You've Gotta See Matt Ferguson's Incredible LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Artwork

0
0

We've seen a lot of The Lord of the Rings-themed artwork over the years, but Matt Ferguson's new officially licensed pieces from NYC's Bottleneck Gallery are some of my absolute favorites. These 12x24 inch screen prints first went on sale yesterday, but luckily for all of us, this is a timed release which doesn't end until this Sunday, January 15th, at 11:59am EST, so there's still time to score all three of these incredible pieces for yourselves or your favorite LOTR mega-fan. Seems like a pretty good deal, too: it's $35 each or $100 for the set, which includes "Bag End," "Zirakzigil," and "Minas Tirith."

MF lotr Minas Tirith.jpg

In addition, Bottleneck has awesome-looking pins modeled after The One Ring on sale for $10 each. They're holding a charity pin release for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund, and 100% of the pin profits will be donated in memory of Alexandra Grace, who was close to the Bottleneck team. We wish them the best with the fundraiser!

What's your favorite piece of this trilogy set? "Bag End" is great (I just visited New Zealand and saw the real set, and this looks pretty spot-on to me), but as a big fan of the Balrog, I'm partial to "Zirakzigil." But man, that "Minas Tirith" image is terrific, too. I like all of them!

New ALIEN: COVENANT Photo Gives Another Look at Michael Fassbender's Walter

Another new photo has surfaced from Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, and it features Michael Fassbender as Walter and Carmen Ejogo as an unspecified character. It looks like they are observing something of interest to them. We have no idea what is it, but we'll all find out when the movie comes out!

Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The movie also stars Katherine WaterstonDanny McBride, Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), and James Franco.

Alien: Covenant is set to open in theaters on May 19, 2017. To watch the red-band trailer for the film and get caught up on all the previous news, click here.

Things Look Brutally Brilliant in Red Band Trailer for SLEEPLESS

If you can't wait for John Wick 2 to be in theaters, Sleepless looks to be a good substitute! I had good vibes about the action in this film from the first trailer, and this red band trailer confirms it gets just as brutal as I could've hoped! The pitching machine scene will make you wince!

Check out the new trailer, and consider seeing the film tonight as it is now playing everywhere in the U.S! I'm seeing it as this looks like the best Jamie Foxx movie I've seen in awhile!

Someone Created a Live Action Version of RICK AND MORTY's Fake Movie TWO BROTHERS

I haven't caught all the way up with Rick and Morty yet myself, but there's a clip from the episode "Rixty Minutes" in which the two title characters watch TV in another dimension and comment about how TV there feels more improvisational than it does in their dimension. One of the commercials they watch is a trailer for a fictional movie called Two Brothers, and the YouTube channel Just Editing Stuff has recreated that trailer primarily using live action footage from Michael Bay's Bad Boys. Shout out to them, because it's pretty freakin' spot-on. Take a look, and then watch the original clip below.

THE SHALLOWS "Making Of" Video Shows Off Some Surprising and Great VFX Work

Blake Lively's The Shallows turned out to be a surprisingly great film. If you haven't seen it yet, it's definitely worth checking out. Anyway, I have a fascinatingly cool "Making Of" video that breaks down the awesome VFX work done for the film. I had no idea that many of the shots in this movie were actually CG. It's beautiful, seamless work. It's incredible to see how much of the film was actually completed with VFX work in post-production. The craziest thing for me was the fact that the film was basically just shot in a pool! Gotta love movie magic!

7 Things You Might Not Have Known About MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

At this point, you've probably learned just about everything there is to know about Mad Max: Fury Road, the unstoppable action juggernaut that surprisingly went on to win a bunch of Oscars last year. But just in case you need to brush up on your trivia, this video from Cinefix has you covered with seven things you might not have known about the film. There are obvious ones, like the fact that director George Miller has also directed children's movies, but then there are less obvious ones, like the fact that Charlize Theron kept some extra grease in the cabin of the War Rig so she could touch up her makeup on the fly if necessary. Check it out.

DEADPOOL Writers Will "Gloss Over" Cable's History Rather Than Try To Explain It

0
0

When it comes to origin stories in comics, Cable's is way more complicated than most. For that reason, Collider reports the Deadpool writers are going to just capture the character "at his core." Writer Paul Wernick explained:

"So with Cable, he’s got such a convoluted past, and such a convoluted origin story that I think we’re going to try to leave that, not mysterious, but there are a lot of twists and turns, cloning and all this stuff where you go, “Oh my God. How do we get that across in a two hour movie?” I think we’re going to distill him down to his essence. It will be authentic and faithful, but it’s not going to include the 18,000 details if you were going to read a Wikipedia page about Cable you’d roll your eyes."

There's also a lot about Cable's origin that comes in conflict with the canon of the Marvel X-Men universe. For starters, he's the future son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and a clone of Jean Grey. Things don't get simpler from there, and if you really wanted to you could make an entire film just about his beginning and never really see any action! So while I typically think it's best to portray the character as accurate to their original character in the comics, I think we can agree that it's better left vague with Cable.

Perhaps the most interesting news from this interview is that there is still no solid lead on who will play the X-Man. Wernick stated as much when he said:

"It’s intimidating because we have to find his voice, and we don’t have an actor yet so we don’t know who we’re writing for. Most screenwriting happens without cast in place, but sequels it’s a little bit different and it’s likely that part will get cast, and we’ll get to continue writing it and honing it for that actor, which I think is a good thing. There’s been so many diverse people that have been brought up as possibilities for Cable, and who have not been brought up but we’re considering. And that, much like with Ryan [Reynolds], that decision will greatly impact his cadences, his rhythms. And we’ll certainly make him like he is in the comics, and we’ll certainly be faithful, but I do think that voice will inform us quite a bit."

I'm still pulling for Jon Hamm even though I know it won't happen. I wish they would just pick someone already! They don't have much time if they're planning on wrapping this film before the end of 2017. Who are you hoping gets the role? Do you agree with the writers' decision to leave Cable's origin out of the story?

  • Major props and costumes from the entire franchise covering all 6 movies

I've never seen any of these movies, but I always appreciate the opportunity for fans to be able to take home a piece of a franchise that means a lot to them. I nearly bid on the Oceanic 815 plane door from the Lost pilot, but I came to my senses and realized I shouldn't be spending thousands of dollars on something that I had no reasonable method of displaying.

Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, and Others Star in a Soap Opera Made Using Kanye West Lyrics

James Corden has been on fire lately! I swear he's going viral more than Jimmy Fallon these days! That's saying something considering the host of the Late Late Show seemed like the odd man out in an absolutely stacked competition for late night television shows. While I've enjoyed his carpool karaoke, his latest skit to go viral might be my favorite yet!

Corden, Bryan Cranston, Jessica Biel, Giovanni Ribisi, and Reggie Watts all team up for a soap opera with a twist! All of the dialogue in the sketch comes entirely from the songs of Kanye West. I tried my best not to laugh, but I lost it at the "You should be honored by my lateness" line, and it was all downhill from there!

Check out the sketch below.

Action-Packed Extended Promo Spot for Kevin Smith's "SUPERGIRL LIVES"

The CW has released an extended new promo spot for the midseason premiere of Supergirl, "Supergirl Lives." The Kevin Smith-directed episode looks like it's going to be awesomely action-packed. The trailer also offers us a look at the return of Livewire and James Olsen, who once again suits up as Guardian. There's also a Star Wars-like training ball that Mon-El fights against. It seems like Smith had a lot of fun with this and put together a great episode that fans will enjoy.

Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman). To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Alex (Chyler Leigh) blames herself for Kara’s disappearance, fearing she’s become too focused on her new relationship with Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) and too complacent in watching out for her sister.

"Supergirl Lives" is set to air on January 23rd.

Trailer for Maisie Williams' Netflix Film iBOY Centers on a Boy Who Gains Techno Superpowers

0
0

Netflix has another great looking film that they will be releasing called iBoy. The story follows a teen boy, who, through a series of tragic events, gains techno superpowers. How? He gets shot in the head while holding his cell phone and fragments of his cell phone end up in his head. This somehow allows him to manipulate technology, surf the internet in his brain, and get tips on how to fight people while in the heat of action. I know it sounds a little silly, but the movie actually does look really good. This has the potential to be a fun and different kind of superhero film.

Tom is an average teenager whose world is turned on its head when a violent encounter with local thugs leaves fragments of his shattered smartphone embedded in his brain. He wakes from a coma to discover that returning to normal teenage life is impossible because he has developed a strange set of superpowers. With these new powers he sets out to seek revenge on the gang, who also assaulted his best friend Lucy.

The film stars Bill Milner (X-Men: First Class) as the boy, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as his love interest, and Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful) as the villain.

iBoy will be available to watch on Netflix on January 27th, 2017.

DEADPOOL Writers Talk Sequel and Claim Vladimir Putin Leaked the Test Footage

0

While there's a very high probability that four people collectively decided to leak the Deadpool test footage, there's also a small chance Russian President Vladimir Putin was involved! Deadline spoke to the writers about the film's award chances, the sequel, and of course, the infamous leak that got it all rolling. We've all heard the story of "the leak" that finally got footage of Deadpool in front of the public, but writer Paul Wernick thinks he's narrowed down who did it...

"We’ve always wondered who leaked that test footage. There’s really been only four suspects—it’s been myself, Rhett, Ryan [Reynolds], and [director] Tim [Miller], but a new suspect has emerged, and we’re gonna give you the scoop on this. It’s Putin, actually; Vladimir Putin leaked the test footage for Deadpool."

I wouldn't peg Putin as a big Deadpool fan, but then again I'm not sure many people expected the film to be the $735 million dollar success that it was, and yet the writers laugh that a film so successful is viewed an "underdog" in the award season for films...

"How rare is it that a movie that made $783 million is kind of the underdog of the award season? [Laughs] It’s rare that a movie like this, that’s generally considered a popcorn type movie, gets recognized among such serious, great fare. So, it’s both surprising and exciting, and unexpected, and yet, so gratifying"

As far as the update on the sequel, things are looking very positive! The team is still planning on including Cable and shooting sometime this year...

"It’ll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool’s movie, this next one. We’re pushing forward very hard. I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we’re on our multiple draft now. It’s taken different twists and turns, but it’s really coalescing, and we’re very, very excited. We’re a little nervous, because now we feel like we have to live up to the first movie, but at the same time, we have to have faith, and we have an extreme passion still, and as long as we have passion still, and it’s not a mercenary, venal play, which we don’t think this is, I think we’ll be in good shape."

The only bad news? There's no plan to bring Deadpool into the current fold of X-Men films just yet as far as the writing team knows, but don't rule it out!

Adam Savage Interviews Engineers Who Have Literally Mastered Fighting Fire With Fire

Adam Savage teams up with GE to witness something that was once believed to be impossible. These guys are fighting fire with fire, but not in the way you'd think! These engineers are then sending sound recordings of fire through a tube with enough force to extinguish the fire! Kind of sounds like a technicality to me as the sound waves are essentially forcing air to blow out the candle, but it's still pretty cool to watch nonetheless. Check it out below!

Updated with new photo below:

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first photo of Marvel's The Defenders team assembled together. There's also a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot that you can watch below that includes interviews with Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage), and Finn Jones (Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist).

In an interview with The Defenders showrunner Marco Ramirez, he talked about the characters coming together for this story explaining:

“Every one of them is following their own trail of bread crumbs, trying to unpack a mystery in New York. We wanted them all caught off guard. Once they’re in that room together, it’s kind of like, ‘Oh, s—, who are you?'”

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb added:

“The Defenders didn’t have a ‘D’ on their belt buckles and a Defenders Tower. We agreed from the very beginning that these folks could at the very end go, ‘I never want to see your face again.'”

I love that. It'd be a shame if they didn't come together again, but I love that attitude. The Defendersis set to arrive sometime in 2017, and they'll face off against none other than Sigourney Weaver as the villain. To read everything we know about the limited series, click here.

LA LA LAND Featurette Focuses on Costumes, Locations, and the Movie's Opening Scene

0
0

Lionsgate has released a new featurette for La La Land, the studio's Oscar frontrunner for Best Picture that became the single most awarded film in Golden Globes history this past weekend. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I'd highly recommend it — it's one of my favorites of 2016.

The featurette concentrates on the movie's eye-popping costumes and real life locations, including some behind the scenes footage of when the production shut down a section of a Los Angeles freeway to film its opening musical number. La La Land is one of the most visually distinct movies that came out last year, combining primary colors and art deco production design with a more modern sensibility, and it's cool to hear about the thought processes that went into bringing this magical musical to life. The film is in theaters now, so check it out if you haven't seen it yet!

David Goyer and Justin Rhodes Brought on to Write the Script for GREEN LANTERN CORPS

David Goyer and Justin Rhodes have been brought on to write the script for Green Lantern Corps! According to Deadline, the new film is being described as Lethal Weapon in space and will center around Lanterns Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

To be honest I'm kind of disappointed there was no mention of Guy Gardner in the press release! To leave him out of this film would be a huge snub for fans, so I have to imagine he's in it, wouldn't you?

I guess now that the project is official let's start the dream casting for John Stewart and (presumably) Hal Jordan! I'm also curious as to who you guys think should play Guy Gardner.

Mondo Gets Prehistoric with New JURASSIC PARK and JURASSIC WORLD Prints

It's been more than twenty years since Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park hit theaters, but its impact is still being felt across Hollywood in a huge way. Putting aside the influence the original film had on today's up-and-coming filmmakers, Jurassic World was a dino-sized hit a couple of years ago and a sequel is headed to the big screen next year. Now Mondo is paying homage to the franchise with two brand new posters and a set of enamel pins that fans should get a kick out of.

Jurassic Park by Kako. 24"x36" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 275. Printed by D&L Screenprinting. $45

First up: "Jurassic Park" from artist Kako.

We have a T-Rex! Kako's take on the iconic T-Rex breakout scene puts us in the perspective of Tim and Lex as the queen of the park stare down on them. With a "nightvision" glow-in-the-dark variant it's important to remember, if you don't move she can't see you.
Jurassic World by Dan McCarthy. 36"x24" screen print. Hand numbered. Edition of 275. Printed by D&L Screenprinting. $45

Then there's "Jurassic World" from artist Dan McCarthy:

Dan McCarthy's poster tackles the latest addition to Jurassic World, the Indominus Rex. Dan's poster breaks down the genome of the hybrid that was engineered for mass entertainment and later mass destruction.

And finally, you can check out the pins featuring paddock signs for dinosaurs like the Velociraptor, Brachiosaurus, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Dilophosaurus, and Triceratops.

These went on sale earlier today (find more info on Mondo's Twitter), so there's a slim chance any will still be available, but good luck if you're trying to snag one!
