2016 is coming to a close and you know what that means for us movie fans, we're going to start seeing everyone's end of the year list and video compilations. This video compilation comes from video editor Louis Plamondon, a.k.a. Sleepy Skunk. It features over 281 films in just a little over six minutes! Cool Side By Side Video Shows PSYCHO's Impact on Director Brian De Palma

Anyone interested in the films of Brian De Palma likely knows that the director has been heavily influenced by the movies of Alfred Hitchcock during the course of his career. But even knowing that fact, it might surprise some of you how much one Hitchcock film in particular, the 1960 classic Psycho, impacted De Palma. This video essay from Peet Gelderblom puts it into context by showing off shots from Hitchcock's masterpiece on the left side of the screen and juxtaposes them with shots from tons of films from De Palma's oeuvre on the right. It's pretty amazing how spot-on many of these ended up being.

Two new adrenaline-fueled TV spots have been released for Milla Jovovich’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and they bring some very high energy to get fans pumped up for the film. Each spot offers some exciting new footage from the film as Alice returns to the hive to put an end to the nightmare that she’s been living all these years. This final film in the franchise looks like it’s going to give fans a spectacular conclusion of death.

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, humanity is on its last legs after Alice is betrayed by Wesker in Washington D.C. As the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead hordes, Alice must return to where the nightmare began – Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse. In a race against time Alice will join forces with old friends, and an unlikely ally, in an action packed battle with undead hordes and new mutant monsters. Between losing her superhuman abilities and Umbrella’s impending attack, this will be Alice’s most difficult adventure as she fights to save humanity, which is on the brink of oblivion.

The movie also stars Ali Larter, Iain Glen, Shawn Roberts, Ruby Rose, Eoin Macken, William Levy, Fraser James, and Rola. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set to be released on January 27th, 2017.

We've Discovered a Planet That Rains Ruby and Sapphire

A newly discovered planet has the ability to rain ruby and sapphire from the heavens. Gizmodo writes that HAT-P-7b produces clouds made of the exact same mineral that produces the precious gems on Earth.

HAT-P-7b, or "Hat P" as I like to call it, is about 16 times larger than Earth and entirely uninhabitable. Besides the fact that gems are raining from the sky at any given moment, it's super close to a star that allows for temperatures around 2860 Kelvin, a.k.a. you'd evaporate instantly. That said, Hat P is locked in a way that only one side of the planet is exposed to the star...so maybe we can hang on the slightly cooler other end and wear hard hats?

Isn't space amazing? I can't wait until we discover a planet with an ocean of silver or something!

Be A "Rebel" With This Jyn Erso Rebel Alliance Jacket

If Joey's review is any indication, you're gonna want to stock up on Rogue One gear before it skyrockets in price! Why not snag this Hot Topic Jyn Erso "Rebel Alliance" jacket to kick off your love for the galaxy's newest protagonist?

The jacket comes with a zipper detachable hood that also doubles as a scarf if you're feeling like letting your hair down...or you don't want to be mistaken for a Jawa. My favorite part about the piece is that the lining appears to be a blueprint of the Death Star. That's pretty damn cool!

See some pictures below, and if you like what you see, pick it up for yourself or a loved one by clicking here. It's currently 25% off on their website, so act fast!

Does STAR WARS Even Need Movie Trailers? Adam Driver Doesn't Think So!

0

Star Wars is such a huge brand and it's so popular, do you think that Lucasfilm and Disney really need to release trailers for it to be successful? Adam Driver, the man who plays Kylo Ren, doesn't seem to think so.

While talking about his upcoming film project, Martin Scorsese’s Silence, with CinemaBlend he was asked about the Star Wars: Episode VIII trailer and if he'd be ok with the film being released in theaters without one. To that he replied:

"I think that’d be bold. I’d love it, yeah! Then no one would know anything. The less people know, I feel like, the more exciting… the more of an event it is."

I actually do kind of like the idea of going into a big Star Wars film like this knowing absolutely nothing. That would just be so thrilling! It'll never happen, though, and as fan it's so damn cool and fun to watch these trailers, break them down, and speculate what it could all mean.

I do kind of like what Netflix is doing with their original properties. They are releasing trailers for stuff a week before they air. It would be interesting to see how that would work with big tentpole films instead of getting trailers four to six months in advance.

Again, I seriously doubt there will be any big changes like this in the industry. Hollywood needs to market their films as much as possible to ensure people go see their movies regardless of how popular the franchise is.

Even though this is something that will never be implemented by a major studio, what would you think about doing away with trailers so that when you see a movie like Star Wars it would be a completely fresh experience?

WESTWORLD Supercut: Every Mysterious Question Asked During The Show's First Season

Burger Fiction has put together a supercut of every mysterious question that was asked during the first season of HBO's Westworld, and considering the video is just about seven minutes long, that should tell you that there were a lot of freakin' questions asked in this show. It's a series that largely hinged on reveals in its first season, which was a method I considered detrimental to its overall story because it waited too damn long to make its connections known to the audience. I'm not saying we should have been force fed every twist at our own pace, but there's a difference between plot twists and withholding vital information that heavily informs character, and I felt they were closer to the latter in season one. What did you think?

Warning: video contains spoilers.

Chainsaw Chat: ASH VS EVIL DEAD Recap: 2x10 — Second Coming!

David Ayer Is Set to Reteam With Margot Robbie for GOTHAM CITY SIRENS

Earlier this year we learned that Margot Robbie was developing a female DC villains movie with Warner Bros. in which she would reprise her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn. Well, the project just took a huge step forward as Suicide Squad director David Ayer has stepped in to helm the film which is currently going by the title Gotham City Sirens

Gotham City Sirens is the title of a DC Comics series that centers around Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. I imagine those three characters will be involved with whatever story Ayer and Robbie are setting out to tell. I'm a huge fan of all three of those characters, and it would be incredibly awesome to see them come together on the big screen.

The current script for the film is being written Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is also writing the script for the upcoming Tomb Raider remake as well as the script for Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes 3.

I'm excited that Ayer ended up taking on the directing gig! I loved what he did with Suicide Squad. Regardless of its problems, it was an insanely fun movie, and if he can bring that kind of fun to Gotham City Sirens with a solid story then hopefully they'll deliver something that the fans will enjoy.

What do you all think about Ayer and Robbie teaming up again for this new DC movie?

HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN Director Will Helm a Feature Film Adaptation of His Short ONE LAST DIVE

The director behind the insane action-thriller Hobo With a Shotgun, Jason Eisner, has teamed up with producer Wes Ball to adapt one of his short films as a feature film. The movie will be inspired by his short called "One Last Dive," which revolved around on a diver investigating an underwater crime scene.

There's no word on what the story for the new film will tell, but the short, which I embedded below, will give you a good idea of where they are going with it. The script is being written by Lewaa Nasserdeen, who works on The Goldbergs.

Eisner has made a ton of great shorts over the course of his career, and they all tend to have a fun and crazy dark twistedness to them, which I've enjoyed. One of my favorites is "Treevenge," which you can watch here if you want. This new thriller that he's working on will be his first full-length film since Hobo With a Shotgun.

Warner Bros. plans on making a Man of Steel sequel one day. At one point it was looking like Mad Max director George Miller would take on the challenge, but at this point, that'sprobably not going to happen. However, if you want to see a fan-made vision of what that movie might look like, We Got This Covered cut together a fun trailer for all of you to enjoy. Check it out!

ROGUE ONE's Ben Mendelsohn Will Play the Sheriff of Nottingham in ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS

0

Rogue One star Ben Mendelsohn has just landed a new villainous role in Lionsgate's upcoming film Robin Hood: Origins. The actor will play the Sheriff of Nottingham, and it's really easy to imagine him in the role. He'll easily slip right into it and bring the character to life perfectly. This guy is a great actor and gives an incredible performance in everything that he does.

The story will center on Robin Hood, who is described as "a war-hardened crusader who joins a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English monarchy."

Mendelsohn joins the previously cast Taron Egerton as Robin Hood and Jamie Foxx as Little John. The film will also star Eve Hewson as Maid Marian and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey) will portray Will Scarlet, Robin Hood’s half-brother.

Robin Hood: Origins will be directed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror) from a script written by Joby Harold (Awake). It's also being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. I just hope the change the title before the movie comes out. Robin Hood: Origins sounds like a terrible TV series.

Honest Trailer for STAR WARS: EPISODE V - THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story being released in theaters this week, Screen Junkies released a funny Honest Trailer that focuses on Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. This is the favorite Star Wars film among most fans — it's so good that it's the sequel that all other sequels are judged by. They admit in the video that it's hard to point out any faults in the film so they just point out some amusing observations. It's appropriate that Screen Junkies would release an Honest Trailer for Empire Strikes Back now because, as I said in my review, Rogue One is on the same level of greatness.

New Clip From JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Animated Film Features a Game of Demonic Poker

DC All Access has released a new clip from DC Animation's upcoming film Justice League Dark. It features John Constantine playing a demonic game of poker. As you'll see, playing poker with a group of demons can be interesting. There's some cheating, talk of David Copperfield, and a pun on betting the house.

In the film, "Batman reunites an intrepid team of occult heroes like John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Etrigan the Demon, Swamp Thing, and Black Orchid to deal with supernatural threats that the Justice League wouldn't often handle."

The studio is also developing a live-action film based on Justice League Dark that is being directed by Doug Liman. This animated film seems like it will be a good way of being introduced to these characters if you're already not familiar with them.

The animated film stars the voices of Matt Ryan as John Constantine, Jason O'Mara as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Camilla Luddington as Zatanna, Nicholas Turturro as Boston Brand / Deadman, Ray Chase as Jason Blood / Etrigan the Demon, Jerry O'Connell as Clark Kent / Superman, Rosario Dawson as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, Jeremy Davies as Ritchie Simpson, Enrico Colantoni as Felix Faust, Alfred Molina as Destiny, Roger Cross as Dr. Alec Holland / Swamp Thing, John Stewart / Green Lantern, and Colleen Villard as Black Orchid. It will be released on digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD sometime in early 2017.

The clip starts at the 3:37 mark.

Donnie Yen Says He Designed a New Martial Arts Style for STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE

It was really cool to get to know every new character that introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. They all played an important role in the film, and as I said in my review, each one of them had their own scene-stealing moments. Donnie Yen's character, Chirrut Îmwe, was easily one of the most badass characters in the movie who stayed calm under pressure, believed so hard in the Force, and knew how to kick ass.

While making the press rounds for the film, a little girl named Miriam, who is associated with BBC, asked Yen about his fighting style in the film, and he revealed that he designed a new and unique style of martial arts for his role in the film, which is pretty damn awesome!

"I've done a lot of martial arts, Miriam. I was nine years old when I started martial arts, and I studied many different styles of martial arts. Every movie, I would create a unique martial arts for each movie. For example, in Rogue One, my character Chirrut, I designed a bit of martial arts specifically for Star Wars."

It'd be cool to get some additional insight into this style of martial arts that he created some day, but he didn't get into it in this interview. I just love the fact that he created a new martial arts style for the Star Wars universe.

It was a blast watching Yen fight the Empire in Rogue One — he definitely does his fair share of ass whooping. The actor went on to talk about the difficulties of wearing the contact lenses that made him look blind in the film because they really blinded him.

"It was not comfortable! I had to take them off every two hours and rest in between for twenty minutes. With the contact lenses, it was very blurry, I couldn't see clearly, so it was very distracting."

There's no doubt that Star Wars fans are going to love Yen's character in the film and the role that he plays in the story.

Heart-Pounding Full Trailer for Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK - "Survival Is Victory"

0
0

The first full trailer has been released for Christopher Nolan's World War II film Dunkirk, and it looks like a spectacular film that tells a very intense story of survival and living to fight another day. This looks like it will be another movie masterpiece from Nolan. It looks absolutely thrilling, and I can't wait to see this story come to life on the big screen.

The movie was inspired by Operation Dynamo, which was a 1940 mission that freed over 340,000 British and Allied troops who were trapped and surrounded by the Nazis in the French city of Dunkirk. It was one of the largest organized retreats in modern military history. That would have been one hell of a scary situation to be in.

The film has an incredible cast that includes Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, James D'Arcy, and Harry Styles

This trailer only gives us a taste of what's in store, but Warner Bros. will be screening seven minutes of footage from the film in front of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story at select 70mm IMAX screenings.

Dunkirk is set to open in theaters on July 21, 2017.
