Adrenaline-Fueled Trailer for Pixar's CARS 3

adrenaline-fueled-trailer-for-pixars-cars-3

Disney has released a new trailer for Pixar's Cars 3. The Cars franchise isn't my favorite thing that Pixar has done, but this third chapter in the story actually looks interesting. This latest trailer offers new footage and more insight into the story. It actually looks like a really good and exciting film, and I never thought I'd say that about a Cars movie.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!

Last week we were introduced to a couple of the new generation of cars that come into Lightning McQueen's life. One of them is a villain-type character named Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer), and the other is a character that comes in to help McQueen. That character's name is Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo). When previously talking about the film, director Brian Fee said:

“McQueen is not the young hotshot anymore, the kid he was back then in Cars 1. He’s in the middle of his life, and as an athlete, that’s getting up there. You have your whole life ahead of you, yet your career is starting to show its age. He’s looking in the mirror and realizing, ‘I’m 40 years old,’ and dealing with the fact that the thing that you love more than anything else, you might not be able to do forever.”

Cars 3 opens in theaters on June 16th, 2017.

James Gunn Discusses Star-Lord Meeting His Dad in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

There's a lot of excitement revolving around Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. We don't have a lot of story details yet, but we do know is that one of the main things it will focus on is Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) meeting his father Ego the Living Planet (Kurt Russell) for the first time.

In a recent interview with USA Today, director James Gunn talked about what it's like for Star-Lord to meet his dad for the first time ever, saying:

“It runs the gamut of emotions for him, wanting to understand why his father wasn’t around to quickly idolizing him and ultimately learning the reality of the relationship and comparing the man who sired him to the man who raised him.”

This is sure to make for an interesting, dramatic, and fun story dynamic. I'm excited to see how that plays out for Peter Quill and his pops. Gunn also talks about the Guardians team that consists of Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper) and kid Groot (voice of Vin Diesel), and what it means for them to come together to form a family unit.

“To let somebody love you is a very difficult thing, especially when you’re damaged goods. And all of the Guardians are damaged goods.”

That's what I love about these characters! They're all misfits who have been thrown in the trash who come together to find a positive purpose to live and fight to help save the universe. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out on May 5th!

The Unipiper Is Back as Darth Vader, But This Time He's Shoveling Snow

The Unipiper, aka Portland's Brian Kidd, is well-known for his schtick in which he dresses up as a pop culture character, precariously balances on an object (whether it's a ball or a unicycle), and glides around playing flaming bagpipes. He's dressed as Darth Vader twice before — once for The Force Awakens and once for Rogue One — but aside from the general joy he brings to society and the internet at large with his antics, he's added another benefit to his performance: shoveling snow. Granted, he doesn't actually shovel all that much, but I doubt I could do any better in those circumstances. (I also like that he's wearing shorts. It adds to the ridiculousness of the whole scene.)

New ALIEN: COVENANT Photo; Katherine Waterston Compares Her Character to Ripley

Kathrine Waterston looks like a complete badass in this latest photo from Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Alien: Covenant. She also looks like she's under some pretty heavy stress, and she's most likely fighting off some monstrous xenomorph alien.

The photo comes from USA Today, and when talking about her character, Daniels, she says, “You don’t really know what you’re made of until you’re tested.” She goes on to talk about one of the similarities between her character and Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, saying:

“They are both able to somehow think clearly in really shocking, unimaginable scenarios. It’s fun to play someone who can thrive in that chaos.”

From all the photos that I've seen of Daniels, it seems like she shares more similarities than that, especially in looking like a badass. When talking about whether she preferred the Alien Chestbursters over Facehuggers, she laughingly said:

“I’m very squeamish. I’ve seen these movies many times, but I feel like I’ve barely seen any of the alien scenes because my eyes are usually covered.”

This movie looks like it's going to be great. In case you need to be reminded of that, you can watch the trailer for it here. The movie hits theaters on May 17th!

Zack Snyder Says Wonder Woman Is "Fully Evolved" in JUSTICE LEAGUE

We recently got a great first look photo of the Justice League team together. Everyone was present except for Superman. Justice League will be the most challenging film for Zack Snyder to make, and fans are waiting to see if he will actually be able to pull it off. Fans are split on what they think of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but I think everyone can agree that they should've and could've been much better.

During an interview with USA Today, Snyder talked about Justice League, saying:

“It was all about the filling-out of this massive comic-book pantheon with the biggest and coolest heroes we could.”

Filling out the biggest and coolest heroes for the film is the easy part! The hard part is perfectly building their characters for film and telling a great story with those characters. That's what the film should be all about. At least, that's what I think. You can have the best superhero characters in the world to fill a movie frame with cool visuals, but without a solid story and script, what's the point? Snyder went on to talk about Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and explained that she's fully evolved when we see her in Justice League

When talking about the upcoming Wonder Woman film he said she finds that “humanity isn’t always the most kind and awesome thing." He continued:

“It has its moments, but it can be brutal, and her coming to terms with that dichotomy is what we come to learn about her. And in Justice League, she’s fully evolved into someone who’s embraced mankind, partly through Superman’s sacrifice. She’s like, ‘All right, I’ve got to pick it up.’”

Yeah, well... some people would say it's not really a sacrifice if he didn't really die. Regardless, it's good to hear that she has embraced mankind and that she is willing to fight for them and protect them. I'm looking forward to seeing some new footage from the movie, but until then, fingers crossed that it turns out better than many of us are expecting.

Justice League hits theaters on November 17th. For more information on the film click here

Creepy Trailer for BATES MOTEL Season 5 Shows What Norman Has Been Up To the Last 2 Years

The first trailer for Bates Motel season five has been released and it's definitely got an unnerving creepy vibe. It looks like this final season is going to finish off the series strong. I love this trailer as it's the perfect set up for what's to come! A&E also released a full synopsis that offers us some intriguing details, like the fact that season five is set two years after the events of season four, and a lot has happened. Most importantly, Norman has descended deeper into madness.

Bates Motel Season 5 concludes the contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. Over the course of five years, the series has provided fans with an intimate look into the unraveling of Norman Bates’ psyche. Fans watched as Norman’s dangerous transformation came full circle when he methodically murdered his beloved mother, Norma, in the final gut-wrenching episodes of season four. Now, Bates Motel Season 5 picks up almost two years later and finds Norman (Freddie Highmore), a grown man now, living a double life. Publicly he’s a happy and well-adjusted member of the White Pine Bay community, but at home Norman struggles; his violent blackouts continue to increase as ‘Mother’ (Vera Farmiga) threatens to take over his mind completely. Meanwhile, Dylan Massett (Max Thierot) and Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke), since leaving White Pine Bay, have been living their lives blissfully unaware of Norma’s death and Norman’s full on descent into psychosis. Unfortunately, for them, they will soon find themselves drawn back into Norman’s insanity, while a vengeful Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell), who is currently incarcerated for a perjury, hungers for a chance to destroy his stepson and avenge the murder of his one true love, Norma Bates.
New faces find their way to the Bates Motel this season to further complicate Norman’s life and threaten to unearth his dark secrets. Viewers will finally meet the iconic Marion Crane played by Rihanna. In addition, a new couple in town, Madeleine Loomis, played by Isabelle McNally (House of Cards) and her husband Sam Loomis, played by Austin Nichols (The Walking Dead, Ray Donovan), as well as Sheriff Dana Greene, played by Brooke Smith (Grey’s Anatomy, Ray Donovan) become entangled in Norman’s life causing a chain of events that could blow the lid off Norman’s secret life. Lastly, fans will be greeted by familiar faces when Caleb Calhoun (Kenny Johnson) and Chick Hogan (Ryan Hurst) return with agendas of their own.

Bates Motel season five premieres Monday, February 20th at 10:00pm ET/PT on A&E, and I can't wait!

Awesome Test Footage From Fox’s Animated Adaptation of RUST

An animated big screen adaptation of the graphic novel Rust has been in development at Fox since 2011. The project had a great team of talent developing it that included Attack the Block director Joe Cornish and scribe Aline Brosh McKenna (Devil Wears Prada, We Bought a Zoo). On top of that it was being produced by X-Men franchise producer Simon Kinberg.

We haven’t really had any updates since the announcement. I don’t even know if Cornish and his team are even still involved with the project. I don’t even know if the project is even still in active development. But some really cool test footage has surfaced that makes me hope that the project is still alive because it looks like it could be an awesome movie!

In one clip was see the characters Jet Jones and Roman Taylor being chased by a giant robot on a motorcycle. The second video, which you can check out here, just gives us a look at a character motion test of a robot running through some farmland. The footage wonderfully captures the feel and spirit of the comic.

Rust is a high-octane adventure set in the prairie lands of an unknown time. Life on the Taylor family farm was difficult enough before Jet Jones crashes into the barn, chased by a giant decommissioned war robot! Oldest son Roman Taylor struggles to keep his family’s small farm afloat as the area heals from a devastating world war. While the rest of his family may not trust the mysterious boy with the jetpack, Roman believes the secrets of Jet’s past may be the key to their survival.

After watching this stuff, I really hope that this project is still moving forward. It looks like it would be a great movie!

Video Explains the Challenges of Editing an Animated Film

Editing live action films is certainly a skill, and I don’t want to make it sound like an easy job, but the basic functions of an editor’s job are fairly straightforward: organize shots in the best order you can to tell a story. As this video from the Royal Ocean Film Society reveals, the job description isn’t quite the same thing for animated movies — it’s a lot more involved than simply taking pre-existing footage and molding it into a final product. If you’re someone who hasn’t really considered what it’s like to edit an animated feature, this video should prove to be enlightening, and will hopefully give you a larger appreciation for all of the storytellers who work on animated movies.

Nearly 30 Minute Supercut of Jim Halpert's Faces in THE OFFICE

NBC's American version of The Office stuck around for a couple of years longer than it probably should have, but there was a long stretch of time in which that show was at the top of its game and was one of the best comedies on television. I think one of the aspects that helped retain its audience during its nine-season run was the knowledge that you were never too far from a Jim Halpert reaction shot. John Krasinski, the show's primary straight man, was surrounded by so many crazy characters that we typically got at least one of his bemused, sarcastic, satisfied, or surprised looks to the camera every episode, and I think it helped ingratiate the audience into feeling like they were friends with these people and it kept bringing them back to watch the next episode (that, and the show was often laugh-out-loud funny).

LaughingSquid points us to this almost 30-minute supercut from YouTuber Kelli M who compiled nearly every one of Jim's reaction faces over the course of the show.

Zoe Saldana Reveals James Gunn Is a Producer on AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and Confirms Gamora

It's no secret that the Guardians of the Galaxy team is going to be in Avengers: Infinity War. It's been teased by the writers and later confirmed by Vin Diesel. Zoe Saldana is now talking about the highly anticipated Marvel film, and in an interview with IGN, she seemingly confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy franchise director James Gunn will serve as a producer on the 2018 release. Her exact words were:

"James Gunn is a producer on [Avengers: Infinity War]. I know that he won't ever let the integrity of what he's created for the Guardians ever be compromised, so I'm at ease."

It completely makes sense that Gunn would be a producer on the film. This means that the Guardians team is going to be handled properly in the film, and I imagine Marvel won't do anything with them that Gunn isn't on board with. I imagine he'll also have a heavy hand in helping write for the characters in the film.

In a separate interview with MTV, Saldana was asked if we would see her character Gamora in Infinity War, and she nodded her head yes, but said that she hasn't seen a script yet.

Look, I'm just excited that one day we are going to see The Avengers fighting alongside the Guardians against Thanos! The MCU is about to get ridiculously epic!

Ben Affleck Reacts to New JUSTICE LEAGUE Photo and Confirms He Is Directing THE BATMAN

Ben Affleck appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live recently and talked a little bit about Justice League and The Batman. One of the things that was brought up during the interview was the latest photo from Justice League that features Batman in his new tactical suit hanging out with Wonder Woman, Cyborg, The Flash, and Aquaman.

Kimmel starts out by saying, "You are by far the most muscular of [them]. Was that in the contract?" Affleck replied excitedly, "I make that look pretty good! That's not bad!"

As the conversation went on, Kimmel straight up asked Affleck if he is going to direct the Batman solo film. When asked this same question in recent interviews, he sounded a bit iffy on it like it wasn't a 100% done deal. But when Kimmel asked about it, he assuredly said:

"I'm going to direct the next Batman, we're working on it. It's one of those things that's really frustrating because like Live by Night took me a year-and-a-half to write it and get it ready. And I worked really hard. It's just nobody gave a sh-t! Nobody was like, 'Where's Live by Night?!' But with Batman I keep on getting, 'Where's the f--cking Batman?!' And I"m like, 'Whoa, I'm working! Give me a second.'"

He makes a pretty good point there. Live by Night just isn't a high profile film like Batman is. I mean... it's Batman! Affleck has proven himself to be a solidly talented filmmaker so I'm looking forward to seeing what his take on Batman will be.

Kimmel also asked Affleck if his brother, Casey Affleck, would play Robin in the film and Affleck replied, "I think we could go back to the tape." The tape he's referring to is a clip shown earlier of his brother forgetting to thank him during his Golden Globe Award acceptance speech.

You can watch the whole interview below.

Original GHOST IN THE SHELL Is Coming Back to Theaters Before the Live-Action Remake Arrives

I've never seen Mamoru Oshii's classic 1995 anime Ghost in the Shell. But with Paramount's live-action American remake coming out in March with Scarlett Johansson starring, it seems like a pretty good time to catch up with it.

Deadline reports that Lionsgate is bringing the original film back for a limited theatrical run in 110 theaters on February 7th and 8th. There's also good news for those of you who absolutely hate reading subtitles. If you get a chance to check out the theatrical rerelease, you'll be able to choose how you see it: while the original Japanese dialogue with subtitles is an option, you could choose to see it with an English dub.

If you're not interested in seeing it on the big screen, Lionsgate is also reportedly preparing a "deluxe Blu-ray and DVD collector's edition" of the anime that will hit shelves on March 7th. The ScarJo version, directed by Rupert Sanders, arrives in theaters on March 31, 2017.

Two TV Spots for TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT and a New Photo Featuring Mark Wahlberg... on Cybertron?

We've got a couple of TV spots for you to check out for Michael Bay's Transformers: The Last Knight. They are both brief, but it looks like they do offer a bit of new footage. We also have a new photo from the film to share with you featuring Mark Walberg's character Cade Yeager exploring an interesting setting that looks like it could be the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron. That's just speculation on my part, but we have heard that the movie will dive deep into the mythology of Cybertron. We'll learn how they were created, where their story starts, and how they went from a slave-race to a sentient race.

According to USA Today, Wahlberg’s character "is a man on the run who teams with a British duke (Anthony Hopkins) and becomes embroiled in a massive conflict." When talking about the film, Wahlberg said, “It’s really smart and different.” He also talked about being “smashed through stuff," saying, “It’s not as cool as it would be had I been 25. At 45, it's all pretty strenuous, but I really like that Michael [Bay] gives me freedom to make the character my own, improvising and bring a lot of humor and elevate the emotion.”

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in theaters on June 23, 2017.

Look Back at Alfonso Cuaron's GRAVITY With This Illuminating Video Essay

It's been a few years since Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity took the box office by storm, and this video essay from Filmscalpel (via TheAwesomer) examines whether or not the film's outstanding effects were actually as innovative as many film critics thought upon the movie's initial release.

I thought I knew a good deal about the making of this movie (I'd heard all about the light box, for example), but I actually didn't realize that a majority of the digital effects had been largely completed before the actors stepped onto the set for the first time. That's the one way this film truly did break the mold — it was the first time an entire movie had been timed to its visual and special effects instead of the other way around. Watch the video below:

Director Rian Johnson on What He Wants From STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII and How He's Handling the Characters

$

Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson recently sat down with USA Today to talk about his highly anticipated film project. As a fan of Johnson's previous film work, I'm excited and curious to see how he handles the Star Wars franchise. During the interview, the director talked about what he wants from the film and how he approached handling its characters.

“I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were."

I have no doubt that it will be. We recently learned that the film's main focus will be Luke Skywalker and that we'll learn more about the character and his unknown past in this movie. The director also talked about Rey, Finn, and Poe, and how he wanted to explore their characters more, explaining:

“I wanted to know more about each of them, and that doesn’t just mean information or backstory, Figure out what’s the most difficult thing each of them could be challenged with now — let’s throw that at them and dig into what really makes them tick by seeing how they handle that."

When it comes to Luke Skywalker, who will be one of the most important characters in this next film, Johnson said that he's "approaching it with a take that I hope feels honest and real and is going to be interesting to folks and make sense.”

Luke is the most exciting part about this whole thing for me! I'm so excited to see his story explored in this movie! Johnson has always been a great storyteller, so I trust that he'll do the character justice in this movie. We know that Rey is going to form a strong connection with Luke in the story, and when talking about where we last saw the two characters in The Force Awakens he said that neither of them know "what’s going to happen and also having a lot of expectations in her head about how this is going to go.” He also said, “It very much feels like what we all go through in adolescence, the dawning of this new chapter of our lives."

Obviously one of the big questions on everyone's mind is Rey's parentage. This is something that Rey is also asking herself, and it ties into the dawning the new chapter in her life. Johnson said it's "a huge part of especially Rey’s character, something that was a really powerful part of her setup and something I really wanted to dig into with this."

Johnson revealed that there is a solid title for the film, and that it's something he has known since he started working on the film. Of course, he didn't reveal it. All he said was, "All in good time."

This is a dream project for Johnson, and he said, “The creative work has felt like play." He continued, "It’s felt resonant and meaningful because it meant so much to me as a kid." I'm sure all of the Star Wars fans out there can relate to that, which is why we all hope that Johnson gives us the best Star Wars film possible.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released on December 15, 2017. As we get closer to that date, we'll start to learn more and more information! Exciting times are ahead!

Tom Hardy Is Ready for the MAD MAX Sequel and Waiting for the Call

According to Tom Hardy, those Mad Max: Fury Road sequels are still happening and currently in development. When asked by The Wrap if they were still happening he said, “Yeah I believe so!” He seems very excited about the franchise and about Fury Road he said, “It was so good, man.”

I remember hearing the stories about how he wasn't really happy and frustrated on the set of the film. It's good to know that he loved the final outcome and is ready to get back to work on the sequel, he's just waiting for the call.

“I don’t know when that starts, but I believe that’s in the books. There’s a couple of those floating around. I’m waiting for the call to come.”

We really haven't had any updates on these Mad Max sequels since the beginning of 2016. That's when director George Miller was clarifying some comments he made confirming that he will indeed be directing more Mad Max movies. From previous interviews with Miller, it sounds like Charlize Theron's Furiosa will be the focus of the sequel. He has said:

"Yeah, she’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story.  Her backstory is really interesting.  We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying. One of the things that’s really gratifying, people are reading the film more than just the surface — the events of the movie, and just picking up a lot of stuff underneath it, which is very deliberate......So in many ways, the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue. And she’s got an interesting story."

I'd love to see her team up with Mad Max again for another insane action-packed adventure in the wasteland. I can't wait to see what Miller has up his sleeve for this sequel!

Editor of ATTACK ON TITAN Manga Arrested for Murdering His Wife

A former editor on the Attack On Titan series has been arrested for the murder of his wife. Comicbook writes that Jung-hyun Park was taken into custody by authorities for the murder of his wife who died back in August. Park is accused of strangling his wife to death as well as lying to authorities and claiming his wife's death was a suicide.

Park was present for the beginning of Attack On Titan, and served as an editor-in-chief of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which featured the Manga's launch. While his go-ahead to launch the series was likely a part of the success it would have, he had no part in the creative process of the show.

I write that because I'm seeing a lot of other people questioning how this arrest will affect the show. It won't in any way, so rest assured that season two of the series is still on track as far as we know.
