The Classic Christmas Movie ELF Recut as a Psychological Thriller

$

Director Jon Favreau's heartwarming Christmas movie Elf has been given a dark and disturbing overhaul. I've got great fan-made recut trailer for the film that paints the story as a crazy psychological thriller. It was created by CineFix, and the result is great! It removes all of the humor and uses all of the right clips from the film with added intensified music to give it that unsettling vibe. I think you'll all love how this turned out!

Thought your holiday family dinner was a nightmare? Wait until you see your favorite elf in this creepy version of the holiday comedy. At least now you'll definitely be up all night to wait for Santa Claus.

Kylo Ren Reviews ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY

The team at Auralnauts is back with a new video in which "Kylo Ren" reviews Gareth Edwards' newest film and the latest entry into the Star Wars canon, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It's a film Joey unabashedly loves, but also one that — surprise, surprise — I have some issues with. (Not least of which: the fact that there are 46 shots they promoted that ended up not being in the final film.)

Be warned: there are spoilers ahead. But seriously, you're visiting GeekTyrant a few days after a new Star Wars movie has come out. You've seen it by now.

FULLER HOUSE Gets Renewed for a Third Season at Netflix

I have three girls who watch that Fuller House series on Netflix over and over and over again. I enjoyed watching the original series when I was growing up, but I gotta say... I can't stand watching Fuller House. I find it more annoying than anything. There's obviously an audience out there for it, though! There's a big fanbase and people are watching, which is why Netflix has officially renewed it for a third season. I guess the bad writing is all part of the series' charm? The announcement came in the form of a video posted on Twitter that you can watch below. It reveals that season three will be coming in 2017.

Maybe they'll keep it going until they can entice the Olsen twins to finally appear in it. This just seems like it's going to be one of those shows that will go on for years. I don't know why, it just seems like it's the kind of world we live in now, where a great quality show like Agent Carter will die after two seasons but a terribly scripted and ridiculous show like Fuller House will thrive.

In the reboot, Candace Cameron Bure's D.J. Tanner-Fuller is a widowed mother of three boys who moves back into her family home with sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), who join together to help raise D.J.'s kids and Kimmy's daughter.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN VFX Reel Shows Off the Batmobile's Badassery

We've already seen a visual effects clip reel from Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman this year, but Scanline VFX (a different VFX company that worked on the film) is here with a brand new one. It's not a surprise that Snyder — the guy behind green screen-heavy movies like 300 — used a ton of green screens in a movie of this scale, but there's a chance you may have been fooled into thinking that some of these things were shot practically. Take a look and see if you knew what was fake and what was real below:

Pennywise the Clown Terrorizes the Sewers in New Photo From Stephen King's IT

pennywise-the-clown-terrorizes-the-sewers-in-new-photo-from-stephen-kings-it

Over the weekend a photo from the big screen adaptation of Stephen King's It surfaced, but it was unauthorized and we were asked to take it down by the studio. Don't worry, though! We have an official new image from the film thanks to EW that's even better than the one they asked us to take down!

This photo shows Bill Skarsgård as the terrifying Pennywise the Clown peeking his head out of a sewer pipe. As many of you already know, the sewer is the place that Pennywise calls home. I would be scared shitless if that clown head popped out from a dark corner from out of nowhere and started staring at me.

The film is based on the novel by Stephen King, whose story recalls a promise made 28 years ago that forces seven adults to reunite in Derry, Maine, where as teenagers they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that summer return as they prepare to do battle with the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers once more.

The film is being released in two parts. The first one is set in the 1980s and will focus on the "Losers Club" as they come together to battle It. The second film is set 30 years later in modern times when the monster returns and the group of friends are forced to come back together to destroy It once and for all.

The movie stars Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special) as Bill Denbrough, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Richie Tozier, newcomer Sophia Lillis as Beverly Marsh, Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween) as Stan Uris, Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Eddie Kaspbrak, Chosen Jacobs (Hawaii Five-0) as Mike Hanlon, and Jeremy Ray Taylor (42) as Ben Hanscom.

The first film is set to be released on September 8th, 2017.

In case you haven't heard, The Science Channel is in the midst of a 10 day non-stop Mythbusters marathon! Unfortunately, you're three days late to the game if you're just now finding out, but on the bright side, you still have a week left to binge! The marathon has been packed with small homages to the show as well as some humorous content. I especially like this new commercial which breaks down all the bad ideas on the show!

Give it a watch and make sure to tune into the marathon! Apparently, they're rebooting the series soon too with a new reality show looking for the next Adam and Jamie! I wonder if it'll live up to the original?

As this Kaptain Kristian video will illustrate, everything I just said sounds a lot better when you rhyme it.

First Photo From Pixar's COCO Features a Pivotal Moment in the Story

Disney has released the first photo from Pixar's upcoming new animated film Coco. According to EW, it gives us a look at a pivotal moment in the story, which follows a 12-year-old boy named Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician despite his family's ban on music. As the previously released synopsis explains:

Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

It's explained in the report that his family is an average family of shoemakers that has completely banned music for generations. Why? Because Miguel's great-great-grandmother Imelda was abandoned by her husband to pursue a "life hitting high notes." That doesn't stop Miguel from being inspired by his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) to live out his dream, and this is where the new image comes into play.

In the shot above, you’re catching Miguel in a beautiful, pivotal moment: He’s just committed a literal grave act and borrowed — just borrowed! — the guitar hanging in De La Cruz’s tomb. Unfortunately, it’s Dia de Muertos, and Miguel’s well-intentioned deed of grave robbery is badly-timed, and he’s about to be inadvertently sent to the Land of the Dead, where he’ll come face to face with the same great-great-relatives who banned music in his family. Just guess how happy they’ll be when they find out how he got there.

Director Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) explained that it's not “a break-out-into-song musical,” but rather, one “set against the backdrop of musical performance.” He also said:

“The day John Lasseter gave the thumbs up for this movie, I immediately felt this huge weight drop onto my shoulders because I knew that we were doing something different than we had ever made at the studio and that for the first time, we were going to have this enormous responsibility to do right by this culture and not lapse into stereotype or cliché.”

He went on to say that they reached out to a lot of on experts on Dia de los Muertos and wanted to involve as many people as they could to make sure that the story they tell is accurate to the holiday.

"This is a story we want to share with the world, but it’s also been particularly important to us that when the Latino community sees the film, that it resonates and it feels like we got it right, and that’s what we’re really trying to do. We all feel the gravity.”

Coco will be released on November 22, 2017

Extremely Wacked-Out Trailer for the Sci-Fi Film PASSENGERS

Aldo Jones is the master of making weird and wacky trailers! We've posted a lot of his recut trailers on the site, and his latest absurd creation is for Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence's latest sci-fi film Passengers. I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but the reviews haven't been too kind. I'll eventually see it for myself, but in the meantime, I enjoyed the insanity of this unpredictable trailer that features Jack Black's head on a motorized body and a bunch of crazy stuff.

Chris Columbus Is Aggressively Working on GREMLINS 3 According to Zack Galligan

Over the years there have been a few updates on Gremlins 3, and if producer Chris Columbus has his way it's going to happen eventually. During a recent interview with Bleeding Cool, Gremlins star Zack Galligan offered an update on the film, saying that Warner Bros., Columbus, and Steven Spielberg all want it to happen. He also says that Columbus has been aggressively working on it. Here's what he had to say:

"I think you can tell what’s happening with Gremlins 3 the same way you could tell with Gremlins 2. It’s the same people and they tend to work the same way. There is a huge time gap but it’s Warner Bros, Spielberg and Chris Columbus. Now, Chris Columbus didn’t have anything to do with Gremlins 2 – because by his own admission he didn’t see a franchise. He kind of regrets it I believe, but he was ‘one and done’ I don’t think he cared for Gremlins 2 and the direction some of the characters went in, so he’s kind of wrested control back. Everything I’m quoting is stuff he’s publicly said…
"There will NEVER be a remake, there will NEVER be a rebootm there will only be a SEQUEL.
"He has been aggressively working on a Gremlins 3 that takes place in present day. He tantalisingly says there will be some new characters and some old characters – I guess in the style of a Force Awakens type sequel – One thing we know for sure is they have a writer on board. The only insight I can give is the following: There was a 6 year gap between Gremlins and Gremlins 2 most of that time was spent with them writing and rejecting ideas and re-writing. One of the ideas that was rejected was ‘gremlins in Vegas’ they went with that for 18 months and felt it was too expensive. Eventually they came up with the tower idea, where essentially I’m working for Donald Trump our new President! That took six years to happen. Carl Ellsworth, has been apparently working on the script for a year and a half now. If no new names start appearing on the IMDB listing then that means they like the script. If new names start appearing, y’know Kevin Smith appears, it means it’s back in rewrites with a new vision. Warner Bros definitely wants it, Chris Columbus wants to do it because he’d like to undo the Gremlins 2 thing as he wasn’t thrilled with it and Spielberg wants to do it I imagine – because he’s Spielberg – and why wouldn’t he want to do it. Once he’s found the right script he can attach his name and make a ton of money. Not that there’s anything wrong with that."

It's great to hear that the film project still has traction and that it's actively being worked on. Sure, it's probably not going to happen for awhile, but as a fan of the films, I'm actually pretty excited about the prospect of seeing a third Gremlins movie! Hopefully, they come up with the right story and script that will offer fans an awesome sequel! I'd absolutely love to see director Joe Dante return to direct the thing!

The 39 Actors Who Have Had the Most Movie Deaths; Surprisingly Sean Bean Isn't Number One!

When we think about actors who constantly die in the movies they star in, most of us will think about Sean Bean. It seems like the guy has been killed off in almost every project that he's been a part of over the past 20 years.

You might be surprised to hear that there are other actors who have been killed off in films more than he has! Nerdist actually put together a list ranking the top 39 actors who have been killed in film and TV shows. Bean takes the number four spot with 32 deaths!

The three actors who top the list are Vincent Price at number 3, Bela Lugosi at number 2, and John Hurt taking the number one spot with 43 deaths. You can check out the graph that they put together below.

Are you surprised to hear that Bean came in at number 4? You could say that he's number one for the modern generation!

New Photo of Scarlett Johansson as the Major in GHOST IN THE SHELL

Above you'll find a new photo featuring Scarlett Johansson as The Major in the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. I've really enjoyed everything that I've seen from this film so far, and it looks a lot better than I expected it to be. It looks like it there's a chance that could be just as badass as the anime films that have been made.

When talking to Empire about taking on the role of the Major and the film itself, Johansson tells them:

"I've been a person without a body, now I'm a mind in a synthetic body. Eventually I'll go back to playing a body and brain together. This is a ride that's not just explosive and exciting, but also curious and reflective"

Director Rupert Sanders adds a bold statement that could come back and bite him in the ass if the movie ends up being crap. But he assures fans, "This isn't the shit Hollywood version."

As excited as I am for the film and as good as it looks, we'll just have to wait and see about that because there's still a lot that can go wrong.

Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

The film is based on the classic manga series that was written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. The movie also stars Beat Takeshi Kitano as Daisuke Aramaki, Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet, Michael Pitt as Kuze, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, and Kaori Momoi. The members of Section 9 are played by Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo.

Ghost in the Shell is set to be released in theaters on March 31, 2017. To get caught up on all the news about the film click here.

Here's Some Cool Footage of Hong Kong Disneyland's IRON MAN EXPERIENCE Ride

The Iron Man Experience attraction recently had a soft opening, and some video footage has surfaced online showing us what we can expect from the ride if any of us ever decide to go to Hong Kong to check it out.

The ride won't officially open until January 11th, 2017, and depending on how the soft open goes, that final version of the ride could change from what we are seeing in the three videos below.

The first video gives us a walkthrough of the attraction's themed area that takes us through the history of Iron Man. That includes Stark Expo and the new Stark Tower in Honk Kong, which is powered by a giant arc reactor, and then leads to the latest vehicle he created that guests will take a test drive in.

The second video is a POV shot of the ride itself where everything seems to be fine until Hydra attacks the city. At that point, guests join Iron Man in a battle to protect the arc reactor and save the city! It looks like fun!

The third video features an Iron Man Tech Showcase that's presented by Stark Industries. This is where guests will get to meet Iron Man himself and take photos with him.

Watch the videos and let us know if you would take a trip to Hong Kong to ride it!

Bust a Move With This Video Tribute to Dance Scenes in '90s Movies

I've spent the last week sitting on my parents' couch and eating a ridiculous amount of food that was delicious but incredibly unhealthy, so the idea of moving around actually sounds pretty great right about now. Editor Robert Jones provides a bit of inspiration with a new supercut of dance scenes from '90s movies, set to Fatboy Slim's "Praise You." He did a pretty good job of including all of the major examples that immediately come to mind, but check and see if your favorite '90s flick made the cut below:

THE MUMMY Will Tell Two Origin Stories

$

The 2017 version of The Mummy aims to tell two origin stories. Director Alex Kurtzman says that while the film will serve as a reboot to the popular Mummy films of the past, it will also tell a different story, one which Entertainment Weekly thinks could spur the Universal Movie Monsters franchise...

“There’s an origin story happening on two different fronts...I won’t tell you too much more than that, other than to say: One of the things that I think has defined Tom Cruise movies, for 30 years, is that Tom Cruise always saves the day. You know whenever you’re in a Tom Cruise movie that he’s gonna figure out a way to save the day. And that’s great, and it’s why I pay my money to see his movies. However, in the context of a monster movie, it’s challenging, because monster movies are about characters who are often very out of control, and don’t know how to save the day. The first thing I said to Tom was, ‘It’ll be scarier if we can take away the fundamental knowledge that you’re gonna solve the problem.'”

I would love if The Mummy didn't lead to a series that only showed off "The Mummy" if that makes sense. Considering that Russell Crowe is playing Dr. Jekyll, I think it's possible that Cruise's character discovers a force that's driving multiple monsters worldwide! I'm sure I'm reaching a bit, but the idea sounds a lot cooler than "let's make The Mummy again, but this time it's serious." Wouldn't you love to see a Tom Cruise led series that resurrects all the former Universal movie monsters?

Lucasfilm Discusses Bringing Characters From A NEW HOPE Back in CGI Form For ROGUE ONE

A few characters from Star Wars: A New Hope awesomely make an appearance in Rogue One. These characters were brought back to life in CGI form. I won’t tell you who they are right now in case you haven’t seen the movie yet, but Lucasfilm discusses their decision to bring these characters back to life as well as the work that went into making it happen with the New York Times.

One of the biggest surprises in the film for me was how big a role Grand Moff Tarkin played in Rogue One’s story! I already knew he would be in the film, but I didn’t think his part would be that big, so that was awesome. I thought ILM did an amazing job bringing this character played by Peter Cushing back to life.

There was a bit of controversy surrounding this decision because Cushing died in 1994, and there have been debates about the ethics of “prolonging the life span of a character and his likeness beyond that of the actor who originated the role.” They did have permission from the Cushing estate to do it, and I think that’s what ultimately eased everyone’s mind.

When talking about the character, Kiri Hart, a Lucasfilm story development executive and “Rogue One” co-producer said:

“If he’s not in the movie, we’re going to have to explain why he’s not in the movie. This is kind of his thing.”

To bring Tarkin back to life they hired an English actor named Guy Henry who has the same physical build as Cushing and could also speak in similar voice and tone. They strapped him up with motion-capture gear on his head so that they could digitally reconstruct his face with CG technology. It’s described by John Knoll, the chief creative officer at ILM and a visual effects supervisor, as being “a super high-tech and labor-intensive version of doing makeup.”

“We’re transforming the actor’s appearance to look like another character, but just using digital technology.”

I thought that they did a fantastic job with the look of Tarkin. One of the main things that they had to figure out between A New Hope and Rogue One was the difference in lighting that they had to adjust for the character. They go into a lot of other little details in the full interview so make sure to check that out. I will say, though, that at one point they talked about only using Tarkin in a hologram form, which I’m happy they didn’t do. Knoll said:

“This was done for very solid and defendable story reasons. This is a character that is very important to telling this kind of story.”

As for including a young, digital version of Princess Leia at the end of the film, she was an essential part of the story as well. Hart explains that she was there “to deliver on that moment of hopefulness, that is really underscored by the fact that you do get to see her face. That’s the best possible use of effects, to enhance the meaning and the emotion of the experience for the viewer.”

Like Tarkin, Leia had an actress stand in for her with motion capture head gear. The actresses name is Ingvild Deila. The people at ILM understand that this is a technique that should be used sparingly. Knoll says:

“It is extremely labor-intensive and expensive to do. I don’t imagine anybody engaging in this kind of thing in a casual manner. We’re not planning on doing this digital re-creation extensively from now on. It just made sense for this particular movie.”

That’s good to know, but it was still really cool to Tarkin and Leia in the film. That made me and a lot of other fans very happy.

Cool Retro Poster Celebrating Quentin Tarantino's PULP FICTION

$

Pulp Fiction, the second feature film from writer/director Quentin Tarantino, may ultimately go down as the filmmaker's most iconic work. He's made some incredible movies over the years, but Pulp Fiction launched into the zeitgeist in a way most movies could never achieve, providing a shot in the arm to Hollywood in the '90s, popularizing the idea of a blockbuster-style financial success made on a relatively independent scale, and inspiring tons of copycat movies in the process (OK, that last part wasn't necessarily a good thing).

The fact that it came out in 1994 and people are still making fan art of it today speaks volumes, and you can check out this cool piece that blends the stylish Jack Rabbit Slims with the diner from the opening and closing scenes of the movie (as evidenced by Mia and Vincent dancing in the background while Pumpkin and Honey Bunny chat about their robbery strategy in the foreground). Nice work by artist Marie Bergeron here!
