Carrie Fisher on Being Cast in STAR WARS and Wanting to Play Han Solo

carrie-fisher-on-being-cast-in-star-wars-and-wanting-to-play-han-solo

There’s an old archived interview with Carrie Fisher in a recent issue of SFX magazine. In that interview she talks about being cast in Star Wars and how when she first read the script, she wanted to play Han Solo.

“I remember I read the script out loud with a friend of mine, Miguel Ferrer. It read fantastic. We both wanted to play the part of Han Solo because that was the best part. I couldn’t imagine how they were going to pull it off [but] I definitely wanted to be in it given that they had a chance at pulling it off. Oh what a Star Wars that would have been.”

At 19 years old, Fisher ended up taking on the role of Princess Leia, which I always thought was a badass character as well. She was more badass than Luke Skywalker, that’s for sure. She went on to talk about her insecurity after she learned that she landed the part, saying:

“When I got the part they told me I had to lose 15 pounds so I thought I’d better lose that or they’ll fire me! I kept thinking they would realize they’d made a mistake so I kept very quiet, which, if you know me is unbelievable!”

She was so scared that they would fire her for some reason that she conformed to whatever it is that they wanted, and that included the iconic bun hairstyle. When talking about that she said:

“When [George Lucas] said, ‘We’re going to put that awful hairstyle on you,’ I grew to love it. ‘What do you think of this?’ they asked. ‘Do you like it?’ I said, ‘It’s fantastic!’ So that’s why that [hairstyle] exists. I did whatever they said as I kept thinking they’d realize what they’d done and fire me.”

I don’t think anyone would have fired her if she spoke up about anything she didn’t like about her character. Lucas made the right decision by casting Fisher in the role because she was awesome! I can’t imagine anyone else in that role. No one else would have been about to pull it off the way she did. She brought the perfect amount of strength and attitude that the character needed.

Watch the Hilarious Chinese Dubbed Bootleg Version of STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH

I don't know a lot of Star Wars fans who revisit Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. It’s an awful film that I've only seen twice myself. But today, we have a version of the film that you have to watch! We recently posted a video with highlights from this, but this is the entire English-dubbed Chinese bootleg version that has found its way online, and it’s freakin’ hilarious! You seriously have to watch this! Every time a character speaks I couldn’t help but laugh.

The dubbed title for the film in Star Wars The Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West and watching it is the best and most entertaining way to watch Revenge of the Sith! It's packed full of quotable gold. For example, instead of Darth Vader screaming “Noooooooooo!” at the end of the film, he screams “Do not want!”

YouTuber GratefulDeadpool uploaded the video onto YouTube, and according to io9 it’s “based on a machine’s poorly translated English subtitles from the bootleg’s Mandarin.” The end result is amazing, and it would be a blast to watch with a group of friends. You can watch it below! Before you watch the video here are a few highlights out of hundreds:

Famous Comedians Discuss the Highs and Lows of Standup Comedy in Trailer for DYING LAUGHING

0
0

"Comedy is purely a result of your ability to withstand self-torture.”

If you’re a fan of standup comedy then you’re going to want to watch this new trailer for an upcoming documentary called Dying Laughing. It features interviews with dozens of famous and popular standup comedians talking about their experiences as comics and the highs and lows that come along with it.

Some of the comedians that the doc highlights include Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Cedric the Entertainer, Amy Schumer, Kevin Hart, Sarah Silverman, Steve Coogan \, and the late Garry Shandling.

Ben had a chance to see the movi,e and as you’ll see in the trailer, he called it “A poetic, brutally candid examination of stand-up comedy.” Make sure to check out his full review here

A stand-up comedian is his or her own writer, director and star performer. Unlike any other art form, there is no safety net. In its singular realization, comedy thrives on a stage—often in front of hostile audiences. For most people, baring your soul and being heckled would be a life-changing trauma. For stand-ups, it's just part of the routine.
Directors Lloyd Stanton and Paul Toogood achieve a startling level of intimacy in a series of riveting interviews with Garry Shandling, Chris Rock, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, Billy Connolly, Amy Schumer and many other masters of the comedy universe; allowing in-depth access to the emotional and psychological highs and lows of answering the call to become a comic.

The film was directed by Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton, and it’s set to be released on February 24th. You can watch a previously released trailer for the film here

CONSTANTINE Is Coming Back as an Animated Series on CW Seed

Matt Ryan is set to reprise his role as John Constantine in a new Constantine animated series being developed for CW Seed. It's pretty awesome that there has been a desire to keep this version of the character going after the live-action series was canceled. Ryan also reprised the role in an episode of Arrow.

I always thought there was a lot of potential for the series, unfortunately, it never really got a chance to prove itself. It's great that they keep bringing Ryan back in to play the character. I thought he fit the character pretty well.

According to the announcement, the series will be coming in 2018, and it will consist of five to six episodes that run around 10 minutes each. There aren't really any more details other than that and the first look promo image above.

Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl producer Greg Berlanti will also executive produce the series along with DC film screenwriter David S. Goyer, who was also an executive produced the original NBC series.

netflix-releases-an-official-8-bit-stranger-things-video-game1

Netflix has finally released an official, playable 8-bit video game for Stranger Things! You can play the game online for free! That's not all, though. They also have 8-bit games for three of their other series including Narcos, Marco Polo, and Orange is the New Black

In the Stranger Things game, you play as Mike, and you try and outrun the monstrous Demogorgon, who spits balls of darkness at you. The only action you really have to do is jump over the obstacles. With Narcos, you play Pablo Escobar and escape from being captured in Columbia. You play Piper in the Orange in the New Black game and catch chickens while dodging cafeteria trays.

All the games are pretty much the same but with different settings and themes, and they’re pretty simple, but if you have some time to kill, then play it for a few minutes by clicking here!

The first promo spot has been released for Ron Howard's Albert Einstein biopic series Genius, and it gives us out first look at Geoffrey Rush as the legendary Nobel Prize-winning physicist. As you might image, he looks perfect in the role, and there's no doubt that he'll give an incredible performance.

The upcoming anthology series follows the "brilliant scientist through the ups and downs of his life, from failing to get his doctorate to developing the general theory of relativity."

The series is based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling book, Einstein: His Life and Universe, and the series stars "Johnny Flynn (Lovesick) as young Einstein; Emily Watson (The Theory of Everything) as his second wife, Elsa; Seth Gabel (Fringe) as the scientist’s long-time friend, Michele Besso; and Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) as Raymond Geist, a consulate official in Berlin, Germany."

Howard directed the first episode of the series and serves as an executive producer along with Brian Gazer. The first season of the series will focus on Einstein and the following seasons will each focus on a different innovator.

Genius will be released on the National Geographic Channel in April of 2017.

Video: Hollywood Sure Loves Making Action Heroines Use the Same Move

0
0

If you've been paying attention to mainstream Hollywood action movies over the past twenty years (and I'm guessing that'd be...yep, that'd be all of you), you've probably noticed a gradual increase in the number of ass-kicking female characters who have been able to hold their own. You've also probably noticed that they all tend to use the same move when they're in the middle of a brawl: the between-the-legs takedown. This quick video from Fandor cites eleven movies in under a minute that feature this tactic, and seeing it presented this way, it starts to become apparent that for as progressive as Hollywood sometimes thinks it is, this particular move seems to sexualize these characters to an unnecessary degree. After all, as the video points out, you never see dudes fighting this way. Just something to think about.

3 Funny New TV Spots for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Highlight Batman's Phases, Villains, and Robin

0
0

I've got three fun new TV spots for The LEGO Batman Movie for you to check out today! The first one that you'll watch, titled "Always Be Yourself," premiered during the Golden Globe Awards last night, and it hilariously highlights Batman's past phases. The other spot is called "Justice League Party," and it amusingly highlights the villains in the film. The third and final spot is called "Not Really a Hugger," and it focuses on Batman's awkward relationship with Robin.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Will Arnett reprises his role as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Zach Galifianakis stars as The Joker; Michael Cera as Robin, a.k.a. Dick Grayson; Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, a.k.a. Barbara Gordon; and Ralph Fiennes as Alfred.

The LEGO Batman Movie comes from director Chis McKay and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It's set to open in theaters on February 10, 2017.

Fan-Made STAR WARS Stop Motion Music Video: Luke, I'm Your Father

0

Here's a music video from Rohan Francis that features a stop-motion Darth Vader singing about how he and his son Luke Skywalker should rule the galaxy side by side. It's amusing (can't go wrong with a dabbing Stormtrooper), but there's one huge problem: the video commits one of the biggest misquote sins in movie history. The line isn't "Luke...I am your father." It's "No...I am your father." You'd think a guy who spent all this time making a Vader-inspired music video would know better!

Tom Hiddleston Teases Doctor Strange's Role in THOR: RAGNAROK

0
0

Tom Hiddleston had a good night at the Golden Globes as he walked away with a Best Actor Award for his work on The Night Manager. I'm sure that won't be the last award that he ends up winning in his career.

Before the award ceremony, MTV stopped Hiddleston on the red carpet and brought up Thor: Ragnarok and the fact that Doctor Strange is in the film. It was previously revealed that Strange would actually join Thor and Hulk on their journey and when asked to share a secret about his role in the film he teased:

"Doctor Strange has intensely cerebral time-bending powers. At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Loki's on the throne...what happened to Odin? So, maybe Doctor Strange has to help out with that particular conundrum."

That definitely sounds like some kind of revelation regarding at least part of what Strange's role in the story will be.  I'm just excited to see how this Planet Hulk and Ragnarok inspired storyline plays out!

To read through some of the other details on the film and what we will see from it, make sure to click hereThor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3rd, 2017. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, and Sam Neill.

Milla Jovovich Wants to Play Cheetara in the THUNDERCATS Movie... Sounds Good to Me!

0

A live-action film adaptation of the classic '80s animated series Thundercats has been in and out of development for years. I'm sure one day the film will happen, but it doesn't look like it will be made anytime soon.

If it does happen sometime in the near future, though, they have an actress who would perfectly fit as Cheetara: Milla Jovovich. It's not hard to imagine her in the role at all, and she would kick ass as the character.

During an interview with We Got This Covered, Jovovich expressed interest in taking on the role saying:

“I’ve always loved Thundercats. I heard they were making a movie, and then they weren’t making a movie. And I’m probably getting way to old to play Katra… no, Cheetara, that’s the one!”

Too old? I don't think so, but of course, Hollywood might think she is. They'd probably want to cast some young teen girl from one of those Disney channel series to play the character. When Hollywood does get around to making the film. I hope they make the right casting decisions.

What do you all think of Jovovich in the role of Cheetara?

SHERLOCK Theme Song Gets a Cool Violin Cover

In honor of the return of the BBC series Sherlock (which aired the second episode of its fourth season last night), YouTuber Anastasia Soina has put together a nice violin cover of the show's catchy theme song. I see a lot of these kinds of videos, but not too many involve violins; it's nice to mix it up once in a while.

Sherlock wraps up its fourth season (and maybe the entire series?) with one more episode, "The Final Problem," which airs this coming Sunday night on PBS.

Red-Band Trailer for Dwayne Johnson's BAYWATCH - "This Some Baywatch Motherf**ker!"

A funny red-band trailer has been released for Baywatch, and it got the red-band because it dropped a few F-bombs. The trailer offers us more insight into the story and lets us know that the movie is completely aware of what it is because everything "sounds like a really entertaining, but far-fetched TV show."

The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, and the story centers around "devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay."

The movie was directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), and it also stars Alexandra DaddarioKelly RohrbachJon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera. Baywatch hits theaters on May 19th, 2017. It looks like it will be a fun flick!

The Walking Dead

DirectDeals has created a fun series of comics that imagine what hit TV shows would look like if they were transported into the world of classic comic strips like the ones we used to read in the Sunday paper (aka the "funny papers"). They've taken shows like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Silicon Valley and turned them into Peanuts, Calvin & Hobbes, and Dilbert (respectively). But that's not all — see all of the amusing parodies below:

This Japanese Restaurant Has a Batman-Themed Hidden Passageway

0
0

In Kashiwa, Japan, just outside of Tokyo, there's a ramen restaurant called Chinrai. If GeekTyrant had a restaurant, I'm pretty sure we'd make access to its bathrooms work exactly the same way as this Chinrai location does.

I'm a sucker for hidden passageways. Have you ever seen a hidden passageway and reacted with "meh?" If so, you probably don't have any joy left inside of you.

Quick side note: I ran the text of that tweet through Google Translate, and this is what came out:

When I thought that there was no toilet, when asked to the clerk, is it said that there is a presence in front of you, what is it? Although it became it, it was awful when I looked closely

Pretty sure that's not actually what it says, but you get the point. The point is, Batman-themed hidden passageway FTW.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Will Focus on Luke Skywalker, Why He Went into Hiding, and More

0
0

Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson recently talked with USA Today about his highly anticipated upcoming film. In the process, he confirmed that the film will pick up immediately after where The Force Awakens left off and revealed that the film will mostly focus on Luke Skywalker, which is what fans are really excited about seeing!

Johnson explained, “I don’t want to skip ahead two years, I want to see the very next moment of what happens.” He then goes on to say that Luke Skywalker will play “a large part of the movie.” It will be spent addressing "why Luke’s there and what he’ll do next."

Rey's journey in the story will be spent dealing with "the realization that she has this power and this gift” of The Force. He continued, “She’s taking her first step to coming to terms with this thing inside her that she never knew was there and is just starting to reveal its potential.”

We've been hearing a lot of rumors regarding the film that you can catch up on here, but a lot of that still has not been confirmed. I'm just excited that we'll finally learn Luke Skywalker's story and what he's been up to the past 30 years.

LEGION Drops 4 Promos That Confuse and Excite All at Once!

0
0

I'm so excited about Legion, but I really have a love-hate relationship with these promos! On one hand, they've done a phenomenal job in keeping the show in mystery. On the flip side, I know NOTHING about the show, and I want to so desperately! Of course, I could jump into the history of Legion, but where's the fun in that? Maybe I've been too spoiled by the current state of Hollywood needing to fill you in on any and all details of films.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is all these promos are exciting, but you aren't going to learn shit about the show from watching them. Legion premieres February 8th.
