The New X-MEN Series Will Take Place in the X-MEN Cinematic Universe

Burn Notice creator Matt Nix has been developing a new untitled X-Men TV seriesm and he recently talked to a handful of journalists about his plans for the show. Two of the main things he reveals are that the series is very close to happening and that it will connect with the X-Men cinematic universe. Collider was there to get the following quotes:

“Without getting into specifics that I’ll get murdered for, I would say that a fan of the movies — particularly the movies but also the comic books — would not be disoriented as to where this fits in the mythology. If you look at the movies that take place, they don’t all line up perfectly. So it’s not like I’m slavishly fitting myself into a particular slot [but] if you like that world and the world of the movies, there are definite nods to it, it definitely exists in the same general universe.”

He went on to explain that the connection between the series and the cinematic universe will be similar to the way Agents Of SHIELD fits in with the Marvel cinematic universe, which really isn't much of a connection right now. He also talked about how he pitched the series to the network, saying:

“Without getting into specifics, it’s sort of designed to side-step questions like ‘Where is Wolverine?’ So you sort of have to answer those questions, and I didn’t want to do anything like ‘Wolverine is just offscreen!’ You know what I mean. So it exists in a world where those questions are answered without needing to name a lot of names or spend time dwelling on that issue. So within that, there are a certain amount of those characters I can use, and I’m using some of those, but others I’m inventing. But everything is invented with a nod towards the existing mythology. When I was pitching the show, I pitched some characters that appear nowhere in the mythology, but the guys from Marvel, when I started describing them, all gave each other knowing nods. It was like ‘Oh I see what he’s doing, yes.’ So I tried to do a lot of that. I didn’t want to get into the realm of too much ‘Yep! New X-Men here we go!’ because with this there’s a little bit of fan service.”

There are no details on which mutant characters will be involved with the upcoming X-Men series, but we know that it will focus on "two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive."

It's said that this series will be the first collaboration between Marvel TV and Fox, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Intriguing Detailed Synopsis for Nicolas Winding Refn's New Film THE AVENGING SILENCE

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn has been working on a new film project called The Avenging Silence, which sounds incredibly interesting., He's been developing it with James Bond screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and the Tokyo-set thriller will focus on a mute man who is a former spy on a mission to assassinate the head of a yakuza family.

According to The Playlist, the movie came from the director's desire to make “a big extravagant action film.” The site also did some digging and found a full detailed synopsis at Crouching Tigers Project Lab that is sure to get fans of Refn excited for his new project:

The spy was one of the leading spies in Europe. An injury inflicted to his vocal cords during a failed mission six years ago left him mute, forcing him to leave his profession. Now, six years later, he is sought out and put on confidential assignment by a former Yakuza, now a retired Japanese businessman in exile in France, to track down and kill the head of the most dangerous Yakuza family in Japan.

Afraid of flying, our spy anonymously boards a cargo ship headed for Tokyo. An onboard explosion sinks the ship and our spy finds himself washed ashore on a life raft in southern Japan. As a mute, our spy must silently journey through Japan seeking 4 clues – symbolizing conquest, war, famine, and death – which will guide him to the unknown location of the Yakuza boss. Meanwhile, the Yakuza boss, known for his 2004 mass slaughter of Yakuza members who had turned against him, is believed to be plotting to reenter the Japanese underworld after living in his own surreptitious world in the mountains, void of all technology. This way of life becomes an obsession for the Yakuza boss. Rumors spread that he had committed suicide years ago but escaped prisoners from his hidden camp told stories of his plan for a comeback. Now rival Yakuza families suspect he is forming a master plan to return, a plan that unburies the most infamous story of Yakuza betrayal.

Our spy finds himself on an existential journey through Japan in search of pieces to the puzzle that will lead him to a confrontation with the ultimate Yakuza boss in a terrifying conclusion.

This definitely has all the signature story and character points that Refn likes to work with in his films that also include Bronson, Only God Forgives, and his most recent film, The Neon Demon. His films are definitely an acquired taste for general audiences, but this next film of his sounds like it might be a movie with a coherent plot.

I do love the idea of a mute former spy taking on the yakuza in Japan! I'm sure Refn has some cool things planned for it. I wonder if he'll cast Ryan Gosling as the main character.

Here's a Ninja Turtle Robe, Complete With Interchangeable Masks

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have had bizarre staying power in pop culture. They were mega-popular when I was growing up in the '80s and '90s, and through various iterations and a steady stream of movies over the years, they've managed to remain popular for multiple generations. So it's probably safe to say there are a lot of you out there who, at one point or another (during childhood or otherwise), imagined you were a Ninja Turtle. And now GeekAlerts has, uh, alerted us to a way for you to kind of make that happen: Entertainment Earth has a bright green TMNT robe that comes complete with interchangeable masks so you can role play as your favorite turtle after you take a shower or while you have your coffee in the morning. You do you. No judgments here.

This sucker is 100% polyester, and though the picture doesn't prove it, it does indeed have a shell on the back (as if that was the make-or-break aspect to this for someone out there). You can pre-order it now for $45.99, and it's supposed to ship later this month.

"Kong is God on the island, but the devils live below us."

Warner Bros. has released a Japanese trailer for Legendary Pictures' Kong: Skull Island, and it's pretty damn exciting! It features some cool new footage and perfectly sets the tone of the kind of movie that it's going to be. There are certainly going to be a lot of crazy new creatures to deal with other than Kong and some epic fiery destruction.

The new film follows a team of explorers who venture deep inside the treacherous, primordial island to find the leader's brother and a mythical serum, confronting extraordinary creatures along the way.

The movie has a great cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John GoodmanKong: Skull Island was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, and it's set to be released on March 10th, 2017.

The Nerdwriter Analyzes How SHERLOCK Films Thought

I don't know about you, but I thought this past Sunday's episode of BBC's Sherlock, entitled "The Lying Detective," was a huge improvement over the first episode of this season. I'm not a huge fan of the whole "Mary Watson spycraft" angle, so to see that put on the back burner in favor of a story about Sherlock reuniting with John Watson to stop a serial killer (with the always-solid Amanda Abbington still very much in the picture in John's mind) was a glorious change of pace and I think it's exactly what the show needed.

In a new video essay, the Nerdwriter analyzes the singular way this show films the thoughts of its title character. It's a nice breakdown of one particular series of revelations in the episode, and a good look at the inventive and sophisticated storytelling methods utilized by the directors of this show. I'm looking forward to seeing how next week's episode goes, and whether or not it will serve as not only the season finale, but also the final episode of the entire show.

Batman: The Animated Series is easily one of the greatest animated series ever made. If you grew up in the '90s experiencing its greatness, you're a very lucky individual. Every single episode was incredible, and one of the reasons because of that was because the writing was fantastic.

All of the writers on the series received a Writer's Bible full of details and insight about how the show and its characters were to be handled. It proves that the production team knew exactly what they wanted out of this show from the very beginning.

The Writer's Bible was written by Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, and Mitch Brian, and it outlined every little detail of the series. It includes the plans for all of the characters, including the supporting characters in the Batman universe that they created. It also offers a ton of concept art and info on the format of the series.

I included a few images from the Bible below for you to check out, but to go through all 153-pages, click here.

FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper Steps Out of the Shadows in New TWIN PEAKS Teaser

A new teaser has been released for David Lynch's Twin Peaks revival for Showtime. This latest spot gives us our first look at the return of Kyle MacLachlan as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper. It gives us absolutely no plot information at all. Just some scenery from Twin Peaks and that soothing musical theme. I also included a video featuring the cast and crew talking about returning to the series.

Directed entirely by David Lynch, the new SHOWTIME limited event series picks up twenty-five years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town were stunned when their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered.
Widely considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential broadcast series of all time, TWIN PEAKS followed the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town who were stunned after their homecoming queen Laura Palmer was shockingly murdered. The town’s sheriff welcomed the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who came to town to investigate the case. As Cooper conducted his search for Laura’s killer, the town’s secrets were gradually exposed. The mystery that ensued set off an eerie chain of events that plunged the inhabitants of Twin Peaks into a darker examination of their very existence. Twenty-five years later, the story continues…

Twin Peaks is set to return on May 21 at 9 PM ET/PT on Showtime with the first two episodes. There's also a chance it could be screening at Sundance later this month. I can't wait to jump back into the crazy dark and wacky world of Twin Peaks!

I built crazy stuff like this when I was a teenager, but I left those days behind me because I kept hurting myself!

In Case You Had Any Doubt, Tom Holland Confirms Spider-Man Will Be in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

I think it's always been safe to assume that Spider-Man would be back in action fighting alongside the Avengers in Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War. However, there's been no official confirmation until now, so if any of you had any doubt, Tom Holland confirmed it in an interview with Vogue. After all, the last we heard from Holland on the matter was that Spider-Man's inclusion in the film was "all up in the air."

The first tweet below shows the full article in another language and the second one show the roughly translated confirmation in which Holland said:

"It is they who convinced the Marvel (Downey and Evans)... the producers wanted to be sure that I was the right person before you entrust three films over the next four years, including Avengers: Infinity War."

The next two Avengers films are sure to be something insanely epic. We only know that there are going to be a ton of superhero characters involved, including a team-up of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, and that they will be battle Thanos. I can't help but think that this is going to be an intense film, and I imagine that when they battle Thanos, not all of the heroes will make it out alive. Who knows, maybe Iron Man and Captain America will die holding hands.

The Screenplay for the UNCHARTED Movie Is Complete

Don't get too excited, but a major part of getting the Uncharted film off the ground has finally been completed! Screenwriter Joe Carnahan has officially completed the screenplay for the Uncharted movie! Carnahan, who also wrote The Grey, celebrated the occasion on Instagram with the post below...

Done and Dusted. Now the REAL work begins. If there's a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood right now, I wanna read it, 'cuz this thing is a BEAST.

A photo posted by Joe Carnahan (@carnojoe) on

As our buddies at Slashfilm have pointed out, there's still a long way to go before this film is in production! So many things could go wrong from here on out that it's almost not even worth celebrating as this whole thing could be derailed as soon as later today. Let's not dwell on that, though. Let's celebrate the little victory that the world could soon be getting an award-winning video game movie!

Shawn Levy is set to direct the film. If it makes it that far.

DEADPOOL Just Got a PGA Nomination! It Has a Real Shot at Getting a Best Picture Oscar Nom!

Deadpool is surprisingly making some serious movement with the 2016 movie awards! It's been nominated for a Writers Guild Award, two Golden Globe Awards, won a Critics' Choice Award, and now it's been nominated for one of the most prestigious awards yet... the Producers Guild of America Award.

It was named with nine other nominated films, which are Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight. This means that Deadpool seriously has a very real shot at getting a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards.

Yeah, it probably won't win against the other heavy contenders, but the fact that it might get nominated is still very cool nonetheless. Deadpool would actually be the first comic book superhero movie nominated for a Best Picture Oscar! That kind of blows my mind because Marvel has made some incredible films, many of which fans would say are better films than Deadpool. Hell, even Christopher Nolan's masterpiece The Dark Knight wasn't nominated for Best Picture, and it totally should have been!

I'm happy for Deadpool, though, and it's so cool that it's being recognized for its comedic greatness. Now let's wait and see if it gets that Oscar nomination.

Chris Hemsworth Calls THOR: RAGNAROK "One of the Best Experiences I've Ever Had"

It would appear Chris Hemsworth is just as hype as the rest of the world when it comes to the release of Thor: Ragnarok! CBM writes the actor had high praise for the film, particularly director Taika Waititi...

"It was one of the best experiences I've had, he's incredible. If you've seen any of his films, they give you an indication of the tone of what this is going to be, which is very different to what we've seen before."

That's good to hear as I personally always thought the Thor films could be better than they have in the past.

Hemsworth had little to say about Avengers: Infinity War, though, as he still hasn't received a script even though he's supposed to be on set in a couple weeks! Hemsworth indicates that's not surprising and that it's just what Marvel does. Seeing as he wasn't present in Civil War, I have to wonder how large his role will be in the upcoming ensemble film.

Finally, Hemsworth commented that he would indeed be returning to the Star Trek films where he will reprise his role as George Kirk. He didn't say much other than the fact that he's spoken to J.J. Abrams and said his pitch for the film is "amazing."

Sounds like Thor has some good stuff coming his way on the horizon, and I'm excited for all of them! I'm especially curious how Kirk's father will be brought back into the series! Let's hope it's one of those weird dimensional crossovers and not some throwaway flashback scene!

A new film seeks to immerse viewers in the minds of those affected by the 2012 theater shootings in Aurora, Colorado. Dark Night is a very loose adaptation of the events leading up to the fateful night when a shooter entered a screening of The Dark Knight Rises and killed 12 people. Check out the trailer and continue on below...

The film will follow six people, including the shooter, as they live out their day leading up to the shooting that night. The film is definitely more arthouse style than thriller, so if you plan on seeing it, know what you're getting into first. The film is set to open February 3rd in select theaters.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Darth Vader Sideshow Collectibles Action Figure Review

star-wars-rogue-one-darth-vader-sideshow-collectibles-action-figure-review-social.jpg

Sideshow Collectibles recently sent me their badass 1/6th scale collectible action figure for Darth Vader from Star Wars: Rogue One to review, so I happily obliged! I'm not going to turn down the opportunity to review an incredible Darth Vader action figure, and this thing is amazing!

This is seriously the ultimate Darth Vader collectible and any hardcore Star Wars fan who collects toys would just throw their money at it to get it. I did an unboxing video review for it that you can watch below. A few people didn't want me to open it or take it out of the box, and as much as I don't want to I have to so that I can actually review it and play with it.

I'll be honest, it's actually kind of refreshing to open it up and play with it a bit! That's all part of the joy of getting a new toy! Sure, the value of it goes down, but holding the Darth Vader figure in your hands and actually feeling the material and getting a close look at all the details is so worth it.

Hot Toys and Sideshow put a lot of work and effort into creating these figures; it would be a shame if no one ever took them out of the box! But I completely understand not doing that, and I have a ton of figures that I've spent money on that have never been opened.

Anyway, these guys did a spectacular job creating this figure for Darth Vader. It stands at 35 cm tall and has a body with over 30 points of articulation. It also comes with nine interchangeable hands with different dynamics. Vader comes complete with his finely detailed lightsaber and his function belt that actually has an LED light-up function.

The newly designed suit and armor on Vader is tailored to fit the figure perfectly, and it comes with the black cloak that I forgot about until I tried taking the figure out of the box, and it was kinda stuck. It's at that moment I realized that this is the first Hot Toys or Sideshow figure that I own that has a cape because I clearly didn't know what I was doing when I was taking it out of the box.

This is the ultimate Darth Vader collectible, and if you haven't ordered one yet then you missed out on something special. I wouldn't worry, though. I'm sure they'll make another Darth Vader figure! Below the video you'll find a collection of photos I took of the figure.

Darth Vader returns in force this year with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! The epic space saga film takes place just before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, a time when the Galactic Empire is at the peak of its power, whereas the fledgling Rebel Alliance plots to thwart the Empire's plan to build a moon-sized battle station. As the Emperor's top enforcer and the symbol of the Empire's reign of terror, Lord Vader will crush the Rebels by any means necessary.

While fans worldwide are holding their breath to experience the new film, Sideshow and Hot Toys are here to unleash the power of the Dark Side with the new sixth scale Darth Vader collectible figure!

The movie-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted featuring a newly developed body and armor, a new highly polished helmet sculpt, a sophisticatedly tailored and delicately textured costume, a utility belt with LED lights, a lightsaber hilt, and a Death Star theme figure stand.
