Trailer for MAD MAX Knockoff MAD SHELIA Ups the Grindhouse Elements

$

There have been many spoof films made for popular/successful films. For 300 there was Meet the Spartans and Scream had Scary Movie. Chinese film Mad Shelia is not a spoof, it's a full-on knockoff of Mad Max, copying the diesel punk esthetic of the cars, costumes, and even its poster. Mad Shelia is not a complete carbon copy and has a female protagonist, but what she eventually wears pushes Shelia into the grindhouse formula of "babes and boobs."

Do you think this could be a new trend?

Zack Snyder Shares JUSTICE LEAGUE Photos on Vero

We have a batch of fairly sparse behind the scenes photos and a doodle for Justice League that the Zack Snyder shared on a new social network Vero. Maybe it's just me, but all those heroes in that doodle look miserable. I wonder if Snyder drew this. Does Snyder not like happy heroes? [Have you not seen any of his movies? —ed.]

A couple photos were labeled "At Bruce Wayne house" and "More BW house" on Vero, so it looks like Bruce is sticking with his modern bachelor pad.

These three photos seem more related to Aquaman and one of them features Jason Mamoa.

Finally, I downloaded Vero. It seems like an okay app/network, but it's just one more thing I've gotta check out to not miss out on Justice League photos. Also, extracting photos is going to be a pain.

Video: Beautiful WESTWORLD Violin Cover by Anastasia Soina

HBO's Westworld is my favorite new show this season. Not in a long while have I been so fully invested in a show's mystery. Westworld draws from all corners of science fiction and takes no shortcuts to unfolding events. What brings me into the show is the wonderful score by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones) in its opening credits. It's a haunting medley that feels organized, ethereal, and dreadful. Musician Anastasia Soina has created an all violin cover that expands on the feeling of intelligence and gaunt emotion.

Heavy New Trailer for Denzel Washington’s FENCES

$

A second trailer has been released for Denzel Washington and Viola Davis’ upcoming drama Fences, and it’s pretty damn powerful. This is a compelling story that is based on August Wilson’s Broadway play that Washington and Davis also starred in. Just judging by what I see in this trailer, it looks like both actors give Oscar-worthy performances, and the subject matter of the film and characters is sure to bring on the tears.

A former professional baseball player (Denzel Washington) creates tension in his family when he denies his teenage son's dream of playing college football and comes home with the baby he had through an affair.

Fences arrives in theaters on December 25, Christmas Day, and as much as I want to see it, it definitely doesn’t look like a film you’ll want to take the family to on Christmas day. Looks like a pretty heavy emotional drama.

The World of DOCTOR STRANGE Recreated in 8-Bit Cinema

CineFix has released a new episode of 8-Bit Cinema, and it recreates Marvel’s latest film, Doctor Strange, in nostalgic 8-Bit glory. It looks like a game I would have had a blast playing on an original NES gaming system. It even awesomely recreates the mind-bending visual effects in pixelated madness. I keep seeing these 8-Bit Cinema videos, and I think these gems should actually start being developed for real!

Anne Rice Is Developing a VAMPIRE CHRONICLES TV Series

Anne Rice is looking to develop her Vampire Chronicles book franchise into a TV series. Universal and Imagine Entertainment recently had the rights to the books series, and they planned on doing a series of films based on them. Those rights have lapsed, though, and they are back in the hands of Rice. She’s incredibly excited about this and is looking forward to developing it as a series. She recently talked about her plans for her TV series in a Facebook post, saying:

“The theatrical rights to the Vampire Chronicles are once again in my hands, free and clear! I could not be more excited about this!
“A television series of the highest quality is now my dream for Lestat, Louis, Armand, Marius and the entire tribe. In this the new Golden Age of television, such a series is THE way to let the entire story of the vampires unfold.
“My son Christopher Rice and I will be developing a pilot script and a detailed outline for an open ended series, faithfully presenting Lestat’s story as it is told in the books, complete with the many situations that readers expect to see. We will likely begin with “The Vampire Lestat” and move on from there.
“When we sit down finally to talk to producers, we will have a fully realized vision of this project with Christopher as the executive producer at the helm. I will also be an executive producer all the way.
“Again, I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to be able to announce this. ---- As many of you know, Universal Studios and Imagine Entertainment had optioned the series to develop motion pictures from it, and though we had the pleasure of working with many fine people in connection with this plan, it did not work out. It is, more than ever, abundantly clear that television is where the vampires belong.
“Over the years you all have told me how much you want to see a “Game of Thrones” style faithful rendering of this material, and how much you want for the series to remain in my control. Well, I have heard you. I have always heard you. What you want is what I want.
“You, the readers, made these books a success before any movie was ever made based on them, and I will never forget that fact.
“Christopher and I will be posting many questions on the page for your input in the days to come.
“I am filled with optimism this morning about the future for my beloved Brat Prince. What better way to start a tour for the new book!”

With Rice guiding the way, there’s a solid chance that fans will get the epic adaption of her stories that they’ve always wanted to see. I think her stories will work perfectly as a TV series! I hope it lands at a place like HBO or Netflix where it will get the kind of creative support that it needs.

Bad Lip Reading has released another funny video for The Empire Strikes Back. It’s a musical number sung by Yoda called “Seagulls! I don't know about you, but I already have my ticket for opening night of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. They went on sale last night. I know you're all already sold on the film, and you may want to keep certain elements of the film a surprise, but this latest TV spot teases the return of an old Star Wars villain, and it's kinda cool to see. I won't say who it is right here, but below the trailer I'll talk about it.

We also have a new poster for the film displaying the tagline, "A Rebellion is Build on Hope." It's also being reported that the movie will be two hours and thirteen minutes long. That news comes from Lucasfilm creative executive Pablo Hidalgo on Twitter.

So, if you watched it, you may have noticed at the 5-second mark that shot of Grand Moff Tarkin looking out of a window at the construction of the Death Star. A year ago it was rumored that the character, who was originally played by Peter Cushing, was going to be digitally recreated for the film. The shot we see is only a behind-the-head shot, but I think it's pretty obvious who it is. It makes complete sense to me that Tarkin would be in this movie.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, with Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers. The story is by John Knoll and Gary Whitta, and the screenplay is by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in theaters December 16th.

First Clip For ASSASSIN'S CREED Introduces Us to the Animus and There's a New TV Spot

I've got high hopes for Michael Fassbender's Assassin's Creed. The film has got a good team of talented people working on it, and I've been impressed with what I've seen in the trailers. 20th Century Fox has now released the first clip from the film, which is titled, "Enter the Animus," and it centers on Fassbender’s character Callum getting into the Animus for the first time. I also included a new TV spot for the movie for you to check out!

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Assassin's Creed was directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth), and it also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams. The film opens in theaters on December 21, 2016.

Let's Help This IRON GIANT LEGO Playset Become a Reality

ets-help-this-iron-giant-lego-playset-become-a-reality

This awesome LEGO Iron Giant figure playset was submitted to LEGO Ideas by LEGO fan designer Brett Cuviello. As you’ll see in the photos, he did a hell of a job recreating The Iron Giant in LEGO form.

The Iron Giant was released in 1999 by Warner Bros. and it came from director Brad Bird. This is my favorite animated film of all time. It just has such a wonderful story, and the traditional hand-drawn animation is beautiful crafted. The creator of the LEGO set says he believes “a LEGO product based in this film would not just be popular with consumers, but rather be an enormous success,” which is something I agree with. He goes on to talk about what his LEGO creation includes:

Within this project, there would be 5 main characters: The Iron Giant with changeable eyes and weaponry to depict his evil state from the movie, Hogarth Hughes with the alien bolt he finds at the end of the film, Annie Hughes and a coffee pot, Kent Mansley and a fedora, and Dean McCoppin with a coffee cup. The entire build consists of approximately 2,023 pieces, including the Giant, minifigures, and accessories. The Giant's head rotates and tilts, and his arms, legs, wrists, hips, and ankles are all articulated to both accommodate his size and weight, and allow him to replicate classic poses from the movie.

To be officially reviewed by LEGO, The Iron Giant LEGO set needs 10,000 supporters. Make sure to add your support by clicking here!

Ivan Reitman Confirms Many Other GHOSTBUSTERS Movies in Development

$

I didn't care for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot at all, and it's not because it was an all-female cast. I think all of those women are pretty talented individuals, I just thought the story and script sucked and that it was way too slapstick silly comedy, which also didn't really work.

The movie didn't do as well as the studio hoped it would do at the box office, and that makes the possibility of a sequel less likely to happen. Even if we don't see a sequel to this Ghostbusters movie, it doesn't mean we won't see another Ghostbusters film! Before the movie came out we learned that Sony Pictures was looking to develop a whole Ghostbusters universe and there were four other films being planned.

In a recent interview with Mr. Wavvy podcast, producer Ivan Reitman confirmed that there are many other Ghostbusters films still in development. The studio obviously haven't given up on the franchise. Reitman says:

"There’s going to be many other Ghostbusters movies, they’re just in development right now."

He didn't go into any details on what those films might be, but one of them could be a sequel to the last film, we've heard that there could be one involving Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt, and there could be a team-up movie. Oh yeah! There's also an animated Ghostbusters movie in development!

Whatever movies they currently have cooking for the Ghostbusters franchise, I hope that they do a much better job with them than Feig did with the last film.

Wes Anderson and Adrien Brody Teamed Up for a Fantastic Christmas H&M Short Film - COME TOGETHER

Those of you who have been reading GeekTyrant for awhile know how much of a fan I am of director Wes Anderson. I completely dig his filmmaking style and sense of humor. Some of his films include Rushmore, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Grand Budapest Hotel.

Anderson recently teamed up again with actor Adrien Brody, who starred in The Darjeeling Limited, to direct a short film Christmas advertisement for H&M. It's called "Come Together," and Brody plays a train conductor named Ralph who works on a train called the Winter Express and has some unfortunate news for his passengers who are traveling on Christmas Day. They will be 11 hours late for their destination, but conductor Ralph is determined to make sure the passengers have a great Christmas.

It looks like Anderson had a lot of fun making this short, and it's packed full of all those things that we love about his movies! His signature filmmaking and storytelling style is all over this thing and I love it.

Is This the Big Easter Egg Waiting to Be Discovered in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

I recently received an email from a GT reader named Matt, pointing out what he thinks is a big undiscovered Easter egg in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Could this be the big Easter egg teased by Gunn? I have no idea, but it looks like that Matt could be on to something. The email came along with the following image:

is-this-the-big-easter-egg-waiting-to-be-discovered-in-guardians-of-the-galaxy

The image features a screenshot of the hologram body scan of Peter Quill/Star-Lord from the film next to an image of the Marvel character known as Legacy, a.k.a. Genis-Vell, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. As you can see there’s a fascinating resemblance between the two images. I know that this doesn’t really follow the storyline laid out in the comic books, but Marvel Studios and Gunn could be switching some things up for the future storyline for Star-Lord, which could be really interesting.

Will Peter Quill find himself in possession of the extraterrestrial golden bracelets known as the Nega-Bands? Will he eventually slam his wrists together with them, causing his atoms to trade places with an alien Kree type character? In the comic books, Rick Jones is the character that gets the Nega-Bands and slams his wrists together with them. This causes his atoms to trade places with those of Kree Captain Mar-Vel. Will Marvel change up this storyline to fit in with Peter Quill in the MCU?

This could be nothing, but who knows, maybe this could actually be something! If it is, will Gunn even confirm it? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. What do you all think?! Is this a stretch of the imagination or do you think Matt is on to something here?

Original Anime Writer for POKEMON Wanted the Series to End With It All Being Ash's Imagination

$

0

If Takeshi Shudo had his way, the Pokemon anime would've ended with Ash as a delusional old man! Comicbook reports that Shudo, who wrote the first three seasons of the series and three movies, planned to have Ash reflecting on his childhood as an old man and wondering whether Pokemon really exist or not. The series would then close out with Ash wandering into the woods searching for Pokemon, presumably to die.

WHAT THE HELL, SHUDO?!

I suppose I shouldn't speak ill of the dead, as Shudo passed away last year, but that's quite a bonkers and ridiculously dark direction for a series that has been pretty happy all the way through. It would also directly conflict with every Pokemon game in existence or perhaps be an incredibly symbolic statement on mental illness...I can't decide which.

Obviously, Nintendo had other plans as Shudo was taken away from the series not too long after pitching a "Pokemon Revolution" movie that would reach its climax in Ash and Pikachu having a showdown to decide the fate of Pokemon and human kind.

Good to know the series won't be straying from its lighthearted nature anytime soon!

Creepy Rear Window Stickers Will Freak Out Aggressive High Beam Users

When it comes to driving speed, I'm in the middle of that pack. I'm often passing people from the left lane, and I move to the right when I'm not passing someone. But on rare occasion someone will hit me with their high beams because I'm not going 20mph over the speed limit like they are and not changing lanes fast enough. I'm sure we've all had the annoyance of these speed demons. Instead of the highly dangerous "brake check" or just letting your foot off the gas, you could do something far more creepy, like these reflective ghost faced decals.

First warning, I haven't not been able to find another source for these stickers other than a Chinese website. That said, they cost around $3-$18 (plus shipping). I would love to see the look on someone's face reacting to these ghost faces looking back at them. The decals are somewhat visible in daylight so you might also creep people out in parking lots too.

New POWER RANGERS Photo Gives Us a Full Body Shot of Rita Repulsa

new-power-rangers-photo-shows-off-rite-repulsa

We've got a new photo from the upcoming Power Rangers movie to share with you giving us our best look yet at Elizabeth Banks as the film’s villain, Rita Repulsa. This is a full body shot of the character with her magical staff that gives her the power to enlarge other beings.

Out of everything that I've seen from the film so far, I like her costume the best. Maybe they'll do a Marvel crossover in which Loki and Rita team up. It looks like they'd make a great team.

I'm curious to see how this movie turns out, but I'm not really that excited for it. Did you happen to see those ridiculous Zord and Megazord designs? If not, check them out here.

The Power Rangers cast includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bryan Cranston as Zordon, and Bill Hader as the voice of Alpha 5.

Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

The movie is being directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac), and it comes out on March 24, 2017.

Guy Proposes Mid Mannequin Challenge, Blue Ranger Remains Dedicated to Staying Still

A man is getting married, and the Blue Ranger from Power Rangers stands tall in this hilarious Mannequin Challenge circulating the web! I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more of these in the coming weeks as the trend reaches its climax, but this is the first really geeky one I've seen! Mind you, there's nothing incredibly geeky, save this guy cosplaying the Blue Ranger who's immensely dedicated to the challenge!

As you'll notice, by about the 40-second mark literally everyone has broken the challenge while the guy is having a hell of a time getting the ring out of his pocket...save the Blue Ranger center frame. Futures are being made, and this guy is only concerned with how long he can keep his arms at an awkward angle.

He breaks after she says yes, but imagine what would've happened if she had said no! Would he still be there today posing? We can only imagine. See the amazing posture and a proposal below.
