Owning This Insanely Tall AT-ACT Will Leave No Doubts About Your STAR WARS Fandom

If you're a fan of Star Wars (aka a citizen of this planet), you probably have at least a few friends who are bigger fans than you. And if you're a collector, you probably know there's a sense of competition when it comes to who has the best selection of memorabilia, toys, figures, posters, etc. If you're looking to finally one-up that friend once and for all in that category, I can't think of a better way to prove your fandom is more intense than by dropping $35,000 on this nearly 10-foot-tall AT-ACT walker that's modeled on the vehicles that appear in this year's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Beast Kingdom is accepting preorders now for an estimated 2017 delivery...and with the sheer size of this thing (the shipping weight is listed at 7308 pounds), I imagine it'll be one hell of a delivery.

The AT-ACT (All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport) has a design height of over 20 meters and is a powerful walker used by the Imperial Forces in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for transporting cargo. Its massive bulk and steady tread provides a very intimidating presence even from a distance. The latest addition to the Master Craft series from Beast Kingdom following the release of the U-wing, the AT-ACT has now been reduced to 1/7 scale to a height of 3 meters. The paintwork faithfully recreates the rusted, battle-worn appearance and sense of history from the movie itself. Uniquely numbered name plates also enhance its collector value for fans. The most powerful transport walker in Star Wars is now ready to take all fans by storm in 1/7 scale.

CAPTAIN MARVEL Script Update; Marvel Will Start Meeting with Potential Directors Soon

There's still a long way to go with the development of Marvel's Captain Marvel, but there are two major milestones that the studio is about to tackle. According to Variety film reporter Justin Kroll, Marvel is going to get the first script treatment in soon, and they will start meeting with directing candidates soon. Kroll says:

"Captain Marvel Update: Studio getting treatment on script soon. Meetings with directing candidates to follow but not till the new year."

Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) are the writers working on the script, and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said the film would give us an origin story for the character, and that the origin story won't be the same as the one we know from the comic books.

As far as directors go, there are three women who have been in the running. They are Niki Caro (Whale Rider), Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World), and Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland). There's no word on if any of these directors are still in the running, but I'm sure there are more on Marvel's list that we don't know about.

Feige was hoping to have a director ready to go by the end of this year, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. When talking about the project previously, he said:

“With Captain Marvel, there’s so much potential in the comics and there have been so many incarnations of her powers and the characters who’ve had that mantle that we’ve been focusing in on exactly how do we tell her origin. How does it fit into the cosmic side of our universe? How does it fit into what we’re doing with the next Avengers movies? So really, that’s what’s been delaying that particular announcement.
“It’s very important to us that all of our heroes do not become silhouette-perfect cutout icons. All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them, all of them have a deep humanity to them. With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we’ve ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she’s introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we’ve ever had. It’s important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie can do that.”

Brie Larson is set to star in the film, and I can't wait to see what she ends up doing with the character. Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8th, 2019.

Ben Affleck Jokes That Matt Damon Is Bitter He Isn't Batman

After decades of friendship, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon still can't help but make jokes at each other's expense in interviews. Comicbook writes that Affleck stated in a recent interview that Damon is "bitter" about not being Batman...

“He’s very bitter, all he gets to do is Jason Bourne. Just keeps doing it again and again. We get it...he’s had his share...I got We Bought a Zoo on a loop in the house."

Ouch! haha. Affleck did add that he was grateful that he has gotten to break into Hollywood and celebrate success with his friend through the entirety of his career. I can only imagine, as how many of us have dreamed about doing something big with our friends and actually had it pan out in the best way possible?

Damon has stated before that he would be interested in joining the superheroes with a role of his own, but concedes that he doesn't know who he would play. His first choice was Daredevil, but considering Charlie Cox is doing such a bang up job with the series so far, I don't see Marvel stripping him of that role anytime soon. Which superhero do you think Damon could play? I think he would make a solid Booster Gold!

Michael Keaton Gives High Praise to Tom Holland and the Marvel Process

After his stint as The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Michael Keaton has nothing but love for all things Marvel. Deadline spoke to the actor who had nothing but positive things to say about the Marvel filmmaking process and likened it to a "well-oiled machine"...

"It is remarkable how they have got that whole thing covered in a really qualitative way...Just how efficient it is, in the best sense, and how it operates on a practical level. How organized they are about what they make and how conscientious they are about what they have. They’ve got really wonderful actors for one thing, but I guess that has always been the case. "

Keaton then went on to say the experience was similar to Batman in the work put in to protect the lore of heroes and villains within their respective universes. Things then switched to young actor and new Spider-Man Tom Holland, and Keaton called him a "great kid."

Keaton also mentioned that he hadn't seen Holland's appearance in Civil War, which I thought a little odd... but I guess when you're a grizzled veteran like him you don't need that much prep to jump into a role. Here's hoping his ignorance of the universe doesn't show in the film! Spiderman: Homecoming hits theaters July 7th!

The Creator of BURN NOTICE Made a Twisted Christmas Short Reminding You Not to Piss Off Young Carolers

I've got a fantastically twisted Christmas short film for you to watch called "There Shall Come Angels." It comes from the creator and writer of Burn Notice Matt Nix and Yo Gabba Gabba writer and director Matt Fackrell

The two wanted to make a short film to send to family and friends as a holiday card. What starts out as an adorable, sweet story quickly takes a very dark turn. It's a good reminder not to piss off any child carolers that come singing at your door during this festive season. Here's a brief synopsis:

On a winter's night, a group of young carolers bring Christmas magic to a suburban neighborhood... very, very hardcore Christmas magic.

The reactions that Nix and Fackrell got from their family and friends from the short inspired them to throw it up online for the world to see and enjoy. Some of the reactions they received included, "You guys are sick Mo-Fo's," and, "You are a sick, sick man." So without further ado, I present to you "There Shall Come Angels."

When I first heard about Trollhunters I wrote it off as a children's show not worth my time. That was a mistake as this new featurette shows me the error in my ways and the power of Guillermo del Toro and an amazing cast!

This new featurette features the likes of del Toro, Kelsey Grammar, Steven Yeun, and Ron Perlman talking about the wonder of this universe they created. After seeing some brief clips in between the actor commentary...I have to agree! I can't wait to watch this series, and I don't even have any kids to use as a cover.

Trollhunters debuts on Netflix December 23rd.

I still haven't made time to see Walt Disney Animation's Moana (I was on vacation when the film debuted), but I've heard nothing but good things about it, and the snatches of the soundtrack that have managed to make it through my spoiler-wall are super catchy, so I have high hopes for it. But even though I haven't seen the movie yet, I can still appreciate artist Tom Whalen's great new print commemorating it. /Film has the details:

The 12 Colors Serigraph is printed by Eclipse Workshop on 24”x36” 320 gsm “Strongstuff” paper. This print is officially licensed by Disney, limited to 375 copies, each hand-numbered, varnish finish and including an authenticity seal.

If you want one for yourself (or perhaps as a holiday gift for the Moana mega-fan in your life), these go on sale at www.cyclopsprintworks.com starting this Friday, December 16th, at 12pm PST. You're welcome.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have released an interesting video on Facebook that shows a mysterious prop for Avengers: Infinity War being made. It's hard to even speculate what this could be, but it looks kind of cosmic. The video came with a little caption that simply said, "Infinity prop..." Even though we have no idea what this is, it's still exciting to see that things are progressing with the production of the film which is going to be shooting in Atlanta. Can any of you speculate as to what this might be?

Amazon Reveals Trailer and Premiere Date for Bryan Cranston and Giovanni Ribisi's SNEAKY PETE

Amazon Studios has a new series coming out that's being executive produced by Bryan Cranston called Sneaky Pete. The series stars Giovanni Ribisi, and the pilot episode premiered last year. It was so well received by audiences that Amazon decided to pick it up for a full season order. I really enjoyed the pilot, and I'm looking forward to seeing the story play out through the next nine episodes.

Ribisi plays a con man named Marius, who "with nowhere else to turn, takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his cellmate, Pete, and then 'reunites with Pete’s estranged family—who have no reason to suspect he’s not their long-lost loved one. When a gangster holds his brother hostage for ransom, Marius must find a way to free him while at the same time struggling to keep his lies from backfiring. Meanwhile, his new 'relatives' are a colorful group who give him a taste of the loving family he’s never had, but have secrets and lies of their own that threaten to drag Marius into a world every bit as dangerous as the one he’s trying to escape."

Sneaky Pete is set to premiere on January 13th. The series also stars Marin Ireland (Side Effects), Margo Martindale (The Americans), Peter Gerety (Prime Suspect), Libe Barer (Parenthood), Shane McRae (Still Alice), and Michael Drayer (Mr. Robot).

Watch Two Wonderful Musical Clips From LA LA LAND with Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling

La La Land is easily one of the best films of the year. You have to put it on your list of must-see movies before the year ends. It's a magical moviegoing experience, and it's one of the best films of the year. You can read my review of it here.

If you still aren't sure about seeing the film, two wonderfully entertaining musical clips have been released for you to enjoy. The first features the song "Lovely Night," the second is called "City of Stars," and Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling sing a duet in each of them. They give you your best look yet at the charm that this movie has. These two sing and dance in a way that is reminiscent of classical Hollywood musicals.

These clips are just a taste of what this movie has to offer. La La Land is currently out in select theaters but will be getting a wide release this weekend on December 16th.

THE BLIND JEDI Is a STAR WARS Samurai Film Inspired by the Films of Akira Kurosawa

Beat Down Boogie has created and released a spectacularly cool Star Wars fan-film called "The Blind Jedi." The short was inspired by Akira Kurosawa and the Zatoichi Blind Swordsman series of films and it brings classic samurai action to the Star Wars universe.

I enjoyed this film, and the fight choreography is solid. I especially enjoyed the old school black and white feel. I don't recall ever seeing a black and white Star Wars fan film before, and it was pretty rad, especially with the whole samurai theme.

I'd love to see a samurai themed Star Wars movie one day. Remember that time there was a rumor that Zack Snyder was developing one? Anyway, I hope you enjoy this!

Nicolas Cage Is a Ruthless Mob Boss in Trailer for the Action Thriller ARSENAL

trailer-for-nicolas-cage-and-john-cusacks-action-thriller-arsenal1

Want to see Nicolas Cage play another crazy character? He plays a ruthless crime lord in a new film called Arsenal, and as you'll see in this first trailer, he completely transformed himself for the role. He's not as recognizable as he usually is. The action thriller also stars John Cusack and Entourage star Adrian Grenier. It's a pretty good cast for such a mediocre looking film. Maybe it will end up being better than this trailer makes it out to be.

Arsenal tells the intertwining stories of the Lindel brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and JP (Grenier), who had only each other to rely on growing up. As adults, JP found success as the owner of a construction company, while Mikey became a small-time mobster, mired in a life of petty crime. When Mikey is kidnapped and held for a ransom by ruthless crime boss Eddie King (Cage), JP turns to the brothers' old pal Sal (Cusack), a plain clothes detective for help. In order to rescue his brother, JP must risk everything and unleash his vengeance against King's relentless army of gangsters.

Arsenal was directed by Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Silent Night, Submerged, Extraction), and it will be released by Lionsgate on January 6th, 2017.

Samuel L. Jackson Has Started His Frozone Voice Work for THE INCREDIBLES 2

Samuel L. Jackson recently posted a photo on Instagram revealing that he has started his voice recording work for director Brad Bird's long awaited Pixar film The Incredibles 2! He reprises the role of Frozone in the sequel. It's hard to believe that it's been over 12 years since the first movie was released in theaters! The photo came with the following caption:

"It's about to go down... First recording session for.... INCREDIBLES 2!!!!"

This is a sequel I've been wanting to see since I saw the first film. I loved The Incredibles, and it's going to be great to see a new adventure in the sequel. There are no story details for the movie, but when talking about the challenge of making a sequel in this world that has been filled with superhero films, Bird said:

"Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction. I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself. A lot of superhero films have been made since Incredibles and it is kind of like an athletic field that’s just kind of dried up dirt now, with a few clumps of grass. And I think what the challenge is how do you step outside of that and say, ‘Hey, there’s another place for our heroes to go.’ So that’s kind of the challenge.”

Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter will reprise their role as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl respectively. It's exciting to see that voice work has started on the film. Now we just have to wait until June 15, 2018 to see it.

It's about to go down... First recording session for.... INCREDIBLES 2!!!!

Disney CEO Thinks ROGUE ONE Isn't Political, But He Couldn't Be More Wrong

Bob Iger is clearly a smart person. Iger is the chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and the one who brought Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm under the company's umbrella, so he obviously knows a thing or two about the film industry. But one of his recent statements about one of Disney's highest-profile films of 2016 is so utterly baffling, I actually laughed out loud when I read the transcript.

Neo-Nazi protestors created a #DumpStarWars hashtag and threatened to boycott Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, largely because it has a diverse cast led by a female protagonist (Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones), and because one of the film's writers, Chris Weitz, drew parallels between the Empire and President-elect Donald Trump. When asked about this little online dust-up at Rogue One's Hollywood premiere this past weekend, Iger told THR:

"Frankly, this is a film that the world should enjoy. It is not a film that is, in any way, a political film. There are no political statements in it, at all."

Iger's statement is false on multiple levels. As this excellent piece in Filmmaker Magazine arguesall movies are political. Political decisions enter into every movie long before the first time the cameras begin to roll, and every film has a point of view that inherently falls somewhere on the political spectrum. On another level, this is a Star Wars movie. "War" is right there in the title, and no one — not even a fictional character — fights a war without politics factoring into the equation in some way. And that doesn't even include the fact that this whole film series is essentially an allegory about the rise and fall of fascism. ('Member stormtroopers? No, not the ones from earlier Star Wars films...the real ones.)

But on a third, even more specific level, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is explicitly about a rebel alliance fighting back against authoritarian forces attempting to suppress them. It doesn't get much more political than that. The movie is stuffed with lines that directly address our current political climate.

Captain Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) is the first person in the movie to utter the line "rebellions are built on hope." He explains to Jyn his threadbare plan to secure a meeting with rebel extremist Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), and when she's unconvinced, his line serves as a way to express how hope is all they have at that moment. The sentiment must land with Jyn in a big way, because she repeats it later in the movie during a key moment when she attempts to persuade the rebel council to green light a mission to steal the Death Star plans.

But before she transitions into a daring leader, Saw asks Jyn if she can stomach the idea of the Empire taking over, if she can handle the idea of Imperial flags flying in the streets above them. Jyn's selfish response: "It's not a problem if you don't look up." At that point, which is relatively early on in the film, she's a reluctant participant in the politics of her galaxy. She has no intellectual skin in the game; she goes along with the rebels solely to find out what's happened to her father, whom she hasn't seen in the fifteen years since he was captured and torn from his family right in front of her eyes. It's not hard to see the connection between that line and anyone just putting their heads down and refusing to engage with the reality of the American political landscape post-election, or those who are fortified in their myopic info bubbles and are just being fed the same bits of information from the same perspective without "looking up" (read: seeking out information beyond the same couple of outlets).

Later, Jyn has a bit of a verbal sparring session with Cassian that reminded me of another very modern phenomenon: seeing newcomers to a cause expressing themselves on social media and watching them get called out by those who have been entrenched in that cause for years. Even though Jyn is the protagonist and we follow her perspective through the story, Cassian points out that she's not the only one who has suffered at the hands of the Empire. Jyn's newness to the fight means she didn't take the time to consider what Cassian and his soldiers may have sacrificed to reach this stage and get the rebellion to where it is. Even though they're on the same side, it takes a bit of conflict before they can ultimately come to an understanding (this is something I've seen happen a lot on liberal Twitter).

Riz Ahmed plays a pilot named Bodhi Rook, a man who formerly worked for the Empire but deserted and delivered an indispensable message from Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) to the rebels. In the movie, his character grapples with the choice he made, saying, "I knew I could do something about it if I was brave enough and listened to what was in my heart." That line could double as a call to action for those still reeling from Trump's surprise win and who may need a nudge toward doing what we can to offset the effects of his presidency. But it's actually Ahmed, not his character, who has the best summation of the film's message. As he told the UK's Evening Standard:

"Rogue One is about waking up to the real political situation of your time and accepting you can't sleepwalk into the future because there won't be one."

By saying Rogue One isn't political, Bob Iger seems to be trying to minimize the controversy and entice as many people as possible to see the movie in theaters. Time will tell how that tactic plays out for the film financially, but his response doesn't have any shred of truth to it. Rogue One is one of the most political films of the year, and thanks to the results of the election, it's now also one of the most timely. Hopefully audiences will see the real-life parallels when the film opens this weekend. After all, rebellions are built on hope.

Red-Band Trailer for Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn's Comedy SNATCHED

It's been a long time since I've Goldie Hawn in a movie. I loved many of the films that she starred in during the '80s and '90s. Overboard and Death Becomes Her are a couple of my favorites, so it's great to see her in a new movie! She stars alongside Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) in an upcoming comedy called Snatched, and today we have both a red-band and a green-band trailer for you to watch.

The story follows a mother and daughter played by Hawn and Schumer as they find themselves trapped in South America after their vacation takes a turn for the worst. If you're a fan of either of these actresses, it looks like a film you might enjoy.

The movie was directed by Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies, The Night Before, 50/50) from a script written by Katie Dippold (The Heat, Ghostbusters). It also stars Joan Cusack (Shameless), Ike Barinholtz (Suicide Squad), Wanda Sykes (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and Christopher Meloni (Man of Steel).

Snatched will be released on May 12, 2017.
