RIDDICK - International Teaser Poster

0
0

I think this is the first thing we've seen from the new Riddick movie that wasn't released by Vin Diesel or director David Twohy. I'm excited to see the story of this character continue! I hope it ends up being awesome and a box office success so they will make more of them!

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

The movie also stars Karl Urban (Star Trek), Jordi Molla (Bad Boys II), Matt Nable (Killer Elite), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall), Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption), Conrad Pla (Immortals), Raoul Trujillo (Apocalypto), Nolan Funk (Aliens in America) and Keri Hilson.

Christopher Nolan Explains His DARK KNIGHT RISES Open-Ending

0

The ending of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises sparked a lot of discussion and debate amoung fanboys and fangirls. It even sparked rumors that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would end up playing the new Batman in future films. Most recently there was a big rumor that he would be playing Batman in Justice League, which his reps quickly shot down.

I liked the open natured ending of Nolan's film, it left me with a feeling of hope that the Gotham City Nolan created will always be protected. Sure I thought it would be cool to see the franchise go on with Gordon-Levitt taking the lead, but I never really expected it to happen because Nolan said over and over again that this would be his last film, and that it would close his story.

The director recently sat down for an interview with Film Comment, and during that interview he explained his open-ended finish to the film saying,

For me, The Dark Knight Rises is specifically and definitely the end of the Batman story as I wanted to tell it, and the open-ended nature of the film is simply a very important thematic idea that we wanted to get into the movie, which is that Batman is a symbol. He can be anybody, and that was very important to us. Not every Batman fan will necessarily agree with that interpretation of the philosophy of the character, but for me it all comes back to the scene between Bruce Wayne and Alfred in the private jet in Batman Begins, where the only way that I could find to make a credible characterization of a guy transforming himself into Batman is if it was as a necessary symbol, and he saw himself as a catalyst for change and therefore it was a temporary process, maybe a five-year plan that would be enforced for symbolically encouraging the good of Gotham to take back their city. To me, for that mission to succeed, it has to end, so this is the ending for me, and as I say, the open-ended elements are all to do with the thematic idea that Batman was not important as a man, he’s more than that. He’s a symbol, and the symbol lives on.

That pretty much sums it up. I don't think Warner Bros. is going to tinker around with Nolan's Batman universe anymore. It's safe to say that that story is closed, and that when the studio does bring back Batman, it's going to be another reimagining of the character. I don't see Nolan's universe spilling into any of Warner Bros. future DC superhero movies. I'm looking forward to finding out what exactly they're planning for the future of the Batman franchise.

This is the eighth TV spot that's been released, and I'm sure it wont be the last. The movie will be released on December 14th, and of course it's going to be the amazing film we all want it to be!

STAR WARS LEGO Marriage Proposal

Out of every possible way you could propose to you loved one have you ever thought of using Star Wars LEGOs to do it? When I proposed to my wife I did it at the beach and had an illegal fireworks show all ready to go... if she said yes. But star wars LEGOs are cool too!

This guy took his love of Star Wars and LEGO and built a cute little diorama to propose to the woman he loves. It's a little Stormtrooper on one knee holding the girl, proposing to a cute little rebel girl. Not sure how this marriage is going to work as their employers are at war with each other. Must be some kind of Star Wars Romeo and Juliet kind of thing.

What do you think about this geek proposal? Oh, and I have no idea if she said yes.

Spike TV's VGA GAME OF THE DECADE Nominees Released - Do You Agree?

0

So my good Twitter friend EscoBlades, a consultant over at Ubisoft, tweeted out a link to an article on Entertainment Weekly talking about the Top 10 Best Games of the Last Decade. So naturally I’m interested and want to check out what they listed. You see, EW is teaming up with Spike TV for this year’s Video Game Awards in choosing the game of the decade. But the thing is, some of these titles just seem odd to be on the list.

Spike TV/Entertainment Weekly's Nominees for Game of the Decade include:

  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • Half-Life 2
  • World of Warcraft
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Wii Sports
  • BioShock
  • Portal
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Batman: Arkham City

Within their article they lay out what exactly went into creating their list:

In attempting to put together a list of the 10 best games of the last decade, the EW brain trust looked at games that pushed the medium forward. Some popular choices fell by the wayside — there are a lot of great games hovering at No. 11 on this list.

Even with that explanation, I’m a little confused. Mostly all of these titles deserve to be on this list. Batman: Arkham City basically showed us all what a comic book/super hero game should be. Meanwhile, World of Warcraft has continuously shown us what makes a good MMO.

When one looks and finds Red Dead Redemption on the list, it just leaves you a little perplexed. What exactly did that game do to push the medium? Whenever I ask someone to tell me what’s so great about Red Dead, they simply say “Because it’s basically Grand Theft Auto, but like in a Western setting with horses.” No seriously, I’ve heard way too many people describe the game like that. This is not saying Rockstar didn’t put out a great game with Red Dead, but I would most definitely put Grand Theft Auto IV on that list before that game.

There’s no mention of hit games like Call of Duty (any of them), Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Halo (any of them), Uncharted and countless other games. So what am I missing? How exactly is Wii Sports game of the decade? I would 100% say that the Wii console itself changed a lot of things in the industry. We all would have to agree that a PS Move or Xbox Kinect would not even be around if it wasn’t for the Wii console sparking the whole “movement based” games. But how did the Wii Sports game itself change things?

I will leave this to you, the readers. Do you agree with this list? What games do you think deserve to be considered for Game of the Decade?

George Clooney and Paul Greengrass Team up for Crime Thriller

George Clooney and director Paul Greengrass are teaming up to make a untitled crime thriller being written by Chris Terrio. Clooney is attached to star in the film and Greengrass will direct. All we know about the film right now is that it's set in the world of New York criminal syndicates. I wish there was more info, but there's not.

Most of you already know the films of Clooney and Greengrass, but might be a new name to many of you. He recently wrote the script for Ben Affleck's Argo, and he just finished the first draft of the remake of the French thriller Tell No One for Warner Bros., and he's also writing a film called A Murder Foretold for Paramount Pictures.

This is a solid team of talent, and I'll be looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us with this one. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Child Dressed Up as Hannibal Lecter is Rather Adorable

When looking at this picture of a child strapped to a hand-truck with a straight-jacket on, a few questions pop into my head:

  1. Does this kid even know who Hannibal Lecter is?
  2. Where are his parents?
  3. What if the kid has to use the bathroom?
  4. Who is selling jewelry behind him?

Normally I can't stand little kids running around with their germs, wet noses, and lack of manners, but this picture is actually kind of cute. Let's just hope he doesn't grow up to eat his patients.

CBS Orders 13-Episodes for Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME

Last year it was announced that Stephen King and Stephen Spielberg would be teaming up to adapt novel Under the Dome for the small screen. For those of you who liked this story, and are looking forward to seeing this series get made, you'll be happy to learn that CBS has ordered up 13-episodes! They've also hired Brian K. Vaughan of LOST to write the series, and the director of the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Niels Arden Ople, to direct the first episode.

Deadline says that there are going to be some changes in the adaptation saying, "I hear the project’s writer Brian K. Vaughan kept the general conceit and many of the characters from the book but also introduced new characters as regulars and tweaked some details and backstory for the existing ones. I hear King has blessed all the changes. As for the book’s much-talked-about ending, which has divided King fans, the series may necessary follow it as in success, CBS would like to do another season."

The show was previously set up at Showtime, but they didn't want to move forward with it for one reason or another. I'm extremely happy that the project is moving forward! The plan is to release it in Summer 2013.

Here's the story description:

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener’s hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician’s assistant at the hospital, a selectwoman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Han Solo and Indiana Jones Mashup Art - Scoundrels

Han Solo and Indiana Jones are two of my favorite movie characters of all time, and here's a wonder illustration that pays tribute to these badass characters. It's appropriately called Scoundrels, and it was created by William O'Neill for the Star Wars VI Celebration in Florida. I'm now going to ask you a hard question... which of these two characters do you like more?

Johnny Depp Reprises Role for New Pirates of the Caribbean Attraction

We still have yet to officially find out if Johnny Depp will be pack as Captain Jack Sparrow in a Pirates of the Caribbean 5, but he did come back to play the character for a new Disney attraction called The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow, which is located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the Walt Disney World Resort.

We have a cool behind the scenes video featuring the Disney Imagineering team talking about their experience creating the ride, and how awesome it was to work with Depp. Here's some more information on the attraction that was included with the video,

The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow is a walk-through attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that will allow guests to follow in the footsteps of Jack Sparrow to see if they have what it takes to join his rowdy and daring pirate crew. In this video from Walt Disney Imagineering, Imagineers Jason Surrell, Laura Mitchell, Charita Carter and Jason Roberts take us behind the scenes of the making of this new experience. According to them, creating an entirely new attraction based on the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film franchise was a dream come true, as was working with the film’s lead actor, Johnny Depp, who reprised his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for the attraction’s film elements.

I've also included a walk through of the attraction below. I've never been to Florida, and I have no idea when I will be making a trip over there so it's nice that we can see these things through the internet.

TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D New Trailer - Big Legend

There's a new TV Spot for Texas Chainsaw 3D that's been released, and it's got some new footage for you to check out. I loved the original movie, and I hope this one turns out good. It's a direct sequel to the Toby Hooper directed movie, and it starts off right where the end of the original left off. The movie will explain, through flashbacks, exactly what happened at the end of the original film and why Leatherface is still on his bloody chainsaw temper tantrum.

Here's the Synopsis:

Lionsgate's TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D continues the legendary story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace. The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible. Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends. Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family--or so they thought. Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion's dank cellars...

Insanely Rad Horror Short NIGHT OF THE PUNKS

Night of the Punks is a short film I think a lot of you will enjoy watching, especially if you like crazy violent and bloody horror. It's extremely entertaining and I love the old school nostalgic horror punk vibe that it has. They used real practical effects and make-up to make it as well! The film was directed by Dan Riesser, and here's the synopsis...

Small town punk rockers THE BRAIN DEADS have their first out of town gig. But there are a few problems: The venue is deserted, the promoter is a creep, their bass player has gone missing, and the only kids in the audience appear to be bloodthirsty monsters from hell. It's gonna take a lot more than a few power chords and teenage angst to survive this night. NIGHT OF THE PUNKS is a love letter to 1980's splatterpunk cinema, echoing classics like "The Return of the Living Dead," "The Evil Dead" and "Night of the Demons."

The short is as great as it sounds, and it's got the making of a cult classic. This is a really fun movie, and I hope you enjoy the insanity!

Gus Van Sant Developing Martial Arts Superhero Film

Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant is mostly known for making small indie film drama type stories. I've liked most of the movies he's made, he's a solid director, and it was shockingly awesome to here about a new project that he's working on that's a grounded martial arts superhero movie!

Van Sant described it being "a little bit of a superhero movie and a little bit of Stephen Chow." Chow is the writer and star of the film Kung Fu Hustle. The director went on to explain, that the film is set on "Hollywood Boulevard and Gower, near the Pep Boys sign." He was inspired to write the story after an encounter with a "very frail" looking woman with bags at that very spot.

I thought, Oh my God, she's going to get hit, and then I thought that maybe she has more going on than I think. Maybe I should give her more credit. Maybe she could kick my ass.

It's that thought that led him to start working on a story about "a small area of Hollywood that is besieged by crime" and a group of people who "get together to clean it up." He's still in the process of writing it, and he said that he's been working on watercolor paintings of the characters in his story. I freakin' love the idea, and I truly hope that Van Sant is able to get this movie made! This would be different from anything Van Sant has made before, and I'm curious to see how his vision turns out!

London's Real Life Spider-Man - Peter Parkour

I wish I could do half of the stuff that this Peter Parkour guy can do! He truly is a real life Spider-Man jumping and flipping all over the city of London. The only thing he doesn't have are the web-shooters. The video was released to promote the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Amazing Spider-Man. Parkour is a pretty awesome sport, the stuff these people can do amazes me.

A new behind the scenes featurette from Jack Reacher has been released called The Reacher Phenomenon. In it the author of the books, Lee Child, talks about the character he created, the film, and Tom Cruise playing the lead role. It's also packed with footage from the movie.

The movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun, writer of The Usual Suspects), and is based on the ninth book the series, One Shot. Jack Reacher also stars Robert DuvallRosamund Pike, Jai Courtney and Werner Herzog.

Here's the Synopsis:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: "Get Jack Reacher!" So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

The film hits theaters on December 21st 2012.

ALL SUPERHEROES MUST DIES Trailers - KICK-ASS Meets SAW

0

Here's a couple of trailers for a very dark looking indie superhero movie called All Superheroes Must Die. It's described as Kick-Ass meets Saw, and it tells the "twisted tale about four young superheroes forced by their arch-nemesis to complete a series of deadly challenges in order to save innocent lives." The heroes are forced to compete against each other in the process as well.

This looks like a fun movie that's sparked my interest. I think it will be worth checking out. Jason Trost (The FP) wrote, directed and stars in the film along with James Remar (Dexter) and Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class). The movie will be released on January 29th, 2012 on DVD, Blu-Ray, VOD and iTunes. Watch the trailers and let us know if it's a film you'd want to check out!

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY - Early Buzz Round-Up

0

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is one of my most anticipated films ever, and with Peter Jackson at the helm I'm confident that it will be the movie we are all excited about seeing! The premiere of the film was recently held in New Zealand, and here's a round-up of some of the stuff people are saying... thankfully most of it is positive!

New York Daily News posted the a review of the film even though there's an embargo on it. In it the talk about the higher frame rate and compared Radagast the Brown to Jar Jar Binks...

Like all unexpected journeys, there are a few pitfalls along the way, most notably the tangential subplot surrounding bumbling wizard Radagast the Brown (Sylvester McCoy), whose buffoonery at times descends into Jar Jar Binks territory.

The movie offers technological wizardry, thanks to a 48 frames-per-second format, twice the industry standard. Critics who saw a trailer earlier this year were unimpressed, but after a minute or two of adjusting, the higher resolution is eye-popping, similar to discovering HD television for the first time.

I'm not really bothered by the Jar Jar Binks comment, but It's a comment that will definitely raise some eyebrows. Here's a few more from Twitter....

I know not everyone is going to love this film, it will most likely end up getting mixed reviews, but I think the hardcore fans are going to eat it up. I can't wait to see it for myself!

Release Date set for Joss Whedon's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

0
0

Joss Whedon's contemporary adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing will be released limitedly by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate on June 7th, 2013. It will then get a wide release on June 21st. The movie is an independent film, yet it got a solid summer release date. I imagine the studios hope that the fans of The Avengers will give it a shot. The hardcore Whedon fans will most definitely be showing up though. I've heard the movie is great, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The movie was shot in 12 days, while Whedon was working on The Avengers. The comedy stars Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher, Clark Gregg and Reed Diamond. It will be interesting to see how it ends up doing at the box office.

Synopsis:

Much Ado About Nothing, a modern version of Shakespeare’s classic comedy adapted and directed by Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), is the first feature from Bellwether, a micro-studio created by Whedon and Kai Cole for the production of small, independent narratives for all media, embracing a DIY ethos and newer technologies for, in this particular case, a somewhat older story.

Shot in black and white by Jay Hunter (Paperheart), the film stars Amy Acker (The Cabin in the Woods) and Alexis Denisof (How I Met Your Mother) as Beatrice and Benedick, the world’s least likely lovers headed for their inevitable tumble into love. As Joss Whedon puts it: “The text is to me a deconstruction of the idea of love, which is ironic, since the entire production is a love letter – to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in.” The supporting cast includes Nathan Fillion Castle) as Dogberry, Clark Gregg (The Avengers) as Leonato, Fran Kranz (The Cabin in the Woods) as Claudio and Reed Diamond (Moneyball) as Don Pedro.

Michael Bay's ALMANAC Inspired by BACK TO THE FUTURE II

0
0

Earlier this year it was reported that Michael Bay would be producing a Chronicle found footage type film called Almanac. There was no information on what the film would be about when it was first announced, but we now have some story details. As you'll see it was definitely inspired by Back to the Future II. Thanks to Bleeding Cool here's a rundown of the story...

The lead character, David, is a smart kid in high school but he’s finding dating hard. He’s drawn to Jessie, the typical popular girl, and decides that he’ll try to attract her by winning the science fair, and the college scholarship that will net him. Bless.

David’s late father was a scientist and so he looks through his Dad’s stuff for ideas – and he finds two things of note. One gives him the ability to time travel… and the other is a sports almanac. Anybody who has seen Back to the Future 2 can guess where this is headed.

Two more of David’s friends travel back through time with him to abuse the almanac. Timelines get messed with, we learn more about David’s Dad’s research and there’s apparently a couple of pretty big twists… one of which I was able to guess, in fact.

Apparently Back to the Future doesn't exist in this universe, because maybe if they would have heard Doc Browns warning to Marty they wouldn't have gone crazy with the abuse of time travel. The script was written by first-time writers Andrew Starkand Jason Pagan, and Dean Israelite is attached to direct. They go on to say,

Much of the success of Almanac will be down to casting, I’m told. The lead roles spend a lot of time together, and its their relationships and interactions that will elevate the film.

I wouldn't say this is a complete rip-off, but they definitely took the concept from Back to the Future, and ran with it. Hopefully it turns out to be good movie.
