THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Motion Poster

"Every Revolution Starts With a Spark."

Lionsgate has released a pretty cool animated logo for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It automatically starts on its own. The sequel is being directed by Francis Lawrence, who will also be directing the two Mockingjay movies as well.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour' of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) - a competition that could change Panem forever.

The movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Toby Jones, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer, Lynn Cohen, Patrick St. Esprit, Meta Golding, Bruno Gunn, Alan Ritchson, E. Roger Mitchell, Maria Howell, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Sam Claflin and Jeffrey Wright.

The movie will be released in theaters and IMAX on November 22nd, 2013. I liked the first movie, and I'm hoping the sequel turns out better than the first one.

Vin Diesel revealed on his Facebook page today that we will get our first look at Fast & Furious 6 during Super Bowl XLVII on February 3rd, 2013. The movie still doesn't have an official title, I've just been referring to it as Fast 6, but in the message Diesel refers to the film as Furious 6, so maybe that could be the title they are going with. Here's what he said...

Six years ago, we dared to dream that Fast and Furious could be something significant... special...

And yet, I don't think anyone is prepared for what will happen on memorial day 2013.

P.s. With as much talent as this production has... I am blessed to be a part of it...

First look at Furious 6 will be at the Super Bowl.

Justin Lin directed the new sequel, and it co-stars Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim and Gina Carano. It will be released in theaters on May 24th, 2013, and I hope it's awesome!

Marvel Phase One Box Set will Include Phase Two Tease

As you know the original Marvel Phase One box set was delayed due to a silly lawsuit over the packaging. The set will now be released in a new case on April 2nd, 2013, and it's going to include some more cool stuff. Most notably a tease for Marvel Phase two.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said in a recent interview with EW that it will include "footage, concept art, and a few new surprises" from Phase Two. As you already know by now Phase Two of Marvel's master cinematic plan includes Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and The Avengers 2. Who knows, maybe that Ant-Man test footage that was shown at comic-Con will be included as well.

The box set will also include deleted scenes that were not included in the previous Blu-ray releases, like an alternate ending to Thor, which you can watch over at EW. Feige went on to explain that, "We went back to the editor's assembly of each film and discovered some rare moments that dropped out of the films early on and had not been released on prior discs."

Marvel's Phase One box set includes ten discs of awesomeness featuring six movies that include Iron ManThe Incredible HulkIron Man 2Captain America: The First AvengerThor and The Avengers. The set will also include a 'working' Tesseract cube and S.H.I.E.L.D. files on most of the characters. Feige teased, "look for a nod to Iron Man 3 in the Tony Stark S.H.I.E.L.D. file in the box set." He went on to admit,

We spent an embarrassing amount of time compiling the ‘Shield Files’ included in the box set to be sure that each character's file was full of great, movie-accurate props and Easter eggs, which help tie all of the Phase one [Marvel Comics Universe] films together.

Sounds like something any hardcore Marvel fan will want to get their hands on!

Exclusive Clip for the Superhero Comedy ALTER EGOS

We've got an exclusive clip to show you from the superhero indie comedy Alter Egos. The film is being distributed by Kevin Smith's Smodcast Pictures, and it looks like it could be a fun movie. The story is set in a world in which superheroes have lost government funding and public support. The clip features one of the superhero characters distracted by what is going on in his love life.

It was written and directed by Jordan Galland and stars Kris Lemche, Brooke Nevin, Joey Kern, Christine Evangelista, Sean Lennon, John Ventimiglia and Danny Masterson.

Here's the synopsis:

Alter Egos inhabits a fantasy world where superheroes are a dime a dozen. If you have the powers, as lead supers Fridge (Kris Lemche), and C-Thru (Joey Kern), do, then, well, you can practice them for good, as long as you follow the guidelines, or at least some of them. Quite obviously, this is a parody of parodies and flips the superhero genre on its head. Like Superman, Fridge is dorky in his human clothes. Unlike Superman, it's not because he has to do so to keep his identity under wraps—more like he uses his superhero garb to explore different facets of his personality, as evidenced by the title. Somewhere along the storyline, he must tackle the fact that his girlfriend loves his superhero identity more than his unmasked self, and, naturally, face his nemesis, the man who killed his mom and dad—although he really doesn't want to.

The movie will be released on VOD on November 20th. Check out the clip.

Clip from THE WALKING DEAD - Will Rick Help Michonne?

This third season of The Walking Dead has been insanely incredible! I'm so excited to see what's going to happen next! In the last episode we saw Michonne walk up to the gates of the prison holding a basket of baby formula surrounded by walkers who pay her no mind. Rick sees her, the question is... will he help her? In this new clip from AMC we see the walkers start to realize Michonne isn't one of them. The next episode is titled "The Dead Come Knocking", and I can't wait to see worlds collide!

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER - New Action Packed Trailer

New Line Cinema has released a new action packed trailer for Bryan Singer's fantasy adventure Jack The Giant Slayer. If my memory serves me correctly this is only the second trailer for the film which has undergone a slight title change and has had a couple of different release dates after being delayed nearly a year. This new trailer is only the start of the publicity train that will lead this film into its March 1st, 2013 release date.

Synopsis:

Jack the Giant Slayer tells the story of an ancient war that is reignited when a young farmhand unwittinglyopens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend–and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

I'm liking everything I'm seeing aside from the oh so CGI giants roaming around. And is it just me or are most recent fantasy adventure movies all kind of feeling like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? Luckily the cast -- Nicholas Hoult, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eleanor Tomlinson and Ewan McGregor -- seems to be firing on all cylinders even if the graphics aren't quite yet.

New Trailer for the CG Animated Environmental Film EPIC

Another trailer has been released for Blue Sky's CG animated adventure Epic, which tells the story "of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it." This is very much an environmentally inspired film. The animation and and character designs are pretty cool looking, but I just don't find the story interesting.

The film is based on William Joyce's 1996 book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs. It was directed by Chris Wedge (Ice Age) and has a solid cast of voice actors that include Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson and Judah Friedlander.

Synopsis:

EPIC is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of ICE AGE and RIO, EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world... and ours.

The movie will be released on May 24th 2013. Check out the latest trailer!

Badass LOTR Wraith Hoodie!

Whoa! This is awesome! It's a Lord of the Rings inspired Wraith hoodie, and I want one. It comes from NYC "styling house" ØDD. It'd be kind of fun going out at night walking the dark streets of the city wearing this thing stopping people along the way saying... "Shiiiire... Baaaggiiiinsssss." It really is just a very cool hoodie design, and I thought you'd like to see it. Sorry, demon horses and dragons aren't included.

BAD KIDS GO TO HELL Trailer - The Breakfast Club as a Horror Film

Here's the trailer for a fun looking film called Bad Kids Go To Hell that gives us a look at what John Hughes' Breakfast Club might be like in a twisted horror film setting. Hell, Judd Nelson even stars in the movie as the head schoolmaster! The film was directed by Matthew Spradlin, and it's based off of his own graphic novel.

Synopsis:

Six private school high school kids find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8 hour incarceration, each of the six kids falls victim to a horrible “accident” until only one of them remains.

And as each of these spoiled rich kids bites the dust, the story takes on a series of humorous and frantic twists and turns.

Is one of the kids secretly evening the school’s social playing field? Or have the ghosts of prestigious Crestview Academy finally come to punish the school’s worst (and seemingly untouchable) brats?
One thing is for sure… Daddy’s money can’t save them now.

The movie also stars Ben Browder, Cameron Deane Stewart, Ali Faulkner, Roger Edwards, Marc Donato, Augie Duke, Amanda Alch, Jeffrey Schmidt and Chanel Ryan. It's set to get a limited theatrical release on on December 7th. It looks like it will be an amusing horror movie to watch.

ADAM SESSLER Joins Revision3's Game Division

A while ago, Adam Sessler of G4’s X-Play fame announced he was leaving the company and the show altogether. Many fans were in outrage. Not so much at Sessler himself, but more so at the television channel. You see, G4 has been going down a spiraling destruction course for quite a while now.

I personally cannot pinpoint exactly when this started, but I would assume it was around the time Olivia Munn decided to move on, and also around the time when the station started playing nonstop re-runs of Cops and Cheaters. Others would say that the channel was doomed from the start, when it initially merged with TechTV. But nevertheless the fact that we are losing more and more of our favorite geek/gamer programming is making people very sad (me included).

But now Sessler has re-emerged on another show, but you will not find this on your cable provider. He has joined the games division of Revision 3 as their Executive Producer and Editor-in-Chief. Sessler has been one of those voices that has been very well respected in the entire gaming community, so it’s great that we will be able to continue to get his crazy rants about both good and bad games.

He had this to say about his return to being in front of the camera:

This is something of a homecoming for me. I’m back in San Francisco where I grew up, where I worked at TechTV, and in addition, I get to work with some of my former colleague and friends from TechTV, Patrick Norton, Robert Heron, and a host of people that are behind the scenes.

Revision 3 has been doing some very great things in recent years, and it’s something to be said that they can make a very successful interent video company work. The addition of Sessler will be great for their games division. I just can’t wait to see him get into it with Desctrutoid’s Matt Scoville

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 Release Date Set

Paramount Pictures has set the release date for Paranormal Activity 5 for October 25th, 2013. I have no idea where producer Jason Blum plans to take the story for the fifth film, but the last movie wasn't as fun as I was hoping it would be. I guess it was bound to start loosing it's creepy factor, but as long as it keeps making money they'll keep making them.

Paranormal Activity 4, was the lowest grossing movie of the series, which tells you that the franchise isn't as popular as it once was, but it still turned a huge profit. The movie cost $5 million to make, and pulled in over $187 million. Of course they are going to make more of them! There's also the Latin-American spin-off film they are currently working on as well.

How many more films do you think we'll see from the franchise before Paramount decides to wrap it up?

Check out this great video called called Science Fiction: A Supercut featuring the 100 greatest sci-fi movies of all time. The video was created by YouTuber TheXanderLegacy, and I like how it includes a ton of awesome action-packed and iconic moments from these films that we love. Here's a note from the creator:

A remix video of over 100 science fiction movies. This took about a month of editing. In regards to the weird aspect ratio, we had to crop it because we were working with so many weird formats. The song is the Glitch Mob remix "Monday," original by Nalepa.

I just have to add that Speed Racer is an awesome movie and doesn't get enough love. Enjoy the sci-fi supercut!

Disney Princesses Wearing Slave Leia Costumes in Jabba's Palace

Jabba the Hut must be in heaven right now. This awesome illustration was created by Deviant Artist thecreatorhd, and instead of Princess Leia as his slave, the artist envisioned all of the Disney Princesses in the Slave Leia costume. The piece is called Disney Princesses in Jabba's Palace, and it gives us a cool, different little twist on the Star Wars / Disney merger. I'm not quite sure which Disney Princess pulls off the Slave Leia look best, but there's definitely a couple who don't pull it off at all.

Hey there Mario fans, we have a pretty cool fan made parody trailer for the Mario Kart game. But just being a well made trailer is not the cool part, the fact that it spoofs the hit film Drive with Ryan Gosling is what makes it pretty damn awesome.

DrCoolSex over at YouTube (yea man, you might want to change that name, just sayin’) has produced his take on the hit game as a film, featuring all our favorite Nintendo characters. Now if only we could get a full length movie, it would make many gamers truly happy.

Watch this test footage for a cool looking sci-fi short film called Prospect that tells the story of a girl and her father as they hunt for valuable resin on a toxic planet. When her father is attacked, she is forced to grow up quick.

The film is being produced by SHEP Films, a Seattle production company founded by Zeek Earl (Director, DP) and Chris Caldwell (Director, Writer). They are trying to raise funds for their film via Kickstarter so you can click here to learn more about the project. Here's some more information on the story.

PROSPECT is an unusual coming-of-age story following a teenage girl and her father on a foreign planet as they hunt for resin, the valuable byproduct of rare insects. Inspired in part by the California Gold Rush, the film features a planet of desperate individuals seeking their fortunes, governed only by natural law. When the father is attacked by a roving bandit, the daughter must take vengeance.

The creative team developing the film will be creating custom made costumes and props for the movie to give it a unique feel. It will also be shot in Washington's Hoh Rainforest as the setting for the alien planet. Check out the test footage that's been shot and let us know if you think it could be a good film!
