Ridley Scott Explains Why He'll Never Make a Superhero Movie and Says Today's Cinema Is Bad

Ridley Scott has never really come across as a director who would want to make a superhero movie. Over the years he's been offered plenty of opportunities to direct a superhero film, but in a recent interview with Digital Spy, he explained why he's never taken the opportunity:

"Superhero movies are not my kind of thing - that's why I've never really done one. [I've been asked] several times, but I can't believe in the thin, gossamer tight-rope of the non-reality of the situation of the superhero."

He then went on to use Blade Runner as an example of comic book type movie that he's done, explaining:

"I've done that kind of movie - Blade Runner really is a comic strip when you think about it, it's a dark story told in an unreal world. You could almost put Batman or Superman in that world, that atmosphere, except I'd have a f**king good story, as opposed to no story!"

Well, I'm sure fans would love to see another Superman or Batman film is a "F**king good story"! The director goes on to express his concern about the current state and future of the film industry saying he thinks that "cinema mainly is pretty bad". He then said:

"I want to keep doing cinema and I hope it doesn't affect those of us who still keep making smart films. I'm hoping it doesn't affect me."

I seriously doubt that legendary filmmakers like Scott will be able to make their films until they retire because they are trusted filmmakers who have a proven record of making great movies.

Disney Releases 2 TV Spots for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and an Official Track of Emma Watson Singing

Last week a very rough sounding piece of audio of Emma Watson as Belle singing “Something There” popped up online. The audio for that came from a toy at Toys ‘R Us. Well, Disney decided to release a much better and clearer version of that song sung by Watson, and it’s definitely a much better and more impressive sample. Watson is going to do just fine performing the music in the film. I imagine that sometime soon Disney will release another trailer featuring many of the other songs such by certain characters in the film, so stay tuned for that! I also included two new TV spots for the film that contain some amusing new footage for you to enjoy!

Beauty and the Beast hits theaters on March 17th, and it's sure to end up being a mega-hit for Disney!

Doctor Strange Will Reportedly Join Thor and Hulk on Their Journey in THOR: RAGNAROK

If you stayed to watch the post-credits scene in Doctor Strange, then you know that Thor pays a visit to him asking for his help. Well, it looks like Doctor Strange may play a much bigger role in the film than expected. The official Disney D23 site recently posted an article that offers some insight on what that might be:

“Thor: Ragnarok in November brings together Thor, the Hulk, and Doctor Strange to face off against intergalactic baddies both familiar and new.”

According to that, it sounds like we'll be seeing Doctor Strange fighting alongside Thor and Hulk in the story! I have no idea how big of a role Benedict Cumberbatch's Strange will have in the film, but I didn't expect to see him get into some intergalactic battles with Thor and Hulk! That's going to be awesome... if it's true.

I hope this turns out to be true because it could be pretty damn epic. This isn't an official description, but it sounds like maybe they have some knowledge about Strange in the film that the rest of us don't have. You can't just put Strange's name next to Thor and Hulk and not expect fans to get excited!

To read through some recently released story details click here, and for some of the other details on the film and what we will see from it, make sure to click hereThor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3rd, 2017. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, and Sam Neill.

Two New Photos From the Live-Action Film Adaptation of FULL METAL ALCHEMIST

A couple new photos have surfaced from the upcoming live-action adaptation of the hit manga and anime series Full Metal Alchemist. They both feature Ryōsuke Yamada as the alchemist Edward Elric. In the first image, he’s with his little brother Al who is in the suit of armor. In the second image, he’s in the middle of a battle against a beast created from a transmutation circle. This second image looks like a shot that we saw in the teaser trailer for the film that was released last month.

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

The images come from an official website for the film launched by Warner Bros. The site also announced that a large-scale exhibition for the franchise will be held this fall.

When previously talking about this film adaptation and its faithfulness to the original source material, director Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong) said:

"I want to create a style that follows the original manga as much as possible. The cast is entirely Japanese, but the cultural background is Europe. However, it's a style that doesn't represent a specific race or country. There will never be a scene in which a character says something that would identify him/her as Japanese."

The movie will be released in Japan in winter of 2017. I’m sure it will eventually make its way to the U.S. but we don’t exactly know when.

SUICIDE SQUAD Gets a Cool WATCHMEN-Style Movie Opening

In my opinion, Zack Snyder's Watchmen movie has one of greatest opening title sequences of any movie. It was done so damn well, and we've seen it reimagined for different films a few times over the years, but now we have one that was created for Suicide Squad. It comes from Chris Banks, and he did a great job with it. He did something a little different with it by including a completely different song — "I Started A Joke" by The Bee Gees. A different version of the song was used in the marketing for the film, and it works perfectly for this fan-made video.

Sylvester Stallone Says THE EXPENDABLES 4 Will Give Us Something Different

Over the weekend, Sylvester Stallone posted a video on Facebook confirming that The Expendables 4 is happening, "fingers crossed," and then teased that they've come up with some great ideas and that they plan on giving fans something completely different. We have no idea what that will be, but we do know that the movie will be released in 2018 and that it will go back to an R-rating. When previously talking about the film Stallone said:

"I have actually entertained the idea of putting the group into such an unnatural environment that it, in an of itself, creates extra suspense and tension: the 'fish out of water' scenario. That environment might not be time travel, but nearly just as jarring."

We don't know which actors will be returning for the fourth installment yet, but I'm sure Jason Statham, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews, and Randy Couture will all come back. You can watch the video of Stallone talking about the film below.

Supercut: Pablo Escobar Adjusting His Pants in NARCOS Season 1

I haven't carved out the time yet to sit down and watch Netflix's original series Narcos for myself, and after seeing this supercut (via LaughingSquid) of every time drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) adjusts his pants, I'm not sure if I want to never watch it at all or kick it straight to the top of my queue. This is a ridiculous and frankly befuddling number of adjustments, and apparently this is only using footage from the first season! My first reaction would be for this dude to get a belt, but on closer examination, it appears that he's already wearing one in a majority of these shots. Must be one of those little character tics Moura is doing to make his interpretation of the man feel more real.

Guys Hilariously Re-Dub STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH Using Chinese To English Subtitles

It truly is amazing how many things can get lost in translation. Using a Chinese pirated copy of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, these YouTubers have revoiced the film using the poor English subtitles presumably created from Chinese dialogue using Google translate. The result ranges from pilots saying, "He is in my behind!" to Mace Windu saying, "We do not compromise on the black."

In case you're wondering, the official Chinese version does not translate like this because they actually spend money to get people who can correctly translate! It may be more entertaining if they leave the translation to the pirates, though...

Things get slightly NSFW, but most of you have off work today anyway, so go nuts!

NerdApproved points us to this crazy custom-made Batman-themed guitar created by imgur user DarrynStead. The final product turned out pretty well, and he created a step-by-step photo guide so any of you who are handy with tools and jonesin' for a Batman guitar of your own should be able to use this as a template for making your own. Then you can call up Darryn and form your own two-person band; may I suggest "The Dynamic Duo" for a band name?

Portraying children's author Lemony Snicket, Patrick Warburton pleads with viewers not to watch A Series of Unfortunate Events! For those not familiar with the children's novels, this is a common theme in the series as Snicket continues to remind the audience that things to not get better for the children as they continue through their experiences with Count Olaf.

Of course, while the kids are in a miserable situation, the series is often more humorous than not. Do you think kids actually would enjoy a series that's filled with constant sadness? Check out the latest promo below and catch the show Friday, January 13th!

If you haven't watched any of these new videos and you hate CinemaSins...you're probably going to love this! Then again, we tend to rain positivity on the site, so we may be a bit biased.

Marco Beltrami Is Scoring LOGAN; James Mangold Calls It "A Movie For Grownups"

$

At one point, Requiem For a Dream director Darren Aronofsky was going to make a Wolverine movie. That ended up falling through, but it appeared as though one of Aronofsky's longtime collaborators, composer Cliff Martinez, was going to get his claws on the property when he was hired to provide the score for James Mangold's Logan. But according to a tweet from Mangold (found by FilmMusicReporter), his 3:10 to Yuma composer Marco Beltrami is the one scoring Logan. No word yet on whether or not Beltrami and Martinez are collaborating on the film's score, but that outcome seems unlikely.

Elsewhere, Mangold spoke about his aspirations for Logan, what he's trying to do with the movie, and how it's a film made with an older audience in mind than your typical superhero fare. It makes sense, considering how star Hugh Jackman first portrayed the character all the way back in 2000. X-Men's target audience has grown up, so there's no point in making another Wolverine movie aimed at younger teenagers right now.

"Logan is an attempt to bring an end to the line of Hugh's amazing performance as Wolverine. The ambition of doing that is to try to make an adult film about Wolverine, to make a movie for grownups. We're not trying to make a four-box, 'something for everyone.' We're trying to make a movie that stands out and is different because it's a grown up drama that also features intense action."
