of aircraft, which could be our first look at the Flying Fox, which is the Justice League's tactical jet that Bruce Wayne has built for the team.

The new full trailer for the film is being released tomorrow, so stay tuned for that! It looks like the next promo spot and poster we see will be for Cyborg!

Fueled by the hero’s restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Justice League sees Bruce Wayne enlist the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, and Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Justice League will open in theaters on November 10, 2017.

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has been talking about producing a remake of William Lustig's 1988 cult classic film Maniac Cop since at least 2012, and after a long stretch of development, it appears things are finally on track and moving forward once again.

Variety reports that the film has been given an official greenlight and will shoot this summer in Los Angeles. John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning) will direct, and the script comes from Refn and comic writer Ed Brubaker. Refn will serve as a creative producer alongside Lustig, the director of the original. One of the film's other producers said this new iteration "will not be a pure horror film but rather a contemporary and realistic action thriller."

Set in the present, Maniac Cop follows a determined L.A. police officer who sets out to reveal the truth about the brutal murders of innocent people by one of her fellow cops. Take a look at the original trailer below:

Updated with another poster that you can check out below:

The official Spider-Man: Homecoming Twitter account released a new poster for Marvel'shighly anticipated film. It features Spider-Man kickin' it in New York City listening to some tunes, and it came with the caption:

"Homework can wait. The city can't"

Apparently, he's taking a little break from both school and enjoying the city in this poster. As you can see, you've got Stark Tower prominently in the background. Actor Tom Holland previously talked about the film, explaining that it's more of a character piece "about this kid who’s struggling to talk to girls and also struggling to save the city… This is really a movie where Spider-Man’s not the finished article. He really does learn and he makes massive mistakes. It’s nice to see a kid do that and then try to rectify those mistakes.”

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Jon Watts is directing the film, and it has a strong cast that also includes Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, JacobBatalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7th, 2017. To catch up on all of our Spider-Man: Homecoming news, click here.

Chris Evans Is Open to Returning as Captain America Following AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Is Chris Evans really done playing Captain America? We still don't have that answer, but we do have some indication that he's interested in re-signing the contract following the conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War. Evans shared his mindset with Collider:

“It’s really not up to me. My contract is up. I’m not going to sit here and say, “No more.” I think Hugh Jackman has made 47 Wolverine movies, and they somehow keep getting better. It’s a character I love, and it’s a factory that really knows what they’re doing. The system is sound, over there. They make great movies. If they weren’t kicking out quality, I’d have a different opinion. But, everything Marvel does seems to be cinema gold. And like I said, I love the character. The only reason it would end is ‘cause my contract is up. After Avengers 4, my contract is done. Talk to Marvel. If we engage further, I’d be open to it. I love the character. It’s almost like high school. You certainly always look to senior year, and then, all of a sudden, senior year happens and you’re like, “I don’t know if I’m ready to go.” It’s tough thinking about not playing the guy.”

That's a smart way to play it. The fact of the matter is, Evans is worth more now than he was back then, and when you take on a role like this, you got to get paid. I say that because it affects your career. Guys like Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman, and Robert Downey Jr. have to turn down roles to make their commitments to these characters time and time again. If a studio wants to lock you down for the next six years for blockbuster films, they have to get out the pocketbook. I don't think it's unreasonable for Evans to want more money from Disney.

On the flip side, Disney is already paying Robert Downey Jr. out the nose to play Iron Man, so maybe they see it as easier to kill Iron Man and have Sebastian Stan make the transition from Winter Soldier to Captain America. There's a lot of stuff that can go down with this deal, so how knows how it will turn out? We, of course, will keep you updated with whatever we learn!

In case you've been off the web a couple days, Gorillaz are back and they have a new single. It's been a minute since we've had this kind of weirdness in our life, so you might feel a little out of sorts while you watch the music video for "Saturnz Barz," but you should be good afterwards. The actual song starts at 2:30, but I suggest watching just to hear that awesome rap by Vince Staples at the beginning! You'll hear some other previews of other tracks in the video as well, so stick around after the song!

The new album drops April 28th.

The final promo teaser and character poster has been released for Justice League leading up the full trailer tomorrow. This one centers on Ray Fisher's Cyborg, and we get to see him in action as he blasts away to save someone from some falling debris. This is our best look yet at the character in the DCEU, and it'll be interesting to see how his story arc plays out over the course of the film. I'm not really impressed by his design or the CGI, though.

Amy Schumer Is Out of the BARBIE Movie

Amy Schumer is out of the Barbie movie. Variety reports that Schumer dropped out of the project after scheduling conflicts. The actress will be promoting her upcoming movie Snatched as well as She Came To Me and will not be able to jump on set quickly enough to meet the film's June 2018 release date.

Tough break for Schumer, although it's not as though the reaction surrounding her attachment to the project was exactly glowing. I think she would've made the film a little more interesting with her comedic style, but believe it or not, I'm not champing at the bit to see a Barbie movie. Who do you think should be the new Barbie?

Review: LIFE Is a Captivating, Terrifying, and Entertaining Sci-Fi Film

$
0
0

I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t really looking forward to Life. After seeing Arrival last year, I didn’t think there was much another sci-fi alien movie could offer. But I enjoy the sci-fi genre, and the cast of this movie simply can’t be ignored: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Rebecca Furguson. So needless to say, my interest was piqued.

The movie starts out with the only exposition being some voiceover delivered by one of the crew members. We jump right into a retrieval mission where it appears that some debris of some sort has been gathered from Mars and it is up to this crew of astronauts (a few of whom are played by the awesome actors aforementioned) to study it and search for signs of life. And what do you know, they find it.

But things quickly take a turn for the worst (of course) when we humans try once again to meddle with something we don't fully understand. I don't want to give away too much; I think it’s important to go into this movie knowing as little as possible, but I will say that this film is not for the squeamish.

Life is perhaps the most unoriginal space movie I've seen in a long time. It borrows heavily from the classic sci-fi film Alien, and it also gave off some vibes reminiscent of Gravity as well. I was worried about unoriginality going into this movie because Hollywood isn’t exactly in the business of groundbreaking storytelling these days. But Life felt like it was just different enough and so well-done that even though it was obviously a rehashing of some old themes, I was totally into it.

One of the things that made this film so great was the special effects. They were phenomenal. Again, I don’t want to give anything away, but I was in awe. Turns out zero gravity blood is pretty awesome.

Picky people might overanalyze this movie, find a bunch of plot holes, and criticize it for being too unoriginal, but when I watch a movie, the first thing I look for is whether or not it was entertaining. And that’s exactly what this movie did. I was captivated, I was terrified, I was even grossed out a bit. And if that’s not entertainment, I don’t know what is.

James Franco and Seth Rogen Are Developing a '90s Teen Drama for Hulu

$

James Franco and Seth Rogan are teaming up to develop a new teen drama series for Hulu that is set in the 1990s. What I love about this is that these two guys got their big break in Hollywood on a little teen drama series in the '90s called Freaks and Geeks, which ended up being a classic.

They are developing the series as executive producers with author and social media personality Kelly Oxford, who has been brought on to write the script. The hour-long series doesn't have a title yet and there's really no other information to offer at this point.

I'm just looking forward to seeing what this team of talent ends up delivering. Franco and Rogen always tend to make fun and entertaining shows and movies and the fact that they are developing a series set in the' 90s is intriguing because my whole teenage existence took place in the '90s. Because of that, there's a good chance this series will strike a cord with me and anyone else who was a teenager in the '90s.

ZOMBIELAND Director Set to Helm the Action-Comedy Adaptation of ARCHER & ARMSTRONG

$

0

Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is set to take on the big screen adaptation of Valiant Entertainment's action-comedy comic book Archer & Armstrong. I've never read the comic, but was published in 1992 and it was created by former Marvel editor-in-chief Jim ShooterWolverine: Weapon X writer and artist Barry Windsor-Smith, and comic book writer and artist Bob Layton, who is best know for his work on Marvel Comics titles such as Iron Man and Hercules.

I've heard a lot of great things about this comic series, and it seems like it would make for a great film. If you're not familiar with it, here's an official plot description:

After years of meditation and training, 18-year-old Obadiah Archer has been dispatched to New York City to carry out the sacred mission of his family’s sect – locate and kill the fun-loving, hard-drinking immortal known as Armstrong! But as this naive teenage assassin stalks his prey, he’ll soon find that both hunter and hunted are just pawns in a centuries-old conspiracy that stretches from the catacombs beneath Wall Street to the heights of the Himalayas. And Archer & Armstrong will have to work together if the future is to stand any chance of surviving the past’s greatest threat!

Terry Rossio has been hired to write the film. He has spent a lot of his time in Hollywood working on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and was most recently brought in to lead the writer's room for Legendary Pictures' Godzilla and King Kong MonsterVerse.

After doing a little research on this comic, it seems like the kind of material that leans more toward something like Deadpool, which is what audiences are prime for right now. It seems like a project that I'd enjoy, and I can see Fleischer doing some fun things with it.
