INDEPENDENCE DAY 3D Cancelled by 20th Century Fox

0
0

Independence Day will not be getting a 3D re-release after all. ComingSoon reports that 20th Century Fox has cancelled plans to release the post-converted flick in theaters on July 3, 2013.

The Roland Emmerich film stars Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum and Randy Quaid, and was a loose re-telling of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. Originally grossing over $800 million worldwide, Independence Day solidified Smith's place in A-list Hollywood.

No news is available about the plans for the two-part sequel we reported this summer. Stay tuned for more information as this develops!

Cool Alternate Ending for THOR

Check out this really cool alternate ending to Thor, which is one of the many special features being released with the upcoming Marvel Phase One box set, which is set to be released on April 2nd, 2013. It will include a ton of extras that includes footage from existing Marvel films, and some sneak peeks at some of the Phase Two films!

The scene basically shows Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), Darcy (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) shooting a beacon into the sky to help guide Thor (Chris Hemsworth) back to Earth.

Not sure why it ended up on the cutting room floor, it's actually a nice little scene. Check it out!

MICROSOFT Set to Release Two Versions of the XBOX Next Year

0
0

So we all have been hearing about the new Xbox that is supposedly due out next year. Many people have been calling it the "Xbox 720" or rather "Project Durango". But we haven't received some concrete evidence of exactly what Microsoft will do when this new console hits the market next year. But all of that may change as of now.

The Verge has confirmed with many sources who are close to the gaming company that there will be two consoles released by Microsoft next year. One will be a low-cost version that delivers access to all of Xbox's entertainment services, pretty much like a Roku or AppleTV. While the other version of the system will be the full offering of the next generation system for the core gamers out there.

This is an excellent play for Microsoft if you ask me, as they strive to get into more households with their product lines similar to how Apple has been doing it in recent years. With the recently released Windows 8 platform, along with Surface tablets and Windows Phones, Microsoft could possibly take a chunk of Apple's revenue away in coming years.

The cool thing about "Mini Xbox" (yeah, that's just what I will call it for now) is that not only will it allow users access to things like Netflix, ESPN, Bing and all the other Xbox apps, it will also allow users to play select Arcade titles as well. So even though you may not be able to play the big titles like Call of Duty or Halo on this version, at least you will still be able to play many of the very good Xbox Live Arcade titles.

Hardware Specs are not fully locked down as of this time, but it's said that Microsoft will use a chipset that allows it to always be on in a way. Meaning that the device will boot up quickly and resume where you left off, so that you can quickly access your TV and entertainment services on the console.

When Microsoft was asked to comment on the news, this is what they had to say:

Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend the console lifecycle by introducing controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention.

Next year will be an exciting time for all gamers as we start to enter a new generation of gaming. Some say that has already started now, with the recent release of Nintendo's WiiU. Either way, we have a lot to look forward to.

BATTLEFIELD 3 - Team Explodes a Tank Up to a Roof

I think it's safe to assume that most people play Battlefield 3 because of how bat-shit crazy it is. Sure, it's a competent shooter and all that, but the majority of the fun to be had is from crashing Jets into the streets or driving tanks through buildings. I have always preferred this series over Call of Duty for those very reasons.

The guys over at 1080 Pixel Gaming have captured footage of a successful attempt they made in getting a tank to explode its way on top of a roof. In the YouTube comments section, they said they used about 60 things of C4, so know that if you try to do it yourself.

Earlier we reported that Joe Carnahan (The Grey) was set to direct Mark Millar's Nemesis comic book. Now we have confirmation thanks to Carnahan and CBM.  It has also been reported that Liam Neeson is attached to play Blake Morrow, the police detective who the titular villain targets.

Here are Carnahan's tweets confirming that he and his brother Matthew have begun working on the screenplay:

Here's the plot summary from the comic:

What if the smartest, toughest costumed bad ass in the world was totally evil? Meet Nemesis. He's systematically been destroying the lives of every police chief in Asia, and he's now set his sights on Washington, DC. Between you and me, the police don't have a chance.

Crazy Fun Footage from THE HOST 2

Here's our first terrifyingly fun clip from the Korean horror movie The Host 2. The clips features a giant creature out for the blood causing chaos for some poor family. There's one scene in particular where the monster is chasing two little terrified kids through the street. It's pretty intense!

According to Twitch"the CG effects were produced by Macrograph, the VFX company behind Soar Into the Sun, A Chinese Ghost Story and Stephen Chow's upcoming Journey to the West." The clip is followed by a visual effects breakdown.

There's no release date set for the film yet, but after seeing this clip I'm excited to see it!

PLAYSTATION ALL-STARS BATTLE ROYALE - Unused Promotional Art

CG Hub is a great site that allows you to browse some phenomenal artwork as well as getting access to concept art for games that may not be seen anywhere else.

Well, seeing as how PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is hot this week, I searched for art that was based on the game. I was lucky enough to come across these pictures which were created by someone working on the game. They say, on their page, that these were made as potential marketing tools, but were never used. Cool, right? The internet allows for people like myself to come across gems like these and then share them with you! Worship me.

Katee Sackhoff Talks about RIDDICK and Why It Got an R-Rating

0
0

Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff plays the lead female role in Vin Diesel's Riddick, and in a recent interview with Collider she talked about taking the role, nudity, working with Diesel, and why it ended up getting an R-rating. As far as the rating goes it got an R because of blood, nudity and language...

There’s a shitload of blood and there’s little pieces of nudity, here and there.  There’s my nudity too, but it’s side boob, for three to five seconds.  It’s not that big of a deal.  It’s mostly for the language.  My character and Matt Nable’s character say fuck, like every other word.  It’s kind of fantastic, actually.  He must have said fuck 15 times, in every single scene.  It’s pretty awesome.  So, it’s mostly for language.

Sackhoff goes on to talk about working with Diesel, and the nudity aspect of the film and how she reacted when the director told her there was going to be nudity. It's pretty funny...

It’s a dream come true.  I’ve been a fan of the Riddick series since Pitch Black, and I’m such a huge fan of Vin and (director) David Twohy.  When I got the job, I was jumping up and down and crying and screaming.  And then, the director said to me, “You do know there’s nudity, right?”  And I was like, “Shit!  I have to talk to my dad first.  I can’t take the role until I call my dad.  Let me call you right back.”  So, I called my dad.  I’ve always said that I’ll know when I’ve gone too far because I won’t be able to sit down and watch it with my father.  I am a daddy’s girl at heart, even though I’m in my 30s.  So, I told him about it and he said, “You know, I can handle that, but I don’t know if your brother will be okay.  It’s Vin Diesel.  Don’t say no to Vin Diesel.  Just go do the movie.”  So, I called David Twohy back and said, “My dad said I can take my clothes off.”  It was pretty funny, actually.

She hasn't seen a full cut of the film yet, but she goes on to talk about her character in the film saying,

Her name is Dahl and she’s a Nordic bounty hunter.  She’s German.  It’s just fantastic!  There’s a scene where one of the characters screws with my character and I punch him in the face.  She’s really very short-tempered and she’s got a short fuse.  She’s funny.  She’s very, very, very good at her job.  She’s a sniper, and she’s the number two commanding officer, behind Matt Nable’s character, in our group of mercenaries.  She’s great!  Matt and I decided, from day one, after we met, that we were kindred spirits.  We got along really well.  We knew that we wanted to be standing next to each other, in every scene.  We went and told the D.P. about it and he was like, “I like it.  It works.”  That was cool!  I’m really excited about it.  It’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of.  It really is a dream come true.  It’s amazing!

She seems really excited about the movie, so that's a plus! I'm a big fan of the Riddick franchise and of Sackhoff so it's going to be so cool to see these actors working together in this film.

Richard Dreyfuss and Danny Glover Join KILLING WINSTON JONES

0
0

I love a good dark comedy so Killing Winston Jones sounds like a good one based on the casting news. Variety reports that Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Masterson, Danny Glover and Jon Heder have joined the cast.

Joel David Moore (Bones, Avatar) is directing based on a script from Justin T. Winter. Story follows "a sixth-grade English teacher (played by Masterson) who's on a mission to get the newly constructed junior high gymnasium named after his father (Dreyfuss) despite the fact that the person so memorialized must be dead -- leading to a bitter contest over the naming rights with his old rival (Glover)."

Killing Winston Jones is being produced by RadioactiveGiant's Albert Sandoval and Daemon Hillin. This is the first feature film for the company.  Tom Somerset and Peter Winther are serving as exec producers. Filming begins Monday in Savannah, GA. The film will be released in theaters and the typical platforms.

SyFy Unveils ROBOT COMBAT LEAGUE Reality TV Show

0
0

SyFy has really been amping up their reality TV programming lately. EW reports that the channel has announced a new show called Robot Combat League, which will be similar to a real-life version of last year's Real Steel. The giant robots will be controlled by shadowboxing operators whose movements are translated to their bots. WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will host the festivities.

SyFy President Mark Stern explained, "It has always been our desire — and it’s really come around perennially — to update and do Battle Bots for the new century. Can we do Real Steel? Are we at a place where you can do real bipedal robots? Every time we tried to to do it, [the project] was stymied by the technology.”

Here is a description of the show from EW:

Robot Combat League will have 12 teams. Each consists of a fighter (dubbed a “robo-jockey”) and a robotics engineer (a “robo-tech”). The fighters and techs are from various backgrounds, such as a race car driver, an Olympic athlete, a National Guard helicopter pilot. One of the robo-jocks, for example, is MMA fighter Amanda Lucas (Star Wars visionary George Lucas’ daughter). Each team is paired with its own unique robot, all designed by Setrakian, that will have unique strengths and vulnerabilities. And, of course, the robots will have a colorful names, such as “Steampunk” and “Sgt. Smash.” (If there’s a second season, I hope Lucas gets to control a giant gold robot named C-3POW).

Fights consist of three rounds, with the winning team advancing to the next competition. The winning team claims a $100,000 prize. Jericho will set up each fight and provide play-by-play commentary.

Stern also revealed that much like a real boxers, the robot fighters will have people in their corner. “They are complete boxing matches," he explained. "If a robot is disabled, the team has 20 minutes to get it functional again and back in the ring.”

Discovery Channel is currently developing Robogeddon, produced by James Cameron and Mark Burnett. Robot Combat League just wrapped production on its first season last week.

Chevy Chase Leaving COMMUNITY

0
0

Chevy Chase is graduating from Community earlier than expected. THR reports that Chase will be leaving the show effective immediately after starring as Pierce Hawthorne for more-than three seasons. The fourth season is almost done filming, with only one or two more episodes yet to be produced. At this time it is not known if Chase's departure will be written into the show, but it is not expected to impact production. Chase will also still appear in the season finale.

Chase and NBC have had a tumultuous relationship since Chase grew fustrated with the direction his character was going. This is just the latest in a bunch of detours the show has had to face during it's fourth season. The show was only renewed at the last minute this May, and was originally slotted for Friday.

NBC pushed the shows return to October 19th in an effort to properly promote it, but then moved it back to Thursdays at 8 pm. The fourth will now officially air on February 7, and fans will hopefully not lose any further cast members.

Concept Promo for IRON SKY Director's JEREMIAH HARM

0
0

Iron Sky director Timo Vuorensola has released a concept promo trailer for another film project Jeremiah Harm, and it looks really freakin' cool! The film is an adaptation of the graphic novel created by Alan Grant and Keith Giffen. Here's a description...

Jeremiah - you can call him Jerry, but he'll probably rip your limbs off if you do - is a nasty guy with a bad attitude and a lever-action rifle to back that up. He's a human, but never really went to Earth. Born and raised in several intergalactic orphanaries with a bunch of aliens from all corners of the galaxy, he begun a career as a bounty hunter early, scoring his first kill before the age of 15. After that, the bodycount has been steadily rising, and by mid-30's, he has basically hunted down every imaginable race in the galaxy - but not his own kind. See, he's the only human around as far as he knows, until he is assigned to Earth, a planet claimed to be lost thousands of years ago. And of course he finds himself from New York, chasing a bunch of alien criminals and a girl they kidnapped from the Most Important Man In the Universe.

The movie is being produced by Tero Kaukomaa (Iron Sky), Arnold Rifkin (A Good Day To Die Hard) and Boom! Studios' Ross RitchieTimur Bekmambetov's Bazelev's outfit is also involved with the development of the film.

This is only test footage and none of it will be used in the final product, but it still gives us an awesome look at what Vuorensola is planning visually. I love the tone and I'm excited to see how it turns out!

Trailer for the British Comedy I GIVE IT A YEAR

0
0

Here's the trailer for a fun looking new British romantic comedy called I Give It A Year, which comes from the same people that brought us Love Actually, which was a great film! I don't have a problem with romantic comedies (unless they suck) and this one looks entertaining. Apparently it's also been getting great reviews.

The movie was directed by Brüno scribe Dan Mazer and it stars Rose Byrne, Rafe SpallAnna FarisSimon BakerStephen MerchantMinnie Driver and Jason Flemyng

Synopsis:

Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Rose Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Rafe Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer, he’s lasses faire and she’s quite anal… but the spark between them is undeniable.

Their wedding is a dream come true, but family, friends and even the minister who marries them aren’t convinced that they can last. Josh’s ex-girlfriend, Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome American client Guy (Simon Baker), could offer attractive alternatives…

With their first anniversary approaching, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it?

There's no release date in the U.S. for the movie yet, but it comes out in the U.K. on February 8th, 2013.
