Screen Gems has released yet another film clip for Underworld: Awakening. This new one-minute clip is a hell of a lot more interesting than the first one we posted earlier today. In it Selene plants some bombs throughout a building and detonates them.

Kate Beckinsale plays Selene who "escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species."

The movie is set to be released in 3D on January 20th, 2012. Check out the film clip below and hit us up with any thoughts you might have.

First Look at Amanda Seyfried as Pornstar Linda Lovelace

Here's your first official look at Amanda Seyfried as pornstar Linda Lovelace and Peter Sarsgaard as her husband Chuck Traynor in the biopic, Lovelace

The movie is based on book written by Eric Danville called The Complete Linda Lovelace and is being adapted by W. Merritt Johnson and Andy Bellin.

For those of you not familiar, "Lovelace is the infamous star of the 1972 porn flick Deep Throat, which is one of the highest-grossing independent films of all-time. She was just a Florida schoolgirl named Linda Boreman when she met Traynor, a would-be filmmaker transformed her into a world-famous sex star. After years of being victimized, Lovelace quit the business and divorced Traynor, who she accused of taking advantage of her naivete and coercing her into porn and prostitution."

This doesn't sound like it's going to be the most uplifting feel good film of the year. Is this a film you'ld be interested in seeing?

Disney's MATTERHORN Ride Inspired Movie Gets a Director

Last year Disney announced that they would be making a movie based on the classic Disneyland roller coaster Matterhorn, which has been previously described as a "thrilling, fast-paced movie centering on five young adventure seekers who, for mysterious reasons, are called to the top of the mountain and encounter a Yeti on the journey down." Today we've learned that the studio has hired commercial director Brian Beletic to take on the film project.

As of right now Disney is calling the movie Untitled Explorers Project, and Deadline has a little more info on the story, which follows "a small group of young, super adventure/explorers, each with a specific skill set, are brought to the remote backcountry of the Pennine Alps under various guises for a trek across one of the planet’s remaining untouched realms. They do this with extreme skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering."

Here's a couple of commercials that have been directed by Beletic that will give you a solid idea of what his imagination is like. After watching some of his stuff I can see why they want to bring him on board. It will be interesting to see how he ends up bringing this story to life. Check out some of the commercials below and let us know if you think Beletic will be a good film director.

Tim Burton wants Robert Downey Jr. for PINOCCHIO

It looks like Tim Burton is preparing to bring Pinocchio to life on the big screen, and according to THR he wants Robert Downey Jr. to be the films star. If this all comes together Downey Jr. will take on the role of Geppetto, the man who builds the wooden boy that wants so badly to become a real boy.

This is the same project that is set up at Warner Bros. where screenwriter Bryan Fuller is writing the script, he's the same guy who's worked on TV series such as Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies.

The story originated in Italian author Carlo Collodi's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. The first half was originally a serial between 1881 and 1883, and then later completed as a book for children in February 1883. The story has been adapted several times for film over the years, but Disney's 1940 insanely creepy animated film is definitely the best known version. This new version will be live-action and will follow Geppetto as he embarks on a quest to reunite with his missing marionette.

Nither Burton or Downey Jr. are officially attached to the film yet, but inside sources are saying that Burton is wants to direct the movie, and is currently in talks with the studio. Burton is also currently looking at taking on an adaptation of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children at Fox. Warner Bros. is looking to move fast on this Pinocchio movie so if Burton wants to do it then this will most likely be his next movie. The director is currently shooting Dark Shadows

The sources also say that Downey Jr. is excited about the project as well, but as you know he has a crazy busy schedule these days. I guess if they can make it work out he would end up doing it. The studio hopes that the two talents will commit soon so they can get moving on it.

I would love to see these two film talents team up for a movie, and there's no doubt Burton's vision of Pinocchio will be a dark and twisted one. What do you all think?

Martin Campbell to Direct UMBRA After Joe Carnahan Drops Out

Green Lantern's Martin Campbell has found his next directing gig. Deadline reports that Campbell has taken over for Joe Carnahan on Umbra, which is being funded by Endgame Entertainment. Paul Haggis, who worked with Campbell on Casino Royale, has been brought on to do a rewrite on the drama about "a business man who gets a mysterious package in the mail and gets caught up in a government conspiracy." Filming is scheduled to start in the spring.

Umbra is being produced by Endgame’s James Stern along with Hal Lieberman and Campbell’s production partner Lucienne PaponSteven Karczynski and Carnahan did re-write work on the most recent draft. Carnahan parted ways with the project for personal reasons. He has been busy with The Grey, which stars Liam Neeson and opens on January 27.

The story reminds me of Enemy of the State, which I liked. I loved Casino Royale and think Martin Campbell is a great director. What are your thoughts?

Matthew Vaughn Not Likely to Direct KICK-ASS 2

Kick-Ass fans, get ready for some bad news. MTV is reporting that Matthew Vaughn is unlikely to direct a follow up to the 2010 superhero cult hit. Until now, co-writers Jane Goldman and Vaughn have mentioned they would be interested in a sequel, but only if it could top the first.

Goldman recently did an interview to promote her new film The Woman In Black. In the interview she mentioned that she and Vaughn will not likely serve as writer and director, but instead as producers. Here is what she had to say:
"I think the only thing that is fairly sure is that right now, Matthew doesn't have any plans to direct it. He and I are not currently talking about writing it either. It may well be that Matthew oversees ['Kick-Ass 2'] in a producer role, and I may also be involved in that capacity. I know that there is somebody that Matthew has been talking to who would be interested in writing and directing that. That would be cool."

"It's very tempting," she added of going back into the "Kick-Ass" universe. "We had such a wonderful time making it. It's such a great bunch of people, people we'd all be incredibly keen to work with again. If we could repeat the experience we had that would be wonderful. I think for whatever reason Matthew feels that he isn't going to be directing that one."
Goldman went on to share her thoughts on the need for a Kick-Ass sequel:
"My own feeling is that I love Mark Millar's follow-up to the comic. I love the second volume of the comic, but whether the movie itself needs a sequel, I'm a little on the fence about that."
As long as Vaughn is involved, I will be happy. I am just hoping that Kick-Ass 2 finally gets made. What are your thoughts on this news?

The Avengers have been reimagined as school kids by DazTibbles. This is some pretty sweet fan art. I can't wait to see Joss Whedon's vision come to life on screen. This original art gives us an idea of what the team might have looked like as kids.

Blu-ray Review--Uwe Boll's IN THE NAME OF THE KING 2

$

0

Uwe Boll's In The Name of the King 2: Two Worlds was recently released on Blu-ray and DVD. Dolph Lundgren, Natassia Malthe, and Lochlyn Munro star in this film about an ex-Special Forces soldier who travels back to medieval times to fulfill an ancient prophecy. In the process, he ends up finding redemption for his own battlefield experiences.

Aside from being a medieval fantasy action film directed by Boll, Two Worlds has nothing to do with the first film. This is an unnecessary sequel to In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. That film starred Jason Statham, Claire Forlani, and Burt Reynolds and is one of Boll's better films (if that is possible).

Two Worlds is bad on so many levels, that it is almost good. If you are familiar with Boll's previous work, you will know exactly what to expect. The bad script, poor choreography, and ridiculous special effects make this film on par with SyFy made-for-TV movies. If you are looking for a good story, then this is not the movie for you. The story is convoluted and horribly paced from the opening scene. The script seems to have been written by someone who has seen way too many medieval movies and wrote the script after drinking copious amounts of alcohol.

The saving grace for the script is that there are some relatively funny moments. Granted, the majority of the good bits are more cheesy than anything. My favorite line is when Lundgren's character Granger is asked if he'd like a larger sword. He responds by saying "In the Black Forest, I have a feeling that bigger is better." Don't worry, there are many more lines that are pure cheese like that throughout the movie. There are times when I almost had to stop the disc and re-watch a scene just to see if they actually said that.

Lochlyn Munro seemed completely mis-cast as the King. During fight sequences he just seems out-of-place on the battlefield. Lundgren is right at home in any action movie. I loved him in The Expendables and have seen a couple of his other straight-to-DVD movies. His presence is literally larger-than-life; he towers over the rest of the cast.

I had hoped that Two Worlds would have better action and fighting sequences. As I stated above, the choreography is horrible. I am sure that LARPers would have done a better job. If that was not enough, some of the fight scenes were confusing. It was hard to tell the difference between the villains and the heros. The villains are dressed in black with hoods, while the king's men are dressed in dark colors. This causes the fight scenes to be even more muddled than they already are because of the poor choreography.

Not much went into the special features on this disc, but I have to say it does have decent sound and picture quality. Two Worlds is a sub-par Blu-ray experience overall. Even though I am not a fan of Boll's films, I have to give him credit for his tenacity. As a fan of Lundgren, I am looking forward to his redemption in The Expendables 2.

Katee Sackhoff Joins RIDDICK

Oh yeah! Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff is in final negotiations to play the lead female role in Vin Diesel's new Chronicles Of Riddick sequel. Sackhoff will play a character named Dhal described as a "Nordic mercenary tracking Riddick."

The sci-fi movie is being written and directed by David Twohy, and this is one of the best bits of news for the production that I've seen in a long time. I'm excited for this new Riddick movie; the concept art that Diesel has released has been awesome and the story sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.

What are your thoughts on Sackhoff being officially cast in the film?

Here's some previously released information on the film:

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

Riddick is a direct sequel to Pitch Black – the events tie into that film. In much the same way the upcomingDark Knight Rises will tie up any loose threads and plot points from Batman Begins, Riddick will return to the mystery and monsters at the centre of Pitch Black.

Blake Lively, Channing Tatum, and Jude Law to Star in Steven Soderbergh's THE SIDE EFFECTS

Steven Soderbergh has found his next project after dropping out of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The Playlist reports that he has secured financing for The Side Effects. Scott Z. Burns (The Informant!, Contagion) wrote the script for the psychological thriller. Soderbergh has found his cast, which includes Blake Lively (Gossip Girl, Green Lantern), Channing Tatum (Haywire, Magic Mike) and Jude Law (Contagion, Sherlock Holmes).

Lively will play "Emily Hawkins, a woman who turns to prescription meds to cope with the anxiety of the upcoming release from prison of her husband (Tatum)." Jude Law will play Lively's new psychiatrist. No deals have been finalized, but they should be announced later this week.

Filming is expected to begin in April to meet a release date in 2013. Soderbergh was reportedly impressed with Tatum during Haywire, which is why he chose him for Magic Mike and recommended him for U.N.C.L.E. I am looking forward to Haywire, which arrives on January 20th, and am intrigued to see what Magic Mike is all about when it opens on June 27th. Lively was wonderful in The Town, and this role will likely give her career a boost.

Deborah Harkness' A Discovery of Witches is being adapted for the big screen. Variety reports that Warner Bros. has hired David Auburn to write the screenplay. Auburn wrote the play Proof, the movie The Lake House, and wrote and directed 2007's The Girl in the Park.

This is the first book of the "All Souls" Trilogy. The second book, Shadow of Night, is being released this summer. Here is a description of the book:
When historian Diana Bishop opens a bewitched alchemical manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library it represents an unwelcome intrusion of magic into her carefully ordinary life. Though descended from a long line of witches, she is determined to remain untouched by her family’s legacy. She banishes the manuscript to the stacks, but Diana finds it impossible to hold the world of magic at bay any longer.

For witches are not the only otherworldly creatures living alongside humans. There are also creative, destructive daemons and long-lived vampires who become interested in the witch’s discovery. They believe that the manuscript contains important clues about the past and the future, and want to know how Diana Bishop has been able to get her hands on the elusive volume.

Chief among the creatures who gather around Diana is vampire Matthew Clairmont, a geneticist with a passion for Darwin. Together, Diana and Matthew embark on a journey to understand the manuscript’s secrets. But the relationship that develops between the ages-old vampire and the spellbound witch threatens to unravel the fragile peace that has long existed between creatures and humans—and will certainly transform Diana’s world as well.

I have not read the books, but am intrigued by the story. What are your thoughts on this news?

First Look at Nicholas Hoult as a Zombie in WARM BODIES

Summit Entertainment has released an image from their upcoming zombie romance, Warm Bodies, giving us our first look at Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) as the zombie heartthrob. The film comes to us from 50/50 and The Wackness director Jonathan Levine.

The story follows an "existentially-tormented zombie named R that begins an unlikely friendship with the human girlfriend of one of his victims. The blossoming relationship starts a chain reaction that will transform him, his fellow zombies and maybe the whole lifeless world." There's no doubt this is going to be a hell of an interesting movie. The fact that Levine is directing the film gives me hope that it won't end up being crap, because it easily could be.

The film is based a book that is being written by Isaac Marion and will eventually be published by Atria Books, a division of Simon and Schuster.

The film hits theaters on August 10th, 2012, and here's a short synopsis for the film:

When a highly unusual zombie rescues a girl from imminent death at the hands of his cohorts, their unlikely romance sets in motion a chain of events that will transform him, his fellow dead and maybe even the whole lifeless world.

HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, A THOUSAND WORDS, PIXELS and More Delayed

Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures have announced some release date changes. Comingsoon reports that Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has been delayed for almost a year, having been pushed back from March 2nd, 2012 to January 11, 2013.

Dead Snow's Tommy Wirkola directed the film that stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, and Famke Janssen. The story takes place 15 years after the Grimm's Fairy Tale siblings' incident at the gingerbread house. The film finds Hansel and Gretel working as bounty hunters, tracking down supernatural beings. The film is planned for a 3D release.

Some other date changes have been announced. A Thousand Words starring Eddie Murphy is moving from March 23rd to April 20th, Jeff, Who Lives at Home changes from March 2nd to March 16th and Sony's Pixels is moving forward from May 17, 2013 to May 24, 2014.

I am looking forward to seeing Hansel & Gretel in theaters. No word on the reason for the delay, but it makes sense to not have it come out around the same date range that the upcoming Snow White movies are scheduled. What are your thoughts on this news?

POLICE ACADEMY Remake To Be Directed By Scott Zabielski

New Line is set to give Police Academy the remake treatment. Variety reports that Tosh.0's Scott Zabielski is making his feature film directorial debut. He won the coveted gig over more experienced directors, after completing actual police academy training as a reserve officer in West Hollywood. The script was co-written by David Diamond and David Weissman. The film's original producer, Paul Maslansky, is returning to produce the remake. Production is expected to begin next year, after casting is completed.

The original was a box office success when it was released in 1984. It stayed atop the box office for three weeks and then dropped down a slot. It regained the top spot for it's fifth and sixth weekends and continued doing well throughout the summer. The film grossed more than $81 million domestically, even though it never showed on more than 1,587 screens.

I fell in love with the characters in this quirky film during this first film and its subsequent sequels. I am not upset about this being remade and am interested in seeing who gets cast. What are your thoughts on this news?

BRUCE ALMIGHTY Sequel in the Works For Jim Carrey

Universal Pictures is prepping a Bruce Almighty sequel for Jim Carrey. Variety reports that the studio is intent on moving forward with a sequel to the 2003 film. The first film was a huge hit at the box office, raking in $500 million worldwide. The studio has hired Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (Hot Tub Time Machine, Yes Man) to write the script.

At this time it is not known if Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Aniston would return. Tom Shadyac has not directed a scripted film since Evan Almighty, but it would be cool to see him back in the director's chair.

Not many people liked Evan Almighty, but it was not bad. I am a bit biased since I am a huge fan of Steve Carrell. I did not really like Bruce Almighty, one of my least favorite Carrey films. I could take or leave this sequel.

Man's Ex-Wife Dumps His Star Wars Toy Collection in Alley

A lot of us geeks enjoy collecting things, and we've all had our day collecting Star Wars toys. I myself have about four or five boxes full of Star Wars toys. This poor guy's ex-wife turned to the dark side and ended up taking his entire Star Wars collection and dumping it in an alley behind her house. I'm sure there's been time my wife has wanted to do that, but thankfully she hasn't... yet.

There were about 10 black trash bags with carded figures stuffed into them 400-500 of them! Good thing the weather was cooperative and I was quick enough on the scene to detour the smokers in the alley.

Hey, at least she shoved them in black trash bags and didn't burn them, because we all know that's what she really wanted to do.
