Go Back to 1994 with Adam Sandler in the Trailer for His New Movie SANDY WEXLER

$

Adam Sandler used to make some really funny comedies in the '90s. I loved watching his stuff back in the day, and I was a big fan. He's now got a new Netflix movie coming out called Sandy Wexler that takes him back to those '90s glory days. I haven't really cared for any of his Netflix films so far, but this one does look like it captures the humor of Sandler from the '90s, especially with the way he plays his character. I'm not expecting much, but it looks like it might be a funny movie.

The film follows Sandy Wexler (Adam Sandler), a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s, who diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Academy Award® and Grammy® winner Jennifer Hudson), a tremendously talented singer who he discovers at an amusement park.

The Netflix original film was directed by Steve Brill (The Do-Over) and also stars Kevin James, Terry Crews, Lamorne Morris, Nick Swardson (The Do-Over), Rob Schneider, Jane Seymour, Carl Weathers, and Arsenio Hall.

Sandy Wexler will be released on Netflix April 14.

Dwayne Johnson Is Getting a Solo BLACK ADAM Movie in Addition to SHAZAM

Dwayne Johnson has been attached to the role of Black Adam since 2008, and we knew he would for sure appearin DC Entertainment's Shazam! movie, but it's now been announced that the DC villain will also get his very own solo film!

New Line Cinema is the production company that has been developing the films over at Warner Bros. and the report at THR says that the Shazam! and Black Adam films will be developed concurrently.

Dwayne Johnson recently had a big high-profile meeting with DC about his future involvement with them, and this is obviously what that meeting was about. It's pretty exciting, and it makes complete sense that the studio would want to build a film around him. I'm a big fan of Johnson, and I can't wait to see him in the role!

It's said that the Black Adam we see in the movie will be an anti-hero-type version of the character. The also say it "mirrors recent developments in the DC comics, in stories written by Johns, where Adam, while still a villain, was fighting against enemies who sought to enslave his people."

As of right now, there's no writer or director attached to the Black Adam film project, but it will be interesting to see who that talent turns out to be. As of this moment, Shazam! has a script that is being developed by Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo).

It's going to be fun to see how these two films turn out.

Marvel Hires a B-Movie Director to Helm THE INHUMANS IMAX Episodes

Marvel and ABC have hired feature film director Roel Reine to helm the first two IMAX episodes of their new series The Inhumans. Reine has worked on a ton of B-movie film projects such as Death Race 2, The Marine 2, The Lost Tribe, The Scorpion King 3, The Man with the Iron Fists 2, Hard Target 2 and others.

The list of films should give you a good idea of what we can expect from The Inhumans. Those films definitely aren't the greatest movies in the world but some of them have turned out fun and entertaining. He's probably not the director I would have gone with, but let's see what he ends up doing with the property and the characters. He must've had a great pitch meeting with Marvel, otherwise, he wouldn't have landed the gig.

The Inhumans TV series is expected to focus on Black Bolt and the Inhumans royal family and the first two episodes will be shot entirely in IMAX. Dexter and Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck will serve as showrunner on the series.

This seems like an incredibly ambitious project for Marvel and ABC and I really hope their creative team can pull it off and give us something incredible, something we've never seen before. I don't know if asking for a mind-blowing experience is too much to ask, but that's what I want.

The first two episodes will debut in over 1,000 IMAX theater on Labor Day weekend. The series will then start its eight-episode run on ABC on Tuesday, September 26th, 2017. All eight episodes are expected to run on the network over consecutive Tuesdays, which means that the finale will air on Tuesday, November 14th, 2017.

Eric Tan's STAR WARS Prequel Posters Are Way Better Than the Movies

We've featured the work of Eric Tan a ton of times before on this site. Personally, I love his style, and think he's one of the coolest artists working on pop culture-related content today, and he's collaborated with Bottleneck Gallery on the release of three posters inspired by George Lucas's infamous Star Wars prequel trilogy.

io9 points us to these three silkscreened prints that, as far as I'm concerned, are much more enjoyable to look at than anything in Lucas's prequels. With these, you can concentrate purely on the design elements of the characters, planets, and vehicles instead of thinking about how much of a missed opportunity that entire trilogy was.

Unfortunately, they're already sold out. I guess there's always eBay...

@bottleneckgallery is releasing #starwars prequel prints tomorrow (Jan 19) at 12pm EST. Each one is a 12" by 36" silkscreened print, similar in size to the original trilogy prints that came out a few years ago. Hopefully with 6 of these now complete, someone will ask me to continue the series with a #forceawakens version!

I was gonna post a heads up that @bottleneckgallery had the #starwars prequel prints up for sale but I was just informed that they're gonzo. Thanks to all of you who picked 'em up. I appreciate the support!! Fingers crossed that other SW stuff I had worked on will be printed in the not too distant future.

Neil Gaiman's GOOD OMENS Is Being Adapted as a TV Miniseries for Amazon

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel Good Omens is finally going to get its long-awaited adaptation. At one point Terry Gilliam was supposed to direct a film based on the story with Robin Williams and Johnny Depp starring in it, but it never happened.

Amazon Studios has now picked it up, and they will develop it as a limited 6-part comedy series with each episode being an hour long. Gaiman is set to write the entire series, and he's also going to be the showrunner, so fans are going to get the purest adaptation possible. If you're not familiar with the story, here's the description:

Good Omens takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner.
So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And… someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Ya gotta love a good comedy about an impending global apocalypse! Gaiman said about the series in a statement:

“Almost thirty years ago, Terry Pratchett and I wrote the funniest novel we could about the end of the world, populated with angels and demons, not to mention an eleven-year old Antichrist, witchfinders and the four horsepeople of the Apocalypse. It became many people’s favourite book. Three decades later, it’s going to make it to the screen. I can’t think of anyone we’d rather make it with than BBC Studios, and I just wish Sir Terry were alive to see it.”

Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios added:

“Spanning not only the universe but also the entirety of time, Neil Gaiman has created a story that may be the largest ever told on television. We’re excited to be working with BBC Studios to bring Neil and Terry Pratchett’s incredible book to life and to Prime members everywhere.”

It's exciting to see that this story will finally be brought to life, and I think doing it as a limited series is the best and most effective way to properly pull it off.  With Gaiman leading the charge and steering the ship on this production, I'm sure it's going to be great! I'm curious to see who they end up casting in the series.

COLOSSAL Trailer: Anne Hathaway Controls a Destructive Kaiju

Here's the first trailer for Colossal, the newest film from Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo. It centers on the sudden appearance of a giant kaiju creature who begins destroying the city of Seoul, South Korea, and an American woman played by Anne Hathaway who realizes that she has a mysterious connection with the beast: it appears as if its actions mimic her own. This looks pretty awesome to me. Thanks to EW for the trailer.

Colossal will be playing at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and Neon will be releasing it in theaters for the rest of us on April 7, 2017.

I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE Trailer: Melanie Lynskey and Elijah Wood Hunt Thieves

What would you get if you combined the acting talents of Melanie Lynskey (Togetherness) and Elijah Wood with the cinematography skills of the guy who shot Swiss Army Man? You'd get the strangely named I don't feel at home in this world anymore., a new film that marks the writing and directing debut of Blue Ruin and Green Room actor Macon Blair. Lynskey plays a woman who gets robbed and decides to hunt down the thieves with the help of her goofy, martial arts-obsessed neighbor (Wood). Of course, things don't quite pan out the way they imagine.

This movie made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival last night, but Netflix has already picked it up, so we'll all be able to see it when it arrives on the streaming service on February 24, 2017.

From the producers of Kelly Reichardt's "Certain Women" and Jeremy Saulnier's "Green Room" comes the story of Ruth (Melanie Lynskey), a nursing assistant suffering through a crisis of existential despair. But when her house is burglarized, Ruth discovers a renewed sense of purpose in tracking down the thieves. Accompanied by her obnoxious martial-arts-enthusiast neighbor Tony (Elijah Wood), they soon find themselves dangerously out of their depth against a pack of degenerate criminals.
Written and directed by Macon Blair ("Blue Ruin," "Green Room,") in his directorial debut, with a distinctive look courtesy of cinematographer Larkin Seiple ("Swiss Army Man," "Cop Car"), the film also stars David Yow, Jane Levy, Devon Graye, Christine Woods, Robert Longstreet, Lee Eddy and Gary Anthony Williams. The film was produced by XYZ Films and filmscience.

This Subtle Sound Effect Has Replaced INCEPTION's "BRAHM" as the Go-To Effect for Movie Trailers

$

It seemed like Hollywood took one lesson from the success of Inception back in 2010: not that original science fiction films with stellar casts from auteur directors were worth pursuing, but that the "brahhhhhm" noise in the movie's trailer apparently needed to be added to every damn trailer that's come out in the past five years. Eventually it got so played out that I stopped noticing it altogether...what was once added impact to a trailer shot became nothing more than white noise.

Now there's a new contender for, as io9 calls it, "the latest annoying sound showing up in every dang movie trailer." At this stage, though, it isn't quite as annoying as an overt "brahm" because it's much more subtle: it's a bass note that sounds like "<<<bwoooruuuummmmm>>>" that drops before what's supposed to be an epic moment on screen. You may not know what I'm talking about just from that description, but when you watch this supercut from CinemaRaven, you'll realize you've heard it a ton of times already — and I bet you won't be able to hear it again without thinking of this.

Mondo and the Alamo Drafthouse Are Bringing Four Stanley Kubrick Movies Back to Theaters This Year

Here's some cool news for cinephiles out there: Mondo, Warner Bros., Alamo Drafthouse, and the Kubrick Estate have teamed up to bring four Stanley Kubrick films back to theaters in 2017. The four films in question: A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, and The Shining. In addition to the one night only screenings, Mondo and Alamo Drafthouse have acquired the official licensing rights to those films and will be creating exclusive apparel that "draws directly from film assets and features some of the most iconic imagery from Kubrick's legendary oeuvre."

The series kicks off with A Clockwork Orange on February 21, 2017, and if you live near a Drafthouse location, you'll be able to see the film on the big screen that night. They don't have dates announced yet for the remaining three films, but I've personally never had a chance to see 2001 in a theater, and this sounds like a great chance to be able to finally make that happen.

Fans of a bit of the old ultra-violence and Ludwig Van will be in bliss and heaven to learn that the series will launch on February 21st with A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. Timed to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of CLOCKWORK author Anthony Burgess, the Alamo Drafthouse will screen Kubrick's dystopian droog tale for one night only at locations across the country. Each ticket will include a commemorative t-shirt featuring Kubrick's seminal CLOCKWORK opening shot of Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell. All other items in the A CLOCKWORK ORANGE collection will be available exclusively on mondotees.com.
As 2017 continues, each quarter Alamo Drafthouse and Mondo will continue to unleash new products and screenings for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, FULL METAL JACKET and THE SHINING.
Alamo Drafthouse theaters participating in A CLOCKWORK ORANGE screenings include:

Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson to Star in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS Remake Titled NASTY WOMEN

$

0

A few months ago, we heard that MGM was developing a gender-swapped remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the 1988 Michael Caine/Steve Martin con man comedy. At the time, we knew Rebel Wilson was set to play one of the con women, and now Deadline reports that Anne Hathaway is going to play the other in the remake, which is now officially titled Nasty Women.

There's no official word on which actress will play the high class con artist and which will play the low class one, but based on the characters these two have played in the past, it's pretty obvious which ones they'd play. I'm actually hoping that they go a bit against type, and that Wilson ends up as the snooty one and Hathaway plays the less sophisticated one, because that would make things a bit more interesting. (Without that switch, you can basically slot them into the story in your head right now and there's little point in actually watching the movie when it comes out.) This time they're looking to swindle a rich tech prodigy out of his cash, and without spoiling anything, I'm almost certain they'll change the ending from the '88 film to appease the masses.

One of my most anticipated new series of 2017 is FX Network's Feud: Bette and Joan. It's a limited series that retells the story of the famous dispute between legendary actresses Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, and it focuses on their work on the classic thriller What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

The rivalry between Davis and Crawford is the stuff legends are made of. It's one of the craziest Hollywood rivalries ever, and their story is going to make for one hell of an entertaining series!

The series was created by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), and it stars Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford. You can get your first look at the actresses in their roles above on the cover of the latest issue of EW. We also have the first promo teaser for you to enjoy. I love the old-school 1960s flare that it has as it recreates one of the iconic scenes from the film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

FEUD: Bette and Joan, the first installment of Ryan Murphy’s FX anthology series, centers on the legendary rivalry between Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) during the filming of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and after filming ended. It explores how the two endured ageism, sexism, and misogyny while struggling to hang on to their careers.

The cast also includes Alfred Molina as the film’s director Robert Aldrich, Stanley Tucci as studio titan Jack Warner, Judy Davis as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, Jackie Hoffman as Crawford’s housekeeper Mamacita, Alison Wright as Aldrich’s assistant Pauline, Dominic Burgess as Crawford and Davis’ co-star Victor Buono, Catherine Zeta-Jones as film star Olivia De Havilland, Sarah Paulson as Geraldine Page, Kathy Bates as Joan Blondell, and Kiernan Shipka as B.D., Bette Davis’ daughter.

Feud will premiere on Sunday,  March 5 on FX.

Four exciting new promo spots have been released for Kong: Skull Island and in them we get to see Kong go on a rampage of destruction. The more I see of this film, the more insane it looks! We also get to see a ton of other creatures in these spots! This movie is going to be a blast! I also included three new banners that were released for the film.

Kong: Skull Island reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

The movie has a great cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John GoodmanKong: Skull Island was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and it's set to be released on March 10th, 2017.

Fan Theory Explains Why the Stormtroopers Can't Hit Anything

$

Stormtroopers are some of the least respected characters in the Star Wars movies. Perhaps it's because of their grunt status and lack of individuality (though that was busted a little by Finn in The Force Awakens), but mostly, I think it's because fans deride them for their terrible aim. There are tons of moments in the original trilogy when the Stormtroopers are shown to have absolutely awful aim, but a fan theory has emerged to explain that it was all a giant ruse. I'd never really considered this perspective before, so I figured it was worth passing along to you.

Tom Holland Says Flash Thompson Will Be a Different Bully Than We're Used To

$

In the comics, Flash Thompson was always a hulking bully who terrorized Peter Parker in high school. So when Marvel cast the scrawny Tony Revolori in the role, many people began to scratch their heads. I don't mean scrawny in a negative way, but he's nowhere near as large as the character who will eventually become Agent Venom.

Comicbook talked to Tom Holland about the casting, and he doesn't seem to be worried by the change in character...

"...When they cast Flash Thompson they knew they didn't need a 6ft 5in jock to beat Peter Parker up. They needed a rich, smug kid commenting on how bad his trainers were. And I did it to practice my American accent."

Essentially, Revolori is a new bully for a new era. While there still may be hulk kids running around and decking kids for lunch money, there are far more privileged snots who would rather run you down with words and harassment. Whether we like it or not, they are the new bullies!

When it's explained like that I feel the move is kind of genius! Its weird the little tweaks you can make to something and instantly modernize it right? Now the only question is, will we get to see Revolori become Agent Venom down the road?
