I've got some cool photos featuring two cosplayers doing their own take on Gwenom, which is a Spider-Gwen and Venom mashup. The cosplay is based on piece of fan art created by Jamie Tyndall

Each of the cosplays below were done by Heather Rage, whose costume has red lenses, and Elise Laurenne, whose costume has white lenses. They have done their own version of this cosplay. It's pretty cool to see the different takes on this one costume pattern.

Director M. Night Shyamalan Kept the Sequel Rights to All His Films Just in Case

There's been a lot of news regarding M. Night Shyamalan recently because of his hit film Split, which awesomely set up a sequel to his grounded superhero film Unbreakable. During an interview with Cinemablend, the director revealed that he maintains control of the rights to all of his movies. That's right, all of his movies could technically have sequels, and if it happens, Shyamalan is the only one that has the power to pull the trigger. He explained:

Luckily I took care of all the right stuff. I had it all arranged, and everyone was fantastic about it, and everything like that. So it worked out great on that front. I kind of own the sequel rights to all my movies; not own, but nobody can make a sequel to my movies without permission. I gave up whatever I needed to give up to make sure I had those over time, because I figured 20 something years from now, I’m going to be pretty upset if [someone made a sequel without my involvement].

That was definitely a smart move on his part. I don't really care for the majority of Shyamalan's films, but the thought of a sequel to The Sixth Sense is interesting. I seriously doubt it will ever happen, though. That film is perfect as a standalone movie.

The only movie with true franchise potential is Unbreakable, and I'm excited to see where he takes it now that he's set up the villain who has multiple personalities and can transform himself into a beast. It's going to be really cool to see Bruce Willis' David Dunn take on that dude. Samuel L. Jackson's Mr. Glass will be a part of that story as well!

It's funny, when I saw Split in the theater, when Willis showed up at the end over half the people in the theater didn't get understand why he was there because they had never seen Unbreakable... sad. It seems like I was the only one who was like, "HELL YEAH!!!"

Trailer for Lifetime's Britney Spears Movie BRITNEY EVER AFTER

Lifetime has released the first trailer for their upcoming Britney Spears movie Britney Ever After. It focuses on the pop star's rise to fame, the point where she hit rock bottom, and then how she pulled herself out of the rut she found herself in and back into the spotlight. These Lifetime movies are ridiculous, but people sure do love to watch them.

Britney Jean Spears was just a young girl from Louisiana trying to make a name for herself in the music scene when her talent became undeniable to all those around her. While handlers soon began planning her every move, Britney found solace with fellow pop singer Justin Timberlake. Tragically, as Britney’s star continued to shine, her private life crumbled after the divorce of her parents and her tabloid breakup with Justin. Her personal behavior soon eclipsed her pop icon success as a quickie marriage to childhood friend and later, an ill-fated marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, became the talk of the world. With her life spiraling out of control, Britney hit rock bottom, lost custody of her sons and was placed under her father’s conservatorship. But despite her past troubles, Britney has battled back to rebuild her career to its former glory, proving to everyone that she’s a timeless force in entertainment.

Britney is played by Natasha Bassett in the film, and I'm sure fans will want to check it out. Britney Ever After premieres on February 18th.

Sundance Review: The All Female Director Horror Anthology XX Was a Big Disappointment

$

0

I love horror movie anthologies, so I was looking forward to seeing the film XX. What made this whole horror anthology unique was the fact that the four short films that make up the movie were all written and directed by female filmmakers.

I liked what I saw in the trailer that was released, which I included for you below to watch, but unfortunately, the movie was a huge disappointment. I wasn't impressed with the series of films that made up the anthology.

One of the four shorts was "The Birthday Party," directed by Annie Clark, and it was the only one I kinda liked because it had some humor. It still didn't make any sense, though. A dad dies right before his kids birthday party and his wife tries to hide the body from them for some reason.

Another short was called "The Box," directed by Sofia Carrillo. I hated this short because it had no ending or conclusion. It centered on a young boy who asked to look in a box that an old man was holding on a train. The man showed him what was in the box and then afterward completely stopped eating because he was never hungry. We never find out why.

The there's the film "Don't Fall," which was directed by Jovanka Vuckovic, and it was a horror movie cliche that we've seen a hundred times before. A group of friends go camping to hang out and then one of them is possessed by a Native American demon and goes on a killing spree. The one thing I liked about this one was the creature design, but the story lacked substance.

The last film in the anthology is called "Her Only Living Son," helmed by Roxanne Benjamin. This was another kind of horror movie we've seen a hundred times before as it involves a mom who has been unknowingly raising the spawn of Satan. There was nothing about this short that was interesting.

None of the stories they told were very good. There was really nothing unique or original about them, and each of the shorts was like a mediocre student film. I hoped that they would've given us some better stories that hadn't been done to death in the horror genre. or at least these should have been well made.

I know there are some extremely talented female directors out there, and some of these directors have done decent work in the past, but they didn't bring the horror movie awesomeness to this anthology.

Video Breakdown of Movie Special Effects That Didn't Use CGI

video-breakdown-of-movie-special-effects-that-didnt-use-cgi

CG special effects are just the way things are done in movies these days. Sometimes there are scenes that are just too big and elaborate to do without the help of CG effects. Sometimes, though, a filmmaker will figure out how to do it without the help of CG, and those scenes turn out even more badass, in most cases.

I've got a great video here from Looper that breaks down several scenes from movies that didn't rely on the CG effects to make them happen. It's called "Movie Special Effects You'd Never Guess Aren't CGI," and this is the description that came along with the video:

Computer-generated effects are ubiquitous in Hollywood, so when something amazing happens on screen, audiences usually assume they're seeing a digital fantasy. But despite the surge in CGI, some directors are still committed to doing special effects the old-fashioned way, before today's digital wizardry existed. From puppets to prosthetics to old-school camera tricks, we've rounded up some of the most insane scenes you'll never believe were created without computers...

I'm sure you were already familiar with many of the effects listed in the video, but they do offer a great breakdown and some commentary on them, which makes it worth watching.

Artist Glen Brogan is the creator of this wonderful and dazzling Catwoman art. I love the slick, retro-like look of the character. I checked out some of his other pieces as well, and I think he has a fun and playful style. I added a few other pieces below as well featuring Batgirl and another version of Catwoman, both of which are really cool.

Our friends at Sneaky Zebra have created an incredibly cool fan-made announcement teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While we wait for another trailer to be released for the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, here's a cool new poster and promo teaser that you can check out. The teaser features Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi, and it teases one of the many alterations that have been made to her.

It seems like fans are actually warming up to this movie. I've been seeing more positive conversations about it online than negative. I grew up on this franchise, I'm a huge fan, and I'm excited to see more of what director Rupert Sanders has done with adapting this story for the big screen.

The story follows the Major, "a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology."

Ghost in the Shell is set to be released on March 31st.

Anime artist Thomas Romain has created a wonderful series of character designs that are based on original drawings created by his two sons. He calls this little series of his the “Father and Sons Design Workshop,” and it's pretty incredible to see him bring the full vision of his sons designs to life like this. His kids have gotta be loving this. It also is encouraging them to use their imaginations.

Wu-Tang Clan's RZA Directed an Episode of Marvel's IRON FIST

Earlier this week the titles of the episodes of Marvel's Iron Fist was released, and each one was accompanied by the name of a director. The only episode that didn't have a director's name attached to it was one called "Immortal Emerges From Cave," Now, thanks to actor Finn Jones, we know that the episode was directed by Wu-Tang Clan's RZA. During an Extra live Q&A, Jones revealed:

"So before I started the role, I actually made a playlist on my iPod of songs that Danny Rand would listen to. It’s a lot of kind of '90s hip-hop like De La Soul, Jurassic 5, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan. Like that kind of music is really what Danny’s jamming to. And we actually feature that in the series. And actually, one of our episodes was directed by the RZA himself. Episode 6. So, yeah, there’s very close ties to hip-hop music and the Iron Fist series."

When asked what it was like working with RZA, the actor said:

"Oh, he's a dude. He's a complete dude. Actually really sweet but chill. He has a really good vision of what he wants. He understands that martial arts genre."

In case you didn't get that, RZA is quite the dude. RZA made his directorial debut in 2012 with The Man with the Iron Fists, which wasn't a great movie, but it was fun and entertaining. I'm sure he'll do some fun things with his Iron Fist episode. I think this is going to be a great series, and I'm excited to see how the story unfolds.

Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting his world around him with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

The cast also features Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones) as Colleen Wing, David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers) as Harold Meachum, Jessica Stroup (The Following) as Joy Meachum, Tom Pelphrey (Banshee) as Ward Meachum, and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) as Jeri Hogarth.

The Coen Bros. Directed a Mercedes Super Bowl Commercial Called EASY RIDER, Check it Out!

Joel and Ethan Coen directed a great Super Bowl commercial for the Mercedes AMG GT roadster. It features Peter Fonda and Steppenwolf's classic song "Born to be Wild." The ad was obviously inspired by the classic 1969 film Easy Rider, which starred Fonda. The Coen Bros. are two of my favorite filmmakers working in Hollywood today, and it's pretty cool to see them jump in to make a Super Bowl ad like this.

Riding on the open road with Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild" playing in your head. How do you make this experience any better? Hint: The legendary Peter Fonda might have an idea. Watch Peter Fonda come back for one more epic ride – this time with The Coen Brothers.

I hope you enjoy what they've come up with for this.

James Cameron on the ALIEN Franchise - “I Don’t Think It’s Worked Out Terribly Well”

$

I think we can all agree that Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens are incredible films in their own right. Every Alien film that’s been made since Cameron’s 1986 film has been mediocre at best. There have been opportunities to do great things with this franchise over the years, but filmmakers, including Scott, have dropped the ball.

Even Cameron hasn’t been impressed with any of the films since he released Aliens. While talking to Vulture, the filmmaker was asked how he feels about the upcoming film Alien: Covenant, and this is what he said:

“The franchise has kind of wandered all over the map. Ridley [Scott] did the first film, and he inspired an entire generation of filmmakers and science-fiction fans with that one movie and there have been so many films that stylistically have derived from it, including my own Aliens, which was the legitimate sequel and, I think, the proper heir to his film. I sort of did it as a fanboy. I wanted to honor his film, but also say what I needed to say. After that, I don't take any responsibility.
“I don't think it's worked out terribly well. I think we've moved on beyond it. It's like, okay, we've got it, we've got the whole Freudian biomechanoid meme. I've seen it in 100 horror films since. I think both of those films stand at a certain point in time, as a reference point. But is there any validity to doing another one now? I don't know. Maybe. Let's see, jury's out. Let's see what Ridley comes up with. Let me just add to that — and don't cut this part off, please — I will stand in line for any Ridley Scott movie, even a not-so-great one, because he is such an artist, he's such a filmmaker. I always learn from him. And what he does with going back to his own franchise would be fascinating.”

I’ll stand in line and buy a ticket to see any Ridley Scott film too! Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be good. I was disappointed with Prometheus, but I’m excited about Alien: Covenant! It looks like it’s gonna be a wickedly terrifying film. I love that Scott is going back to his horror roots with this next chapter of the story.

Aquaman Premium Format Figure Review - Sideshow Collectibles

Heir to the throne of Atlantis, and King of the Seven Seas – all hail Aquaman!

Sideshow Collectibles sent me one of their Aquaman Premium Format Figures to review, and this thing is freakin' kick ass! This is the first premium format figure from Sideshow that I've had the pleasure of handling. This thing is awesome, and I absolutely love the sculpt and design of the character. If you're a fan of Aquaman and you're looking for a great centerpiece to show off to your friends, this is a must own.

The figure comes with two different Aquaman character designs. One features Aquaman’s classic clean shaven look with short cropped wavy blonde hair. The other version is his grizzled look from his later story arcs. He's sporting long hair, a shaggy beard and a badass prosthetic harpoon hand, which also doubles as a grappling hook. It's really easy switch out the heads and the hands as they are held in by just magnetics.

The artists that worked on this did an incredible job designing and sculpting the figure. The details are simply stunning. I did an unboxing review video that you can watch below, and I also included some photos that I took.

Gifted with extraordinary aquatic abilities, Arthur Curry rises from the depths wielding his mighty trident, a powerful enchanted weapon and symbol of sovereign authority. Striking a commanding pose in a regal gold and green incarnation of his iconic costume, the sworn protector of the planet swells with cool determination at the edge of the surf, as tumultuous waves break over the Atlantean themed base at his feet. Celebrating a rich comic book history, multiple display options give collectors the ability to choose between Aquaman’s classic look with short cropped wavy blonde hair, or his grizzled appearance from later story arcs, when he sports long hair, a shaggy beard and a prosthetic harpoon hand that doubles as a grappling hook.

Perfectly capturing one of DC Comics’ most recognizable heroes, Sideshow’s Aquaman Premium Format™ Figure is a must-have for fans of the Justice League!

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY'S Mantis Confirmed for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

$

The list of characters that will be included in Avengers: Infinity War continues to grow with the addition of Mantis, who will make her MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I guess that means she end up becoming a core member of the team in Vol. 2. We already knew that Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, Rocket, and Nebula would be in Infinity War, but the addition of Mantis is a pleasant surprise, and I'm sure there will be more surprises like this as the film continues production.

The film started shooting last Monday in Atlanta, and Mantis' confirmation came from the actress who plays her, Pom Klementieff, who posted some images on Instagram, one of which was from the set of the film wearing an Infinity War beanie. She also posted a photo of the comic book cover of Avengers #123, which features a story that reveals the origin of Mantis to The Avengers.

Infinity War will shoot back-to-back with Untitled Avengers 4. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released in theaters on May 4, 2018, with its follow-up set to open on May 3, 2019.
