UNCHARTED: FIGHT FOR FORTUNE - Defeat Your Foes With Cards

0
0

For the last couple of weeks, there has been some mumblings about a new Uncharted game on the horizon. I assumed that it was going to be Vita related, and I didn't think it would be a sequel to Golden Abyss. Before today's announcement, I thought that it would be DLC or something of the like, not a card game.

That's right! You heard me correctly, a card game! Uncharted: Fight for Fortune is going to be a card battle game set in the Uncharted universe with all of your favorite characters (and henchmen). Don't get all upset and tell me that they are ruining the franchise and blah, blah, blah. This is a small, standalone product that looks as if it was made only for fun. The price point of $4.99 is telling and the fact that it is only going to be on the Vita. Let's be thankful that Naughty Dog (no, they did not develop this one, I know) did not go the way of their past franchises and make a Kart game.

From what I can tell, this is a standard card battle game (it has a campaign!) with things like power cards and hit points. Then again, I don't know too much about the world of card dueling, so maybe ask someone else?

The thing that will make it for Vita owners, is that it pulls artifacts you collected from Uncharted: Golden Abyss and you can use them as power-ups. Owning the Golden Abyss is not necessary, but it certainly sweetens the deal. The guys over at Bend Studio are looking for a good time and I doubt they expect to blow anyone away. It would be kinda great if this game became a huge hit, though.

Uncharted: Fight for Fortune will be out on December 4th via the Playstation Store.

YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES is Getting Remade

Paramount Pictures is planning to remake the classic 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes. Christopher Columbus is producing the project and they are in talks with Disney DVD movie scribe Evan Spiliotopoulos to write the script for the movie.

I loved watching this movie growing up, and it was the first movie to incorporate realistic CG animation with that awesome stained glass window Knight coming to life. The original film was produced by Steven Spielberg, directed by Barry Levinson, and written by Columbus. The story centered on Holmes and Watson after they meet at a British boarding school and stumble upon a series of mysterious deaths and murders.

According to The Wrap the new story will basically be the same thing. It follows "Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they meet as teenagers in England, and embark on a series of sleuthing adventures."

I recently showed my kids the original movie and they loved it. I hope the remake ends up being just as entertaining. Some of the other films Spiliotopoulos has worked on include The Jungle Book 2, The Lion King 1 1/2, Tarzan 2, Cinderella 3, and a bunch of other straight to DVD Disney films. He's also writing Wanted 2.

If you haven't seen Young Sherlock Holmes yet, you have to watch it! Here's a clip from the film. Seeing this as a kid was so cool!

This a limited edition Darth Vader Pepsi Energy Cola. There's aren't many details on the product other than the only place you can find it is in Japan. Why does Japan get all the good stuff?! Why don't we see stuff like this in the states? There's a huge market for it.

4 More Actors Up for the Role of Harry Osborn in SPIDER-MAN 2

A few days ago we learned that Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) were up for the part of Harry Osborn in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Today we've learned four more young actors have been added to the list.

According to THR the the other four actors include Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman), Eddie Redmayne, (My Week With Marilyn and Les Miserables), Douglas Booth, (LOL and Noah) and Boyd Holbrook (The Big C, Hatfields & McCoys, and The Host).

At first we heard that the studio was looking for someone dark and edgy, but now apparently the producers and filmmakers are now looking actors with athleticism and good looks. Apparently they can't make up their minds. Who ever is cast in the movie will join Andrew GarfieldEmma Stone, Shailene Woodley, and maybe Jamie Foxx. Out of these choices I'd still like to Dehaan cast in the role. My second choice would be Redmayne.

James Franco played Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi's films, and he was great. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set to be released on May 2nd, 2014. Now that the choice of actors has grown, who would you like to see play the character now?

Pedro Almodovar Planning 1950's Inspired Sci-Fi Film

The Skin I Live In director Pedro Almodovar revealed that he is planning on making a sci-fi film inspired by his love for 1950's sci-fi movies like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Almodovar was speaking at BAFTA in London in which he said,

I am still young enough to make a science fiction movie. I have ideas for this genre. The way I would like to do it is present something impossible in a real, domestic way. One of the scripts on my desk is of that genre, so I hope to make that.

Don't expect it anytime soon though as he explains,

I live with my stories for many years. I write more like a novelist than a screenwriter.

I liked The Skin I Live In, and I'm always up for a new sci-fi film. Especially when they pay tribute to some of the classics. Will we see the return of pod people? We'll make sure to get you more information as it becomes available.

Paul Greengrass' Martin Luther King Movie MEMPHIS is Back on Track

Paul Greengrass' Martin Luther King Jr. film Memphis is back on track and moving forward. The project was previously set up at Universal Pictures, but they ended up dumping the project. Greengrass and producer Scott Rudin had issues finding financing after that happened and the project was shelved. They are now in talks with another company called Wild Bunch to finance the project. The movie will follow the final days of Martin Luther King Jr.'s life.

Greengrass wrote the script, it's based on his own original research, and it looks at King’s life while trying to organize the city’s sanitation workers in the spring of 1968, just before his murder on April 4 of that year. The film is supposed to give us a more human portrayal of King than some might expect. "By the spring of 1968, King’s personal and professional lives were in disarray: His marriage was faltering; he was chain-smoking, boozing, and packing on the pounds. King’s outspokenness on the Vietnam War cost him his relationship with President Johnson, and his newfound interest in labor organization and the urban poor put him on the fringes of the rising Black Power movement."

According to Deadline that whole storyline is "juxtaposed with an intense manhunt for King’s assassin James Earl Ray, involving some of the federal authorities who, at Hoover’s direction, had dogged King’s every step with wiretaps and whispering campaigns before the civil rights leader’s death."

King's heirs have their own film project being developed at DreamWorks. Apparently they don't like this human approach that Greengrass is taking on this film. Deadline also mentioned that the script for the film is "Oscar caliber stuff that was a powerful testament to King’s struggle and his sacrifice, even if he was portrayed as an imperfect human being."

This will most likely end up being Greengrass' next film. At least he hopes it will be. I have no doubt Greengrass will make a great movie out of this if he finally gets the chance. Greengrass has made films such as The Bourne Supremacy, United 93, The Bourne Ultimatum and Green Zone.

Kevin Eastman Compares NINJA TURTLES Movie to THE AVENGERS

It seems like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman is very excited about producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman's take on Ninja Turtles even though we've been hearing a bunch of negative stuff about it. Of course there's the chance we'll be blown away, especially if what Eastman is saying is true. He's comparing the movie to The Avengers in terms of “scope and roots origin,” which sounds cool in theory. Only time will tell if that is what the movie will turn out like that though. Here's what Eastman had to say about Lisbesman's vision for the movie in a recent interview with NBC 5 Chicago,

Jonathan Liebesman is going to make a great film. From what I’ve seen of the script, it’s fantastic. Michael Bay has made some great and intense movies. We’re talking about being inspired by movies like ‘The Avengers’ for scope and roots origin and ‘The Raid: Redemption’ for fight scenes and ‘Rise for the Apes’ as far as computer-quality style.

I think it's interesting that Eastman is excited about it, yet the other co-creator of the franchise Peter Laird isn't happy with what he's seen and read from the film at all. I guess it all depends on who you trust more. Eastman also did an interview with The Examiner in which he addressed the fans of the franchise saying,

I like to answer this by basically telling the fans first and foremost not to worry, this will be a great TMNT film. Much like many thirty year old concepts, the TMNT’s have been re-invented a number of times, some were stronger than others, but if you look at what Viacom/Nickelodeon has done/allowed to happen with the new TMNT animated TV series, and the new IDW comic series, each has a slightly new and refreshed take on the 'core concept,' the new film will be the same, a film 'well placed' in the TMNT lore the fans will enjoy. If we learned nothing else from one of my favorite comic book based films, The Avengers, that there’s a lot to be said about never forgetting that core concept and core fan-base.

Eastman is really rooting for this movie isn't he?! As a fan that grew up reading the comics, watching the animated series, and the early films... I really hope this movie turns out as good as Eastman says it will be. It is possible.

KICK-ASS 2 Set Photo Shows Kick-Ass in Big Daddy Costume

An interesting photo from the set of Kick-Ass 2 was tweeted out by Christopher Mintz-Plasse yesterday featuring himself as The Mother F%&*^r and Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass. What I find interesting about the photo is that Kick-Ass is wearing a modified version of Big Daddy's suit, which is something I don't remember from the comics, so it must be a new addition.

I have no doubt that this movie is going to be just as badass as the first film was. Nothing really official has even been released for this movie yet, but I love what I've seen from all of the set photos. The movie will be released on June 28th, 2013.

And yes, I do believe that is Chloe Moretz holding the slate.

Here's the synopsis:

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010's irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass' (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.

When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world's first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she's forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world's first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there's only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Heroes of Science Action Figures!

Check out this collection of custom made action figures created by DeviantArtist datazoid featuring several heroes of science like Einstein, Schrodinger, Oppenheimer, Stephen Hawking, Benoît Mandelbrot, Paul Erdős, Roger Penrose, Dmitri Mendeleev, Richard Dawkins, Nikola Tesla and several more! I think these figures turned out pretty cool.

Here's a note from the artist detailing the project:

These little guys took between 40 minutes and 2 hours each, totalling around 50 hours of work.

I like action figures. I have a small collection of them. I’ve noticed that you can buy Albert Einstein figures, Nikola Tesla bobble-heads and The Simpsons even brought out a Stephen Hawking figure based on his appearance in an episode. However, I thought it’d be really cool if there was an entire series of them, based on all of the people who’ve contributed to our understanding of the world and the universe it sits in.

The figures are all based on Star Trek: TNG and Star Trek: DS9 figures (primarily Odo from DS9, and Picard as Dixon Hill from TNG), and have been heavily modified in Photoshop using Liquify and a great deal of digital painting. Unfortunately, the figures aren’t real. I wish they were.

I realise there are a *lot* of scientists that I’ve missed! I did make a few rules for who I’d include in this selection, which are:

the scientist must have been alive at some point in the 20th century. This is a practical consideration, as it really narrows the field down, and it eliminates a lot of the more outrageously-dressed characters, allowing me to work with mostly dudes in suits.
No scientists famous for major medical breakthroughs. Primarily because medical heroes is a category all of its own, and there are hundreds to choose from. I’ve included Alexander Fleming here, because he was primarily a chemist, and because his discovery of penicillin was not a discovery made in the course of trying to cure something.

Wii U: You Don't Have to Like it to Know it's Next Gen

0
0

According to Reggie Fils-Aime the next generation of consoles has started, and Wii U is the first one to the party. To Nintendo, next gen seems to be a combination of new and interesting tech and the creativity to take advantage of that tech. To some it's the promise of a high ceiling that no other console can achieve. To others it's better graphics and better effects that promise to immerse you in these experiences that much more. The answer of course is a bit of all of the above, but in the Wii U's case, its such an interesting and unique piece of hardware that people are having a hard time nailing down exactly what it is.

The Wii U is a next generation console.

period.

(yes, for your information I do know using a period and then using the term period was redundant, but please indulge me)

Regardless of hardware specs and what it can do 5 years down the line, the Wii U is the first new kid on the block, and while he might not end up being the last one standing in this contest his presence alone signifies the start of a new cycle, and a new generation of hardware.

Now, I say all this as someone who has always been a bit jaded when it comes to Nintendo. I was a Sega kid, and to this day adore and cherish my memories of the Genesis & Dreamcast. Ironically, the Dreamcast was also a system that was high on creativity and horsepower until it was eclipsed by the other consoles of that generation. I can say the above statement because I'm able to discern the difference between something that is not of quality and something that is just not for me, and the Wii U falls within the latter category. It's an impressive bit of tech to be sure, and we will see if that can overcome some of its weaknesses. Its competitors however are not the PS3 or the Xbox 360. The Wii U's foes haven't even entered the arena yet, so its difficult to justify the argument that it's not next gen when its main competition is. I will critique a lot of what the Wii U has to offer, but I won't backhand it by saying it doesn't deserve to be in the conversation.

I might not be a fan of Nintendo's newest project (and if you listened to my podcast rants in the past you know for a fact that I'm not), but I try and give credit where credit is due. They beat everybody else to the punch. Now we'll just have to wait and see if what they've served up will be enough to walk away with a win.

EVIL DEAD Poster - The Most Terrifying Movie You Will Ever Experience

0
0

Sony Pictures has released the first poster for the Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell produced remake of Evil Dead, and the poster claims that it will be the most terrifying movie you will ever experience. I won't lie when I say that it very well could be. This movie just looks simply insane, and anyone that's seen what's been shot so far will tell you that what this poster is claiming is true.

The movie was directed by Fede Alvarez from a script he wrote with Rodo Sayagues and Diablo Cody. The film stars Jane Levy (Suburgatory) as Mia, the new Ash; Shiloh Fernandez (Deadgirl, Red Riding Hood) as David; Lou Taylor Pucci (Carriers) as Eric; Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield) as Olivia; and Elizabeth Blackmore (Legend of the Seeker) as Natalie.

In the remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Evil Dead hits theaters on April 12th 2012! Why don't you watch the trailer again just because it's awesome...

New JACK REACHER TV Spot - Ruthless

Here's another TV spot for Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher called "Ruthless", and as you might expect it's got some more new footage. The movie was directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun, writer of The Usual Suspects), and it's based on the ninth book in the series, One Shot. The movie also stars Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike, Jai Courtney, and Werner Herzog as the villain. It will be released in theaters on December 21st, 2012. I'm looking forward to seeing Cruise kick some ass as Jack Reacher.

Here's the Synopsis:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: "Get Jack Reacher!" So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

ZERO DARK THIRTY - New International Poster

It looks like Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow has made a hell of a great film that the world is excited to see. This is the film that will tell the detailed and intense story of how Osama Bin Laden was hunted down and killed. In the film Jessica Chastain plays a CIA agent tasked with finding Bin Laden with a small team of people. They spent over a decade looking for him before SEAL Team Six was sent in to take him out. The film stars Joel EdgertonMark Strong, Kyle Chandler, Chris Pratt, Frank Frillo, James Gandolfini, Jason Clarke, Edgar Ramirez and Nash Edgerton.

It will get a limited theatrical release on December 19th, and will hit theaters nationwide on January 13th, 2013. Zero Dark Thirty looks so good, and you can bet this one is going to get a few Oscar nominations.

THE WOLVERINE Trailer NOT Attached to THE HOBBIT

Yesterday it was reported that we would see our first trailer for The Wolverine with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Well, I'm sorry to report that that's not going to happen. Director James Mangold took to his twitter account to set the record straight. Here's the tweet he sent out...

Yeah, I'm a little bummed out that we won't see a trailer for the film until next year, but we know that we'll eventually get to see it. I'll be looking forward to that day!

Fan Favorite Character Tyreese Coming to THE WALKING DEAD

0
0

For those of you who are fans of the The Walking Dead comic book you should be excited to hear that the fan favorite character Tyreese will be joining the AMC TV series. The character will be played by Chad Coleman who is best known for his role as Dennis "Cutty" Wise on The Wire and providing the voice for 'Coach' in Left4Dead 2.

In the Walking Dead comics, Tyreese was a former NFL linebacker, and became a prominent member of the survivors and served as Rick’s second in command following Shane’s death. "The character’s arrival (rumored to be in this season’s eighth episode) comes as Rick prepares to do battle with David Morrissey’s Governor."

Who knows what the TV series has in store for his character though. I'm happy to see that he's finally going to be joining the series though!

TERMINATOR 2 - Making of T-1000 Special Effects Video

James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgement Day introduced us to a new kind of robot killing machine... the T-1000 made out of liquid metal (played by Robert Patrick.) I remember seeing this on the big screen and being blown away by the special effects for this character. I had never seen anything like it before! The whole way through I was like, "How'd they do that?!"

Stan Winston School has released an extremely cool behind the scenes video and some photos showing us the making of the T-1000, and I think you'll be surprised by how much of this character was not CGI. There were a lot more practical effects used for this character than I thought.

Although Stan Winston Studio vastly improved upon the techniques used to create the T-800 endoskeleton effects in TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY, they would be breaking all new ground with the unprecedented T-1000 liquid metal effects. “The endoskeletons, which had been the big deal on Terminator, were the least of our problems on Terminator 2,” said 25-year SWS supervisor and Co-Founder of Legacy Effects, John Rosengrant. “By far, the most challenging things we did for Terminator 2 were these physical effects involving the T-1000 character. We did a lot of in-camera magic tricks for that — splitting open bodies, finger blades, heads blowing open, bullet-hit wounds. Every day, there was something new and challenging to do.”

This stuff is so cool! Check it out!

WALKING DEAD: No Time Left Trailer Promises a Great Season Finale

0

Telltale Games first season of Walking Dead is about to come to a close later this week, and I have to say I have enjoyed their take on this universe immensely. Lee & Clementine are such well developed characters you wouldn't know they weren't in the book to begin with, and the feel of the world is spot on. I know there has been some debate about whether to put the next season out as one whole, but personally I rather like the small episode format. I love every month or so having a bit of new content to play, and the 2 hour or so length of each one fits perfectly into my (and I imagine many people's) small window of downtime. With that said, take a look at the final trailer before episode 5 hits this week.

Zack Snyder Confirms Crazy MAN OF STEEL Trailer with THE HOBBIT

0
0

Just because we won't be seeing a trailer for The Wolverine with The Hobbit doesn't mean we won't be seeing one for Man of Steel. Zack Snyder has confirmed with MTV that there will be a trailer attached to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and he says it's going to be crazy.

It's fun. I can't wait for The Hobbit, so it will be fun to see our crazy Man of Steel trailer and then enjoy the Hobbit because that's going to be great. It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action.

It's not like we need another reason to see The Hobbit, but it's going to be so freakin' cool to see a full on trailer for Man of Steel. I want to see more! Snyder also went on to talk about Michael Shannon's performance as General Zod.

Shannon is great, he has such great enthusiasm and dedication constantly. You can imagine that you could get actors who go, 'Oh right, it's Zod, it's not 100 percent serious,' or [you can play it] slightly with a wink, there is none of that with him. His effort is to make it realized and to understand this character and what he has to go through, so you have that on one side and you have Henry, who basically is Superman, on the other side and that dynamic.

He went on to talk about working with Henry Cavill and Shannon in the film saying,

I was just incredibly fortunate to play with those guys who really were giving all they had to bring a level of commitment to the scenes they have together so that audiences will get an opportunity to really have their heroes taken seriously. As serious as I was taking it, and I don't mean that from a depressing kind of way but from a, 'This is important and fun and needs to be given the respect that it deserves,' from that perspective it was so exciting to watch them drink the Kool-Aid of that concept and go all the way.

Snyder is currently working on post-production for the film, and he seems extemely excited about it.

I'm super psyched. It's really fun. I have no superhero fatigue.

The film also stars Amy Adams (The Fighter), Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves), Diane Lane (Unfaithful), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Michael Kelly, Richard Shiff, and of course Russell Crowe.

The movie will be released in theaters in 3D on June 14th 2013.

X-FILES Finally Coming to Blu-ray?! Yes Please!

0
0

I want The X-Files on Blu-ray! I can only imagine how amazing this show will look in HD, and the next time I relive the experience, it will be on Blu-ray. The Digital Bits is reporting that a number of "industry sources" have told them that Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment plans on releasing the insanely amazing ground-breaking sci-fi series on Blu-ray sometime in late 2013. This is one of those shows we've never had the privilege of watching in HD. The site gives a little rundown of info:

The first four seasons of The X-Files [were] produced in the old school 4x3 format. It eventually went to the 16x9 widescreen format, but FOX didn't even start broadcasting in HD until 2004, which is two years after X-Files ended its run. Obviously some work needs to be done, but sources have told Digital Bits that FOX plans on rebuilding the series for Blu-ray HD much like CBS did with Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I really hope this news turns out to be true, because I've been waiting for X-Files to get a Blu-ray release since Blu-ray became a thing.

Chris Hemsworth Talks Loki and Jane in THOR: THE DARK WORLD

0
0

Over the last couple of months we've seen a ton of very cool set photos from Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, and from what I've seen it looks like director Alan Taylor's vision of the film is coming together nicely. In a recent interview with MTV Chris Hemsworth talked about a few things you might find interesting. He discusses Thor's relationships with Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in the sequel saying,

For Thor and Jane, there are some unanswered questions now, since obviously he didn't stop in and catch up with her in Avengers. Thor might have some explaining to do in this one. And with Loki, we get down to the major bones of our conflict with everything that's come from Thor to Avengers to now.

He goes on to discuss how much longer they will be shooting, and comments on Taylor making the film a lot bigger and bringing a Game of Thrones vibe to the world.

We have six weeks to go to shoot. This is the trickiest bit, because you can go, "Oh, yeah, we're past the halfway mark!" which isn't a good idea, because you're not finished yet. You sort of get that second wind about now or you hope to and push on through. But it's been great. The look of the film is a lot bigger than what we did even previously. The first one worked and people loved it, but this is with a different director and just has a totally different feel. There's a definite Game of Thrones vibe thanks to [director] Alan [Taylor].

For those of you interested in what Hemsworth thinks of the whole Star Wars Disney thing he says,

Oh man, I love those films. That's the sort of bread and butter of my film experience as a kid. I would love to work on something like that. I also loved Lord of the Rings. I would have loved to have done something in that world.

I can't wait to start seeing some official images, posters and trailers for Thor 2! I'm excited to see what the final product ends up looking like. I imagine it will be even better that what we think we're going to get.
