Watch: THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS as Told By Emoji

$

0

The official name of The Nightmare Before Christmas is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, but in an effort to make sure that people give the actual director his proper credit, I think I'm going to start referring to it as Henry Selick's Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. That's a bit of a mouthful, but it's worth it to chip away at the widely-held misconception that Burton directed this stop-motion holiday classic.

In any case, Disney has released a new video in which they reimagine what the film would look like if it were told using emoji, and it's a fun little way to celebrate the movie on this fine Halloween day. (Check out emoji adaptations of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Finding Dory, and Zootopia.) Have a safe and fun night, everyone!

Bonus: be sure to click here to read Selick's official word about whether his film is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie.

STRANGER THINGS Minute by Minute Newscast Focuses on the Disappearance of Barb and Eggo Waffles

Barb from Stranger Things is back in the news in a retro 1980s newscast. This is an official video release from Netflix, and it's called "Minute by Minute with Brenda Wood" from the fictional TV station WIYZ. In it, Wood breaks the news of Barb's mysterious disappearance. Of course, we all know what happened to poor Barb, and she won't be coming back for season two.

You think you know the 80’s. But then an archival newsreel from 5 WIYZ Hawkins, Indiana is uncovered and you question everything. Like why is Brenda Wood’s hair so totally amazing? Or, whatever happened to that girl Barbara Holland? Just how many Eggos did Eleven eat? The world needs to know!

In the report, Barb’s friends describe her as “loyal to a fault,” and “the kind of girl who notices if you’re wearing a new bra.” There's a little bit of humor thrown in when Woods describes what Barb was last seen wearing, which included “a pink blouse, green pants, blue puffer jacket, and an oversized pair of absolutely fantastic glasses.”

We also get a look at some security footage of a “vagrant juvenile” who is actually Eleven stealing some Eggo Waffles.

Hot Toys is celebrating the wonderful work of Tim Burton with a creepy and fun limited edition statue based on one of Burton's drawings from the 1980s. This is part of an international touring exhibition called "The World of Tim Burton," which hits Hong Kong on November 5th. Here's what Hot Toys had to say:

Hot Toys is honored to be invited to create a high-quality collectible art piece from Burton’s 1980s drawing known as “Untitled (Creature Series)”, one of the signature artworks in the exhibition.

“The World of Tim Burton: An Art Piece for Collectors” features a self-manipulating puppet creature which, adorned with Burton’s characteristic stripe motif and composed of a simple color palette of black and white with a hint of red, is representative of one of the central themes of his work—that is, to be emotionally felt. And the talented team at Hot Toys has faithfully brought Burton’s artistic vision to life, transforming the 2D graphic work into a stunning 3D sculpture and collectible art piece that fans and collectors should not miss out.

As a prelude to the opening of the Hong Kong stop of “The World of Tim Burton” exhibition, 300 sets of this limited edition collectible art piece will be exclusively available for pre-order on FringeBacker for fans around the world. Each collectible is marked with a unique serial number and Tim Burton’s printed autograph.

I imagine anyone who buys this will have to keep a close eye on it. I fear it may come to life and murder them.

Cable and Hope Summers Battle the Purifiers in Awesome X-MEN Fan Film CABLE: CHRONICLES OF HOPE

I've got a pretty badass X-Men fan film for you to check out today called "Cable: Chronicles of Hope." The short film features a time-traveling Cable and Hope Summers as they battle a group of villains known as The Purifiers. Of course, they end up getting a little help from other X-Men characters such as Bishop and Nightcrawler, who has a cool fight sequence.

The short film was inspired by the 2010 "Second Coming" crossover event comic series, and it was written, directed, and produced by George and Harry Kirby, co-directed by Nathan Stickley, and produced by K&K Productions.

This is a really fun film and the visual effects are actually done pretty well. Cable is set to make his feature film debut in Deadpool 2, but this awesome fan film should provide some exciting entertainment.

DEADPOOL Director Tim Miller to Help Develop SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Movie

Deadpool director Tim Miller recently dropped out of the sequel because of some creative differences with Ryan Reynolds and the studio. If the rumored reasons behind the departure are true, it's probably for the best.

Miller has already jumped on board a film project called Influx, which is an adaptation of the David Suarez novel, and it's expected to end up being a film trilogy. According to Variety, he's also joined the production team of Sony Pictures live-action CG hybrid adaptation of the classic Sega video game Sonic the Hedgehog

He will be a producer on the film and help out Blur Studio’s Jeff Fowler, who is attached to direct and oversee the development of the project. They will also work with Neal H. Moritz, who is the producer of the Fast and Furious franchise. Miller had this to say in a statement:

“Jeff is an incredible director with strong story instincts. The world of Sonic presents the perfect opportunity for Jeff to leverage his experience in animation to bring new dimension to this iconic character.”

The script for the movie was previously being written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the game focuses on the world’s fastest hedgehog, whose peaceful life is often interrupted by his arch nemesis, Doctor Eggman.

Sonic the Hedgehog has had a couple animated series over the years, and he made his first big screen appearance in Disney's Wreck-It-Ralph. I think there's potential for a fun movie, but I just hope it doesn't end up being like the Alvin and the Chipmunks or Smurfs. With Miller and Fowler working on the project maybe it will avoid that fate.

Below you'll find a short film that was developed by Miller and Fowler called "Gopher Broke."

Details on Luke Skywalker's Appearance and Rey's Training in STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

Obviously, if you don't want anything spoiled for Star Wars: Episode VIII you probably want to skip this post. However, if you're interested in learning some details on Luke Skywalker's appearance in the new film and a few bit of information regarding Rey's training with Luke, then by all means... read on.

The following information originated at Making Star Wars, which has had a very strong track record of getting solid news from the Star Wars films. Here's how they describe the costume:

Luke Skywalker wears a darker costume compared to what we saw in The Force Awakens. This costume is more evocative of his Return of the Jedi clothes in cut and color. His undertunic reminds me of Count Dooku but his very dark grey cape drops over the top of his shoulders and chest like a shawl. This leaves his right arm free but half of his chest covered by the cape. It’s almost similar to the asymmetrical cut of Captain Phasma’s cape, but more like a shawl in the way it cover his chest.
The cool part I kept for this write-up is that Luke’s black glove from Return of the Jedi is back on his hand. Luke Skywalker’s tunic is cut the same as Dooku’s but the “skirt” part of the tunic appears to be little closer to the knees than Dooku’s was. The shawl aspect of the cape hangs to the left so he can still fight with his right hand as it drapes to the left.

They go on to offer a piece of art that they had drawn up from a scene in which Luke is training Rey in this outfit. They reveal that Luke doesn't have a lightsaber and that he is instead holding a "thin spear, thin walking stick or a piece of junk." They aren't sure, but it's definitely not a lightsaber. In fact, it seems like there's a chance that Luke won't even use a lightsaber in the film. The costume they have described doesn't have a belt or anything to hold a lightsaber. The site says there has been "contention as to if Luke ever actually uses one in this film."

The report explains that Luke is more like "Yoda on Dagobah in terms of style," and the costume he is wearing is filthy and just gets dirtier as the story plays out. And like Luke was with Yoda, Rey is rumored to be very frustrated with Luke’s teachings while she's being trained.

We've never really seen Luke teach anyone before, so seeing him teach Rey how to harness the power of the Force and should be cool and interesting.

There's been a good amount of rumors reported on Star Wars: Episode VIII, and you can read through all of that stuff here if you're interested.

Logan director James Mangold continues to tease Wolverine fans with images from the final chapter of Logan's feature film journey. Today we have a new photo of Hugh Jackman as an old, worn-down Wolverine dressed to kill. We also have two awesome pieces of concept art below for you to check out. The concept art was drawn up by artist Gabriel Hardman. The first shows a close up of Logan ready to battle, and the second features the character showing up at the Liberty Motel where something is obviously going down.

Logan takes place in the year 2024...Old Man Logan is in full effect. Logan looks bad, and drinks a lot. For work, he drives a 2024 Chrysler 300 limo that looks modified in the front to look more futuristic. He’s sick, his powers are fading, and he heals much more slowly — and sometimes not at all.

Logan will be teaming up with a young mutant girl who is said to be X-23 and Charles Xavier, who in his old age will be struggling with maintaining his mental faculties and powers throughout the story. The movie will be released in theaters on March 3, 2017. For more information on the film, click here.

New Kids On The Block and Fly Danny Tanner Appear in FULLER HOUSE Season 2 Trailer

Judging by their phenomenal statistics of viewership, chances are a bulk of you watched Fuller House in its first season. If you're like me, you'll keep your wife/significant other happy and watch season two while subtly noting that maybe the original show wasn't as good as you remembered as well.

If it's any solace to you kids that grew up in the late '80s, looks like New Kids On The Block are in this season! It also looks like DJ Tanner's love troubles won't be coming to an end any time soon.

Oh, and Bob Saget dons a "Fly Danny Tanner" look in a two-thirds life crisis. See it all in the trailer below.

"Wild Thing" Charlie Sheen Recaps World Series, Comments On Bill Murray

Charlie Sheen thinks the World Series will go 7 games, and perhaps controversially, doesn't take a side on who he thinks is going to win it all. The actor wrote a lengthy letter published by THR in which he summarized the World Series so far, including his take on Bill Murray's now-infamous rendition of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," and more.

Starting first with Bill Murray and his...questionable decision to do the thing as Daffy Duck, Sheen said this...

I should also mention Bill Murray's "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." As a student of the game, Bill's intro sounded like he was talking about Harry Caray, but then he goes into Daffy Duck. That doesn't sit at the doorstop of baseball's unearthed mythology. It's was... different. That's all I'm saying.

Sheen talked about all the games and then finished out game five with this:

The Cubs gambled and brought in Aroldis Chapman in the seventh, who broke his pitch count, but still threw 100 mph and 101 mph consistently. I knew it was going to be coming back to Cleveland then. Even before Chapman happened, I could just hear the commentators talking about the first World Series win in Wrigley since Oct. 8, 1945. There is no way that a team that wins 103 games and clinches the post season in August loses a hat-trick at home having waited what must feel like 2,000 years.

While it must sting for Cleveland friends to have their unofficial mascot not beat his chest and say "Cleveland all the way," I think Sheen is just being honest. (Sheen played Cleveland pitcher Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn in 1989's Major League.) Having watched the series, and baseball in general, it doesn't take much for a game to go south for a winning team. Not to put a jinx or anything, but a Cleveland team did already win a championship this year after being down three games in a series...can they close it out before the Cubs catch up?

Sylvester Stallone Returning For Sequel to ESCAPE PLAN

$

Escape Plan, the 2013 prison break movie that co-starred '80s action icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, ended up being a bit of a disappointment for fans who grew up wondering what it'd be like if those two big screen badasses shared the screen together. It was pulpy, but not quite up to snuff on a story level. Now there's a sequel brewing, but it appears that only one of the duo will be returning for it.

Deadline reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films is working on a sequel, and Stallone will reprise his role as prison architect Ray Breslin — only this time, it will be in a supporting capacity. Miles Chapman, who wrote the first film, is coming back to write the sequel, which will gear up for production in Ohio and China (where the film performed extremely well) early next year with a planned start date of March 15th. No word on a possible appearance from Schwarzenegger, so if anything, I think fans should maybe hope for a quick cameo and that's it.

The idea of seeing two big screen titans sharing the screen was appealing, but I didn't feel like Escape Plan lived up to its potential. What do you think about a sequel, especially one without Schwarzenegger involved? I just hope they don't make Stallone a mentor to some bland nobody actor like Jai Courtney in the new one.

Video Explores The History of THE THING and How Awesome The 2011 Version Could Have Been

Did you know there is an alternate cut of the 2011 prequel to The Thing? This cut takes out the CGI and replaces them with practical effects that are more in line with the original film. That version has never been released, but I think we can all agree that it needs to be if it's still watchable! Good Bad Flicks talks about that and much more relating to the cult classic in the video below.

New Japanese DEATH NOTE Movie Opens at Number One in Japan

The new Japanese Death Note film, Death Note: Light Up The New World, opened number one in the nation's box office. ANN reports the film made about $4.37 million in its opening weekend and sold 306,385 tickets. The film is really close to beating the record for the 8th highest grossing box office film in Japan, which is a currently held by Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

$4.3 million would be film suicide in the American market, but since Japan is just slightly larger than the state of California, you can see how that number is more impressive.

In case you were wondering, this film has nothing to do with the Netflix adaptation of Death Note, which is scheduled for a 2017 release. The Japanese film is a continuation of the already popular live action films, which are supposedly better quality than most live action anime adaptations. See the trailer below.

Eleven is Set to Return For STRANGER THINGS Season 2

Ever since season 2 of Stranger Things was announced, the people involved with the series haven't really said much about Eleven or if she will be involved. When previously talking about the series, co-creator Ross Duffer had this to say:

"I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade. That’s something we batted around from the very beginning. But for us, there’s still more story here, there’s still things that are unresolved. We don’t know about Eleven. We leave that up in the air.”

I always assumed Eleven would be back for Season 2 because she's such a great character and the fans would be disappointed if she didn't come back for the next chapter of the story. TVLine is now reporting that she will be back and Millie Bobby Brown will reprise the role.

The report goes on to say that they don't know how many of Season 2’s nine episodes will include Eleven, but they do say that "all signs point to her once again being a series regular." I'm just excited to see the whole gang back together again and to see where this next supernatural adventure takes them.

Season 2 will pick up a year after the events of the first season, which will be in the fall of 1984 and it will dive into the “bigger mythology” behind young Will Byers’ disappearance. For more news on Stranger Things and the upcoming second season, click here

When I first saw this this on Reddit, I thought it was a joke. Little did I know Collateral features an appropriate and entirely accurate self-defense situation for someone with a gun! I still can't believe a film where Jamie Foxx drives Tom Cruise in a cab actually has legitimate military tactics.

Christopher Nolan's DUNKIRK Could Open Early in 35mm and 70mm

Here's some good news for those of us who have been eagerly anticipating Christopher Nolan's next movie. According to IndieRevolver, Nolan's latest film, Dunkirk, will open two days early in 35mm and 70mm formats.

Their source tells them that Warner Bros. will "reward theaters who have the ability to project film (and fans who enjoy seeing it that way) by releasing the film two days early on July 19, 2017." While this hasn't been officially confirmed by the studio yet, it makes sense because there's precedent for it: Nolan did the same thing with Interstellar back in 2014. He's long been an advocate of film (actual celluloid) instead of digital, both when it comes to shooting a movie and projecting it for audiences.

Dunkirk, which Nolan directs and wrote himself, is inspired by Operation Dynamo, a 1940 mission that freed over 300,000 Allied troops who were trapped by the Nazis in the French city of Dunkirk.

The movie is being billed as an "epic action thriller" and it stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, James D'Arcy, and Harry Styles. As we await official confirmation, let's bask in the idea of seeing this new movie in 70mm:
