SKYRIM - DRAGONBORN DLC Promises To Let You Ride Dragons

0
0

It's been almost a year now since Skyrim first came out. It only feels like yesterday when I screamed like a little girl as UPS dropped the game off at my house on launch day. There are only few games that will ever do that to me but I assume that many others feel the same way. If they don't, well, at least they know how I get down.

As a PS3 owner, I have watched these last 12 months, both Xbox and PC users get to dive into the added fiction of the Skyrim world. This has bummed me out because The Elder Scrolls series is the one series that I truly care too much about, and to be shut out from those extra experiences is a shame. I will probably never get to play this either, but here's to hoping.

As for the trailer, the Dragonborn DLC looks to be interesting. You are going up against a character who was the first Dragonborn (I think) and he is some mean creature that eats a lot of dragon souls. I don't know how that makes him evil (because your character does the same thing), so I hope it's addressed in the story.

From what I can tell, this DLC will let you ride dragons. Yeah, like fly them around.

Also, is that Morrowind architecture in the background during the opening?

George Lucas Talks About His Post STAR WARS Plans

0
0

George Lucas is leaving Star Wars behind him, and he's ready to move on to bigger and better things. In a recent interview with EW he talks about what those plans are, which include making personal films that we will never see.

Lucas will be a creative consultant on the future Star Wars movies, but he's leaving it in the hands of Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. When asked if he'd help pick out a director to take on the franchise he said,

I’ve turned it over to a wonderful producer, Kathy Kennedy, and I’ve known her for years. She’s more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did.

It couldn't have been easy to let Star Wars and Lucasfilm go, but the guy has a plan and he's ready to move on to the next chapter of his life,

It’s very sad. It’s 40 years of work and it’s been my life, but I’m ready to move on to bigger and better things. Mostly it will be philanthropy but I’m also going to make my own little personal films.

As you may have heard, he's donating a lot of that 4 billion dollars he made off the Lucasfilm sale to help education. He went on to talk about his last movie Red Tails, which told the story of of the World War II Tuskegee Airmen. The film was a labor of love for him, and he's working on other film projects that we'll most likely never see.

I’m going to go further out than that. I barely got Red Tails into the theaters. The ones I’m working on now will never get into the theaters.

We've heard him say this before, but I really do hope that one day the films Lucas makes will see the light of day. What really matters is that he'll be making movies just because he loves it. As much as some of us have complained about Lucas ruining the Star Wars movies over the years, are you happy for him that he's cashed out and leaving it behind to pursue the stuff he's always wanted to do?

HALO 4: Sideshow's New Premium Format Statue Brings Cortana to Life

0
0

At least in a matter of speaking. HALO's resident A.I. will be the newest addition to the Premium Format line of statues, and while just a teaser, its looking good so far. One thing I'm eager to see is the finished base, and that might sound weird initially but here is why: The Premium Format line is expensive, but one of the reasons for that is the sheer scale of them, as they normally range from 16" to 22" tall. They also use actual fabric & material for the costumes, accessories, etc. The thing is, Cortana has almost none of that. Her costume is basically painted on (she is a hologram after all) and she doesn't really have any accessories that jump out at me. Yes it's great to have an amazing statue, but if I'm paying a premium for this line anyway it does kind of seem like an odd choice. Not saying she doesn't deserve a statue, just not sure she's the best pick for the line.

As always, I'll wait to pass final judgement 'till I see the complete package, but what do you guys think? Anyone considering a pre-order? Let us know in the comments!

Matthew Vaughn in Talks to Direct STAR WARS EPISODE VII?

0
0

We know for a fact that Disney has been looking for a director to take on Star Wars Episode VII, there's been a small list of directors revealed, and it looks like one of those directors might actually be in talks with the studio to bring the next Star Wars film to the big screen!

A rumor comes from Collider who has a trusted source that says Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn is currently in talks with Lucasfilm and Disney to take on Episode VII. As speculated earlier, this could be the main reason why he dropped out of X-Men: Days of Future Past. It would make sense that Vaughn would jump out of that film project so abruptly. Hell, wouldn't you if you were offered the keys to the Star Wars universe?

Other directors rumored to be up for the movie include Steven Spielberg, Neil Blomkamp, Alfonso Cuaron, Darren Aronofsky and Joss Whedon. I would actually love to see Vaughn take on Star Wars, I have no doubt he would do an incredible job bringing it to life.

I really hope this rumor turns out to be true, because that would be pretty amazing! What do you think about the possibility of Vaughn directing Star Wars Episode VII?

Incredible Teachers Fighting to Keep Gamification in Classrooms

0
0

After attending a New York Comic Con Panel entitled Games and Learning, I was suddenly endowed with a remarkable yearning. With a panel of professors, teachers, scholars and theologians, many got to see an incredible connection between video games and a classroom.

The guidelines and rules of a classroom and a game mimic one another as they follow rules, victory conditions/rewards and genres. In order to facilitate critical thinking and harness players’ and children’s potential; their skills are put to the test to create an unprecise skill set for the future. What exactly does that mean you say? During your younger grade years, you are taught to obey rules, tie your shoelaces and count to 10. These skills set are completely unprecise skill sets as they are the beginning foundation to your ability to follow the law, take care of yourself and apply mathematic equations to situations. Same holds true for video games. During the preliminary stages of a game, you’re battling enemies with unprecise skill sets that will either later evolve into more power skills/combination of skills, or are apparent now to teach you something new in the future. The difference in video games and classrooms are that in games players act upon their own idea of a better skill set to complete a task. This evokes a determination to seek to be better skilled for reinforcement inside and outside the context of a game.

In regards to teachers, a certain degree of over stimulus interferes with the ability for a student to flourish on their own due to the process of control over the student's every task, ability and mental direction. A student’s prospective is hindered when its own potential results from the constant effort of not exceeding a teacher’s expectations. What Gamification does to counter the old teaching methods is it influences and encourages students to adopt processes and applications that will engage them in desired behaviors combining the elements of game mechanics and uses it in the real world. According to Sue Parler at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne  NJ, Gamification in classes has kept kids in school engaged and obtaining good grades. She believes the old school system “simply doesn’t work anymore” as student these days are more interconnected and online with the use of iPhones, iPods, computers and video games. She believes children aren’t “hardwired” like they use to be, so engaging them the old fashion way fails every time. Connecting to kids with the same tech they are accustomed to closes the gaps for teachers to reach students. Sue believes using game mechanism to motivate students has a higher probability for them to respond to well.  Demanding students to follow methods that were used 10 years ago is completely obsolete and impractical.

Gamification is used in a slightly different way in other classrooms. Underfunded schools with old teaching skills are inadequate to combat issues related to gang wars, underpaid/understaffed teachers, and lack of supplies. As a teacher at Newark, Justin DeVoe uses games mechanisms to bring kids not only to school, but to work together even if they are rivaling gang members. Justin divides his classroom into guilds and uses guild gaming mechanisms to get kids to work, teach, and do homework together. For kids that arrive early to school, Justin allows them to play games before school starts. Most of his classes revolve around playing loud rock or metal music and talking about the mechanics of economy, skills and war in games like Halo, World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero. Justin's methods were so successful that he now teaches an English class in Newark Leadership Academy, an experimental reform school which received a $100 million dollar donation from Mark Zuckerberg to improve struggling school systems.

Most teachers like Sue and Justin are criticized and ridiculed for their attempts to divert from traditional failed teaching methods and apply Gamification into their classes. In order to help support these striving leaders, spread the word of their efforts. Encourage change in our school systems to better our students.

Video of Mark Hamill Talking About STAR WARS Episode VII in 1983

0
0

Here's an interestingly cool interview with Mark Hamill that was conducted by Maria Shriver back in 1983, and in it he talks about Star Wars Episode VII, and addresses the return of Luke Skywalker.

In the interview Shriver asks Mark if it was true that he was hired to reprise his role as Luke 18 years in the future, from the time of the interview. To which he replies, "ya see, it's either going to be on another plain of existence or not the same character, and I can't really tell you why without getting into any sensitive material."

It's kind of crazy to see how far in advance these stories were planned out, and that there actually was a plan to bring Skywalker back, a plan that looks like it is finally going to be followed through with! How awesome is that?! Check out the interview, and hit us up with your thoughts on it!

THE WALKING DEAD: A Eulogy To A Fallen Hero (Spoiler)

0
0

We are gathered here today to honor the life of a truly beloved character of the show. Some of you knew him as Theodore Douglas, but most of you knew him as T-Dog.  He was a quiet man, who only spoke to fill a silence, or perhaps, to recommend how to dispose of corpses.  He overcame a near fatal arm injury, a zombified world and adversity, all with silence and a stern stare.

So who was T-Dog exactly? Who among us can testify to his morality, his past, or his final heroic moments on this earth? The sad truth is, no one. Sad to say that T-Dog was never forthcoming about his life, nor was he one who spoke up when trouble started among the group. There were times in fact, that his silence was so well documented, that one might mistake him for not being present. In his death, he left the same way he entered each and everyone one of our lives -- in ambiguity with a giant shadow cast over his remarkable act of courage.

T-Dog shall be remembered as a silent hero none the less. He was seen as a man who never backed down in the face of danger. He sacrificed himself for a bunch of strangers to whom he had no emotional attachment or bonds to in any way. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, or a bullet to anyone in trouble.

And so we salute the silent guardian of the survivors and champion his life as an example to all those that knew him. Rest in peace Theodore Douglas... rest in peace.

Nicolas Cage Cast in THE EXPENDABLES 3

0

It seems like Nicolas Cage will be in any movie these days. It was previously rumored that he was wanted for The Expendables 3, and today Sylvester Stallone has confirmed that Cage will in fact be in the movie. It's also been confirmed that they are still trying to get Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes, as well as get Mickey Rourke back on board. I guess Cage seems to fit the criteria to be in this movie. He's been in plenty of films where he's running away in slow motion as something expodes behind him. This is what Stallone said on his Facebook page:

We are preparing the film with the same passion and commitment as the previous two. We have confirmed Nicolas Cage, a master actor who gives a veneer intellectual group. Hopefully we can realize to Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes and Mickey Rourke. That is the great mission of the producer. We will continue with the same narrative scheme, the agility and the frenzy, which are inherent to the saga. What will definitely be the last? I can not guarantee. In principle it would be two deliveries, but the affection of the people encouraged us to work on a third. I guess as long as we amused ourselves by offering fun and people, we can continue playing ‘The Expendables’. For now we are not as expendable as it should and as some critics want.

As of right now there is no writer or director attached to the film, but it's going to get made. I've enjoyed both Expendables movies, they were just fun, entertaining movies, and it will be fun to see a third one. Especially if they are able to get Harrison Ford! Do you think Cage fits in with the world of The Expendables

IMDB's Top 250 Films in 2½ Minutes

0
0

IMDB has released a great video compilation of their top rated 250 films in only 2½ minutes. Here's a little note from the creator.

This is one incredible list of films/movies. If Peter Weyland wanted David to learn about cinema while the crew of Prometheus was still in hyper sleep, he'd probably have him go down the IMDB Top 250. This list does change infrequently, and I began the project over a month prior to November 1, 2012, so attention to my haters...Yes...I KNOW some of these movies are not on the top 250. 53 Titles to be exact (as of 11/1/12). However, none of my haters can tell me that any of these 303 titles do not exist on IMDB.b

From what I can gather, each film that makes it on the list has to have a rating of at least 8/10 on IMDB. After all this is a democracy, so each film does appear because of a substantial amount of votes. However, I couldn't put "The Avengers" in without "Ferris Bueller", and I wasn't going to let "Scarface" slide if "Bringing Out The Dead" wasn't in there too.

How many of the movies shown in this video do you think you've seen?

Guy Fawkes Prior To V FOR VENDETTA

0
0

Yes, believe it or not American readers, the 5th of November was observed long before Alan Moore and David Lloyd ever penned the now famous mask in the 1982 comic. Since the release of V For Vendetta the modern representation of the mask has been the primary image of every protest in the 21st century, but what was it like before? Well for starters, the 5th of November was not traditionally celebrated in memory of Guy Fawkes but more or less his failure to destroy the status quo in England

Yes, back in the day effigies of Fawkes were set ablaze by children and fireworks set off along the streets to celebrate the triumph of British society and the discovery of the plot before it came to fruition. The event itself is referenced loosely in other pieces of literature besides the graphic novels such as John Milton's Paradise Lost and William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Ironic that today several protesters don the mask of a man who was once burned on a yearly basis in memory of his ultimate failure. Want some more irony? Each year Amazon.com nets tens of thousands in sales of Guy Fawkes masks around the world. It's become the most popular mask sold, according to the site, and it's also licensed by Time Warner. Yes, that's right Occupiers/Anonymous, every time you purchase a mask you are effectively helping one of the companies you wish to go against. For those that may not like that concept too much (hopefully all of you) there are ample directions on how to create your own mask online.

So while the ultimate message of the popular graphic novel and movie is good and a great symbol of how a people can stand united and faceless against an oppressor...

Just remember remember come next November you may not know what you thought. For there once was a reason we let this old treason, fall away and be forgot.

S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series Starts Production in January 2013

Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are hard at work with Marvel developing the highly anticipated S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. There no information on when we will see the first episode hit, but we do know now that production will start in January or 2013. Casting directors in Los Angeles and New York are holding auditions for series regulars, recurring roles and guest stars. Here's what was included in a recent casting call...

S.H.I.E.L.D. will be independent from The Avengers film, and people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies can jump right in and understand the storylines. There will generally be new characters and agents who are not superheroes, and even though they are a large organization, they will be underdogs since they still exist in that superhero universe. Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in Iron Man I & II, Thor, and The Avengers. The series will center on his character. Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Ming-Na Wen has been cast as Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert.

If we're lucky we could see the show air during ABC's 2013 season line-up. I'm really excited to see where this series goes. I have no doubt it's going to be a big hit with fans.

It's no secret that James Bond is a ladies man, the guy loves women both the good and the bad. Here's a fun infographic that was created by Emma Price, who calls it a "Nymphographic", and posted on Visual.ly. It breaks down all of the woman that Bond has hooked up with over the last 50 years, and where each sexual encounter took place. How many people can say they got it on in a space shuttle?

Skyfall will be added to the list later after Price sees the moive. What fact did you find most interesting in this infographic?

STAR WARS Universe Theme Park Design and Illustrations

(Click the image to enlarge)

I have no doubt that Disney will be implementing more Star Wars attractions into their theme parks, and a lot of people speculate that one day we'll see a full on Star Wars Land section of the park. Hell! Maybe Star Wars will end up getting its own full theme park one day!

Above is a fun Star Wars theme park design that created by freelance artist Tom Hodges who's worked for Lucasfilm on various projects over the years. It was created a couple years ago for Orlando's Star Wars Celebration V. These aren't actual plans for a theme park, just something he did for the hell of it at the time. The map is based off an old 1966 Disneyland map.

Here's what Hodges had to say about George Lucas, the Disney deal and his artwork,

I’ve always looked at George Lucas as a modern-day Walt Disney. I always thought this was something that should’ve been done a long time ago, but I found out when I was doing the map that Disney had a contract with Lucasfilm that they could not put a Star Wars theme park in a country that has a Disney park. But now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, the sky is the limit.

Yes it is, now let's see that theme park actually happen! What do you think of the designs? Do you think Disney will ever make a standalone Star Wars theme park?

Full Trailer for Martial Arts Film THE GRANDMASTERS

0
0

For those of you like myself who enjoy watching martial arts films, then you're going to enjoy this new full trailer for The Grandmasters. The film was directed by Wang Kar Wai, and it looks like it's going to be an awesome kickass martial arts flick! It seems like it has a solid story, the fight sequences look fantastic and the cinematography is great!

The film is based on martial arts legend Ip Man, but this is a different take on the legend from Wilson Yip’s 2008 film Ip Man. The movie stars Tony Leung, Zhang Ziyi, Chang Chen, Zhao Benshan and Song Hye Gyo.

Here's the synopsis for the film:

With martial arts getting more popular in the Thirties, more people seek to learn them via the professionals at Foshan in Southern China. Some of the experienced masters like to challenge their counterparts and undergoing battles. To have their whole concentration, it is their practice to lock up the venues and no one is allowed to leave during battles. No food and no rest before reaching any results.

Ip Man is a young rich man extremely talented in martial arts, but he chooses to keep a low profile. Yet this doesn't keep him out of these troubles ahead. One day he is trapped in this battleground so he has to use every means in order to get out of there. The masters are amazed by his abilities. Master Kung and his daughter Kung Yi are amongst, and the latter is attracted to this newcomer.

A high warlord is assassinated by his own guard Yi Xian Tian. All masters in Foshan vow to take Tian down no matter what....

There's no word yet on when the movie will be released, but I'm looking forward to seeing it whenever it becomes available! Enjoy the trailer!
