Fan-Made STAR WARS BABIES Animated Short Features Midichlorians as Characters

"Star Wars babies, may the force be with you."

Star Wars Babies is a dark fan-made animated short that amusingly focuses on several "baby" versions of classic Star Wars characters and the midichlorians that live within them. The short starts out innocently enough, but then it turns to the dark side after the midichlorian characters show up and can't really do anything to help anybody as bad things happen to several of the characters. The video was created by the cheeksdown YouTube channel and it includes a catchy tune that could easily get stuck in your head.

Supercut: The Films and TV Shows of 2016

We all know that the lines between cinema and television have become blurry over the past few years with the rise of so many amazing high quality TV shows, but it's rare to find a supercut that includes moments from both mediums in the same video. They're almost always separated into "2016 Movies" and "2016 TV," but editor Max Shishkin wiped away the distinction and mixed both into this nice supercut representing some of this year's best visual entertainment.

GOTHAM CITY SIRENS Fan Art Shows Emma Stone as Poison Ivy and Eliza Dushku as Catwoman

While director David Ayer and actress Margot Robbie are preparing their Gotham City Sirens film for Warner Bros., fans have already started casting the movie for them. I've seen a couple names popping up repeatedly, and they are for Emma Stone in the role of Poison Ivy and Eliza Dushku as Catwoman. I think they would both be decent choices in the role, but I seriously doubt that's the direction that Ayer and the studio are going to go. Regardless, BossLogic whipped up this cool fan art showing us what the actresses could look like in the roles.

Guy Pitches Hollywood Film That Consists Entirely Of Movie Cliches

Can you name enough film cliches to create an entire Hollywood film? Georg Rockall-Schmidt pulled it off and was even able to create a film pitch doing it! While I don't think it'll ever see the silver screen, it's a good show of how Hollywood needs to freshen things up a bit! Let's get some more original plots in film!

Spoilery New Plot Details for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Other that what we've seen in the trailer for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and a few bits of plot information that have been revealed here and there, we don't really know much about the story of the film. If you'd like to keep it that way, then I suggest you stop reading now!

Screen Geek claims to have come across some new rumored plot points for the story, and if they turn out to be true, there are some big spoilers that you might not want to know about. Yes, these are just rumors for now, rumors that I'm sure director James Gunn will debunk if they aren't true. Just in case, though...

Here are the plot points that the site lays out for us:

Ego is made out to be the main villain at first, but it is actually Ayesha, although Ego is also an antagonist. Taserface serves as a secondary foe.

Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone are playing members of the Ancients, a race of immortal aliens who hire the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop Ego, as part of a bigger plan masterminded by Ayesha.

Yondu and Nebula are joining the team alongside Mantis, who is Star-Lord’s half-sister and a prisoner of Ego.

The Nova Corps will make an appearance and the Kree will also have a larger role.

Groot will remain child-sized for a large portion of the movie.

There’s a minor romantic subplot between Star-Lord and Gamora following the seeds planted in the first movie.

Thanos won’t appear in the movie, but will be referenced.

There’ll be no infinity stones, although they are referenced.

The movie ending leads directly to Avengers: Infinity War.

There are plans for a sequel, but James Gunn still isn’t officially attached to write and direct, although Marvel wants him to direct.

A few of these have already been confirmed by Gunn, such as Thanos not appearing in the film, and it was pretty obvious that Groot will remain baby/toddler Groot for most, if not all of the film. Any thought on these plot details that have been revealed?

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord,  Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017

Revisit the First Three Seasons of SHERLOCK in This Whirlwind Tribute Video

I have Sherlock on the brain right now after writing about it earlier this morning, and I can't wait until we get to see the season four premiere on January 1, 2017. YouTuber TheGaroStudios (the same people who cut together those Game of Thrones tributes) has edited a nice look back at the first three seasons that focuses on the relationship between John Watson (Martin Freeman) and Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch). It's not the type of video that will get you caught up with everything that's happened in the plot thus far, but more of a nostalgia-tinged, emotion-heavy tracing of the bromance between the two lead characters and what they've endured together.

New Photo of Hugh Jackman in LOGAN; 2nd Trailer Expected in January

We've got a new color photo of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the upcoming film Logan. He looks extremely pissed off! We also learned from Trailer Track that the second trailer for the film is expected to be released next month on or around January 16th. There's no official confirmation of that, but with the film set to be released on March 3rd, that seems just as good a time as any to release another trailer for the movie. The first trailer was so damn powerful that I can't wait to see what's in store for the next one. I think this final Wolverine film is going to be the best one in the franchise.

BAD MOMS Is Getting a Christmas-Themed Sequel

Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn's Bad Moms ended up being a pretty funny comedy. It turned out a lot better than I was expecting and was definitely one of the funnier, more enjoyable comedies of 2016. It was also one of the highest-grossing comedies of the year.

STX Entertainment has announced that they will be developing a sequel to the film and that it will have a Christmas theme. The news came from Bell in a video she posted on Twitter which reveals Bad Moms 2 will be released on November 3rd, 2017.

I assume the main cast members from the original film will all return to reprise their roles. I hope it turns out to be just as good as the first movie!

Watch Carrie Fisher's STAR WARS Audition and Read Ford and Hamill's Statements on Her Death

Yesterday we got the terrible news that Carrie Fisher passed away. She left a legacy of film projects and books behind her that her fans will always have. Her acting career launched with Star Wars, and as you might imagine, that will be one of the main projects that she will be remembered for. As a way to help celebrate her life and career I thought I'd post this old video of her auditioning for Star Wars with Harrison Ford. The scene involves her talking about the Death Star and the plans that they captured during a raid on the Imperial ship yards.

Ford also released a statement to TheWrap regarding Fisher's death in which he said:

“Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original.  Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely… My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her Mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her.”

At first, Mark Hamill said that he had no words, just that he was devastated. He later went one to say:

"It's never easy to lose such a vital, irreplaceable member of the family, but this is downright heartbreaking," Hamill wrote. "Carrie was one-of-a-kind who belonged to us all – whether she liked it or not. She was our Princess, damn it, and the actress who played her blurred into one gorgeous, fiercely independent and ferociously funny, take-charge woman who took our collective breath away. Determined and tough, but with a vulnerability that made you root for her and want her to succeed and be happy."

It's still hard to believe that she's gone. The next time that we see her on the big screen will be in Star Wars: Episode VIII, which she completed shooting, and I imagine that Lucasfilm will dedicate the film to her.

Spoilery New Plot Details of THOR: RAGNAROK Revealed!

Yesterday, we reported on some rumored plot details for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that you can check out here if you want. Screen Geek seems to have some big inside information on what Marvel is doing because they have also released some new plot details on director Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. There's already been a good amount of information on this film that you can catch up on here, but this latest info offers some spoilery story details that you might not want to know, so proceed with caution.

The info included here touches on the tone of the film, Loki's role in the story, what Thor and Hulk are looking for, Skurge's story arc, and more.

The movie will have a serious tone with little moments of humor, like The Winter Soldier, which is being used as a template.
Loki is the one that sends Hulk to the gladiator planet where Thor later ends up, Valkyrie is also a warrior in that planet and befriends Thor, but they don’t actually become a couple although there’s a spark between them.
Jane Foster is not referenced at all in the script.
Thor, Hulk and Valkyrie have to find the Soul Gem in order to defeat Loki and Hela, who has helped Loki usurp the throne, but is also planning to destroy the Nine Realms in the Ragnarok.
Loki is eventually betrayed by Hela and helps Thor defeat her, but then Loki betrays him as well and gives the Soul Gem to Thanos, as well as the location of the other Infinity Stones, for his own protection when Thanos launches his offensive on the universe.
Skurge is Hela’s champion, but he follows her under false pretenses, and turns against her when he finds out what her true plans are, holding off her armies alone at the cost of his own life to give Thor a chance.
Surtur and the Fenris Wolf will appear, among others.
Odin has been living as a vagrant on Earth ever since Loki usurped the throne and banished him. He gets his full power back in the final scene to battle the Ragnarok monsters.
Sif, the Warriors Tree and Heimdall are returning. Heimdall dies.
Doctor Strange will have a cameo.

Lots of interesting stuff here! But I'm still bummed out that there's no mention of Enchantress! When are they going to bring her into the MCU!? She's one of my favorite characters.

Video Breaks Down the Differences Between DIE HARD and the Book That Inspired It

First of all, just in case you didn't know, yes, Die Hard is based on a 1979 book called Nothing Lasts Forever written by Roderick Thorp. I've never read the book, but thanks to CineFix we have a video essay that breaks down the differences between the film and the book.

I'm sure a lot of you gathered together with family and friends over the holiday to watch Die Hard. Some people outside of the geek community don't see it as a traditional kind of family Christmas movie, but we all know better.

Hugh Jackman Reveals a New Poster for LOGAN - "Sunset"

$

Hugh Jackman has shared a new poster for his final Wolverine film installment, Logan. The poster came with the simple caption, "Sunset," and it's obvious why. This next Wolverine film feels and looks like a hardcore gritty western and what's a western without a hero walking off into the sunset.

It was reported yesterday that a second trailer is expected to hit sometime around January 16th. I hope it's true because then it will give us something exciting to look forward to. When previously talking about Logan, Jackman said:

"It's essential you see this as the story of a man who is struggling with mortality and legacy, and whether the world has been better off with him or without him."

The film is going to tell a very powerful story of redemption, and I'm excited to see how that story all comes together.

Logan takes place in the year 2024...Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.
In 2024, mutant births are severely in decline, and people aren’t sure why. We find out about a government-type operation called “Transigen” that is turning mutant children into killing machines. Logan ends up mentoring the girl, who has two claws instead of his three.

The movie will be released in theaters on March 3, 2017. For more information on the film, click here.

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING International TV Spot

Marvel has released an international TV spot for their highly anticipated film Spider-Man: Homecoming. None of it is in English, but it's still fun to watch even if you don't understand what's being said. The thing is, if you've seen the previously released trailer, then you already know what's being said.

This promo focuses more on the Spider-Man action and less on Peter Parker's John Hughes inspired high school days. Tom Holland previously talked about the film, explaining that it's more of a character piece "about this kid who’s struggling to talk to girls and also struggling to save the city… This is really a movie where Spider-Man’s not the finished article. He really does learn and he makes massive mistakes. It’s nice to see a kid do that and then try to rectify those mistakes.”

Jon Watts is directing the film, and it has a strong cast that also includes Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7th, 2017. To catch up on all of our Spider-Man: Homecoming news, click here. I'm sure we'll eventually see another full trailer for the film packed with new footage, but until then, here's this!

Video Essay Explains How Directors Build Character Moments Through Visuals

$

The Cinefix team is back with a new video essay, and this time they're focusing on the ways film directors can use visuals to depict revealing character moments. Even if you never went to film school or studied anything about cinematography or camera angles, you've seen enough movies to understand a large percentage of the shorthand filmmakers use to communicate ideas to us on screen. But one of the methods that isn't discussed as much as the others is juxtaposing shots with other similarly composed shots that took place earlier in the film. It's a nice way to give us information about how a character has changed (or stayed the same) over time, and this essay nicely lays out some solid examples that make their points very clear.

Watch Carrie Fisher Hilariously Roast George Lucas, Then Watch a Wonderful STAR WARS Video Tribute

Ever since Carrie Fisher tragically passed away, the internet has been flooded with tributes to the talented writer and actress. Here are a couple of videos I came across that I wanted to share. The first features Fisher hilariously roasting Star Wars creator George Lucas in 2005 when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. This is an example of how brilliantly funny and honest she was.

The second video is a Star Wars tribute to the actress cut together by our friend Gary at Sneaky Zebra. It's the best video tribute that I've seen made for the actress, and it came with the following note:

You can't distill a person down into just one thing... For me Carrie Fisher started as Princess Leia.
But like all characters you love, and relate to... As you grow you learn about the person behind the role... How their own stories can be bigger and more compelling than anything on screen, their enemies tougher... Their battles harder... and their Victories inspiring.
And whilst she began life for me as a Princess with some stolen plans... She has become someone who will leave a mark on so many... For reason deeper than any single status can explain...
Hope seems like a cute reference... but for so many reasons, I think she truly was a symbol of hope against many kinds of darkness...
People fade with the passing of time... But as long as we remember what these people did, what they stood for... Their legacy will continue far beyond any of us!

King Kong Goes on a Fiery Rampage in Concept Art for KONG: SKULL ISLAND

This cool piece of concept art from Kong: Skull Island featuring one of the most awesome clips that we saw in the trailer of Kong attacking people in a fiery rampage. He looks insanely pissed off, and there's no doubt that people will die by his hand in this scene.

The story follows a diverse team of explorers who are brought together "to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong."

Director John Vogt-Roberts told Empire that the story originally took place in 1917 and not during the Vietnam war.

"The script I first read took place in 1917. But when I started talking to the Legendary [Entertainment] guys, I was thinking, 'What weird King Kong movie would I want to see?' So I pitched them the Vietnam War connection, literally thinking they were gonna laugh me out of the room. And to Legendary's credit, they said, 'Cool. Let's figure it out.' The aesthetics of that time mixed with King Kong makes for an incredible genre mash-up."

The 1917 setting would have been interesting, but I think the Vietnam setting is pretty cool way to go.

Kong: Skull Island has a great cast that includes Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly. Then you have the supporting cast featuring Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell, and Eugene Cordero.

Kong: Skull Island opens in theaters March 10, 2017.

A Caveman, an Archer, and a Knight Try to Swat a Fly in Animated Short Film

io9 points us to a fun little short film about an innocent fly that wouldn't hurt...well, a fly. It's called "The Bloop Troop," and it follows three humans — a caveman, an archer, and a knight — as they attempt to murder the fly for no reason whatsoever. The brilliance of the brightly-lit animated short is in its simplicity: it's one of those kinds of projects that lends itself equally well to being assessed for exactly what it is on the surface or as a metaphor for just about anything you want it to be about.
