George R.R. Martin Teases Possible Release of WINDS OF WINTER This Year

$

I'm holding out hope that this is true, but I've been burned before when it comes to George R.R. Martin promising a book. Comicbook writes the author teased in a recent journal entry that his sixth book in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series (aka Game of Thrones on television), Winds of Winter, may be released this year. His actual statement makes it sound more like a "maybe" than any confirmation...

“Not done yet, but I've made progress. But not as much as I hoped a year ago, when I thought to be done by now. I think it will be out this year. (But hey, I thought the same thing last year).”

At this point, I think he's just waiting to see how the show finale is received before he finishes the novel. Then again, he really is an obscenely slow writer so maybe he is giving it his best effort. I'm just hoping he completes it already! Any novel readers with me on that?

Supercut: These 10 Films Are on the Oscars Shortlist for Best Visual Effects

Of all the movies that you saw in 2016, which had the best visual effects? There are a few obvious blockbuster choices, like Captain America: Civil War or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but remember The Jungle Book? Or Kubo and the Two Strings? It's probably going to be a tough category at the Oscars next month, and now Art of the Film has put out a supercut that conveniently compiles footage from the ten hopefuls. Only five of these films will actually get nominated on January 24th, and the rest will join Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool, X-Men: Apocalypse, Sully, Suicide Squad, Warcraft, and more in the reject pile. Which one do you think has the best shot to bring home the gold?

Ares Revealed as Main Villain in WONDER WOMAN

$

Ares, the god of war, will be the main adversary to overcome in the upcoming Wonder Woman film. Comicbook snagged a translation from a French film site confirming the news that reads as follows...

“Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. Now, it turns out that this is precisely the goal of Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (he was killed by Ares when he rebelled against him, with the help of the Amazons)…”

If I had to guess, Ares will be disguised as a German army general in human form or something like that and we won't get to see him in his full godly garb until the end of the film, if at all.

Even though we know the villain, there are still a lot of unknowns about how Ares will be portrayed in the film. Ares has been known as a brother to Diana Prince, a mentor, and I even remember a Justice League episode where he claimed to be her father! WB and DC may choose to revisit one of those directions, or just go ahead and make up yet another way their fates are tied. They may even pretend like the two have never met before!

The inclusion of Ares adds a mythological opening that I hope we see more of in the film! As much as I like the war movie feel, I also want to see some over the top Amazon vs. a Greek God kind of action going on! Do you think we'll get to see some fantasy style action in this film or will it be all war based?

Wonder Woman is in theaters June 2nd.

Fox Is Getting Closer to Renewing THE X-FILES Revival for 2018

I loved the six episodes of The X-Files revival. I'm so happy that the series got a revival, and Fox isn't done with it! We already know that creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are all been on board to do more and have been trying to make it happen. Well, Fox is very close to actually greenlighting a renewal, which I couldn't be more excited about!

Talks of this next installment actually started before the six-episode revival even aired, and according to Deadline, Fox entertainment president David Madden said, “A lot of conversations are going on, as you can imagine, these conversations are complex. We hope to be able to announce something shortly.”

What is so complex about the conversations they're having? Probably trying to get everyone's schedules aligned because they are all so busy. Oh yeah, and money always makes things complex when it comes to these things. He seems optimistic, though!

THR goes on to say that Fox hopes to release more episodes in 2018 and they are hoping to have more than six episodes this time around. It's great to hear that we'll probably get another installment!

Everyone who reads this site should be familiar with YouTuber Michael Stevens, aka Vsauce. For years, his videos about the human mind, science, and other topics of the sort have netted him a popular fanbase that equals over 11 million subscribers! Those who watch him enjoy his entertaining and interesting videos that teach them things while simultaneously blowing their minds!

That looks to be what Mind Field is all about. Mind Field takes your typical 12 minute Vsauce video and blows it wide open with a full-length series jam-packed with experiments, high production quality, and more! One thing I saw I'm particularly excited for is the experiment where he sits in a white room in solitary confinement for three days!

The only real downside is this documentary will only be available to those who have YouTube Red, which is the premium version of YouTube. Has anyone tried it out? Is it worth having?

Look out for Mind Field on YouTube Red January 18th!

Anna Faris Says Chris Pratt Hunts and Eats His Own Meat

It's such a badass thing, I'm surprised Chris Pratt isn't announcing it himself! Instead, actress and wife to Pratt Anna Faris says that Pratt prefers to hunt and "harvest" his own meat and did so during their holiday stay in a cabin in Washington! As if he couldn't get any cooler, Pratt is out there in the wilderness killing game and bringing it home for his family to feast on!

Faris doesn't sound too fond of it, and to be honest I'm not the biggest fan of deer meat myself, but she seems to be a good sport about it, commenting that she may the only person who loses weight during the holidays!

Will Smith in Talks to Join Tim Burton's DUMBO Movie

Disney is looking to cast Will Smith in director Tim Burton's live-action adaptation of Dumbo. The film will be based on Disney's classic 1941 animated film. The report says that the studio “is moving aggressively toward a production start,” but there's not much information on what Burton's plans are with his adaptation. If you've seen the original Dumbo, then I'm sure you have a pretty good idea of how the story will play out. Of course, I imagine the director will be taking some creative liberties to put his own unique style and spin on on the story about a circus elephant with huge ears that learns how to fly.

When the project was first announced, we learned that the movie would be a mix of CG animation and live action. All that was said about the studio's plans was, “It’s a big world,” which leads us to believe the story will be much bigger than the original story. It's also been said that the movie will include “a unique family story that parallels Dumbo’s journey.”

There's no information on who Smith will be playing in the film, but I imagine he would take on the role of someone who works in the traveling circus that Dumbo travels with or he will be playing the father in this family story. Maybe he plays the father of a family who works for the circus.

I like Smith. I think he's a talented actor and this could be a great project for him. He's currently prepping to star in Joe Carnahan's Bad Boys For Life and he's currently shooting Bright with director David Ayer

INDIANA JONES Trailer Recut to Look Like a JASON BOURNE Film

Can you imagine Indiana Jones as dark and gritty as the Jason Bourne series can get? This recut trailer from Cinefix will give you a great idea of how that would look, and to be honest, it doesn't look that bad! Of course, the fans of the original would riot if something this dark came to the franchise, so don't expect anything like this to actually ever happen.

Thrilling New TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Promo Spot - "Stay and Fight"

Paramount Pictures has been releasing these very brief promo spots for Michael Bay's Transformers: The Last Knight. This latest spot is only 18-seconds long, but it's packed full of exciting new action-packed footage that you've gotta check out, especially if you're a fan of these films. This brief spot is probably one of the best that they've released for the film so far.

I'm not the biggest fan of Bay's Transformers movie franchise, but it doesn't mean that I don't want these films to be good. I always hope that Bay finally will give us a great story to go along with all the spectacular visuals and special effects. Regardless of that, they always manage to provide some entertainment.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in theaters on June 23, 2017.

Peter Dinklage Is in Early Talks to Join AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is in talks to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War! Dinklage is an incredible actor and his talents were completely wasted in X-Men: Apocalypse. Hopefully, Marvel Studios has a great role for him to take on!

There's no information on who he would be playing if he takes the part, but THR confirms that the character he's considering to play will be a major one hat will also appear in Marvel's untitled fourth Avengers film. It's hard to even begin to speculate who Dinklage will be playing because there are so many characters in the Marvel Universe to choose from. But if you have any thoughts on who you would like to see him play, leave it in the comments below.

Infinity War is going to be the largest scale Marvel movie yet, and it's going to feature a shit-ton of characters including all of the Avengers, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, The Guardians of the Galaxy, and more that we don't even know about!

I hope Dinklage and Marvel can work out a deal because I'd love to see what they have in store for him! Infinity War is to be released on May 4, 2018.

Tom Hanks Offered the Role of the Villain in Disney's DUMBO

Earlier today we learned that Will Smith is in talks to join Disney's live-action adaptation of Dumbo. A recent report from Variety indicates that, if cast, he will "play the father of the children who develop a friendship with the lovable elephant after seeing him at the circus." That's pretty much the character I suspected he would play.

The report also reveals that Tom Hanks was offered the role of the villain in the story! I would love to see Hanks take on the villainous role in the Tim Burton-directed film. They don't say exactly who he would be playing, but if they stay true to the original animated film, he will be playing the Circus Ringmaster, which is perfect for Hanks!

The actor has a choice to make. He can choose to take on this villain role in Dumbo or he's also looking at starring in a World War II drama called Greyhound. The report says he'll probably take the role in Greyhound, which II can see him doing, but it would be fun to see him in Dumbo because we rarely get to see him play a villain.

Intense Trailer for Netflix's Psychological Horror Thriller CLINICAL

Netflix released a trailer for a new film they are releasing this week called Clinical. It's a psychological thriller that tells the story of a psychiatrist who is trying "to put her life back together after a violent attack by seeking to repair the life of a new patient, but he has his own terrifying history."

The film stars Vinessa Shaw (The Hills Have Eyes) as a psychiatrist with post-traumatic stress disorder from a dark and scary event from her past that keeps coming back to haunt her.

I enjoy these kinds of stories, and it looks like it will be a crazy creepy film worth checking out, especially if you're into this genre. This movie uses post-traumatic stress as the main factor driving the main character and story into complete madness.

Clinical is set to be released on Friday the 13th.

Trailer for the Film Adaptation of CHIPS Starring Michael Peña and Dax Shepard

I loved watching the TV show CHiPs when I was growing up, and now there's a feature film adaptation starring Michael Peña and Dax Shepard. The first trailer was just released for the movie, and you can tell that they tried to capture that 21 Jump Street movie vibe and humor, but it just doesn't hit that bar. I guess that's what happens when you aren't as insanely talented as Jump Street writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Maybe you'll like what you see in the trailer, though! I personally wasn't impressed. CHiPs was written and directed by Shepard, and this is the synopsis:

In CHiPs, Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP. The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work… if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

CHiPs also co-stars Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Alita Battle Angel), Adam Brody (The O.C.), Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars), and Vincent D’Onofrio (Emerald City, Marvel’s Daredevil). The movie opens in theaters on March 24.

Four Spectacular and Intriguing Polish Short Films Based on Slavic Legends

I've got four impressive short films for you to check out today. The shorts were beautifully made by Polish animator Tomasz Bagiński and the modern stories they tell are based on Slavic legends. The films range from 13 to 30 minutes, so it will take some time to get through, but it's worth it. I included the title of each film along with a Google translated version of each synopsis:

Basilisk

From the sea to the Tatra Mountains open the gates of hell. It is not known who is behind this, but I know who it stepped: Bogus Kolodziej and his loosely affiliated with the reality of Uncle Eugene. The two police officers look hard in the eye prastaremu danger, and even collide with it through the Polonaise!

Dragon

Castle Krak and its inhabitants are in danger. The city is threatening dragon, which, however, does not resemble at all the legendary monster. This tattooed and heavily muscled Adolf Kamchatkov and its huge flying machine. Great amateur beautiful Polish women who kidnaps and holds in his hiding place, coming within one of the suburban villa. One of the kidnapped girls is Ola, which has a crush on a young genius and designer of robots, Janek. The city authorities are helpless, no one knows how to stop the Dragon. Just like in a fairy tale, a boy gets an idea of how to outwit the monster, having luckily access a technology far more advanced than those which had Szewczyk Dratewka.

Twardowsky Part I

Pan Twardowski, or rather Mr. Twardowsky, sitting all alone in a space station on the moon. Such are the consequences of his pact with the devil. Terribly bored, resigned to their fate is not. When the devil comes in the form of a beautiful woman, Twardowsky asks for some time to be able to go back to the ground. Realizing that little wytarguje, escapes the devil, even though he knows that not for long. Eventually, the time comes to pay the agreed price.

Twardowsky Part II

However Boruta and his messenger is not easily give up. The latest technology versus the desperate Pole objedzony jelly. The winner can be only one!

The Legend of Baba Yaga

Twardowski diversion begins to bear fruit confusion, this time in the form of a mysterious girl niestroniącej of herbs. Is Boruta able to turn her Slavic ... anger to your advantage? If not, you always have in reserve squad commandos Iron Mountain.

Anna Kendrick Is Looking to Play a Female Santa in Disney's NICOLE

Anna Kendrick is in talks with Disney to join a Christmas movie in which she will play a female Santa Claus. The film is currently known as Nicole, and according to Variety, the story "revolves around Santa’s daughter who is forced to take over the family business when her father decides to retire and brother ends up getting cold feet prior to his first big Christmas Eve flight."

That actually sounds like a fun premise and it's easy to imagine Kendrick in a role like this. The script for the film comes from Miss Congeniality scribe Marc Lawrence, who is also attached to direct.

Kendrick comes off as being a very likable person and it's been cool to see her career take off the way it has. She most recently starred in Ben Affleck's The Accountant and the animated film Trolls. She's currently in production on Pitch Perfect 3.

Micheal Keaton on Vulture Being a Different Kind of Villain in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

I personally can't wait to see more of Michael Keaton in full on Vulture mode in Marvel's Spider-Man: Homecoming. I really liked from what I saw of him in the trailer, and I'm curious to see how his story arc plays out.

Variety recently had the opportunity to interview Keaton and he opened up a little bit on his portrayal of the classic Spider-Man villain and how he's a different kind of villain than what you might expect. When asked about playing the villainous role, he explained:

"But not to give too much away, but interestingly, he is and he isn’t [a villain], that character. He’s a really interesting — and more interesting than I thought — villain because there’s parts of him that you go, 'You know what? I might see his point.' Really, really. It makes it interesting to play."

He comes off as a pretty evil classic villain type dude in the trailer. Only an evil grown man would choose to go to war with a high school teenager! But there's obviously more to him than that, and we'll learn about that other side of him when the movie is released.

He goes on to say that he didn't hesitate in taking the role. I'm sure some people may have thought that since he played Batman and Birdman that maybe he thought it would be silly to take on another comic book type role, but nope.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.

This Lightsaber Umbrella Will Protect You From the Rain in Style

I imagine if a Jedi can move physical objects with his or her mind, they could also create a small force field (get it? "Force" field???) around themselves to protect from inclement weather. But since no human has actually mastered Force powers in real life (...yet), we still need some help from good old fashioned umbrellas when rain comes our way. If you're in the market for a new one, Entertainment Earth has a 33-inch Star Wars-themed umbrella modeled after Luke Skywalker's lightsaber that opens up into a glowing LED shaft and a black canopy with a glow-in-the-dark space battle on top of it.

You can pre-order it now for $44.99, and it is estimated to ship sometime next month.
