Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill Reunite on the Set of STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII in This Photo

Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher's General Organa reunite for the first time since Return of the Jedi in this photo from the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII. Both actors are in costume and seem to be enjoying some relaxing downtime on the set.

The photo was shared by co-star Oscar Isaac with the following note:

“She had no patience for pretense or small talk. She saw through things, at a different angle, with the gritty wisdom that comes from the hardest lessons. And, man, did she make me laugh. Will miss you dearly, Carrie.”

Fisher had already finished her work on Episode VIII, and there's no information on how her untimely death will affect the rest of the saga, but at least we will get to see her as Leia one more time.

Video: Here's What Is Inside a 4K Camera

Have you ever wondered what was in a 4K camera? Neither have I, but this video got me curious! What's Inside? takes a look at the innards of the high priced recording equipment, and while they don't know much detail, it's crazy to see how much stuff is packed into such a tiny camera!

Check out the video and that super thick lens below!

Some Early Concept Art Has Surfaced for Ryan Reynolds' DEADPOOL Movie

0
0

Here are few pieces of early concept art that were created for Ryan ReynoldsDeadpool. These were done by conceptual artist Andrew Leung before Tim Miller was even on board to direct the project. This is a note from Leung that accompanied the art:

"I worked on an early pitch of Deadpool before a director was decided upon. It's interesting to see what ended up carrying through and being used in the actual film."

This key frame art visually brought to life an early draft of the script that was written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Ryan Reynolds. They include a scene from the epic freeway battle; Deadpool lying on a bed bleeding; Blind Al putting together some IKEA furniture while Deadpool is sitting down holding a TV remote in his little baby hand; and one in which Wade Wilson meets Vanessa for the first time in the bar.

The Nerdwriter Explores the Use of Light in AKIRA

We wrote about The Nerdwriter's latest video essay covering "passable" movies a little while back, but I just noticed we skipped writing about a different video essay he created. In this one, he looked at the groundbreaking anime film Akira from 1988. We've written extensively about that film here on the site over the years (here are 10 fun facts, for instance), but I don't think we've ever delved into the way the movie uses light. That's the entire focus of this video, and watching it might give you a better appreciation for the film:

Creepy Cool STRANGER THINGS Demogorgon Animatronic Head Test

Below you'll find some Stranger Things test footage of the animatronic head of the Demogorgon creature. As you'll see, it's awesomely terrifying. I love that they used some animatronics to bring this nightmarish monster to life in the series. It is also such a cool creature design! I also included some behind-the-scenes photos featuring the sculpt of the head and full costume tests.

Darth Vader Vs. Xenomorph in Gloriously Badass STAR WARS and ALIENS Fan Art Series

Conceptual artist Guillem H. Pongiluppi has created an epic fan art series for Star Wars and Aliens. The illustrations feature Darth Vader and his Stormtroopers battling a horde of xenomorphs. There's even one of Vader coming face to face with the Alien Queen. This is some impressively badass art, and you can see more of the artist's work here

Shia LaBeouf Hilariously Torments Superman in New Fan Video

After watching this video it seems like Shia LaBeouf would have made a better Lex Luthor than Jesse Eisenberg. The video features Labeouf hilariously tormenting Superman. it was created by Adeel of Steel and features scenes from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with the inclusion of LaBeouf from that motivation green screen video he previously made. I know we've seen that footage a ridiculous number of times, but seeing it used in this way has its fun moments.

Rocket Raccoon and Solid Snake Get a Character Mashup

Artist Fred Rambaud has created this awesome character design that mashes together Rocket Raccoon from Guardians of the Galaxy and Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Oh! And just as a little bonus, the weapon that he's holding is a Blunderbuss from the sci-fi film Looper. I love it when artists just go crazy with their fan art!

It's Still Possible SHERLOCK Could End After Season 4

0
0

If the excellent BBC series Sherlock does indeed end after its upcoming fourth season, I'll be incredibly disappointed, but I can't say they didn't warn us. Co-creator Steven Moffat hinted five months ago that this could be the last we'll see of the deerstalker-wearing detective, and star Benedict Cumberbatch himself has said that the end of the fourth season "feels like the end of an era" and that while he's still willing to play the character, they're going to be taking a break to work on other projects.

Co-creator Mark Gatiss recently spoke with TVLine and didn't sound too optimistic about the future of the show:

Gatiss says “we honestly don’t know” if this season will be the last. “These three [episodes], we’ve very, very pleased with them. And everybody’s very keen to carry on. It’s just genuinely difficult to schedule everyone’s diaries. It was a nightmare to schedule this season… and that’s not going to go away. I mean, the success of Doctor Strange is not going to make Benedict short of work.”

With Cumberbatch and co-star Martin Freeman getting more popular by the day, it sounds like it's dreadfully difficult to get everything to align perfectly so they can shoot a new season. Hopefully they can all work the timing out in a few years and give us a fifth season (and maybe even more).

LOGAN Trailer Gets Remade in LEGO Form

We've already seen the trailer for Logan recut using footage from X-Men: The Animated Series, but now there's a different take on it for you to watch. Hugh Jackman's final movie as Wolverine looks like a haunting, emotional end for the character (and a solid action movie to boot), and as we see in this fan-made video from YouTuber thebrickranger, the trailer is pretty powerful even in LEGO form.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.

Carrie Fisher Has Passed Away

I've got some truly awful news to share with you today as it is being reported that Carrie Fisher has passed away. I'll be honest, I'm really heartbroken and saddened by this news. As many of you know, Fisher recently had a heart attack, which put her in critical condition. We later got an update from her mother Debbie Reynolds that she was in stable condition. Now there's this. She was only 60 years old. Family spokesman Simon Halls tells People:

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

For those of you who don't know, Billie Lourd is Fisher's daughter. Fisher was a big part of my life growing up, mostly because of her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Another favorite of mine was her role opposite Tom Hanks in in the classic 80s film The Burbs. She's been in several other films over the years and was also a successful writer, a career which began with her 1987 best-selling novel Postcards From the Edge. That book told the story of an actress struggling to rebuild her career after an overdose. She adapted it for the screen in 1990. The film, directed by Mike Nichols, starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. She really did have an incredible career that she and her family should be proud of.

One of my favorite memories of Fisher was when I attended her "Date With a Princessa" panel at Star Wars Celebration 2015. It was the first time I ever got to see her in person and listen to her talk about her life and career and interact with an audience. This was the one where she hilariously locked lips with a fan of hers up on stage! The actress was certainly full of life and lived it to its fullest.

Fisher was so much more than just Princess Leia, though. In her life, she was also a wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Fisher is survived by her mother Debbie Reynolds, her brother Todd Fisher, and her half-sisters, actresses Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher.

Our hearts and prayers are with Fisher's family at this time.

A Spectacular DIE HARD Poster Got Even Better With This Awesome Frame

0
0

Back in 2013, Mondo did one of their Mystery Movie screenings in Los Angeles, and they put on a hell of a show: they screened Die Hard, drove some fans past Nakatomi Plaza (which is part of 20th Century Fox's studio property), put fake glass on the floor of the theater for everyone to walk across, and brought out actor Reginald VelJohnson (Sgt. Al Powell) in person as a surprise guest.

You know how they said they made one of the posters on glass? Whoever got it that night eventually put it on eBay, and someone named Robert Davis snatched it up. Not content with owning an original piece of art, Davis (who hails from Georgia) worked with the folks at Oakland, California's Yzzo Studios to create a stunningly awesome frame that fits perfectly with the movie: a bank vault, just like the one Hans Gruber and his gang are trying to break into.

This setup is totally one of a kind. It must be awesome for Davis to know that this will never be replicated, and it's one of the coolest ways I've ever seen anyone frame a piece of pop culture art. Nice work! Check out a quick time lapse of what it looks like with different colored lights shining out from behind it:

Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill Tease a Black Adam and Superman Face-Off

0
0

Henry Cavill recently posted a photo of himself sitting down and having a nice friendly drink with Dwayne Johnson. It looks like there's more than meets the eye here, though. The photo came with an interesting caption that reads:

Merry Christmas a Happy New Year from Superman and Black Adam @therock . Today we drink like gentleman and come together as friends. We’re excited for what the future brings.. #DangerousGentleman #DCWorldsWillCollide #Superman

That seems like a pretty big tease that Superman and Black Adam will eventually face off in an upcoming DC movie, but what movie could that be? Well, Man of Steel 2 is definitely in early development and will be released sometime after Justice League, which is still a couple years out. Then there's Shazam, which isn't set to be released until 2019.

I would think that Shazam will just focus on the rivalry between Shazam and Black Adam. In regards to fighting Superman, Johnson has said in the past that it "won't happen in the first movie, but nothing would make me happier. He's got it comin'." So it seems like maybe Man of Steel 2 would be the next best option. Then there's the slight possibility that it could happen in the second Justice League movie.

Of course, Cavill and Johnson could just be completely screwing around with us and making the internet flip over the photo and write all kinds of speculation posts about it just like this. I hope that we do get to eventually see the characters battle each other, though, because that would be spectacular!

Supercut: The Films and TV Shows of 2016

We all know that the lines between cinema and television have become blurry over the past few years with the rise of so many amazing high quality TV shows, but it's rare to find a supercut that includes moments from both mediums in the same video. They're almost always separated into "2016 Movies" and "2016 TV," but editor Max Shishkin wiped away the distinction and mixed both into this nice supercut representing some of this year's best visual entertainment.

GOTHAM CITY SIRENS Fan Art Shows Emma Stone as Poison Ivy and Eliza Dushku as Catwoman

While director David Ayer and actress Margot Robbie are preparing their Gotham City Sirens film for Warner Bros., fans have already started casting the movie for them. I've seen a couple names popping up repeatedly, and they are for Emma Stone in the role of Poison Ivy and Eliza Dushku as Catwoman. I think they would both be decent choices in the role, but I seriously doubt that's the direction that Ayer and the studio are going to go. Regardless, BossLogic whipped up this cool fan art showing us what the actresses could look like in the roles.

Guy Pitches Hollywood Film That Consists Entirely Of Movie Cliches

Can you name enough film cliches to create an entire Hollywood film? Georg Rockall-Schmidt pulled it off and was even able to create a film pitch doing it! While I don't think it'll ever see the silver screen, it's a good show of how Hollywood needs to freshen things up a bit! Let's get some more original plots in film!

Spoilery New Plot Details for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

0
0

Other that what we've seen in the trailer for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and a few bits of plot information that have been revealed here and there, we don't really know much about the story of the film. If you'd like to keep it that way, then I suggest you stop reading now!

Screen Geek claims to have come across some new rumored plot points for the story, and if they turn out to be true, there are some big spoilers that you might not want to know about. Yes, these are just rumors for now, rumors that I'm sure director James Gunn will debunk if they aren't true. Just in case, though...

Here are the plot points that the site lays out for us:

Ego is made out to be the main villain at first, but it is actually Ayesha, although Ego is also an antagonist. Taserface serves as a secondary foe.

Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone are playing members of the Ancients, a race of immortal aliens who hire the Guardians of the Galaxy to stop Ego, as part of a bigger plan masterminded by Ayesha.

Yondu and Nebula are joining the team alongside Mantis, who is Star-Lord’s half-sister and a prisoner of Ego.

The Nova Corps will make an appearance and the Kree will also have a larger role.

Groot will remain child-sized for a large portion of the movie.

There’s a minor romantic subplot between Star-Lord and Gamora following the seeds planted in the first movie.

Thanos won’t appear in the movie, but will be referenced.

There’ll be no infinity stones, although they are referenced.

The movie ending leads directly to Avengers: Infinity War.

There are plans for a sequel, but James Gunn still isn’t officially attached to write and direct, although Marvel wants him to direct.

A few of these have already been confirmed by Gunn, such as Thanos not appearing in the film, and it was pretty obvious that Groot will remain baby/toddler Groot for most, if not all of the film. Any thought on these plot details that have been revealed?

The movie stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord,  Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017
