We're close enough to the release of The LEGO Batman Movie that I was hesitant about watching any other promotional materials from the film in fear of ruining any more of the movie's funny moments in advance. (As you know, comedies tend to feature many of their best jokes in the trailers.) But thankfully, The LEGO Batman Movie marketing team has commissioned an entirely separate video from the animators that humorously promotes the movie while not featuring any footage from it. They've created an episode of a fake show called "Gotham Cribs," which gives us a tour of Wayne Manor hosted by Batman/Bruce Wayne (Will Arnett), and /Film confirmed with the studio that none of this footage appears in the movie.
I realize it's not necessarily practical for studios to do stuff like this (pay animators for extra work that doesn't appear in the final feature), but I wish they'd take this advertising tack more often. Sell the idea and the tone of the movie without giving away the best parts — it's a win-win for the audience! In any case, I'm definitely looking forward to The LEGO Batman Movie, which hits theaters on February 10, 2017. Are you?

Peter Jackson has been developing a feature film adaptation of Philip Reeve’s sci-fi/fantasy Mortal Engines since he acquired the rights to the book series back in 2001. Jackson wrote the script with Fran Walsh, and they are also both set to produce the feature.
The movie will be directed by Christian Rivers, who was a visual effects artist for many of Jackson's movies such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. The project is now moving forward with the addition of the first two cast members that includes Robbie Sheehan (Fortitude) in a lead role and Ronan Raftery (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) in a supporting role. There's no information on who exactly these actors are playing, but here's a brief story summary:
The book is set thousands of years in the future. Earth’s cities now roam the globe on huge wheels, devouring each other in a struggle over diminishing resources. On one of these massive Traction Cities, Tom Natsworthy has an unexpected encounter with a mysterious young woman from the Outlands, who will change the course of his life forever.
Mortal Engines is said to be the first film in a planned franchise that will be based on the four novels in the series that also includes Predator’s Gold, Infernal Devices, and A Darkling Plain.
Production on the film is scheduled to start in New Zealand this spring, and the film is set to hit theaters on December 14, 2018.

Mark Hamill has had a very successful career as a voiceover artist, and it all started with The Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. Hamill now lends his voice to a completely different character in the DC Universe as Swamp Thing in the Justice League Action series.
In the clip for the upcoming episode "Zombie King," we see Swamp Thing get into a fight with Solomon Grundy. I don't know if you've been watching this series or not, but there are aspects of it that I like. It's not the greatest animated series, but it's got some fun moments.
The voice cast for the series also includes Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill pulling double duty as the Joker, James Woods as Lex Luthor, Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold, Sean Astin as Shazam, Rachel Kimsey as Wonder Woman, Jason J. Lewis as Superman, Chris Diamantopoulos as Green Arrow, and Josh Keaton as Green Lantern.

Kevin Sorbo is joining the cast of Supergirl! He will be playing a mysterious villain who will be a recurring character on the series. There's no information on who exactly he'll be playing, but the crew is excited to have him on board. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said.
“Since his days as Hercules, Kevin Sorbo has brought such a strong presence to the screen, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him join us on Supergirl."
The site also mentions that whoever this character is, he is an antihero, so that narrows things down a bit. He could be a human or an alien. We'll just have to wait and see what The CW series has in store for us. It's always fun to see Sorbo pop up in these kinds of shows!
The news comes shortly after it was announced that Teri Hatcher will be joining the series as another unknown villain. The network obviously doesn't like revealing the important details! They just love to tease their fans.

"My name is Offred and I intend to survive."
Hulu has released an intense Super Bowl spot for their new series The Handmaid's Tale. The series stars Elisabeth Moss, and we get a taste of her determination to survive and defiance against the system in this latest spot.
Even though this looks like it's going to be a great series, it doesn't seem like the Super Bowl audience is the kind of audience that is going to watch this show, but who knows, maybe I'm wrong!
Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized ‘return to traditional values'. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate the world. In this terrifying society, Offred must navigate between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.
Hulu will release the 10-episode series on Wednesday, April 26. To watch the first trailer for the series, click here.

Temura Morrison, the man who played Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequels, is in talked to join James Wan's Aquaman. According to THR, if he's cast, he will take on the role of Aquaman's human father.
Earlier this week we learned that Nicole Kidman is in talks to play Aquaman's mother Atlanna, so it seems like Warner Bros. and Wan are on the verge of locking down Aquaman's parents.
In the comics, Aquaman's father was Tom Curry, a lighthouse keeper. Atlanna left the kingdom of Atlantis to be with him because she loved him and together they had Arthur, a.k.a. Aquaman, who grows up to be a bridge between the two worlds of land and sea. Tom educated Arthur and taught him to control his powers.
Morrison joins Jason Momoa as Aquaman; Amber Heard as Mera; Willem Dafoe as Aquaman’s advisor, scientist Dr. Vulko; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; and Patrick Wilson, who will play Orm, a villain who is also Aquaman’s half-brother.
Aquaman (Momoa) is the King of the Seven Seas. Leader of Atlantis, he is caught between the surface world constantly ravaging the seas and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt. Aquaman is committed to protecting the entire world. This film is part of WB’s shared DC cinematic universe.
The movie is set to be released on October 5th, 2018.

Netflix has revealed the first official photo from Stranger Things season two, and it's awesomely nostalgic in every way! It features Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) dressed up as Ghostbusters at school and Dustin is looking a bit concerned about something.
Stranger Things season two is set in 1984, which is one year after the events of the first season. For the most part, the plot has been kept under wraps, but a few things have been discussed by the people involved with the show, which you can check out here.
The photo comes from EW, and executive producer Shawn Levy teased, “The Demogorgon was destroyed but evil wasn’t." There's also going to be a teaser trailer that airs during the Super Bowl this weekend, so stay tuned for that!

After seeing a couple incredibly badass trailers for Logan, we have a new synopsis for you to check out that offers up lots of new details about the story. The new synopsis comes from the Berlin Film Festival, which is where Logan is set to make its world premiere. It was also revealed that the run time for Logan is 135 minutes.
The synopsis confirms some things regarding X-23's history in the X-Men universe. If you don't know what that history is, you might not want to read the synopsis. I'm going to throw up a spoiler warning because there are a lot of spoiler sensitive souls out there. I personally don't think there are any spoilers here, but... just in case:
In 2024 the mutant population has shrunk significantly and the X-Men have disbanded. Logan, whose power to self-heal is dwindling, has surrendered himself to alcohol and now earns a living as a chauffeur. He takes care of the ailing old Professor X whom he keeps hidden away. One day, a female stranger asks Logan to drive a girl named Laura to the Canadian border. At first he refuses, but the Professor has been waiting for a long time for her to appear. Laura possesses an extraordinary fighting prowess and is in many ways like Wolverine. She is pursued by sinister figures working for a powerful corporation; this is because her DNA contains the secret that connects her to Logan. A relentless pursuit begins … In this third cinematic outing featuring the Marvel comic book character Wolverine we see the superheroes beset by everyday problems. They are aging, ailing and struggling to survive financially. A decrepit Logan is forced to ask himself if he can or even wants to put his remaining powers to good use. It would appear that in the near-future, the times in which they were able to put the world to rights with razor sharp claws and telepathic powers are now over.
So, that's it! As you can see, it confirms that they are sticking with X-23's original background in which she is a clone of Logan, whose DNA was used to create her. There are also a few other things in that synopsis that I'm sure you noticed that you might not have known before. This is definitely the most detailed synopsis yet.
Logan hits theaters on March 3rd!

Marvel has announced the cast of its upcoming Hulu series The Runaways, and it includes six young actors I'm not familiar with at all. Below you'll find photos of each actor along with a description of the character that they'll be playing in the series. Before we get to that, here's a brief plot summary that they offered:
Every teenager thinks their parents are evil. What if you found out they actually were? “Marvel’s Runaways” is the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe–their parents.
When talking about the cast that they've gathered together for this series, Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, said:
"The fun and chemistry that this group of talented actors create is wonderful and we’re so excited to bring these beloved characters to life."
Runaways comic co-creator and series executive consultant Brian K. Vaughn added:
"I’m so excited for fans of the comic to watch this perfect cast of amazing actors, all of whom embody the spirit of their characters more than I ever could have imagined."
I don't know what to expect from this series, but I'm hoping that it turns out to be a great series.
Rhenzy Feliz (Teen Wolf, Casual) as Alex Wilder is a loud-and-proud nerd. Admittedly a bit of a loner, Alex spends much of his free-time playing video games, but deep down, what he wants most is to reunite his childhood group of friends.
Lyrica Okano (The Affair, Unforgettable) Nico Minoru–tough, intelligent, and independent–embodies teenage angst. A budding “Wiccan,” Nico’s carefully crafted goth appearance isolates her from her peers and family, but maybe what she really needs is someone to talk to.
Virginia Gardner (Goat, Little Bitches) as Karolina Dean, model-perfect exterior with a lot going on behind her professionally whitened smile, is burdened by the lofty expectations and responsibilities put upon her by her parents. Underneath her veneer of privilege and perfection, Karolina is experiencing a newfound eagerness to explore her identity and pursue her own desires.
Ariela Barer (New Girl, One Day at a Time) as Gert Yorkes is a purple-haired, bespectacled, contemporary riot grrrl. Never passing up a moment to stand on a soapbox, Gert sometimes wields her persona as a brash social justice warrior to mask her true feelings.
Gregg Sulkin (Faking It, Don’t Hang Up, Anti Social) as Chase Stein is a lacrosse-playing, high school heartthrob. While many write him off as a dumb jock, Chase exhibits flashes of untapped brilliance in engineering, not unlike his wildly successful father’s.
Allegra Acosta (100 Things to do Before High School, Just Add Magic) as Molly Hernandez, the youngest and most innocent member of her friend group, is known for her peppy positivity and a deep yearning to belong.

Trolls director Mike Mitchell is set to helm Warner Bros. Animation's The LEGO Movie sequel. Rob Schrab was previously attached to direct the movie, but he ended up dropping out of the project due to "creative differences."
I'm not sure what to think about Mitchell directing this sequel because I hated Trolls so much. My kids wanted to see it, and it was like torture. He's also the director behind films such as Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, Sky High, Shrek Forever After, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. So, I can't say I'm thrilled that he's coming on board to direct The LEGO Movie.
With the original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being the producers of the sequel and having written an early draft of the script, hopefully that's enough to carry the film into awesome status. Lord and Miller are just way too busy to direct it themselves. They just started directing the Han Solo film!
What do you all think of Mitchell being the director of The LEGO Movie sequel? Do you think a guy with his film resume will be able to live up to the standard of hilariously fun comedy set by Lord and Miller?

The Iron Giant is my number one favorite animated film of all time. It's just a perfect all-around film. Well, The Iron Giant is back and he's wreaking havoc in the world of Fallout 4! This is a really cool mod for the game that was created by Matthew Swanton. Yeah, it might not be the friendly and loving robot from space that we came to love in the movie, but it's still fun to see him causing absolute chaos.

As the Broadway musical sensation Hamilton continues to sweep the nation, creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has released eight original early demo tracks, sketches, and drafts he created while writing the musical. These are tracks that have been never released before to the public, so if you're a fan of the musical, then these tracks are worth checking out.
The tracks include Included are "Say No To This," "Guns & Ships," "Congratulations," "Your Obedient Servant," "The Story of Tonight," "Satisfied," "Right Hand Man," and "My Shot." I love it when artists share early versions of their work like this.

Earlier this week, we got our first look at Nerf's Rival Nemesis MXVII-10K gun. We now have our first look at their badass Doomlands Blaster called The Judge, and it is the law! This thing is insane!
The giant orange barrel features a rotating cylinder that holds 10 sets of triple dart holders. It fires three darts at a time like a big-ass shotgun. This might just be Nerf's coolest and most intimidating looking gun yet, and I want it!

I love Mary-Louise Parker, and she's landed another solid TV role. She has joined the cast of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes series. The story follows "a demented killer (Penny Dreadful's Harry Treadaway) who taunts a retired police detective (Brendan Gleeson) with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again."
Parker will have a recurring role in the series as a character named Janey Patterson, described as "the younger sister of the late Olivia Trelawney. Janey's no-nonsense but charming attitude radiates, as does her physical beauty. She's emotionally mature, strong-willed and totally winning."
This seems like a perfect role for Parker to take on, and there's no doubt she'll be awesome in it. Anton Yelchin was set to star in the series as the villain before his tragic, untimely death. Parker joins a cast that also includes Holland Taylor, Kelly Lynch, and Moonlight's Jharrel Jerome.
I love the stories that Stephen King tells, and this is one of the few books that I haven't read yet. Jack Bender (Lost, Under the Dome) an executive producer on the series, and he will also direct the pilot episode from a script written by showrunner David E. Kelley.
I loved King’s most recent series, 11.22.63, on Hulu, and I'm excited for his new series, The Mist, which is currently in development at Spike TV. Mr. Mercedes is set to premiere sometime in this fall on DirectTV and AT&T U-verse.
