Scarlett Johansson Opens Up About The Major in GHOST IN THE SHELL

I'm pretty stoked about the upcoming live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. I think the movie looks stunning, and I like everything I've heard about how the story was developed as it's a reimagining of the franchise as a whole. It looks to me like director Rupert Sanders has done a great job, but we'll just have to wait and see when the full movie is released. We all know trailers can be deceiving.

In a recent interview with MTVScarlett Johansson opened up about the character she plays in the film, know as The Major, and offers some insight on playing a cyborg. The Major is a real person whose body was replaced with cybernetic parts, but the actual brain of the person it represents is still alive. The actress explained:

“She’s not living a human existence. She’s not living a fully robotic existence, either.”

She said that the film is a "coming-of-age story" for The Major. When we first meet the character, her job is the only thing that matters, and that job is taking down cybercriminals and hackers. Johansson explained:

“She never sleeps. She never really shuts off. She has vague memories of who she was before she became The Major and she has a connection to who she was through her relationship with [Juliette Binoche’s character] Ouelet and the people who work at Hanka — they remind her of what her story was — but the experiences that they’re living around her are totally unfamiliar to her.”

The actress also explained that the closer The Major gets to the film's villain, a cyberterrorist named Kuz played by Michael Pitt, she begins to have glitches and flashbacks. She can't really tell if these are actual memories she remembers or if they were implanted in her. She explained, “As she gets closer to the enemy, she strangely gets closer to herself.”

There is one character in the story who The Major has a very close relationship with, and that is Batou (Pilou Asbæk). Batou is part of the Section 9 task force and is always by the side of The Major. When talking about the relationship between these two characters Johansson said:

“I think Batou is the character that Major feels the closest human connection with. He’s someone who is very much himself. He’s been through the tragedy and loss of war. He’s lived a very human experience. She’s curious about that. Through his experiences, she feels like she’s able to absorb some of them and understand how the past informs the person that you are.”

She then added that the two have a playful relationship and said that it could be romantic "in some other universe." It'll be fun to see how they play with this relationship in the story for this new film. I just really want this adaptation to be great! I'll be so disappointed if it ends up telling a mediocre story. With all of the awesome source material they have to go on, I don't see how they can screw it up. But this is Hollywood, so we'll see what happens.

Ghost in the Shell hits theaters March 31, 2017.

If You Want a Good Laugh, Watch the New Trailer for FIFTY SHADES DARKER

I personally think this whole Fifty Shades thing is absolutely absurd. But, for some reason, there is a huge audience out there for this kind of ridiculousness. Fifty Shades Darker looks like it will be just as bad as Fifty Shades of Grey, but the fans of the franchise will eat it up like candy. The trailer plays out like a comedy! Just listen to the hilariously bad dialogue! If anything, the trailer will give you a good laugh.

When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

Fifty Shades Darker was directed by James Foley (Fear, House of Cards) and stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. The movie will be released on February 10, 2017.

Video Essay Details How All Stories Across All Media Have the Same Components

If you've ever had even a passing interest in storytelling, you've heard of Joseph Campbell. He's the man who came up with the monomyth, aka The Hero's Journey. It's a breakdown of the similarities between every major story and how they all essentially share the same components. Style and specifics change in each story, sure, but for something to be recognizable to us as a story in the first place, it basically follows the same structure.

Community and Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon has broken down Campbell's storytelling theory into a more simplified version that he uses when writing his screenplays, but he's convinced it works for every story across all types of media — movies, TV shows, songs, books...everything. Editor Will Schoder has helpfully broken down Harmon's breakdown even further into a nice video essay that's easy to digest. Check it out, and maybe you'll even be inspired to use this structure to create your own stories.

A New X-MEN Film Will Reportedly Start Shooting in May 2017

Not long ago it was reported that Fox was looking to do a light reboot of the X-Men film franchise without director Bryan Singer. There weren't a lot of details on what that would actually entail, but it was later rumored that the next film in the franchise would focus on the Dark Phoenix saga, which I hope is true!

Sophie Turner is expected to reprise her role as Jean Grey, and I imagine some of the other new young actors introduced in X-Men: Apocalypse will also join her. Elements of the Dark Phoenix saga storyline were used in X-Men: The Last Stand, but this next film is said to completely focus on it.

Whether this is what Fox is doing or not, they have a plan in place because they are about to start production on the film in Montreal. The news comes from Le Journal de Montreal, who says that a production office opened up yesterday at the MELS Studios complex, which is where X-Men: Days Of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse both shot.

The report also says that set construction is expected to start up in January and that the production is taking over Studios 2 and 3 of the MELS complex. This all comes from the president of MELS, Michel Trudel, who then reveals that shooting for the film will begin in May and that it will go on for several months.

It'll be interesting to see what the next big X-Men movie announcement will be. It's obviously coming soon.

THE FLASH Just Couldn't Help But Make a HARRY POTTER Reference in Last Night's Episode

From the time it was announced that Tom Felton would be joining the cast of The Flash it seemed inevitable. The writers showed restraint up until last night, when the show made a not so vague Harry Potter reference in regards to Felton's character Julian...

So a couple weeks ago we learned that Julian was The Alchemist and got his power from a mysterious stone. This week we learned that Julian was involved in an expedition to obtain this very stone...and what was it called?! The Philosopher's Stone...

For those that don't immediately get it, The Philosopher's Stone is the UK name for what we know as The Sorcerer's Stone in the Harry Potter franchise. Now, the Philosopher's Stone myth has been around far longer than Harry Potter, but how convenient that the show's version of the stone happens to be in the possession of the ONE actor who was involved in the Harry Potter films?! C'MON!

On a side note, wasn't it great to find out that Julian was not actively aware that he was The Alchemist?! I really like his character, and while I know he probably won't be along much longer, I do hope the staff maybe makes an attempt at keeping Felton on as a series regular? I think it would be cool for him to eventually take the role of H.R., but then I love Tom Cavanaugh so I'm conflicted. Anyway, what did you think of last night's cheeky reference?

Inspiring ROGUE ONE Ad for #CreateCourage Campaign Features a Star Wars Fan in the Philippines

We have a Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ad from the Philippines for the #CreateCourage campaign of Globe that I feel is a must-watch. If you are a Star Wars fan, this story will really inspire you. The video is centered on Alex, who is a huge Star Wars fan and wears a stormtrooper helmet to school everyday. Wish I could talk about it more, but that would completely spoil it. As a big brother, I really connected with the story. As an added bonus you can see what schools look like in the Philippines, and yes, they all wear school uniforms.

Finally, "Hoy Pinoy!" to all my fellow Filipinos.

Watch: Short Film Made Using Only the Lyrics to "Bohemian Rhapsody"

The words to "Bohemian Rhapsody" have been turned into a film script...but not in the way you would imagine! I figured Corridor would go the route of taking the song's meaning — a guy committing murder-suicide and having his soul battled for by heaven and hell — but instead they made an action film! It's something you have to see to believe, check it out below!

Here's the song as well because I know you want to hear it now!

It's been nine months since we first saw our first image of Disney XD reboot of DuckTales and a couple since we last got a promo poster. Today, we have a new promo image that's 76 megapixels and a stupidly short teaser. I like the art style, and Matt Youngberg — who is a Ben 10 alumnus — as executive producer gives me a lot of faith in the project. Announced today, DuckTales will premier on Disney XD in the summer of 2017 and have 21 half-hour episodes and two one hour specials. My guess is those specials will be for Halloween and Christmas. I can't wait to see more!

Last week Marvel released the first of three animated short films for Funko in which we saw Spider-Man and Iron Man take on Loki. The second short has not been released for your viewing enjoyment! It's called "Bait N Switch," and it centers on Rocket Raccoon breaking into The Collector's museum to rescue Baby Groot.

It's a wonderfully fun short that fans are sure to enjoy. The third and final short we'll see is called "Chimichangas," and it revolves around Deadpool battling Venom, so that's one that you won't want to miss either!

Walton Goggins Will Play the Villain in Alicia Vikander's TOMB RAIDER Film

Walton Goggins is going to join MGM and GK Films' upcoming feature film reboot of Tomb Raider! I've been a fan of the actor since he starred in The Shield. Since then he's been involved with a ton of great projects like Lincoln, Justified, The Hateful Eight, and most recently, Vice Principals

According to the Variety, he will be playing the villain in the film. There's no word on who that villain will be, but Goggins has what it take to bring any kind of villainous character to life.

The actor joins Alicia Vikander in the film, who is taking on the role of Lara Croft. I think she's going to be freakin' awesome in the movie, and I'm excited to see her portrayal of the adventurous character.

The new Tomb Raider movie was inspired by the most recent released video games that focus on the origin of the character. There's also a possibility that she may be on the hunt for her missing father. It's being directed by Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave), and MGM will release it in theaters on March 16, 2018.

Updated: A new teaser was just released featuring Zack Efron so I added it for you to watch below.

Dwayne Johnson has just released a brief teaser for his upcoming Baywatch movie. The teaser features Johnson rising from the ocean after having saved someone, and it announces that a full trailer for the film is coming tomorrow.

I got to see a good amount of footage from Baywatch at CinemaCon earlier this year, and this movie looks freakin' hilarious. I hope that you get to see some of that crazy comedy in the trailer that's released tomorrow because you don't see any of it in this teaser. You can read the description of the footage I saw here

The movie also stars Priyanka Chopra, Zac Efron, Charlotte McKinney, Alexandra Daddario, and Hannibal Buress, with Ilfenesh Hadera as Johnson’s love interest. There will also be appearances by David Hasselhoff and Pamala Anderson

Baywatch will hit theaters on May 19, 2017.

Guy Creates Voice Activated Wands With Shock Packs for Real Life Wizard Duels!

One of my dreams just became a reality! Sufficiently Advanced created a voice activated wand that can be used for real life wizard duels! When a person correctly pronounces one of four attack spells (taken from the Harry Potter series), their wand will light up and send a signal to the opponents pack that shocks the opponent! Players can also use the defensive spell "Protego" to give themselves a temporary shield where players can't attack them.

This is genius! If Sufficiently Advanced hasn't patented this technology yet, they need to! I would love to have wizard duels with other people, and while I wouldn't like to be shocked, it does up the ante a bit! Check out how it was made and see it in action below!

Watch Felicity Jones Assure People She's Not Daisy Ridley

There are two things Felicity Jones is clearing up...

  1. She is not Daisy Ridley.
  2. Jyn Erso is not Rey's mom.

The second one disappointed me a bit as I thought I was really onto something, but I have no idea how anyone makes the mistake of confusing her with Daisy Ridley! I guess if you generalize their characteristics and features it makes a bit more sense, but no way I see those two side by side and not know which one is which!
