BLADE RUNNER 2049 Won't Rely on CGI Effects and Green Screen Use Is Very Limited

0
0

Every big movie that comes out these days features CGI effects. Even the films that don't look special effects heavy still use a lot of green screen work. That's just the way the film industry is evolving because it's a lot cheaper to do.

Well, that's something that we won't have to worry about with Blade Runner 2049. According to director Denis Villeneuve, the movie will have extremely limited CG and green screen work. He's shooting as much as the film possible in-camera. He tells Variety:

"I think I can count on one hand how many times I saw a green screen in all of those months of shooting. There will be CG enhancements, of course, but as much as possible it was in-camera."

That's pretty awesome to hear, especially if you're a film purist. We don't see a lot of film made like this these days, so it's pretty awesome to hear that a film like Blade Runner 2049 is embracing old school filmmaking techniques. The director goes on to say that he prefers working this way saying:

“I hate green screens. It sucks out all my energy. I get depressed. For Blade Runner, we tried our best to do as much as possible in-camera, building everything.”

I love it! Of course, this isn't going to be cheap for the studio, as Blade Runner 2049 is said to be one of the most expensive R-rated film ever made. He goes on to talk about the equilibrium he was trying to find while making the movie:

"I think the movie we are doing, we will need to find our own identity and territory, and at the same time be faithful and linked to the first project. It’s that equilibrium we are trying to find.”

Villeneuve has an impressive film resume, and from what I've seen and heard about Blade Runner 2049, it looks like he's gong to give Blade Runner fans the incredible sequel we're all hoping for. The Pressure is definitely on!  About that pressure the director says:

"I feel [the pressure] every day. At the same time, I’ve never been that inspired and excited. I love risk."

Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling are set to star in the film, and it's set to be released on October 6.

The New HALLOWEEN Film Is a Sequel Set After the Events of HALLOWEEN II

Last week, John Carpenter announced that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride will be writing and directing the next chapter in the Halloween horror franchise, and now we have some interesting new details that fans might actually flip over.

Carpenter said that Green and McBride shared their vision for the new movie with him and that their pitch blew them away. He went on to say that "they get it" and that he thinks audiences are "gonna dig it."

McBride recently talked to Cinemablend about the project, and he confirmed that it would be a sequel and that it will take place after 1981's Halloween II, which will keep the original “Night He Came Home” story element intact. McBride explained:

"You know, it’s not a remake. It’s actually, it’s gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we’re focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there."

As many of you already know, the original third Halloween film, Season of the Witch, had nothing to do with Michael Meyers and his story. It was a standalone film that I actually like regardless of the fact it has nothing to do with the rest of the franchise.

I'm happy with the fact that this new film will continue the story of the third one. This means that every Halloween film that's been released since part two won't even be acknowledged as having happened. As much as I enjoyed many of those films, I'm actually ok with that.

As many of you know, Green and McBride are best known for their comedic projects, but they plan on bringing the horror to their Halloween movie. McBride said:

"Green and I are definitely going to [do] a straight-up horror. Halloween has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. There's a simplicity and an efficiency to that first one that I think allows the movies just to be scary as hell. And so Green and I, our approach is to get back to that."

Awesome! That's exactly what I wanted to hear! It looks like Green and McBride are heading in the right direction for Halloween. It's going to be fun to see what they come up with. The film opens on October 18, 2018.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 Gets an Exciting New TV Spot with David Bowie's "Suffragette City"

0

Marvel has released another TV spot for James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and it features a song from David Bowie called "Suffragette City," which comes from the The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album. This is the second song from the album that was used in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. The first film features "Moonage Daydream," and it's good to see Gunn was able to get another song from that album like he was hoping. Gunn is a huge fan of Bowie, and he said this after the musician's passing:

"Bowie was an idol of mine, huge and omnipresent. Few artists in any field have had as an indelible impression upon me as he has. To my mind, Ziggy Stardust is perhaps the greatest rock and roll album of all time. We featured “Moonage Daydream” in Guardians, but I always thought the album’s character was felt far beyond that, in the aesthetics, in the integral and seemingly-natural linking in popular culture of ’70’s rock and space opera. I’ve been trying to work another song from Ziggy into the sequel, which would make Bowie the only artist to have a song on both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. I thought this was fair and appropriate. Although I cut the scene it was used in from the script, we have the rights. Who knows. Maybe I can figure a way out."

There are a few bits of new footage in the spot as well that feature Groot plugging Star-Lord’s Walkman into a couple of giant speakers behind him. Talking about the music in the film, Gunn previously said:

"[The music] is all off the tape. It’s all off of Volume 2. I would say that the other Guardians now know that music is a thing for Peter, so in early scenes, what you see baby Groot here - which he’s just ‘Groot’ in the movie, but on set we call him baby Groot - he’s setting up these little outer space speakers so that the music can play for all of them, because Quill likes to hear music when he’s fighting."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be released on May 5th. To catch up on all of our Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 news and watch the trailers that have been released, click here

Fan Art Features Rosario Dawson as STAR WARS Character Ahsoka Tano

Last week, actress Rosario Dawson made it known that she would be interested in taking on a live-action version of the Star Wars animated character Ahsoka Tano. The majority of fans seemed to agree that the casting would be awesome! Who knows if it will ever happen, but thanks to Boss Logic, we now have an idea of what she would look like as the character! As you'd imagine, she looks totally badass!

I have no idea if there are any plans to bring Ahsoka into the live-action Star Wars realm, but it definitely seems like something fans would love to see eventually happen. If it ever did happen, we know that Dawson would kick ass in the role.

Scarlett Johansson and Kevin Feige Think BLACK WIDOW Is Right for a Standalone Film

Marvel fans have been waiting to see if Marvel will actually ever move forward with a Black Widow solo film. She’s played a huge role in the MCU so far, but one day it would be nice to see a film put the focus on her. There are some great, intense, and exciting stories to tell with this character, and both Scarlett Johansson and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige think she’s right for a standalone film. There’s one big issue… timing.

While talking to Total Film, Johansson said:

“We’re creatively really compatible. I think we both agree that the character is right for a standalone, it’s just a case of timing at this point for both Marvel and myself.”

She went on to say that as of right now she and Marvel both have a lot going on:

“Marvel has a really huge roster. They’re looking four years ahead. I also have a lot of things that I want to do. If I did it, I would dedicate myself completely to making it amazing. It would have to be the best version that movie could possibly be. Otherwise, I would never do it.”

If a Black Widow movie were to happen it wouldn’t ever happen until after 2020. I’m sure Marvel would do something great with the character. She said:

“It’d have to be done the right way, though. It’d really have to be its own standalone and its own style and its own story. But there’s a lot of great stuff that you could do with it. It could just be awesome.”

Joss Whedon said that he would come back to Marvel to direct a Black Widow movie, so that would be a perfect starting point. I think Whedon could come up with a great story and do some awesome things with the character.

Hopefully one day the movie happens. In the meantime, we’ll be able to enjoy Black Widow kicking ass in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films.

This is Hot Toys' limited edition Suicide Squad Batman action figure. This Batman design has a much darker look and tone than the design we saw in Batman v Superman. As you'll see in the photos, the attention to detail on this thing is incredible, and it looks like it's awesomely posable, including the cape! This is definitely a Batman figure that I'd love to add to my collection. Here are the details:

Soon after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Dark Knight of Gotham emerges from the Batcave again in Suicide Squad, in which a number of incarcerated DC supervillains team up as Task Force X to stop an even worse threat. Making a special appearance in this anti-hero blockbuster, Batman does play a critical role in the story as he is responsible for putting some of these infamous baddies, such as Deadshot and Harley Quinn, behind bars in the first place.
Being huge fans of Batman ourselves, we are pleased to announce the new Hot Toys 1/6th scale collectible figure of Batman from Suicide Squad as a limited edition item only available in selected markets. The movie-accurate figure is expertly crafted based on the Caped Crusader's appearance in the film, featuring a masked head sculpt with 3 interchangeable eye pieces and lower faces, a body that highlights Batman's toned, muscular physique, meticulously detailed Batsuit equipped with a specially tailored wired cape allowing Batman to make stylish poses, a range of detailed Batman gadgets and weapons, and a Suicide Squad-themed dynamic figure stand perfect for aerial poses.

Keanu Reeves Delights Fans With BILL & TED 3 Story Details

0
0

I’m assuming everyone saw John Wick: Chapter 2 over the weekend. If you didn’t, what are you waiting for?! Go see it now. Lick your palms and tell your boss you have to go home, then hit up a daytime screening right now!

For those of you who did the right thing and saw the John Wick sequel the minute it opened, here’s a special treat: Keanu Reeves went on The Graham Norton Show to promote the film and dropped a little update on the long-simmering Bill & Ted 3, and even delighted fans by dropping his famous catchphrase. Asked about the sequel, Reeves said:

"The writers have a story, and we’re trying to make it."

When Norton asked where the characters are now, Reeves replied,

"Bill and Ted are in their 50s, and uh, that just makes me laugh right there."

Then he continued:

“There’s a cool story. Basically, they’re supposed to write a song to save the world, and they haven’t done that yet. So the pressure of having to save the world — their marriages are falling apart, their kids are kind of mad at them. But then someone comes from the future and tells them if they don’t write the song it’s just not the world, it’s the universe. So they have to save the universe because time is breaking apart. So then elements of the past are coming in...”

Then Whoopi Goldberg interrupted and asked if she could be in the movie, because probably she is sick of the other ladies on The View.

You can watch the full exchange below, but I am warning you: Do not get sucked down the Graham Norton YouTube clip rabbit hole, because that will be hours of your day gone and your boss really wants to know when you’re going to get him that report.

John Wick: Chapter 2 is in theaters now, and Bill & Ted 3 will hit theaters hopefully someday.

Awesome New Trailer for Scarlett Johansson's GHOST IN THE SHELL Features New Footage and Story Details

0
0

We've got another incredibly cool trailer for you to watch today for Scarlett Johansson's Ghost in the Shell! I'm totally stoked for this movie! It looks a lot better than I initially thought it was going to be when the project was first announced. Rupert Sanders helmed the film and as you can see he definitely brought his A-game when it comes to the stunning visuals. As far as the script and story goes, that has yet to been determined, but from what I've seen of the film up until this point... so far, so good.

This latest trailer offers a ton of new footage from the film and also dives deeper into the story that the Sanders and his team set out to tell.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic¹s advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell also stars Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche, “Beat” Takeshi Kitano, Michael Wincott, and Pilou Asbæk. It's set to be released in theaters on March 31, 2017.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Set Photo Offers Our First Look at the Klingons

A week ago a behind-the-scenes video was released for the upcoming series Star Trek: Discovery. In that video, the costumes for the Klingons were teased, which you can see above. Now, a photo has surfaced from the set of the film showing several of the actors all decked out in their Klingon makeup and gear.

The photo came from an extra on the set with the comment, "Hanging out with my new Klingon crew today on the set of the new #startrek." As you can see, the costumes they are wearing definitely match the costumes that were revealed in the behind-the-scenes video, so the photo seems legit.

As for the new look of the Klingons, they definitely have a different kind of look to them. None of them have hair, they have kind of have elongated heads, and the ridges on their heads go all the way down the back of their neck. It's definitely a definitely a crazy menacing look, which I kinda dig. What do you all think of the new Klingon design the series is going with?

Maisie Williams Seemingly Confirmed for X-MEN: THE NEW MUTANTS

0
0

There's been rumor and speculation for months, and now it looks as though Maisie Williams really is going to be a part of X-Men: The New Mutants. The update comes after the director of the film, Daniel Boone, tweeted the following image and tagged the young Game of Thrones actress:

The implication here is that Williams will be playing the mutant Wolfsbane, who can change into a full wolf or werewolf. Wolfsbane retains her human intellect in either form and was not bitten or anything to get this power...it's just mutant stuff, don't question it.

Williams has been asked about the project before, but couldn't say much other than she would be "excited" to join the project. I know we'd all love to see her in The New Mutants! Let's get some official confirmation here, Fox!

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Is the Best DC Film Since the DARK KNIGHT Trilogy

0

If you're a fan of the DC brand, then you need to get out there and watch The LEGO Batman Movie! This movie was fantastically made, and it's the best DC film that Warner Bros. has released since Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. I've even talked to some people who think it's even better than The Dark Knight Rises

That's right, The LEGO Batman Movie has better story, script, and character development than Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad. The team that made this movie actually has a strong understanding of the Batman and Joker characters, who they are, and their history. They understand what makes them tick.

If the team behind The LEGO Batman Movie can make this kind of movie with such a solidly great story, maybe they should be the ones brought in to develop the actual DCEU further. I was seriously blown away by what this film had to offer.

It was completely action-packed with lots of incredibly funny and adventurous scenes. But the thing that stuck out the most for me were the emotions and motivations of the characters. For a kids movie there were a lot of complex adult issues going on on that the main characters had to deal with.

Yeah, it was all wrapped up in a fun, over-exaggerated, hilarious animated LEGO package, but it was surprisingly deep, and if you're looking for a great solo Batman movie you don't have to wait for Ben Affleck to put on the cape and cowl again for The Batman. You can go see The LEGO Batman Movie right now and get one hell of a great moviegoing experience that Batman fans are going to love!

Laurence Fishburne Talks Turning Down JUSTICE LEAGUE and Says Marvel Is Kicking DC's Ass

0
0

Laurence Fishburne has a valid explanation why Perry White won't be in Justice League, and it looks like he's aiming for us never seeing him again! The actor gave an interview to the LA Times (via CBM) and said his not being in the film simply came down to conflicting schedules:

"They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise...And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern."

He makes a fair case, then drops a statement that is sure to reignite the rivalry between Marvel and DC fans for a couple days. The actor then took the time to address Batman v Superman in a fairly critical way:

"We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever."

While Fishburne does say Marvel is kicking ass, he states that he is, in fact, a fan of Zack Snyder and Batman V Superman

"Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it."

I didn't think the Martha stuff was heartwarming, and as far as I know the line was widely meme'd as one of the corniest bits of the movie. Sounds like Fishburne liked it though, but I wonder how DC is reacting to his quotes about Marvel. What would you think the odds are that we see him in another DC film?

JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2 Director Chad Stahelski Wants to Do a JAMES BOND Movie!

0
0

I don't know if you've seen John Wick: Chapter 2 yet, but I thought it was even better than the first film! That movie was so awesomely action-packed and completely hardcore. I even thought there was more substance to the story this time around.

Director Chad Stahelski did a hell of a job on the movie, and I'm super stoked to see what his future holds. One movie franchise that he'd like to take on is James Bond. As of right now, the next James Bond film is director-less. If producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli ask Stahelski to take on the gig, he wouldn't have a problem jumping on board. During an interview with MovieWeb the director said:

"I'm interested in projects where you can world create. To jump back into somebody else's world where it's already been around for so long would be scary. But if there was one property, that wouldn't be a bad one to try and invest yourself. Especially because of the ebb and flow of the Bond universe right now, I think the timing is good for a slight reinvention with a different perspective shift. Bond has gone from completely serious to totally cheeky to really fun again, to emotional, to serious, to internal, to external. I would love to give the pitch and if they got my wacky version of it, and it fit, yeah. That's almost a dream too big."

I would totally love to see a Bond movie directed by Stahelski! Who the hell wouldn't?! Especially after seeing what he's done with the John Wick franchise. He could bring a completely new and fresh vibe to the franchise and breathe some badass life into it again. After the last film Bond film, Spectre, I'd say the Bond franchise needs a change, and someone like Stahelski could give it that.

I have no idea if the producers of the Bond franchise would even ever entertain the idea of hiring Stahelski, but I don't think it would hurt to at least take a pitch meeting with him. What do you think of the idea of the John Wick filmmaker taking on the Bond franchise?

After watching these brief and pretty funny outtakes from Doctor Strange, I just have one question: Was that fart real? Or was it acting? I've watched it seven times now, and I still cannot tell if Benedict Cumberbatch is using his mouth or not! Did he throw his voice, was it post production or maybe even someone off camera? I feel like I need to know the answer, so let's tweet him nonstop until he confirms one way or another. Doctor Strange comes out on Blu-Ray tomorrow!

The first trailer for season three of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has arrived, and Titus is doing his best Beyonce! Season three of the series premieres May 19th!
