Watch Classic Movie THE KARATE KID Through the 1983 Rehearsal Movie

0

The Karate Kid was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. It's one of those classic films from the '80s that I still enjoy watching. For those of you who are also fans, now you can practically watch the whole film in a way you've never seen it before! You can watch it through the 1983 rehearsal movie that director John G. Avildsen posted online.

The whole movie was basically shot on a VHS camcorder as a proof-of-concept film to show how the story would play out. There are 13 ten-minute video segments that even include some deleted scenes and feature some the cast and crew members standing in for other characters that would later be replaced for the final film.

This was incredibly fun to watch and both amusing and interesting to see. Fan of the original film are going to enjoy this.

Video Speculates Why Rick From RICK AND MORTY Is Depressed

If you've never ventured into the world of Rick and Morty fan theories, boy, are you in for a treat. Because the show presents such crazy scenarios and concepts, the theories are almost as out of control as the show! This video talks about Rick's depression, and I didn't even know he was depressed! I just thought he was an alcoholic Doc Brown, but I guess it makes sense when you watch the video.

For those who don't have 15 minutes in their day to waste on this, it essentially speculates that Rick is aware there is a higher power than him.

Season three of Rick and Morty is expected to come out early 2017.

Director Says JURASSIC WORLD 2 Will Be "Way Bigger" Than the First Film

0

J.A. Bayona is assuring us that Jurassic World 2 will be "way bigger" than the first movie. Slashfilm reports that Bayona said the following about the second film in the new trilogy...

"I think what is tricky about doing the fifth movie of a franchise is how will you bring in new stuff and still pay tribute to what we all know and the legacy of the film. So, it’s the balance between the new stuff and the old stuff. I think Colin did a great job in the first one finding the balance between what people are expecting and what people are being again. I was kind of surprised when he pitched me the story because it leads the story to a place that we’ve never seen before and it brings some of the most important elements from the other films and makes something with them. I thought that was very interesting. It’s the second chapter of a trilogy so it gets the story to a place that wants you leaving more and more."

Bayona has said this film will be notably darker than the last ones, but I'm curious as to exactly "where" this new film will take us. What I would love to see (although I'm not holding my breath) is Jurassic Park in an environment that isn't confined to a remote island! I'm not quite sure how you take the dinosaurs off the island after the numerous accidents the park has had, but these characters don't seem all that bright anyway considering how many times they've reopened this park only to have people killed.

What elements from the other films do you think will be addressed that haven't already been covered in Jurassic World? Forgive me for saying it because I love the films... but it's not like this franchise is incredibly deep. Dinosaurs, jungles, and attacks... What more is there to add?

It's Still Possible SHERLOCK Could End After Season 4

If the excellent BBC series Sherlock does indeed end after its upcoming fourth season, I'll be incredibly disappointed, but I can't say they didn't warn us. Co-creator Steven Moffat hinted five months ago that this could be the last we'll see of the deerstalker-wearing detective, and star Benedict Cumberbatch himself has said that the end of the fourth season "feels like the end of an era" and that while he's still willing to play the character, they're going to be taking a break to work on other projects.

Co-creator Mark Gatiss recently spoke with TVLine and didn't sound too optimistic about the future of the show:

Gatiss says “we honestly don’t know” if this season will be the last. “These three [episodes], we’ve very, very pleased with them. And everybody’s very keen to carry on. It’s just genuinely difficult to schedule everyone’s diaries. It was a nightmare to schedule this season… and that’s not going to go away. I mean, the success of Doctor Strange is not going to make Benedict short of work.”

With Cumberbatch and co-star Martin Freeman getting more popular by the day, it sounds like it's dreadfully difficult to get everything to align perfectly so they can shoot a new season. Hopefully they can all work the timing out in a few years and give us a fifth season (and maybe even more).

LOGAN Trailer Gets Remade in LEGO Form

We've already seen the trailer for Logan recut using footage from X-Men: The Animated Series, but now there's a different take on it for you to watch. Hugh Jackman's final movie as Wolverine looks like a haunting, emotional end for the character (and a solid action movie to boot), and as we see in this fan-made video from YouTuber thebrickranger, the trailer is pretty powerful even in LEGO form.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017.

Carrie Fisher Has Passed Away

I've got some truly awful news to share with you today as it is being reported that Carrie Fisher has passed away. I'll be honest, I'm really heartbroken and saddened by this news. As many of you know, Fisher recently had a heart attack, which put her in critical condition. We later got an update from her mother Debbie Reynolds that she was in stable condition. Now there's this. She was only 60 years old. Family spokesman Simon Halls tells People:

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

For those of you who don't know, Billie Lourd is Fisher's daughter. Fisher was a big part of my life growing up, mostly because of her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars films. Another favorite of mine was her role opposite Tom Hanks in in the classic 80s film The Burbs. She's been in several other films over the years and was also a successful writer, a career which began with her 1987 best-selling novel Postcards From the Edge. That book told the story of an actress struggling to rebuild her career after an overdose. She adapted it for the screen in 1990. The film, directed by Mike Nichols, starred Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. She really did have an incredible career that she and her family should be proud of.

One of my favorite memories of Fisher was when I attended her "Date With a Princessa" panel at Star Wars Celebration 2015. It was the first time I ever got to see her in person and listen to her talk about her life and career and interact with an audience. This was the one where she hilariously locked lips with a fan of hers up on stage! The actress was certainly full of life and lived it to its fullest.

Fisher was so much more than just Princess Leia, though. In her life, she was also a wife, mother, daughter, and friend. Fisher is survived by her mother Debbie Reynolds, her brother Todd Fisher, and her half-sisters, actresses Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher.

Our hearts and prayers are with Fisher's family at this time.

The Dark Knight Sports a Gold Tuxedo in New Photo From THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE

Warner Bros. has released a new photo from The LEGO Batman Movie of The Dark Knight dressed up in a way we've never seen before! He's sporting a very sparkly gold tuxedo, which is part of a dress-up montage that will be in the movie. Director Chris McKay explains what this whole thing is all about in an interview with EW:

“In all the Batman movies, there’s always a big gala, but one of the things Batman doesn’t like doing is going out and seeing people and carousing as Bruce Wayne. He thinks Bruce Wayne is a bummer. He’d much rather be doing Batmanny things. But fortunately Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) entices him to come out of the Batcave by telling him, ‘Look, if you go out tonight to this gala, you can have a tuxedo dress-up party.’ So in this shot, this is one of the many tuxedos that Batman tries in a sort of dress-up party montage like Sex and the City.”

He went on to say:

“How do you get Batman to come out? What does Batman like? What do they do in Batman movies like this, where there’s always a gala, everyone’s always dressed up, and there’s always some kind of confrontation? We wanted to have fun and have things that were silly and ridiculous and also very LEGO-y: The fact that you can just pop different costumes on people really fast, which is something we did in the first movie.”

The movie certainly does look silly and ridiculous, but in the best possible ways! McKay also reveals that the dress-up montage is backed by the Al Jarreau song “Girls Know How,” which is a reference to the 1982 Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler movie Night Shift. The director loves that movie and says, “It’s fun to ‘70s up the production design and have something wild and expressive and colorful, but I also like filling out movie references in the movies that we do.”

The LEGO Batman Movie will be released in theaters on February 10th, 2017. There's no doubt in my mind that it's going to offer some hilariously funny entertainment.

As many of have already heard, Debbie Reynolds passed away last night one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher died. It's certainly been a tragic and sad week. But mother and daughter are now reunited. Both of these talented woman left behind a legacy of work that their fans will always have to enjoy.

Last year Fisher presented her mother with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last year, and she offered a wonderful tribute to her mom and then we got to see Reynolds give her acceptance speech as she reflected on her life and career as an actress.

Both these women had such charming personalities, and they shine in this moment in their lives together which you can watch below.

The Warp Zone Sing Acapella Version of WESTWORLD's Theme Song

We've written a lot about Westworld here at GeekTyrant during the show's popular first season, and considering more people watched that show's first season than any other in the history of HBO programming, it's safe to say it's a full-fledged hit. So it's not too surprising, then, that the team at The Warp Zone would suit up in cowboy gear to sing an acapella cover of Ramin Djawadi's haunting opening theme song. The only surprising thing is that it took them this long to get around to doing it!

(To be fair, they released this video a few days ago, and I'm just seeing it now. But still.)

SONS OF ANARCHY Creator Kurt Sutter Wrote a PUNISHER Sequel That Marvel Rejected

0
0

At one point in his career, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter was working with Marvel on developing a sequel to Thomas Jane's 2004 Punisher film. I actually really liked that movie and thought Jane made a great Frank Castle. It would have been cool to see a sequel to that movie, but obviously, it was never meant to be.

During an interview with Looper, Sutter talked about his experience working on the script that he was brought in to rewrite. This was the first time he was ever hired to rewrite a script, and he got overly ambitious on the project. He explained what he was trying to do with the character saying:

"So I turn in this draft, and I'm, like, 'Aw, yeah, I'm shakin' up Marvel, man!' And literally, there were people—including Gale Ann Hurd—who were, like, 'Uh…' They didn't know what the f— happened! And it's not like I didn't do the things I said I was going to do, but…I also did a lot of other things! And I'm a Marvel fan, but I was not a comic book kid. I didn't really get into that whole world until about 15 years ago, which is when I started getting into graphic novels. And that happened in Paris, because their graphic novel industry is decades beyond ours! But I didn't realize that you can't take liberties with some of the characters and some of the traits, because they are what they are. They're very derivative, they're stereotyped, but this is the guy that does this, and this is the guy who does this… So they're two-dimensional for a reason: that's the purpose they serve. So I was trying to expand the Marvel Universe in a direction it should not have been expanded in [Laughs]."

He then went into some detail on what he was looking to do with Frank Castle by bringing some emotional weight to him, which he believed that Jane could pull off. He even threw a love interest into the story, but it wasn't the direction that Marvel wanted to go.

"Doing the research on it, he's such an iconic character and really pretty much every vigilante since has some piece of that, but what I think I was trying to do… I'd known Thomas Jane a little bit, and I thought he was a great actor and had a lot of emotional depth that maybe some other action stars may not have. So I think I was trying to write to the emotionality of this dude and motivate the absurd violence with some kind of meaning. I don't mean that I was, like, f—ing Gandhi [Laughs]. But I was just trying to root it a little bit more in the mental anguish that he went through to justify it, and to take a little bit of that journey. And that's why I had the connection with the female character: because I was able to explore that pain through that relationship. So I think that's what I was trying to do: humanize him a little bit more. But it's the kind of thing where there's only X amount of time the movies, so you have moments of that, but you can't really have a subplot that explores that kind of thing. Not in a summer blockbuster or Marvel picture."

Sutter did get another pass at the script, but ultimately Marvel didn't move forward with it. When asked if there was any response from anyone along the lines of, "I wish we could do this, but we can't"? Sutter replied:

"You know, if there was, I don't think that's something that would ever have been vocalized to me. Look, it's not like I turned in the script and it was written in a different language. I mean, there were parts of it they liked. I think they realized what I was trying to do…and how wrong that was [Laughs]. So they tried to guide me back, and like I said, I did another pass, but poor Gale Anne Hurd—I think she's the one who sort of championed me in that process. And Kevin…We were sitting at a big table, and I think she started glancing over at Kevin, going [whispering under breath] 'I don't know what happened!' Anyway, I'm sure there was good feedback, but as a writer, all I ever hear is bad feedback! And I think at that point, Marvel was already…not quite the machine it is now, but it was finding its legs. And I think there was just a process that was going down, and there were a lot of people who were sort of being let go and given producing gigs. They started cleaning house a little bit at that time and managing the IPs in a different way, and Kevin pretty much led that charge."

I would love to read Sutter's Punisher script! He's an extremely talented writer with such an extreme, hardcore vision. Maybe at the time Marvel just wasn't ready for the kind of intensity that Sutter brought to the character.

Animated CASTLEVANIA Series Possibly in Development

0

It's very likely that an animated series based on Castlevania is heading to television thanks to the efforts of one of animation's biggest names. Fred Seibert (Fairly OddParents and producer for Adventure Time) tells IndieWire he's working on a series based on "one of the most popular games of the past 30 years".

That's a pretty broad list until you realize that Frederator has the animation rights to Castlevania, and then you can stop racking your brain. The question is, though, can Seibert and his team pull off a series similar in tone to the game. There are a couple of things to consider...

Sure Fairly OddParents was a goofy series, but Adventure Time took some dark turns in its later stages and actually had a pretty good lore without making it too scary for kids.

On the flip side, I would say most of Adventure Time's direction and tone was thanks to original creator Pendleton Ward, and Nickelodeon has this awful tendency to ruin every property it touches outside of its creation sphere (Series of Unfortunate Events movie, TMNT movie...).

I'm curious to see if the project comes to light, only because I've been desperate for a cartoon that isn't some goofy ass random stuff! Don't get me wrong I love that stuff...but where's the action?! Castlevania needs to reboot that '80s action cartoon vibe!

Anyone else have some suggestions for this potential new series?

Now You Can Mount a Xenomorph Skull on Your Wall, If That's Something You'd Enjoy Looking at Every Day

I like the Alien franchise as much as the next person, but I don't like it nearly enough to want to mount a Xenomorph skull on my wall. But hey, I'm not judging — there are probably a ton of you who see this 36-inch long replica from NECA and are stoked at the prospect of hanging it up prominently for all to see and staring it down every time you walk past it, as if you engaged in battle with this beast and killed it yourselves. You do you.

The skull is available for pre-order now for $269.99 (yikes!), and deliveries are expected to begin in March of 2017.

With us all still reeling from the loss of Carrie Fisher, this news is truly bittersweet. Variety announced that Fisher had completed voice recordings for two upcoming episodes of Fox’s animated comedy series Family Guy

Fisher first guest starred on the animated comedy as Angela, supervisor to Seth MacFarlane’s Peter Griffin at the brewery where he works, in 2005. She voiced the character in 20 episodes that have aired, most recently in an episode that premiered Dec. 4.
MacFarlane, who, in addition to voicing Peter Griffin is the creator and executive producer of Family Guy, wrote Tuesday on Twitter, “Carrie Fisher was smart, funny, talented, surprising, and always a hell of a fun time to be around. Family Guy will miss her immensely.”

The date of the episodes is to be determined. This is not the last place that we will see Fisher, she had completed her work in Star Wars: Episode VIII and she had just completed filming for her recurring role in the series Catastrophe

When T2 Trainspotting begins, it's been 20 years since Renton (Ewan McGregor) has been home. As you might expect, it's a big shock for Spud (Ewen Bremner) when he returns. We have a couple new featurettes for the film that focus on Spud and Renton and where they are in their lives when the film picks up. Renton is clean of heroin, but Spud is still struggling with it. Renton tries to help him get clean and find purpose. Bremner and McGregor talk about their characters in the videos below and fill us in on how they've been imagined for the film.

First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal.
Twenty years have gone by.
Much has changed but just as much remains the same.
Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home.
They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).
Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.

T2 Trainspotting opens January 27, 2017 in the U.K. and Ireland and March 3rd, 2017 in the U.S.

Joyous IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE Poster Art by Barret Chapman - "I'll Give You The Moon, Mary"

One of my favorite movies to watch with my family during the holiday season is director Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life. It's such a great film that never fails to bring a tear to my eye.

Artist Barret Chapman pays tribute to this wonderful Christmas film with a piece of poster art he created for the Hero Complex Gallery. It's called "I'll Give You The Moon, Mary," and it focuses on the charming moment in the story when George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) tells Mary (Donna Reed) that he’ll lasso the moon to pull it down for her if that’s what she wants.

If you want to order yourself a poster to add to your annual Christmas decorations, click here.

Santa Fights Jesus in STAR WARS: THE SANTA MENACE Short Film

I've got an amusingly ridiculous Christmas short film for you to watch today called "Star Wars: The Santa Menace," and in it, we get to watch Santa and Jesus have a lightsaber battle over who should control Christmas. The short comes from The Dangerous Brew, and they offer this brief plot summary:

Jedi Jesus must defeat the ultimate Sith, Santa Claus, in order to end the war on Christmas, once and for all.

I hope you're all having a great holiday season!

The World Needs More DIE HARD Christmas Ornaments

One creative Redditor decided their Christmas was not complete until they had an ornament for their favorite Christmas movie, Die Hard. Seeing as the market doesn't have much in the way of merchandise for the film this time of season, StuFx took it into their own hands to make an ornament that shows John McClane making his way through an air vent!

I'm super jealous and want this on my Christmas tree next year! Anyone else have homemade Christmas ornaments they'd like to share?
