Watch: The Methodology Behind How Louis C.K. Tells Jokes

$

In his latest video, YouTube's Nerdwriter analyzes the specific way Louis C.K. tells jokes. He gets into the real nitty gritty of the construction and delivery of the joke, praising C.K.'s ability to emphasize certain words at the perfect time. It's sort of ironic, then, that I often find the Nerdwriter's video subjects fascinating, but get annoyed with his halting, overly purposeful delivery. He says in the video that he's obsessed with articulation, but I wish he'd turn that obsession on his own videos and simply articulate the point he's trying to make like a normal person instead of putting on this "narration voice" that he clearly thinks he needs to make these videos work. Again, for the most part I dig his content...it's just unfortunate that the delivery is so distracting.

New POWER RANGERS Trailer Shows Everything That You've Wanted to See!

The new trailer for Power Rangers has been released, and it features a shit-ton of new footage that fans have been waiting to see. We see the Rangers suit up and fight; we see Bryan Cranston's Zordon training the Rangers; there's also Bill Hader's Alpha 5; new footage of Elizebeth Banks's Rita Repulsa causing havoc; Goldar destroying things; the Zords in action; and of course, a quick glimpse of the Megazord.

Up until now, most of the things in this trailer have only been seen in their action figure form. I'm really curious to see what the fans think after watching this trailer and seeing all of these things come to life. It looks ok, but I'm still not that excited. I've just been hearing bad things from people who've already seen the movie, but I'll hold off on any more judgment until I see it for myself.

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.

Power Rangers morphs into theaters on March 24th.

Heart-Pounding Trailer for the Ultra-Violent Revenge Thriller BAD DAY FOR THE CUT

I've got a trailer here for a new film called Bad Day For The Cut, which you've got to watch! If you like crazy violent revenge thrillers, then this is the movie for you. The story follows a farmer named Donal (Nigel O’Neil) who goes on a murderous revenge adventure after his mother is killed by some kind of organized crime gang. What follows is the journey of a man who won't rest until everyone involved with his mom's death is violently destroyed.

This film has a very gritty and hardcore look and feel, and it's set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this month. It's definitely on my list of things I hope to see while I'm there! It looks like it's gong to be a wild and intense ride.

The move marks the feature film debut of director Chris Baugh, and it comes from a script written by Brendan Mullin. Both of them have worked together over the years on the short films that they've made.

The film also stars Game of Thrones’ Ian McElhinneySusan Lynch, and Brian Milligan. If I get a chance to see it, you can bet that I'll be writing up a review!

Fantastically Funny New Trailer for POWERLESS With More New Superhero Humor

"You seriously can't tell the difference between a bird and a plane?"

I've got another great trailer for you to check out for NBC's new DC-themed superhero series, Powerless. It features a lot of funny new superhero humor that fans are sure to enjoy. I especially enjoyed the little bit regarding Wonder Woman's invisible jet. This series looks like it's going to be a blast to watch!

The trailer also features the supervillain Starro, a star-shaped alien creature clinging to the side of a building. Starro was actually the first villain to face off against the original Justice League of America. It's pretty cool that they've included it in the series!

In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

Powerless is set to premiere on NBC on February 2nd, and it looks like a series that you won't want to miss!

Patrick Stewart Will Play Poop Emoji in THE EMOJI MOVIE and I Still Won't See It

Want to know how to waste good talent? Cast Patrick Stewart as the voice of a piece of shit in The Emoji Movie. Look, I love Patrick Stewart, the guy's awesome, but just because he's providing the voice of poop emoji isn't going to entice me to see this terrible, awful idea for a movie.

Hollywood has a history of cashing in on the popularity of certain trends and then making stupid-ass movies out of them. T.J. Miller stars in The Emoji Movie as an an emoji born with multiple expressions. He ends up teaming with the notorious code-breaker Jailbreak (Ilana Glazer) and they embark on an adventure through a teenager's phone.

Director Tony Leondis briefly talked about the film recently, saying:

"I know what you’re thinking — WTF. What is their story? Emoji are expected to be one thing their whole lives. So I thought, what if one was born with not one, but lots of expressions ... and how would that affect the status quo? Everyone has felt different — it’s everyone’s story."

After reading that, my first thought was "WHO CARES?!" I know the film has a fanbase, but obviously, I'm not a part of it. As much as I loathe the concept of this movie, it's probably going to make a shit-ton of money and there will probably be multiple sequels. I hope I'm wrong.

THR also reported on the announcement of other cast members including Jennifer Coolidge as Gene's mother, Mary Meh, Maya Rudolph as Smiler, and Jake T. Austin will be playing Emoji's resident teen, Alex.

If anyone cares, the movie will be released on August 4th.

Ben Affleck Talks About the "Sad Affleck" Meme and the Batman Props He Kept From BVS

In an interview with the BBC, Ben Affleck addresses the mega-popular "Sad Affleck" meme that spread around the internet like crazy during the press tour of last year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and he mentions a couple of the Batman-related props he was able to take home with him from the set of the film. I know a lot of Bat-fans loved his version of the character (I thought he was fine — one of the best aspects of the movie, for sure), so there are probably a lot of people who would lose their minds if they were able to get their hands on the props he owns.

Guillermo del Toro's HELLBOY 3 Poll Blazes Past 100,000; GDT Provides Update

Well, Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3 poll has rocketed past his goal of 100,00O! The Hellboy fans showed up and delivered with a with a current 68% to 32% vote of "Hell Yes" to "Yes" in favor of making Hellboy 3, and the filmmaker is keeping his promise. He's already got the ball rolling on meeting with Ron Perlman and creator Mike Mignola. He offered the following update:

I have no idea where this is going to lead, but obviously, the hope is for it to lead to Hellboy 3 becoming a feature film reality!

As I've been thinking about it, Del Toro wouldn't do this unless he thought there was a real actual chance that this sequel could happen, which leads me to believe that there's a studio out there that has let Del Toro know that they are interested in pursuing it as well. We'll keep you updated!

Mondo Unveils New Daredevil and Scarlet Witch Posters

Generally speaking, the pop culture purveyors at Mondo likes working with the same artists over and over again. If you've paid attention to the art scene over the past few years, you probably know some of them by name: Olly Moss, Tom Whalen, JC Richard...the list goes on. But Mondo is also interested in bringing new talent into the fold, and they've collaborated for the first time with two artists to deliver a couple of comic book-themed characters in striking new posters.

First up is Greg Ruth's take on Daredevil. Greg says:

"I write and draw as a day job, and I always like to start my week off doing a drawing that isn't about work at all. A codified act of playing hooky. I don't usually do graphite drawings this way because they gobble up a lot of time, but this one Monday back in the summer I just started drawing this fellow before I knew who he was. More of a lighting experiment, really...then a little mark on his head became the horns, and the city below just started growing, and there he was...Daredevil. I'd never drawn him before in my life, but now I can't wait to draw him again."

Kevin Smith Will Direct Another SUPERGIRL Episode This Season

Kevin Smith will direct another season two episode of Supergirl. The geek director made his mark on the upcoming episode of the series titled "Supergirl Lives," and according to Comicbook, he will also direct the currently untitled episode 17 of the new season. Smith, who will be at Sundance all week, will be leaving to direct his next episode just a few days after returning from the festival...

"Monday, the episode of Supergirl that I directed airs, which is thrilling," Smith said. "I got to Sundance tomorrow and I'm up there for IMDb all week, come home Tuesday, then a few days after that, I go up to Vancouver again to direct another episode of Supergirl."

I absolutely loved the episode Smith did for The Flash, so I have high expectations for these two episodes! Maybe it was just my imagination, but it felt like his direction steered The Flash in a more comic book direction, if only temporarily. Are you excited to see what Smith does with Supergirl

G.I. JOE 3 Was Originally a TRANSFORMERS Crossover Film

$

We still don't know when the third G.I. Joe movie will be released, or what it will be about, but we do know that a Transformers crossover was being heavily weighed as the next step! Director D.J. Caruso tells Collider it was the Transformers team that halted the deal...

"They’re not ready to do [G.I. Joe meets Transformers] yet. That’s exactly what they should do, but they’re not ready to do that because, in fact, the script that I was developing, the two worlds sort of collided at the end, and when they read it they were like, ‘We’re not ready to do this yet.’ They will eventually collide those two worlds, and it’s probably when Mr. Bay decides he’s done with Transformers."

Sounds like a little bitterness from Caruso towards Michael Bay! To be fair to Bay, combining the two franchises when they are both box office successes internationally doesn't sound like a move you make when you're still making money. I'm guessing when we start to see one franchise tanking, then we will see the crossover movie.

Caruso still believes the two franchises will share a film down the road, and I think that's an absolutely awesome idea. As someone who has taken a hard pass on the latest offerings from both franchises, that would put my butt in a seat! What about you?

Peer Inside Your Favorite Looney Tunes Characters With These Anatomical Sculptures

Have you ever wondered what makes your favorite Looney Tunes characters tick? Have you ever wished you could get a peek under the hood and take a closer look at the skeleton and organs of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, and the rest of the gang? Of course not! You're not a serial killer! (Are you?) But if you happen to personally know a Looney Tunes-loving serial killer and are too scared to report him or her to the police for fear that they might somehow target you from their jail cell or make bail and hunt you down, this seems like the perfect gift. It just screams, "we both know what you are, and this proves I won't ever say anything about it so please don't kill me."

These come from artist Jason Freeny, and you can order them here and here.

GODZILLA Anime Gets New Concept Art and Cast Announcement

In case you weren't aware, Toho and Polygon Pictures have been collaborating for the past year on an exciting looking Godzilla anime! Judging from the new concept art (pictured below), it looks like the series is a mixture of Gundam meets kaiju? I like the idea of human piloted mechs searching out Godzilla, as that's something that an actual film would have trouble accomplishing without a massive budget!

Those who deeply follow the world of anime may be excited to learn that the cast includes Yuki Kaji, Takahiro Sakurai, Tomokazu Sugita, Junichi Suwabe, Kana Hanazawa, and Mamoru Miyano! Those names don't mean too much to me personally, but Crunchyroll seemed very high up on the castings. Expect to hear more about this project and possibly see a teaser sometime in late March!

Superman Expresses His Appreciation for the Qualities of His Justice League Team in Comic Strip

I'm a fan of artist Kerry Callen's retro-style DC comic strips. They are classy and funny, and today we have a new one to share with you. This is Super Antics #10, and it features Superman expressing his appreciation for the qualities of his Justice League teammates and in the process makes a crack about Batman and farts.

I found this scribbled out. I had forgotten about it. So, I took a break from my web comic and drew it! Sorry. (Not for taking a break, but for creating this.)

Trailer for the New Series Based on Guy Ritchie’s SNATCH

Guy Ritchie’s cult classic film Snatch has been adapted into a new series for Crackle. It obviously doesn’t look as good as the original film, but it could still end up being an entertaining series to watch!

The cult classic film Snatch is now a high-stakes, high-octane Crackle Original Series. Get in on the action, gangster mentality, heists and rapid-fire dialogue that earned the original movie a shite-load of fans.
Inspired by a real life heist in London, the Snatch series centers on a group of twenty-something, up and coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The boys must quickly learn to navigate the treacherous waters of London’s underworld as rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend.

The series has a great cast that includes Rupert Grint (Harry Potter), Luke Pasqualino (Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome), Lucien Laviscourt (The Bye Bye Man), Marc Warren (Wanted), Stephanie Leonidas (American Gothic), Phoebe Dynevor (Waterloo Road), Juliet Aubrey (The Infiltrator), Tamer Hassan (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass), Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible III, Taken 3), and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl).

Snatch streams for free on Crackle starting March 16, and there will be 10 episodes for your viewing enjoyment. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!

Pixar Releases Mind-Blowing Video That Connects All Their Films Via Easter Eggs

I always knew that Pixar loaded their films with references to other Pixar films, but there's something amazing about seeing it all in one video! Usually we don't notice these nods until years later, as sometimes the projects are unannounced or still in development! A couple of these I remember, like Boo showing Sully Nemo, but the majority were new to me! Do you search for Easter eggs when you watch Pixar films?

Jake Gyllenhaal's Film Adaptation of Ubisoft's THE DIVISION Will Be Directed by Stephen Gaghan

Syriana and Gold director Stephen Gaghan has been hired to write and direct Ubisoft's big screen adaptation of their hit video game The Division. Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain have already been set to star in the film.

Gaghan, who started his career as a writer, has worked on projects such as Rules of Engagement, Traffic, The Alamo, Havoc, and the video game Call of Duty: Ghosts. He's worked on a lot of great stuff, so I think we can expect a solid Division movie from him. He made the following statement to Variety:

"I’m excited to work with Ubisoft Motion Pictures and collaborate with their team at Massive Entertainment to bring The Division to the big screen. They’re great guys, exceptionally creative, and willing to take risks. The game has been an enormous success, in large part due to the visual landscape they created, their vision of a mid-apocalyptic Manhattan. It’s immersive, wonderfully strange, and yet familiar, filled with possibilities. It’s also remarkable to be able to collaborate with Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal early in the process. We all feel the story Ubisoft created is more relevant than ever."

For those of you not familiar with the story of the game, here's a plot synopsis that lays it out for you:

In 2001, an operation known as "Dark Winter" was launched which was a real-world exercise that tested the emergency response to a bioterror attack on the United States. The simulation spiraled out of control within a few days, and predicted that a "breakdown in essential institutions," civil disorder, and massive civilian casualties. This event came true when a virus was created that attached to bank notes (nicknamed the "Dollar Flu" due to its its infection vector), circulated on Black Friday causing within a day an international pandemic. Manhattan, where the gameplay is set, is where the virus originated and the effects of the viral pandemic were the worst.

Gyllenhaal will play an agent working with the Strategic Homeland Division tasked with helping to rebuild the Division’s operations in Manhattan, investigating the nature of the outbreak, and combating criminal activity in its wake.

There's a solid team of talent involved with this movie so hopefully it's good! They've certainly got a great story to work with!

See Artist Kay Pike Paint Herself to Look Like a Shockingly Accurate C-3PO

Artist, designer, and model Kay Pike has truly outdone herself this time. We've showcased her work before when she painted herself up as Thanos, SupermanCheetara, Lady Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, and Nebula, but now she's taken inspiration from a galaxy far, far away and painted herself to look like a surprisingly accurate version of C-3PO, one of the Star Wars franchise's most famous droids. Looks like she went with the Force Awakens version of the character, complete with the red arm. I'm always impressed at the level of accuracy she achieves with her "cospaint" projects — especially when she chooses a character that doesn't match her gender.
