Fun, Interesting, and Rare Alternate and Deleted Scenes From Tim Burton's BEETLEJUICE

Beetlejuice is easily one of my favorite Tim Burton movies. It's such a ridiculously fun film! I know a lot of you are fans as well, so I thought you might want to watch some rare early workprints from the film. What's great about these is that they offer some alternate footage and deleted scenes from the film that I've never seen before, probably because they've never been officially released. The videos were uploaded last year but they are just starting to find traction online.

These clips are from the original workprint of the film, which interestingly enough is two minutes shorter than the version that was released in theaters. IMDB breaks down the four major differences of this version of the film:

This version of the film runs around 2 minutes shorter than the theater release, has a few extra scenes and is missing some. This version has 4 major differences.
Alternate scene: The scene were Adam attempts to leave the house after he and his wife die is different. Instead of a desert he sees empty darkness filled with rolling cogs.
Extra Scenes: There is an added scene were Lydia is developing the pictures she took of Adam and Barbra. Then after her mother yells at her and blames her for cutting holes in her sheets Lydia runs upstairs and tries to convince her dad the pictures are real. There is an added 10 seconds after the adults were in the attic searching for the ghost were we see the desert monster trying to eat Adam and Barbra as they hang from the attic window.
Finally there is an extra 2 minute scene at the end were we see Lydia riding her bike home from school and her parents talking to Jane on the phone telling her they do not want to sell the house.
Side note: Lydia’s dancing scene is cut short in this version, and there is no scene with Beetlejuice in the waiting room.

The scene where Adam steps into empty darkness filled with rolling cogs is really weird! Watch all the clips below and let us know what you think! I just thought they'd be fun to share with you fellow fans.

Six Secrets to Taking Down the Indestructible Deadpool

Deadpool is virtually indestructible and cannot be killed... or can he? Deadpool is one of my favorite Marvel characters because of his charming sense of humor. As you know, he has been blessed or cursed with a healing power that keeps him alive and kicking ass, so how does one defeat Deadpool if one finds oneself going up against him? Well, Looper lists six ways that could defeat him. The explain:

Filmgoers have finally discovered something Deadpool's longtime comics fans have known for a while: the Merc with a Mouth is nearly impossible to kill. He soaks up bullets, survives buildings burning down, and even regrows a hand in the weirdest way possible. It's easy to leave the theater wondering exactly how anyone could ever defeat someone with such an amazing healing factor. Fortunately, years of Deadpool comics have offered an array of techniques for accomplishing just such a goal. Supervillains, avert your eyes! Here are just a few ways to defeat Deadpool...

The six things listed in the video below include the following sub-titles: "It takes a planet," "Take away his powers," "Science!" "Cure his cancer," "Give him the feels," and "Heroes and Villains." You can learn the explanations behind the things listed here in the video below.

Ryan Reynolds has officially released the fantastic Deadpool short film that plays before Logan. The short is called "No Good Deed" and it serves as a promotion for Deadpool 2. None of the footage in this short will end up being in the sequel, though. This was created for the fans to give them a little Deadpool fix to tide them over while we wait for the sequel. The video is brilliantly funny and it's the best use of John Williams' classic Superman score since Superman. This is also a longer version of short than what's in theaters and it includes an awesome unexpected cameo! Enjoy!

La La Land may not have won Best Picture at the Oscars this past weekend (props to Moonlight for taking home the top prize), but it's easily the most parodied Oscar nominee of the year. And even though we're done with the Academy Awards for another year, I'm still seeing some parodies pop up that I hadn't seen before. Enter: NY NY Land, a parody that transplants the love story from Los Angeles to New York City. In it, Mia isn't an aspiring actress, she's an aspiring app designer. And Sebastian isn't into jazz, he's a Wall Street finance bro. The dude imitating Ryan Gosling actually kind of sounds like him, too. Enjoy.

donnie-darko-is-returning-to-theaters-with-a-4k-restoration

Arrow Films has announced that the 4K restoration of Richard Kelly's cult film Donnie Darko will be making its domestic theatrical debut. This version of this film had a successful rerelease in the UK for its 15th anniversary, and it is now set to be released in the US on March 31st.

I remember being blown away by this movie when I first saw it in theaters when it was released. I loved it. Unfortunately, Kelly never made anything as good as it again. As a longtime fan of the film, I'm excited about the opportunity of to see it in theaters again.

You can see all of the details about the rerelease below and I also included the trailer:

15 years before Stranger Things combined science-fiction, Spielbergian touches and ’80s nostalgia to much acclaim, Kelly set the template and the benchmark with his debut feature, Donnie Darko. Initially beset with distribution problems, it would slowly find its audience and emerge as arguably the first cult classic of the new millennium. The 4K restoration of Donnie Darko will premiere at the Vista in Los Angeles on March 30th, and officially open in Los Angeles at the Cinefamily and in New York at Metrograph on March 31st.
Described by director Richard Kelly as “The Catcher in the Rye as told by Philip K. Dick,” Donnie Darko combines an eye-catching, eclectic cast: pre-stardom Jake (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain, Nocturnal Animals) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Sherry Baby, The Dark Knight), Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Neon Demon), the late heartthrob Patrick Swayze (Dirty Dancing, Ghost), Drew Barrymore (E.T., Grey Gardens, Santa Clarita Diet) Oscar nominees Mary McDonnell (Dances With Wolves, Passion Fish, Battlestar Galactica) and Katharine Ross (The Graduate, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Stepford Wives), and television favorite Noah Wyle (ER, Falling Skies) and an evocative soundtrack of ’80s classics by Echo and the Bunnymen, Tears for Fears, Duran Duran and more.
The brand-new 4K restoration was produced by Arrow Films from the original camera negatives and supervised and approved by Kelly and cinematographer Steven Poster. The 4K restoration premiered to a packed audience at the National Film Theatre in London on December 17th, 2016, with an introduction by Richard Kelly.
Donnie Darko will also return for weeklong theatrical runs in Denver, Columbus, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and San Francisco on March 31st, and in El Paso and Detroit on April 7.
Special screenings include Jacksonville, Austin, Dallas, Honolulu, Lubbock, Baton Rouge, Sioux Falls, Oklahoma City, Tucson, Durham and Stamford throughout March and April.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5 Concept Art Shows Off Ghost Sharks1

Some cool concept art from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales has surfaced featuring some wicked looking ghost sharks! I'm excited to see what these things look like when they are brought to life on the big screen. I love the concept of ghost sharks!

Johnny Depp returns to the big screen as the iconic, swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the all-new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The rip-roaring adventure finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazer (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea – notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifull small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced.

The film also stars Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, Golshifteh Farahani as the sea-witch Shansa, David Wenham as Scarfield, Stephen Graham as Scrum, and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was directed by Norwegian filmmakers Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (Kon-Tiki), and their involvement is the only reason I believe there's a chance that this movie will be good. It's set to be released on theaters on May 26, 2017.

Powerful Homemade Nerf Gun Can Shoot a Foam Dart Through a Tin Can

YouTuber Giaco Whatever took the power of Nerf to a whole new level with a homemade Nerf gun that he built. This thing is super powerful and can shoot a foam Nerf dart at a speed that can shoot right through a tin can! His dart blaster generates 400 PSI of pressure which could do some serious damage if it was shot at an actual person. I'm never going to get in a Nerf battle with this guy! I'll stick to the regular cool looking Nerf guns that can't kill a person.

Captain Marvel Flies Into Battle in Awesome Fan Art by Boss Logic

One of the future Marvel films that I'm incredibly excited about is Captain Marvel. We've got a long way to go until it's released, but Boss Logic has released a piece of fan art he created featuring a scene of Captain Marvel racing into war followed by fleet of jets. It's a pretty spectacular image and it gives us the artist's imagining of something he would want to see in the movie.

Captain Marvel has yet to hire a director, but Brie Larson is set to play the title character in the film that will be released on March 8th, 2019.

Watch: Shots From MOONLIGHT Compared With the Films of Wong Kar-Wai

$

It's a shame that Moonlight's Best Picture win has been largely overshadowed by the unprecedented screw-up that occurred at last weekend's Oscars ceremony, but once the dust settles, I hope it starts to sink in that Moonlight is not only the first black film to win Best Picture that wasn't a period piece involving a slave narrative, but it's also the first LGBTQ movie to win the Academy's top prize. That's a big freaking deal, and deserves to be at the forefront of the conversation.

In an attempt to refocus our attention from "envelopegate" back to the movie that won, I wanted to share this video from YouTuber Alessio Marinacci that compares shots from Barry Jenkins' gorgeous movie with those in the films of Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai. Personally, the works of the latter fall into one of my cinematic blind spots, but considering how wonderful the cinematography was in Moonlight and how clearly Jenkins was influenced by Kar-Wai's films, I'm more inspired than ever to seek out some of those earlier works.

Movies on display: Moonlight (Barry Jenkins, 2016), Days of Being Wild (Wong Kar-wai, 1990), In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-wai, 2000), Happy Together (Wong Kar-wai, 1997)

LOGAN Explodes at the Box Office With $238.7 Million Globally! What Does This Mean for R-Rated Comic Book Films?

$
0
0

Fans have been wanting to see a hardcore version Wolverine since Fox started making the X-Men films. We finally got it with Logan and fans showed up in droves to finally see Wolverine get crazy violent and draw some real blood.

Director James Mangold and Hugh Jackman got to make the Wolverine movie they wanted to make. A movie that the studio initially was worried about because of it's the dark tone and they actually thought that it was going to be boring!? This just tells you that many of the studio executives don't know their audience and what they want.

Well, this weekend Logan pulled in over $83.3 million domestically and it made a near-record $152.5 million overseas. Altogether, Logan exploded with $237.8 million globally and you can bet that those studio executives who had issues with the movie are all patting each other on the back now and celebrating how smart they are and how good of a job they did. Of course, they are going to want to take credit for the success, but we all know that credit goes to Jackman, Mangold, and their creative team.

So what does this mean for R-rated comic book movies? That same question was raised after Deadpool came out, but some people thought that its success was just a fluke, but no we know that it's more than that! Fox has made two great successful R-rated comic book movies! Fox, who has had their fair share of mediocre comic book film is now leading the way for R-rated comic book films that stay true to the characters in the comics. The way that the fans want to see their favorite characters portrayed, not the watered down PG-13 versions that we've been getting.

We know that Marvel will never do a rated R movie with Disney and I doubt Warner Bros. will ever do it with the DC films, but Fox has now cornered that R-rated comic book movie market and I think they should run with it! I think it's very possible that one day we could see an R-rated X-Men movie. I definitely don't think they'll have any issues with making an R-rated X-Force film at this point. I don't really care what the rating is as long as they are true to the characters that they are bringing to the big screen.

The studio has now seen the real power of giving the comic book fans the films that they want and I don't think they're going to stop at this point. They'd be stupid if they did! What do you think about all this? Do you think Fox should run with the R rated comic book films?

Anton Yelchin’s Sci-Fi Short RISE Is Getting a Feature Film Adaptation

$

Last year we saw an incredible sci-fi short film starring Anton Yelchin called "Rise." The short came from director David Karlak, and I've got the awesome news that it will be adapted into a feature-length film. "Rise" is definitely one of those rare short films that deserves it.

The story is set in a dystopian future “where man's attempt to create artificial intelligence has spun wildly out of control.” The sentient robots “are targeted for elimination after they develop emotional symmetry to humans and a revolutionary war for their survival begins.”

The script for the film will be co-written by Karlak who will also direct. He will write the film with Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who previously worked on the Saw series.

The film will be produced by Johnny Lin, who is working on the upcoming Tom Cruise film American Made, and Brian Oliver, who has worked on films such as Hacksaw Ridge and Black Swan. Lin said in a statement:

"Brian and I are extremely excited to have an opportunity to build a film franchise based on David Karlak’s wildly popular short. I hope this is the start to a long-lasting financing and producing relationship."

It’s so cool to see an original project like this get picked up and turned into a movie, and I hope that it ends up being successful. However, it’s kinda sad that Yelchin isn’t around to be a part of it. I hate that we won't see any more movies with him.

Karlack is currently set to direct another film for Fox called Outliers, which is a supernatural action film that he pitched to the studio.

Here’s What That Long Scroll at the End of the DEADPOOL Short Says

$

0

I’m sure most of you have seen the Deadpool short “No Good Deed” by now. The short screens right before Logan starts in the theaters, and Ryan Reynolds released an extended version online. If you haven’t seen it yet, click here and watch it now!

At the very end of the short there is a lengthy scroll of text that speeds by so fast the viewer has no time to read it. Well, now we know what it says! If you haven’t bothered to pause and read through it yourself, you can just read it below.

It’s an essay on Ernest Hemingway’s classic novel The Old Man and the Sea that seems like it was written by Deadpool. The grammar and punctuation are all over the place because that’s what we’d expect from Deadpool, and it’s a very entertaining read.

I have no idea why there’s an amusing essay on The Old Man and the Sea included in this short, but some fans speculate that cold be a metaphor for what Deadpool’s relationship with Cable will be like in Deadpool 2. Check it out!

"The Old Man and the Sea is the story of a fight between an elderly, accomplished fisherman, Santiago, and a really big fish. Like… HUGE. The story opens with Santiago suffering eighty-four days without catching a fish because he’s the unluckiest son-of-a-bitch on planet earth. Honestly, if you were in a boat for eighty-four days, it’d be hard to NOT catch a fish… even by accident. Santiago was so unlucky that his apprentice, Manolin, was forbidden by his Ma and Pa to fish with him. But as The Fresh Prince used to say, ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’. So the boy visits Santiago’s shack anyway.
"Ignoring the inherent risks of unsupervised playtime with an elderly man who talks to himself, Manolin helps out, moving Santiago’s fishing gear, making food and talking about baseball. Especially Joe DiMaggio; who used to bump fuzzies with Marilyn Monroe. The next day, Santiago tells Manolin that he’s going way out into the Gulf Stream. WAY OUT north of Cuba. Lady luck is returning!
"On the eighty-fifth day of his crappy luck, Santiago drops his lines, and by noon, gets a bite from what feels like a big ass fish. He’s sure it’s a winner. He fights and fights and fights but can’t pull the monster in. Santiago’s leaky old boat is pulled by the fish for two days and nights as he holds on for dear life. Even though he’s bloody and beat, Santiago begins to appreciate this mighty adversary. He starts calling him “brother” or maybe even, “bro.” It’s sort of a love story if you really think about it. And like most romantic comedies, the reader pictures a delightful outfit changing montage, followed by the inevitable interspecies wedding.
"But on the third day, Santiago is freakin’ EXHAUSTED, and decides he just wants the fish to do what he says and not always swim wherever it wants. So he stabs it. With a f*cking harpoon. It’s a mess. Super gross. Blood everywhere. Because, like many men his age, Santiago has difficulty expressing his emotions and fears with words - instead giving in to base desires - and imposing his gigantically terrible positions on any given subject through unblinking violence. Typical.
"Anyway, he straps the marlin to the side of his skiff and hits the road home, ready to act like a total show off to everyone and probably gouge people on the price. But guess what? Pretty soon sharks begin to attack the bleeding marlin’s carcass, because we all know, life is a tragic opera and just when you think you’ve finally found something good and true, sharks come along and rip it all to f*cking shreds while dry-humping your dignity with their crazy-weird shark dicks. Sure, Santiago tries killing a few of them, but drops his harpoon because his hands are just as old as he is. By nighttime, the sharks have pretty much eaten the entire marlin.
"Only a bleach-white skeleton remains, silently mocking him in the murky darkness. Santiago realizes he’s still unlucky. REALLY unlucky. (Duh!) He calls the sharks “dream killers”. Which isn’t really all that fair. I mean, the sharks were just doing their job and the marlin… Jesus, don’t even get me started on the marlin! It was just hanging out one day, minding it’s own business, maybe thinking about ways it could be a better provider for it’s family and WHAM! Harpoon in the brain. Who’s the “dream killer” now, f*ckface? The hypocrisy is pretty much boundless at this point.
"Eventually Santiago makes it ashore. Leaving the bones of the marlin and the boat, he hobbles to his shack. He makes it home and crashes, like I said - he’s super tired. The next morning a group of fishermen gather around Santiago’s boat. One measures the skeleton and, holy shit-shingles! It’s over 18 feet! The head of the fish is given to Pedrico (strange that this is the first mention of him) and the other fishermen ask Manolin to send their glad tidings to the old man.
"Manolin brings Santiago newspapers and coffee when he wakes and they decide to fish together again. Many years later, there’s a Red Lobster Restaurant in nearly every city in America, offering a casual dining experience and convenient parking."
