Mike Colter Discusses Luke Cage's Role in THE DEFENDERS and His Friendship With Iron Fist

The Defenders news continues to roll in with an interview with actor Mike Colter about the upcoming Marvel series. He discusses Luke Cage's role in the story and also the character's friendship with Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist. He begins by telling EW:

“It’s safe to say Cage is not going to spend the entire season of The Defenders behind bars. He’s been able to come clean and deal with his past… The difficulty with Cage [in the first season] is that he has this secret, he has this thing that he’s been trying to run away from and deal with, and that’s a big burden to bear. That weighs on you, that changes who you are as a person. Now that that’s out of the way, I think we can give him a different approach to life.”

He goes on to reveal that Cage will be acting as “the conciliator” for the group, explaining, “I’m the guy, the wisdom. If you want to make sure something works, run it up the flagpole.”

Showrunner Marco Ramirez adds, “Luke is someone who’s, in a very mature way, compartmentalized his life.”

Since Cage is taking on a more mature role in the group, he's looking at taking Finn Jones' Danny Rand under his wing and will be kind of a mentor to the character. When talking about their relationship, Colter says:

“He’s a young guy. There’s an exuberance that Iron Fist comes with that Luke Cage wants to temper a bit. It can’t help but have a wisdom-versus-youth quality… Danny comes out like a bull in a china shop in some ways, and I think Luke has seen the world and knows certain things. It’s a cool combination that’ll work out.”

I'm looking forward to seeing the friendship between these two characters grow. There's no doubt that their relationship dynamic in the series was inspired by the Heroes for Hire comic book series. Colter goes on to say:

“We definitely want to pay homage to the fanboys, but we want to make it make sense in this time period.”

Ramirez also made sure to remind us that Luke Cage is really the only member of the team who is "openly walking around as a hero," and “there’s a lot of pressure that comes with that.”

We'll make sure to keep you updated as the interviews with The Defenders actors continue to roll in. Marvel’s The Defenders arrives on Netflix this summer. I'm hoping that we get to see a trailer for this series soon!

Mark Hamill Reunites With His Original Prop Lightsaber From STAR WARS in POP CULTURE QUEST Clip

I've got a very cool exclusive clip from the upcoming episode of Mark Hamill's Comic-Con HQ series Pop Culture Quest. The episode is called "Raider of the Lost Props," and in the clip, Hamill reunites with his original lightsaber prop from Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi! This is something that he hasn't seen in years, and he learns that the lightsaber was basically a refurbished version of the lightsaber that Alec Guinness used in the original Star Wars film, A New Hope. It must've been cool for Hamill to hold that lightsaber hilt again after all these years! I wish I owned cool movie stuff like this!

Here's a description of the upcoming episode:

There was a time before the internet where collecting required a boots-on-ground approach. Collector Brandon Alinger took this phase to the next level when he convinced his family to travel to Tunisia in search of movie props. Follow along as Brandon explains the extreme lengths he’s gone to obtain some of the most notable movie props in the history of Hollywood Cinema.

"Raider of the Lost Props" is set to air next week on Tuesday on Comic-Con HQ!

The DEADPOOL Oscar Campaign Begins With a Funny "For Your Consideration" Video

As you know, Deadpool has been getting a lot of award love from some prestigious film awards such as The Golden Globes, the Writers Guild of America, and the Producers Guild of America. This means that Deadpool actually has a shot at landing an Oscar nomination, and to help in the efforts to lock in that nomination, Ryan Reynolds has released a funny "For Your Consideration" Oscar campaign video that highlights some wonderful Deadpool silliness such as "4 pairs of assless chaps," "12 humiliating minutes on a casting couch," "7 magical unicorns," "3 good walls and a 4th that's broken." "42 rejection letters from Fox," and more. I hope it actually ends up landing some nominations!

Hugh Jackman Releases a Brief Official Synopsis for LOGAN

Hugh Jackman has released a new synopsis for his final Wolverine film, Logan, that offers a little bit of new insight into the story. This is actually the first official synopsis from the studio. Everything else we've had has been pieced together from interviews and other sources.

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

We've previously learned that the story is set in 2024 and that it's loosely based on the Old Man Logan comic series. We know that Logan is sick and that his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly and his wounds now leave scars.

We've also seen the first incredible trailer that introduced us to the characters in the film, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X who teams up with Logan to protect X-23, played by Dafne Keen. That trailer was still light on plot details, but I'm sure that will all change when a new trailer is released in the near future. It's sure to be packed with a ton of new footage and story details.

Logan is set for release on March 3rd, 2017

Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead Confirmed to Return for DEADPOOL 2

Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead were such fun characters in the first Deadpool movie, and I hoped that they would be back for the sequel. With Cable coming into play, you never know how the creative team might shake things up. Thankfully, they plan on keeping Colossus and Negasonic around for Deadpool 2.

During an interview with Collider, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were asked if those characters would return, and this was their response:

PAUL WERNICK: I can’t say how much they are…
RHETT REESE: I think we can say. Yeah, they’ll be in the sequel.
WERNICK: Yeah, they’ll make at least an appearance.

They were hesitant on saying how much the characters would be in the film, but the site speculates that Deadpool 2 could be "irreverent enough to kill them both off immediately or seriously [bulk] up their roles in an attempt to lead the way to an X-Force movie."

So, maybe there's a chance they could shake things up a bit with these characters, but I hope that they end up having a much larger role in the story because the three characters all had such great chemistry together. It'd be fun to see that relationship continue to grow.

Surprise! Ice Cube Returns to the XXX Franchise in New Spot for XXX: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE

"X takes care of its own."

It was just revealed in a new TV spot for xXx: Return of Xander Cage that Ice Cube will be reprising his role from xXx: State of the Union. It's pretty incredible that the studio managed to keep this a secret for so long. I think it's something that they should've held on to until people went and saw the movie as it would have been a cool surprise for the fans of the franchise.

There's no indication of how big of a role Cube will have in the film, but I imagine it won't be very big. He'll probably come in to kick a little ass then leave. Hell, this little bit in the trailer might very well be the extent of his involvement! We'll just have to wait and see.

Extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) comes out of self-imposed exile, thought to be long dead, and is set on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang (Donnie Yen) and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora's Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage is set to be released on January 20, 2017.

TREMORS 6 Is Scheduled to Start Shooting Next Week; Burt Is Off to Africa

Who would've thought that the Tremors movie franchise would last this long? Franchise star Michael Gross has enjoyed being part of the franchise all these years as Burt Gummer, and last year he announced that Tremors 6 was going to happen. Well, we have news that the film will start shooting next week. The news comes from Gross himself on Facebook, and he confirms that Jamie Kennedy will join him again as their characters travel to South Africa to battle those crazy deadly worm creatures.

The first film in the franchise with Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward is my favorite, but I've enjoyed all of the sequels that have followed it no matter how ridiculous they are. So, it's cool that there's another chapter coming, but what I'm most excited for is the TV series that's being developed with Bacon reprising his role of Valentine McKee.

Out of all the characters from the original film, though, Gross's Gummer is the best! It makes sense that he would be the one to carry the franchise as far as it has come. Hopefully he'll be included in the series!

I love Pop-Tarts. They were my favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I was a kid. I miss the days when I could just eat anything without any consequences!

I've got a series of awesomely horrific fan-made Pop-Tart designs created by artist Newt Cloninger-Clements. The horror movie themed designs were inspired by films such as
Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elmstreet, Jaws, The Exorcist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nosferatu, and more.

I have to say that my favorite is the Evil Dead design, which is a Pop-Tart that looks like the Book of the Dead!

The Highly Acclaimed Japanese Anime Film YOUR NAME Now Has a U.S. Release Date

I've been hearing a lot of great things about the Japanese anime film Your Name, which was recently the recipient of the Best Animated Feature at the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards and is a likely contender for the Best Animated Film at the Oscars.

The film was directed by Makoto Shinkai, and the story follows two teenagers named Mitsuha and Taki "who mysteriously and randomly swap bodies. They are strangers, but they build a strong connection as their lives become intertwined. As they try to meet, they also aim to use their powers to prevent a disaster."

The film was a huge hit in Japan and has become the fourth highest-grossing film ever released in the country, behind Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited AwayJames Cameron's Titanic, and Disney's Frozen.

Funimation Films picked up the North American rights to the film, and they plan to release it on April 7th. I have yet to see the film but it looks fantastic! If you haven't seen a trailer for it yet, you can check it out a previously released trailer below. it certainly looks like a beautifully animated film worth watching.

WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP Is the Latest Unnecessary Remake

$

The creator of ABC's Black-ish, Kenya Barris, is set to develop a remake of Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson's 1992 sports comedy White Men Can't Jump. Barris is teaming up with Mortal Media and Blake Griffin of the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers and Ryan Kalil of the NFL's Carolina Panthers to develop the project for 20th Century Fox. Mortal Media is also developing The Rocketeers for Disney, which centers around a black female Rocketeer lead.

Barris is set to write, direct, and produce the remake, which I think is completely unnecessary. The original film is great, and unless this remake could be a better movie, I don't see what the point is. Who knows, maybe Barris can make a better movie, but remakes are hardly ever better than the original film. It also doesn't seem like a film that is screaming to be remade.

The original movie centered around two street basketball hustlers who at first try to hustle each other, then team up to hustle other people for a lot more money. Rosie Perez also starred in the film as Harrelson's girlfriend.

I can't say that I'm excited about this at the moment. We'll wait to see what kind of remake we're dealing with when a trailer is released.

Thrilling, Action-Packed, Bloody Trailer for INTO THE BADLANDS Season 2

"Fight for redemption. Fight for family."

AMC has released the first trailer for the upcoming second season of Into the Badlands, and it looks like it's going to be awesomely crazy. The trailer is filled with extremely cool martial arts action mixed in with a good amount of bloody madness.

The series is set to return in March, and it looks like they dialed everything up to an eleven. Oh yeah! Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) is in it as well, and he's got some pretty sweet fighting skills. He plays a character named Bajie, a mining slave who becomes the traveling companion of Sunny (Daniel Wu).

I don't know if you watched the first season of this show or not, but it's a badass genre-bending martial arts series that's totally worth checking out. Here's the synopsis for season two:

Into the Badlands Season 2 finds Sunny (Daniel Wu) and M.K. (Aramis Knight) separated and scattered to the wind, each imprisoned in unlikely places. While M.K. struggles to control his powers, Sunny is determined to fight his way back into the Badlands to find his family or die trying. On their journey, Clipper and Colt are assisted by mysterious new allies whose motivations may be anything but pure. Meanwhile, The Widow (Emily Beecham) continues to consolidate power against the other Barons while a dark and mysterious threat prepares to exact revenge on them all. Alliances are struck, friendships betrayed and, by season's end, Sunny and M.K.'s lives will be forever altered with devastating consequences.

Into the Badlands premieres on March 19th on AMC.

DIE HARD Director John McTiernan Returns After 14 Years to Direct Live-Action GHOST RECON WILDLANDS Commercial

Die Hard director John McTiernan has been MIA in the director's chair for the past 14 years. He hasn't directed anything since his 2003 film project Basic with John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson. That's a long time to be out of commission, but it looks like maybe he'll make some kind of a comeback.

Well, he quietly jumped back into directing action with a live-action trailer for the upcoming video game Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, which I embedded for you below to watch. The director proves that he's still got it, as the commercial has a strong, intense build-up with a cat and a sniper, and it's awesomely executed with its slick and fun style.

The commercial is short, but I loved what I saw, and it'd be awesome to see McTiernan come back and direct another action film! Hell! He should direct the Ubisoft's live-action Ghost Recon movie, which is being produced by Michael Bay. I have no idea if this is the start of a comeback for McTiernan, but I hope it is.

M. Night Shyamalan Wants to Get in on Some STRANGER THINGS Directing Action

$

Director M. Night Shyamalan wants to jump on board the Stranger Things creative train and direct an episode of season two. I'd actually be ok with Shyamalan directing a Stranger Things episode, I really liked his last movie, The Visit, and his upcoming thriller Split looks great as well.

There's actually a good chance that Shyamalan could direct an episode as he has already worked with the Duffer Brothers. They were writers on his series Wayward Pines. That was their first real gig. So with Shyamalan giving them their big break, the least they could do is let him direct an episode.

In an interview with Digital Spy, the filmmaker said:

"My boys who do Stranger Things, they did Wayward Pines for me. They were round my house and I was like, 'Well, you can hire me back guys!'"

It'd be interesting to see if the Duffers ask him to direct an episode. One thing is for sure, Stranger Things is the kind of project where Shyamalan can let his talents fly. He also talked about his reboot of the cult '90s series Tales from the Crypt, which is currently in limbo due to some rights issues. He explained:

"I really want to do that and hopefully I still will, but it's hugely complicated. It's particularly difficult because of the rights issues. There are so many estates involved and people involved from the original...."

Shyamalan has a long line of bad film projects over the years, but I hope he continues this new streak of good projects he's been involved with. Would you like to see him take on a Stranger Things episode?

Karen Gillan Discusses Nebula and Teases Her "Emotional Crack" in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Yesterday we learned that Karen Gillan's Nebula will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which was cool to hear! Nebula is one of my favorite characters from Guardians of the Galaxy, and today we've learned some additional details about her role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

In an interview with The Wrap, Gillan explains that we are going to see a more sympathetic Nebula this time around as she will be joining the Guardians team. She starts off by talking about Nebula's daddy issues, saying:

“What I love about the second movie for Nebula in particular is that we get — We know that she’s a pretty angry woman with some daddy issues. [But] in the second movie, we’re going to start to see how much pain her father actually caused her, and we’re going to delve right into the relationship with her sister Gamora.”

The actress goes on to say that we will start to see the emotional crack in the character and that fans will see some sympathy for the character.

“I think we might even feel a tinge of sympathy towards Nebula this time, because we really start to see the emotional crack in her character. I was just allowed to completely explore that and take it to a completely different dimension with her. I was really happy about that.”

I'm excited to see how this character develops throughout the course of the MCU films along with the rest of the characters from Guardians of the Galaxy! The James Gunn-directed film is set to be released on May 7th.

Intense Trailer for Netflix's New Thriller THE DISCOVERY with Jason Segel and Robert Redford

$

We have the first trailer for Netflix's new film The Discovery, and this movie looks incredibly good. The film has a fantastic cast of actors that includes Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, Robert Redford, Jesse Plemons, and Riley Keough

The concept behind the film is pretty messed up, as it takes place in a world where million of people are committing suicide to get to an afterlife that has been proven to exist.

The film has a very Twilight Zone kind of vibe to it, and I absolutely love the way this trailer plays out. It starts out like a happy looking kind of story then transforms into something dark and disturbing. This movie looks intense as hell, and I can't wait to see it at Sundance later this month. Here's the synopsis:

One year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified, millions around the world have ended their own lives in order to “get there”. A man and woman fall in love while coming to terms with their own tragic pasts and the true nature of the afterlife.

The Discovery was directed by Charlie McDowell from a script written by Justin Lader, and it will premiere on Netflix on March 31.

SPACE JAM Gets Dunked in a New Honest Trailer

ScreenJunkies is back with a brand new Honest Trailer, and they're turning their attention to the 1996 live-action/animation hybrid Space Jam. No amount of nostalgia should ever hide the fact that this is a godawful movie, but it seems inevitable that there will be people who show up in the comments to try to defend it. Look, I'm not attacking your childhood or your experience seeing this movie when you were a kid. I'm just saying that if you watch it now, hopefully with a better developed sense of taste than you had when you were ten, it does not hold up at all. (And neither does The Goonies, by the way. Come at me!)
