PACIFIC RIM 2 Title Confirmed as Filming Begins

If you only look at domestic grosses, the fact that we're getting a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 robots vs. kaiju movie Pacific Rim is nothing short of astonishing. The film only pulled in $101 million in the United States, and with a reported budget of $190 million, that's not great. But overseas, it outperformed most predictions, pulling in an additional $309 million. So a sequel was greenlit, and now, three years later, production is finally underway.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega, who's been cast as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost in the sequel, revealed that filming started today and finally confirmed the long-rumored title of the new movie:

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here's to a great adventure ahead ✌🏿

A photo posted by BOYEGA (@jboyega_) on

So Pacific Rim: Maelstrom it is.

We know the movie stars Boyega and newcomer Cailee Spaeny, and though del Toro (who's producing while Steven S. DeKnight directs) has said that "a lot" of the first film's cast will return, we know Charlie Hunnam won't be coming back and I feel like chances are pretty small Elba will show up in anything beyond a quick cameo if at all. The film arrives in theaters on February 23, 2018.

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS Gets New Photos; Trailer Coming Tomorrow

It's been a long time since I've really looked forward to a Luc Besson movie (I wasn't crazy about his Scarlett Johansson mind-bender Lucy), but Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets has changed that. I'm legitimately excited to see what he does with this sci-fi property, partly because it's been a passion project of his for years, and partly because it's Besson getting back to his genre roots and making something that looks bigger and crazier than anything he's made before. Check out a few new photos below.

Valerian pic 1.jpg
Valerian pic 2.jpg

Meanwhile, EW has a piece about Rihanna's appearance in the film, saying that she inhabits several personas in her twenty minutes of screen time. You can read the whole thing here, and check out a new gif and a pic of the star below:

A teaser package for the movie had a very impressive reaction at Comic-Con, and a new trailer is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so we'll be back when that happens to take a deeper look at what Besson has in store for us.

Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. Valerian has more in mind than a professional relationship with his partner- blatantly chasing after her with propositions of romance. But his extensive history with women, and her traditional values, drive Laureline to continuously rebuff him.
Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time, uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.

Tom Holland on How Spider-Man's Youth Will Be Utilized in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING's Fight Sequences

We've learned a few things from a recent interview with actor Tom Holland did with THR. During the interview, he talked about how the character's youth will be utilized in the fight sequences for the film. Before we get to that, though, the actor was asked if Batman or Spider-Man would win in a fight against each other. Of course, he chose Spider-Man! He explained:

"Spider-Man, and I'm not saying that now because I am Spider-Man. It's been Spider-Man since I was a little kid.
"My best friend Harrison, his favorite is Batman, and for years we've had an argument on who would win in a fight, Spider-Man or Batman. I win every argument now. I'm like You know how I know? Because I am Spider-Man, so...shut your face.'"

It's no surprise that he would choose Spidey, but as much as I love Spider-Man, I'd have to go with Batman. Sorry, but it's Batman and Spider-Man just doesn't stand a chance.

Holland went on to talk about his version of Spider-Man and how he's different from the other versions of the character that we've seen on the big screen because of his youth. He explained how his Spider-Man is really just a kid and how that aspect of the character will be used in the fight sequences. He said:

"You've seen the billionaire, the scientist, the soldier. Now it's time to see the kid. And every decision we make on set is based off how would a kid react in this situation, so every fight scene we have is designed in a way that's almost child-friendly, so he never actually punches anyone. It's all done kind of by accident. I think the biggest difference is his youth and innocence."

This is one of the things that is going to make this next Spider-Man film so fun. We got a taste of they way Spider-Man will fight in Captain America: Civil War, and we'll get to see a whole film dedicated to it in the near future. It will be fun to see how the battles between him and Michael Keaton's The Vulture turns out.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts, and it hits theaters on July 7, 2017.

The first promo spot has been released for The CW's big DC crossover series that includes Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. In it, Barry Allen introduces Supergirl to the rest of the heroes.

Also, thanks to EW, we have a collection of photos from the crossover in which the heroes will be taking on an alien race known as the Domination. The four-part series event was inspired by the DC Comics event Invasion! There aren't any other plot details beyond that at this point, but I'm sure it will be fun to watch it play out!

Below you'll find the promo, a few photos from the actual episode teasing the crossover event, and a few photos from a photoshoot that was done for EW. It's pretty fun to see all of these characters together, especially seeing Supergirl in the mix.

Charlie Cox Says He Wants Bullseye in DAREDEVIL Season 3 and Reveals How He Blinded Himself

Marvel and Netflix are pushing forward with a third season of Daredevil, and that's sure to come with the introduction of more new characters. Someone that actor Charlie Cox would love to add to the mix is Bullseye. Of course, his co-stars don't share that same enthusiasm. In an interview with ScreenGeek, he explained:

“It’s no secret, I’ve said it before and I get in trouble every time I say it, I’d like to see Bullseye make an appearance at some point. I think it’s a really interesting opportunity. Deborah Ann Woll obviously does not want Bullseye to show up for obvious reasons. Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra, doesn’t want Bullseye to show up either.”

For those of you who are familiar with the comics then you know why Woll and Yung don't want to bring in Bullseye... because he ends up killing them. Of course, Marvel has been known to change things up for the sake of the MCU, so if they did introduce Bullseye, they could take his story arc into another direction. The character could definitely add some hardcore emotional weight to the series.

Cox goes on to talk about how he purposely blinded himself so that he could portray the character properly.

“I don’t know if you know this [or not] but on the first season, I was trying to figure out how to do it. I went to this specialist, an opticianist – and I had these lenses made that were identical to my eyes but they completely blinded me. You put them in and I couldn’t see a thing and I thought great, I’ll do that and I don’t have to do any acting. The problem with that was that after every take, someone from the crew had to come and get me and lead me away and kind of sit me down. After the second day, I was like this is going to get really old, really quick.”

It doesn't sound like it would be very fun or easy to be wearing those lenses when trying to play this character, especially in those action sequences! I seriously doubt that he wore them when they shot those scenes, though.

The next time we'll see Daredevil in action is in The Defenders, which is being released in 2017. Would you like to see Bullseye make his grand entrance in the MCU in season three?

LINCOLN FIST AXE WARRIOR Fan Trailer Is the Abraham Lincoln Kung Fu Film We've Always Wanted

If you want to see an awesomely fun mashup, you've got to watch this fan trailer for "Lincoln Fist Axe Warrior"! It perfectly combines Steven Spielberg's Lincoln with Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. The result is an old-school looking Kung Fu film with Abraham Lincoln. The video comes from CineFix, who had this to say:

If you thought Spielberg's Lincoln was a bit of a snooze-fest you might be interested to see what happens when you combine it with the other Lincoln movie released that year, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

The result is a surprisingly convincing trailer for a Kung Fu movie, in which old Honest Abe must do battle against the "bad guys" in the only way he knows how: by kicking some serious butt!

Enjoy!

That Last STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE Trailer May Contain a Huge Plot Element Involving Jyn and Kyber Crystals

Yesterday a Japanese trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit the internet, and it blew our socks off! That thing was loaded with some incredible new footage and some of it was very revealing and offered us some new insight into the plot of the film and where it might lead.

that-last-star-wars-rogue-one-trailer-may-contain-a-huge-plot-element-involving-jyn-and-kyber-crystals2

There was one plot element that was teased that could end up being a huge deal for the film. Early on in the trailer, we shown a moment between a young Jyn Erso and a person that we assume is her mother. Her mother gives her a necklace with a crystal on it and tells her to "trust the Force." It's a very brief moment, but whatever it is is so important to Jyn that she holds on to that crystal as she grows up.

that-last-star-wars-rogue-one-trailer-may-contain-a-huge-plot-element-involving-jyn-and-kyber-crystals3

May fans are speculating that this is a Kyber crystal, which as many of you already know is the crystal that powers lightsabers. It's been reported in the past that the planet of Jedha plays a main part in the story. When talking about it director Gareth Edwards said:

"It got embodied in this place we called Jedha. It’s a place where people who believe in the Force would go on a pilgrimage. It was essentially taken over by the Empire. It’s an occupied territory… for reasons we probably can’t reveal. There’s something very important in Jedha that serves both the Jedi and the Empire."

It's been confirmed that the reason the planet is so important is because Kyber crystals are a resource of that planet. Now we'll get into the cool theories about how Jyn's Kyber crystal could fit into the story.

Lightsabers aren't the only thing powered by Kyber crystals, the Death Star is also powered by them. Jyn's father is the guy responsible for the creation of the Death Star, so there are a few links here that could very well lead to a crazy climax and reveal.

One of the best theories that I've seen involving all of these links comes from THR, who offers the following fan theory:

"To follow this line of speculation through to a natural conclusion, what is the likelihood that Jyn's mission to rescue her father from the Empire instead results in her father once again finding the crystal necessary to make the Death Star operational — a crystal hidden away from him for years by his wife, who would rather trust in the natural order of things ("Trust the Force") than accept a despotic regime that is willing to construct a weapon that can literally destroy the planet of anyone that stands against it?
"It's a given that Rogue One ends in a stalemate in the conflict between the Rebellion and the Empire — the very first Star Wars film begins with the former with stolen Death Star plans, while the latter has a fully operational Death Star. Could that stalemate be the result of a heist that, while successful, accidentally delivers the one thing the Empire needed into its hands?"

I thought that was some pretty interesting speculation. We don't know if the story will actually play out that way, it could go in a completely different direction, but this theory does seem plausible. What do you all think? How do you think the crystal plays into the story? Share your theories below!

GAME OF THRONES Season 7 Is Reportedly Gearing Up for the Biggest Battle Yet!

According to a recent report from WatchersOnTheWall, Game of Thrones season seven is gearing up to give us the biggest battle in the series' history. Yes, it's said to be even bigger than Battle of the Bastards last season!

According to the report, preparations are underway for a fight between two or more factions that will be made up of 500 extras and 100 horses. That's slightly more than what was in Battle of the Bastards, which used 500 extras and 70 horses. So there's a bit more horsepower this time around.

Some photos from the set of the series also recently surfaced at the Spanish newspaper El Periódico Extremadura and clearly show a large scene being set up involving horses and smoke machines.

All of the extras being used will go through military training, and they will be needed on set for shooting at least a month. That’s a pretty big commitment, but holy crap! Wouldn't it be so cool to be a part of this battle as an extra!?

Game of Thrones isn't shy about going big and giving fans an epic battle, and this one is clearly being set up to be something huge. It appears the moody head of House Tarly will be involved in the battle. The report also confirms the following:

"We have been able to confirm that in the course of next season’s packed story, characters will travel to Highgarden and Casterly Rock both. The Tyrell home was a popular suspect for the reported castle in the background of the soon-to-be-filmed ambush setpiece."

This ambush will also feature James Faulkner, who is returning as Lord Randyll Tarly. He posted the following photo of himself from the set.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out!

Kevin Smith Recreated Famous Supergirl Scene with Silent Bob for SUPERGIRL Cast and Crew Gift

Kevin Smith recently wrapped production of his Supergirl season two episode, "Supergirl Lives." As a gift for the cast and crew, the filmmaker had a t-shirt made up for everyone that recreated the iconic Crisis on Infinite Earths cover art that featured Superman holding Supergirl, only in this version Silent Bob has amusingly stepped in the place of Superman. Smith said on Facebook:

"This is the wrap gift t-shirt I gave to all the @supergirlcw cast and crew member who made my episode. Now having worked on both #Supergirl and @cwtheflash, I can equate the experience to making both a sfx extravaganza AND an indie flick at the same time: you have the talent and tools of a big budget movie but the time of a low budget flick.
"Most of the folks who work on these shows COME from feature films and do work you'd normally see in feature films - but do it in only 8 days. So it feels natural to celebrate the end of our journey the same way we wrap movies: with a free, commemorative t-shirt! Drawn by the always amazing @jeffquigley, we crib the most iconic Supergirl image in comics history: Superman holding his fallen cousin on the cover of #crisisoninfiniteearths. But standing in for the #manofsteel is the Man of Shhhh himself, #silentbob.
"Hopefully, this image isn't a prognosticator of my episode somehow killing the show I love. If there's any bad about #supergirllives, it's entirely mine: because the cast and crew made a fantastic episode. I know this not only because I was there watching when they did it, but also because I've already peeped some of the scenes our editor Barbara cut together. This thank you t-shirt is the least I can do for the folks who made me look like I might be good at my job. #KevinSmith #supergirlseason2 #jeffquigley #vancouver"

Here's the original comic cover that the art on Smith's t-shirt gift is based on.

SPIDER-MAN Suit Upgrades Teased in CIVIL WAR Hologram Concept Art

Some new concept art has surfaced from Captain America: Civil War, and it teases a message from Tony Stark to Peter Parker regarding upgrades to his Spider-Man suit. This would have been a really cool Easter egg in the post-credits scene of Civil War, but it ultimately wasn't used. One of the pieces of concept art seen above included the following message from Stark:

"Swing by the tower, got some new upgrades you should see."

Marvel was obviously thinking ahead when they considered this, but they ultimately decided to not use it. Maybe because they didn't want to tease something that they didn't have solid plans for yet.

It makes me wonder what kind of upgrades he could be talking about? I'm pretty confident that we'll eventually see Spider-Man jump into the Iron-Spider suit. That will not happen in Spider-Man: Homecoming, though. I guess something could be teased in the post-credits scene. It's also possible that we could see it in one of the upcoming two Avengers sequels. We'll just have to be patient and wait and see what Marvel is planning!

You can check out a whole collection of Spider-Man signal concept designs below that were considered. Thanks to CB for the heads up!

Some more awesome new footage has surfaced thanks to a new international trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and a TV spot. Some of that footage includes some cool moments featuring X-Wings and TIE Fighters. The battle scenes between the Rebels and Empire that we see here seem to take place around the planet Scarif, which is home to the Empire’s Death Star construction project.

As a fan who is more excited for this movie than The Force Awakens, I love seeing whatever new footage I can get! It's nothing that ruins the story, just stuff that gets me even more pumped to see this all play out on the big screen. It is going to be glorious!

Rogue One hits theaters on December 16th! We're almost there!

Jessica Chastain Will Star in PAINKILLER JANE Movie

$

Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada's Painkiller Jane graphic novel series is getting a feature film adaptation, and it's locked down a stellar actress for its leading lady. Deadline reports that Jessica Chastain will play the title character.

Chastain, no stranger to playing tough female roles, will play Jane Vasko, a New York City street cop who gets recruited by the FBI to infiltrate a major NYC drug and human trafficking ring. In a near death experience, Jane develops exceptional regenerative abilities that give her a unique indestructible advantage. With nothing to live for and no way to die, Painkiller Jane becomes an unstoppable force of nature seeking revenge to those who destroyed her life as she leaves a path of death and destruction in her wake.

The character has never gotten her own feature film, though she has appeared in a made-for-TV movie in 2005 and on a TV show with Terminator 3 star Kristanna Loken in the lead role.

This sounds like the pulpiest role of Chastain's career so far. She's flirted with comic book movies before, famously passing on the part in Iron Man 3 that eventually went to Rebecca Hall (bullet = dodged), and she appeared in the ridiculous The Huntsman: Winter's War earlier this year, but this project sounds as if she's ready to go truly over-the-top in a leading role. Have you all read the comic? What do you think about Chastain playing Jane? As for me, I'll be spending the rest of the day with this song in my head:

When Cersei Lannister sent Mace Tyrell to the Iron Bank of Braavos on Game of Thrones, it sadly meant we were robbed of some more moments from the bumbling, hapless head of House Tyrell. Actor Roger Ashton-Griffiths always brings some much-needed levity to the show with his idiotic antics, and this deleted scene from season 6 is no different. Here, we see Lady Olenna (Diana Rigg) take her son to task as she tries to scheme her way out of a bad situation. Man, how great is Diana Rigg? You've gotta love her attitude on this show.
