David Fincher Is "Very Creatively Interested in Directing" WORLD WAR Z 2, But the Studio Is Dragging Their Feet

Last year we learned that director David Fincher was in talks to direct Brad Pitt's World War Z 2. The film was supposed to be released this year, but Paramount Pictures yanked it from their schedule and is now looking to maybe release it in 2018 or 2019.

Regardless of the schedule shuffle, inside sources are saying Fincher really wants to do the project. One source says he's "very creatively interested in directing the movie." Another says, "He really would like to do it," but that "It's up to Paramount."

I think it's awesome that Fincher could end up directing World War Z 2! He's one of my favorite directors, and I would love to see what a Fincher zombie movie would look like. The first film was a surprising hit and I believe audiences would love to see a sequel, but for some reason, the studio is dragging their feet. Rule of thumb, you don't drag your feet on a film when a director like David Fincher wants to make the movie!

According to THR, "Fincher was looking to make the film about a man and his family navigating a zombie apocalypse," and he would have done this on a budget that is less than the original's $190 million. Seems like the kind of production with a lot of positive things going for it, so hopefully the studio can get it figured out quickly and move forward before Fincher decides he doesn't want to do it anymore.

DC's Diane Nelson Rocked a 10,000 Brick LEGO Batman Jacket

Here's a piece of gear that LEGO fans might go batty for: a custom LEGO jacket with Batman, The Joker, and the Batsignal on it. According to DC's blog (via io9), it was made by LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya for DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson to wear at this past weekend's premiere of The LEGO Batman Movie. We've featured Sawaya's work on the site a handful of times in the past, but I don't think we've ever seen him make an item of clothing before. While I don't necessarily think it'd be the most comfortable thing to put on, it definitely makes a statement. DC's blog states that this one-of-a-kind jacket took the artist 100 hours to create and consists of more than 10,000 bricks.

STAR WARS Land to Officially Open in Orlando in 2019

The 19-acre theme park that Disney has dedicated to the Star Wars saga will be completed in 2019. THR reports the park will be completed the same year as Star Wars Episode IX is set to be released. This Star Wars Land is planned for the Disney location in Orlando, which means we will have two Star Wars parks in the nation with the other being in Anaheim, California. Not much is known about the park other than the press release stating that visitors will have the opportunity to pilot the Millennium Falcon.

I'm super excited! I had previously laid out plans to make a trip to California when their park opened, but why would I go to the B+ Disney park when I'm closer to the awesome Orlando experience! Anyone else gonna start saving for this pilgrimage?

Following yesterday's awesome trailer for Marvel's Iron Fist, Netflix has released the first clip from the series, and it's a good one! The clip focuses on Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), who puts her martial arts skills to the test in a cage fight, where she brutally beats the shit out of two hardcore, burly dudes. Colleen is definitely someone you don't want to mess with!

Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.

The series also stars David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, and Rosario Dawson. Marvel's Iron Fist premieres March 17, 2017 exclusively on Netflix.

This Figure Combines TOY STORY Characters Into a POWER RANGERS-Style Megazord

Have you ever wondered what Toy Story's Woody, Ham, Slinky, Rex, and Bullseye would look like if they joined forces into a massive, Power Rangers-esque Megazord? Me neither, but apparently the people at ThinkGeek did, because they've created a figure that allows you to put all of those characters together into what they're calling a "Toy Story Banzai Chogokin Combination Woody Robo Sheriff Star Figure." (See if you can say that five times fast.)

I'm not really sure why this exists (other than the typical response of "because the internet"), but it definitely does, and if you're willing to part with $159.99, it can be yours forever. Or at least until you get tired of it and decide to leave it in a box behind a donations van. You monster! Didn't you learn anything from Jessie's heartbreaking history?! I can't believe you were thinking of donating this thing. You better keep it for as long as you live.

Marvel Is Happy to Leave Their Villain Problem Unsolved

$

The most consistent and accurate criticism of Marvel’s film output is that they lack compelling villains, but the studio don’t seem to mind. On a recent visit to the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige addressed the issue with reporters. He told io9:

“It always starts with what serves the story the most and what serves the hero the most. A big criticism of ours is that we focus on the heroes more than the villains, I think that’s probably true.”

That’s a clever reframing of the issue, and it’s also a rather Aristotelian view of drama that I don’t happen to share. I'd rather let the characters drive the story than let the needs of the plot define the characters. But they are superhero movies and they tend to be pretty plot-driven, so I won’t argue it. I do think that one reason Marvel’s Netflix series are so good is that they spend so much time developing the villains, but that is probably neither here nor there. Feige’s here to talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and he says it’s another case of slightly mundane villains, although that’s probably not the word he would use.

“Taserface and Ayesha [the antagonists of Vol.2] are less grandiose in their ambitions than Ronan was, for instance. Ayesha just wants to kill them for slighting her, and Taserface wants to lead the Ravagers and thinks that Yondu got soft.”

Feige continued:

“In 2008, two superhero movies that came out. One focused on the villain, one focused on the hero, and we at Marvel looked at them, like ‘Yeah, we focus on the heroes. We don’t mind that. We like that.’”

In case you don’t have the entire timeline of superhero movies memorized, the two superhero movies of 2008 were Iron Man, Marvel Studios’ first film, and The Dark Knight, maybe the greatest superhero movie ever made. Feige quickly realized that little bit could be taken out of context:

“Please don’t start a flame war. Nobody wants that. We don’t do that. But, again, it really always is what serves the story.”

As we learned yesterday, Thanos will be a big enough presence in Avengers: Infinity War that he could be considered the main character, which is an interesting change of pace for Marvel, and one that I hope they can pull off. Given that there are approximately 7000 superheroes suiting up for that one, centering the film on the villain may be the only way to tell a coherent story, which is what Marvel says they are always there to serve, so maybe it’s not such a change of pace after all.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be in theaters May 5. Avengers: Infinity War is currently in production and will come to theaters near you on May 4, 2018.

In honor of the awesome John Wick: Chapter 2 (read my review here), the team over at RocketJump has created a funny video called Dog Wick that serves as a parody of the first film in the franchise. Instead of the dog getting murdered, John himself gets capped this time, which leads his dog to go on a blood-soaked revenge-spree. Yep, it's just as ridiculous as it sounds. Check it out:

The first trailer for Bill Nye's Netflix series Bill Nye Saves The World is here, and it looks surprisingly badass! I was expecting the series to be more in line with his first show on television, but I love this new, modernized look! It looks like science fans will be treated to live demonstrations, guests stars, and people walking on fire. I'm certainly down to watch it, are you?

Bill Nye Saves The World comes to Netflix April 21st.

Nashville Is Building a '60s Retro Indoor Drive In

It's a logical contradiction...and not a bad idea!. Slashfilm says Nashville, Tennessee is planning the world's first "Indoor Drive-In" that will blast you back to the '60s. Patrons will enter the indoor facility and purchase tickets to a film. They'll then be ushered to their seats, which will be repurposed classic cars from the era! Around you, you'll see fireflies, old housing, live music, bars and trees which will all simulate the experience that you are outside watching a film at the drive-in. It's one of those weird experiences within an experience where there will be simulated noise and stars above the domed facility. It actually sounds pretty awesome!

At first, I thought this was going to be where people would drive their cars into a dome and watch a film without having to worry about sunlight. I was like "uh, that's great until people die from carbon monoxide poisoning," even though I'd have to think that dome would be big enough to prevent any real disaster. The project has no timetable for completion, but if it's successful you can bet we're going to see more locations popping up around the world!

Fantastically Eerie Trailer for the Horror Film IT COMES AT NIGHT with Joel Edgerton

Ladies and gentlemen, fans of the horror genre! I've got an insanely great trailer here for you to watch for a new horror film called It Comes at Night. I have no idea if this is going to be a good movie or what the story really entails, but this trailer is so good and awesomely unsettling.

The movie stars Joel Edgerton and was directed by Trey Edward Shults, who previously made the critically acclaimed Krisha. This trailer definitely sparked my interest and excitement, and I can't wait to see the movie. Here's the synopsis for the film, which is also vague:

A man (Joel Edgerton) learns that the evil stalking his family home may be only a prelude to horrors that come from within.
Secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world, the tenuous domestic order he has established with his wife and son is put to the ultimate test with the arrival of a desperate young family seeking refuge.
Despite the best intentions of both families, paranoia and mistrust boil over as the horrors outside creep ever-closer, awakening something hidden and monstrous within him as he learns that the protection of his family comes at the cost of his soul.

The movie is set to be released on August 25. Now, watch the trailer and share what you think about it in the comments below!

Kaecilius Kills Priest and Stephen Strange Help's a Dog in DOCTOR STRANGE Deleted Scenes

A deleted scene from Doctor Strange shows villain Kaecilius killing a priest in a church. Considering the amount of work put into the scene, I would wager that this scene was cut just shortly before post-production started...I'm guessing to avoid controversy. I think including the scene would have done more to show Kaecilius as an evil man, as he seemed more lighthearted than most Marvel villains. I also included a scene featuring Stephen Strange helping a dog, so he wasn't such a big jerk after all. Check out the clips below!

EW has released the cover for their upcoming issue featuring the young actors of Stranger Things Season 2. Those actors include Millie Bobby Brown, who's sporting a new hairstyle, Galan Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp. They also talked to the cast and crew of the series who discuss the expectations of season 2 and the new challenges that face them as they develop it.

The first season of this series started out so strong, and Matarazzo jokes, "I always joke around with [show creators the Duffer Bro.], ‘Why couldn’t you make the first season just okay?’ It’s like how they never expected Barb to be a hit — they never expected the show to be as successful."

Now the show is a success, and they are in a difficult position where fans are expecting more greatness. They have to try and top what they did in season one. David Harbour, who plays Sheriff Hopper in the series, says, "It’s really permeated the culture. People love the characters so much, and they have such an emotional response."

When talking about dealing with the challenges of developing season two, executive producer Shawn Levy says, "That is the new challenge of season two: quieting the cultural noise that surrounds our show." Good luck with that! Co-creator Ross Duffer goes on to add:

“It’s a balance of the comfort you’re familiar with but then trying to take it in new directions. That’s what we’re trying to strike with season 2.”

I have a feeling this team is going to be able to pull off some great things with season two, things that will once again blow the minds of their fans. They seem to have a solid idea of what they want to accomplish. Stranger Things season two consists of nine episode that will premiere on Netflix on Halloween, October 31, 2017.

Netflix Announces a CASTLEVANIA TV Series Coming in 2017!

The hit video game franchise Castlevania is being developed as a TV series by Netflix! The news was tucked away in a press release from Netflix that simply said:

Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017

There are no details beyond that. I assume that this the same animated Castlevania project that was reportedly going into development about a month ago. Producer Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents and producer for Adventure Time) previously said:

"We have a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going."

After a little research, it was revealed that Seibert owned the rights to Castlevania, and then prior to the statement above, Dredd producer Adi Shankar already broke the news:

Breaking News: I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.

This Netflix series is most likely the same project, so I guess fans can expect to see an ultra-violent and dark Castlevania series later this year! Castlevania was one of my favorite video games to play when I was growing up. I have a nostalgic connection to it, and I can't wait to see how this new series turns out.

STAR WARS is Getting a Spoof Film Called STAR WORLDS From the SCARY MOVIE Franchise Directors

The filmmaking team behind the Scary Movie franchise, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, are currently developing a Star Wars spoof film called Star Worlds: Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens The Last Jedi Who Went Rogue. If you're a fan of Star Wars and those ridiculous spoof films that these guys have made over the years, then I guess this next film of theirs is a dream come true?

I haven't really cared for most of the films that Friedberg and Seltzer have made. I'm sure this new Star Worlds film is sure to be just as absurd as what they've done in the past. I will admit that there are some funny moments in these films, but they just aren't my thing. The internet has got plenty of funny Star Wars parodies that I can watch for free. Oh yeah, don't forget! There's also Mel Brooks 1987 Star Wars spoof Spaceballs. There's no way Star Worlds will be as good as that!

The producer of the film Covert Media’s CEO Paul Hanson (District 9) had this to say in a statement:

"Jason and Aaron are a powerhouse duo who have proven time and time again that they are fully tapped into the what audiences love. Their fearless take on pop culture has us beyond thrilled to tackle the world’s most popular franchise with the two of them leading us into a galaxy far, far away."

The film is currently in pre-production and scheduled to shoot in the fall. What do you all think about the Scary Movie spoof guys taking on the Star Wars franchise?

Trailer for DC Animation's TEEN TITANS: THE JUDAS CONTRACT Will Show You the Greater Good

If you enjoyed last year's Justice League Vs. Teen Titans, you're gonna want to check out this first trailer for DC Animation's Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. The film is based on the New Teen Titans story arc by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

The story centers on the young psychopath Tara Markov, who is seduced and trained by Deathstroke to infiltrate the Teen Titans and tear them apart from within. Here's a brief story description:

Deathstroke the Terminator has a long held grudge against the Titans relating to the death of his son Grant Wilson the original Ravager. In order to fulfill this grudge he seduces a 15 year old with the extraordinary ability to command the very earth to her will.

This is definitely one of the more shocking Teen Titan storylines. If you've read it, then you know how it all ends, but I won't spoil it here for anyone that doesn't know. The animated film looks like a decent adaptation of the story as Deathstroke hunts down the Teen Titans.

I do have to say, though, that the animation quality of these films just seems to get worse and worse. They're still fun to watch, though.

Harry Potter and Voldemort have always had their fates tied, but who would know that deep-seeded hatred would develop into passionate love? Netflix Releases an Announcement Video for THE OA Part II

Did you watch the first season of Netflix's series The OA? If not, you should give it a shot. I found it to be a great series that was incredibly unexpected and fascinating. Yeah, it was really strange in some places, but that's one of the things I liked about it. Then there was the ending, which I didn't see coming at all. Some people found it controversial. I won't get into it just in case you haven't seen it yet.

Netflix recently released a video announcing that The OA Part II is coming. There's no information on any plot developments of Part II or even when they plan on releasing it. They just say it's coming soon.

The OA was created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij (Sound of My Voice and The East), and it was produced by Brad Pitt

The series tells "a powerful, mind-bending tale about identity, human connection, and the borders between life and death." It follows a character named Prairie Johnson (Marling), "a missing blind woman who finally returns to her family after seven years with her sight restored. Though Prairie is said to 'remember everything,' she refuses to talk about what happened to her during her time away from home, leaving viewers to contemplate what exactly befell her all those years ago."

You should definitely check out The OA if you haven't already. I'm happy to see that the story will continue in a second season.
