Red Letter Media Disses ROGUE ONE in New Video Review

0
0

Red Letter Media made a name for themselves a few years ago with their epic takedown of George Lucas' Star Wars prequels, and now they're back with a new video review of Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Using the parody persona Mr. Plinkett, the YouTubers diss the movie for its lack of memorable characters, low emotional stakes, and uninspired story.

I don't fully agree with their point about context, because at some point you have to realize this is a part of a larger franchise and not every single story can be self-contained. The problem, of course, is that this movie was hyped as a "standalone" story, and it absolutely is not. You must possess knowledge of what happens in A New Hope for any plot development here to be even remotely satisfying, and I totally agree with RLM's assessment of the murky motivations of the movie's unmemorable characters.

What do you think?

Brazilian Journalist Makes "Too Soon" Joke About Carrie Fisher on News Program

There are certain things you should and shouldn't do on live television. Making jokes at the expense of a recently deceased celebrity when you're not a comedian is likely one of them. Brazilian journalist Jorge Pontual appeared on television and made a very uncouth joke about the death of Carrie Fisher. The joke referred to Chewbacca's reaction to the death of the actress.

Note: You will need to have Closed Captions on for the English dialogue.

Don't get me wrong, I can take a joke, but there's a time and a place and his tone definitely wasn't respectful. You want to do a stand-up comedy open mic and bust that joke out? I'll probably laugh and cringe at the same time...but when you're a journalist on a CNN type news program and just finished talking about her promiscuity in a demeaning way? I'm not sure he made that joke in a light-hearted manner.

Maybe it's a joke Fisher would have appreciated, but the death of a person is typically about the family and those left behind. I understand celebrity deaths are a non-issue to many, but there's no reason to broadcast your distaste for the deceased for the world to see. Here's hoping there's an apology down the road!

It's Bryan Cranston vs. Heisenberg in WHY HIM? Parody Trailer WHY WALT?

It's been a while since I've seen a solid Breaking Bad parody (which makes sense, considering the show has been off the air for a few years now), but the new Bryan Cranston/James Franco movie Why Him? has provided the folks at Funny or Die with the material they needed to create one. By removing Franco and replacing him with meth kingpin Walter White, some fun Cranston vs. Cranston action goes down for our enjoyment. Take a look:

When a loving father (Bryan Cranston) discovers his little girl is dating billionaire drug lord Walter White (Bryan Cranston), he will go to any lengths to stop the wedding bells he sees in his daughter’s future.

Reports Indicate Carrie Fisher Had Completed Her Scenes on STAR WARS Episode VIII Before Passing

Sources are reporting that Carrie Fisher had completed her scenes in Star Wars: Episode VIII before her untimely passing. Variety says that it appears that writers will not have to address the loss of Princess Leia until the next film in the series, in which Fisher was slated to appear in.

I'm not at all surprised that Fisher had already filmed her scenes for Episode VIII as her role was relatively small in The Force Awakens, and the film has been in post-production for awhile. I am curious as to how big her role in the series will be going forward and if writers will now have to alter the story to cope with the loss.

Do you think Fisher's role would be substantial enough that she would need to be recast? It seems pretty difficult to continue the series without a major political figure...maybe they'll go another route? I'm trying to leave spoilers out of this, guys. Help me out.

See What STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE Looks Like Sped Up Every Time Someone Fires a Laser

Here's an interesting spin on Star Wars I've never seen before. A YouTuber going by the handle Lord Aussem has placed the entirety of A New Hope in a single video and sped up the footage every time a laser is fired. So every time a TIE Fighter fires at an X-Wing, Han Solo's blaster goes off, or any other laser flies across the screen, the entire movie increases in speed until it's little more than an imperceptible whirlwind. You might be surprised how quickly the whole thing goes by:

Deadpool Rumored to Make an Appearance in LOGAN

We got some intriguing news regarding the upcoming Wolverine film Logan. According to The Wrap, Ryan Reynolds has shot a scene for the movie as Deadpool! This is just a rumor right now, but an inside source tells them that the Deadpool scene in Logan "will most likely become a post-credit scene."

As awesome as it would be to see Deadpool make an appearance in the movie, this doesn't seem like the kind of film he would fit into. Logan looks like a very serious and dramatic film, which isn't Deadpool's style. It seems like throwing Deadpool into the mix wouldn't work effectively, as he would bring in some hilarious humor that might break the dramatic vibe. But who knows, maybe Logan won't be as completely dramatic as the first trailer made it out to be, or maybe Deadpool will have a dramatic moment that fits the tone.

There's no information on how Deadpool's scene will play out, but if it's actually in the movie then we'll just have to wait and see how exactly the character will be included. In the meantime, how do you think the Merc with a Mouth could be utilized in the film?

Artist Jeff Victor created wonderful Carrie Fisher tribute art that features cartoon-style Princess Leia Evolution. As you can see, it only focuses on the films of the original trilogy. The art came along with the following note:

"Heartbroken. Carrie Fisher, my favorite princess, has become one with the Force. RIP"

There have been so many wonderful tributes made for Fisher since her passing. One of my favorites came from Warwick Davis, which I included below:

Ryan Reynolds and Director James Mangold Debunk Deadpool LOGAN Rumors

Yesterday a reputable website shared a rumor that Deadpool would appear in the upcoming Wolverine film Logan. That rumor just didn't sit right with me, and it didn't make sense. Well, thankfully it's not true. The rumor was debunked by Logan director James Mangold and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds. Here's what Reynolds said when asked about it:

Then this is what Mangold had to say when a fan brought it up with him:

He then went on to vent his frustrations with the outlet that started the rumor:

For those of you who expressed concern about Deadpool appearing in Logan, you can breathe a sigh of relief and not have to worry about it anymore.

Logan hits theaters on March 3, 2017, and it doesn't look like a movie that needs Deadpool to help it along.

Funny Trailer for Comedian Pete Holmes' HBO Comedy Series CRASHING

0
0

HBO could use a funny new comedy series, and it looks like they may have one with Crashing. The series is being produced by Judd Apatow, and it was created by and stars comedian Pete Holmes

The series in inspired by the true-life trials and tribulations that he's gone through in his life as a stand-up comedian. This includes a divorce from his wife after he discovers that she is cheating on him, couch surfing with friends, and reevaluating his life while living in the middle of the New York comedy scene.

All he had after the divorce was his comedy career and his comedian friends to help him through. One of the plot points that the trailer focuses on is how he is forced out of the street corner where he's handing out fliers and him asking for advice on how to take it back.

The series also stars Artie Lange, Lauren Lapkus, and T.J. Miller It looks like a solidly good series that I would enjoy watching. Crashing hits HBO on February 19, 2017.

YouTuber Andrew Rea has a cooking web show called Binging with Babish in which he recreates meals from movies and TV shows, and one of his most recent entries finds him making the ridiculous pasta that Will Ferrell's character Buddy consumes in Jon Favreau's modern holiday classic, Elf. The video goes really well...until the moment of truth finally comes along:

Looks like another Will Ferrell line would double as a perfect reaction to tasting this monstrosity:

alien-covenant-promo-spot-teases-tomorrows-trailer-plus-a-new-photo-of-katherine-waterston

A brief promo spot has been released for Alien: Covenant teasing the first trailer, which is supposed to be released tomorrow! It features an Ovomorph, a.k.a. alien egg, opening with some very unsettling and creepy sounds. I've also included a new photo from Empire featuring director Ridley Scott and Katherine Waterston looking badass as Daniels. Stay tuned for the first trailer coming tomorrow!

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The movie also stars Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), and James Franco.

Alien: Covenant is set to be released on August 4th, 2017.

At long last, the first trailer has been released for Attack on Titan Season 2 and it looks absolutely insane! This is a great early Christmas present for fans of this badass anime series. We've been waiting so long for this and it looks like it'll be well worth the wait!

In the trailer we get to see Eren, Mikasa and Armin brutally taking out one titan after another with skilled maneuvering techniques. There are also a couple of new titans featured and in one of the coolest scenes, there's a huge, furry titan that epically launches a horse toward one of the Survey Corps members. The footage featured in this first trailer is just incredibly action-packed stuff.

Attack On Titan Season 2 is set to debut in April 2017. Now, watch the trailer!

Terrifying and Awesome Red-Band Trailer for ALIEN: COVENANT!

20th Century Fox has released an incredibly awesome and terrifying red-band trailer for Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant! This movie looks freakin' badass and it takes us back to everything we loved about the original two films including the hardcore horror and bloody terror! This is an incredible trailer and I'm so excited to see this film! It looks like Scott is going to give fans an amazing new Alien film that fans of the original will embrace.

Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The movie stars Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir (The Hateful Eight), Jussie Smolett (Empire), Amy Seimetz (Upstream Color), Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Callie Hernandez (Machete Kills), Billy Crudup (Watchmen), and James Franco.

Alien: Covenant is set to open in theaters on May 19, 2017.

Liam Neeson Would Be the Most Badass Santa Claus Ever!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I've got a hilarious video here for you to watch today featuring Liam Neeson auditioning for the role of Santa Claus on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His take on Santa is a lot darker and more intense than most Santas we've seen, but one thing I think we can all agree on is that Neeson would be the most badass Santa Claus ever! At one point he hilariously tries to be a lot more jolly and reverts back into madness. Enjoy!

If You Like Animated Movies With Singing Animals, Here's a Trailer for ROCK DOG

0
0

I was unaware that Rock Dog was even a thing until this trailer popped up for it. It looks like a film my kids will enjoy because they love dogs. These movies aren't my kind of thing, but sometimes they end up being better than expected.

This film stars the voices of Luke Wilson, J.K. Simmons, Lewis Black, and Eddie Izzard. Here's the synopsis:

For the Tibetan Mastiffs living on Snow Mountain, a dog’s life has a simple riff: Guard a peaceful village of wool-making sheep from the thuggish wolf Linnux (Lewis Black) and his rabid pack. To avoid distractions, Mastiff leader Khampa (J.K. Simmons) forbids all music from the mountain. But when Khampa’s son Bodi (Luke Wilson) discovers a radio dropped by a passing airplane, it takes just a few guitar licks for his fate to be sealed: Bodi wants to be a rock ‘n’ roll star. Yet that means defying his father’s wishes, heading to the city, and locating the legendary – and reclusive – musician Angus Scattergood (Eddie Izzard), who needs to write a new song and fast.
If Bodi can put a band together, help Angus with his song, and defeat the wolves’ plot to take Snow Mountain, his life will be in tune. Bodi will become what he’s always dreamed of being: More than a dog … more than a Rock God… he’ll be a ROCK DOG!

Rock Dog will be released in theaters on February 24, 2017.
