HBO's Game of Thrones is in its offseason right now, and while the rest of us were getting hooked on Westworld, catching up with Black Mirror, or consuming other content until it returns for its highly-anticipated (but shortened) seventh season, the team at The Garo Studios is still soaking up the best of Westeros and putting together supercuts and tribute videos to the characters we know and love.

They've made videos celebrating The Night's Watch, Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and Ned Stark, and now they're here with one dedicated to the Stark family as a whole, set to a rousing, stirring score and featuring some of the most bittersweet moments of the family before they parted ways intercut with many of their deaths. There are spoilers galore for the series in here, but if you haven't caught up by now, what are you doing with your life?

RULES DON'T APPLY Trailer: Warren Beatty and The New Han Solo Explore 1950s Hollywood

Here's the final trailer for Warren Beatty's Rules Don't Apply, the Howard Hughes movie he's been trying to make for a staggering forty years. Beatty plays the eccentric Hughes in the film, while Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) plays an up-and-coming actress who begins a love affair with one of Hughes' drivers, played by Alden Ehrenreich (the upcoming Han Solo spin-off).

This trailer is sort of all over the place. There are stretches where it appears to be a straightforward comedy, but there are also a few moments where it feels as if there's maybe something a bit more sinister going on. Is Hughes going to try to make a move on the young actress? Is this love story going to turn into a weird love triangle? I'm sure if it was just a lighthearted comedy, Beatty wouldn't have had to spend forty years trying to get it made, so we'll see what happens when it hits theaters.

Alec Baldwin, Annette Bening, Haley Bennett, Candice Bergen, Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, Steve Coogan, Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris, Megan Hilty, Oliver Platt, and Martin Sheen also star, and Rules Don't Apply debuts at this year's AFI Film Fest before opening on November 23, 2016.

New Featurette Reveals Behind The Scenes Look at Pablo's Death in NARCOS

By now you've probably seen all of season two of Narcos, and even before it started you knew Pablo Escobar was going to die. Weeks after the second season arrived, Netflix has released a featurette taking a further look at the death of the drug kingpin and how it was interpreted in the show. Did you know they shot the death scene in the exact same location where Pablo was killed? Like Wagner Moura is laying face down in the exact same spot as Pablo once laid in that scene. As the actors and director state, it's a surreal feeling.

Watch the featurette below.

MUPPET BABIES is Coming Back To Television

The Muppet Babies are returning to television and I feel embarrassed to admit I'm excited about it. I remember watching the cartoon a lot as a kid and as soon as I saw the news, the theme song started playing in my head as if it never left:

Collider says the babies will return to television on Disney Jr., but this time in puppet form (seen in the header image above). I seem to remember the show being really good, but I wasn't even in school at the time, so I may be remembering it differently. The show is being worked on by Eric Shaw, who was a driving force behind SpongeBob SquarePants, so it sounds like the series is in good hands.

Am I weird? Are you excited for this? Please tell me you are.

Watch: Benedict Cumberbatch Assesses The Avengers' Injuries, Plus a New DOCTOR STRANGE TV Spot and LEGO Poster

Marvel Studios is gearing up for the release of its second feature film this year, Doctor Strange, so they've enlisted star Benedict Cumberbatch to appear in a fun little video promoting the movie. In it, he assesses some injuries sustained by The Avengers in this year's other Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War, and offers some suggestions for treatment. Below that, you'll find a brand new TV spot, as well as a LEGO Marvel Super Heroes poster that puts a blocky spin on the film's original teaser poster.

Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016, and you can read my full review here.

Gerard Butler Returning To Round Out His Action Trilogy With ANGEL HAS FALLEN

I haven't had a chance to see London Has Fallen yet, but I heard it wasn't nearly as good as Olympus Has Fallen, a legitimately enjoyable action thriller that features brutal, over-the-top violence and some truly ridiculous sequences. (I greatly preferred Olympus to that year's other "Die Hard in the White House" movie, White House Down.) But even though it may not be as well-reviewed as the original, London Has Fallen ended up making more money in the long run, and you know what that means: sequel time!

Deadline reports that original writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt and actor Gerard Butler are all returning for Angel Has Fallen, a third film in the franchise.

Butler will be back to star as Secret Service agent Mike Banning, who has spent his career keeping American presidents safe. This time, he’s the target. If his attackers can take down half of Washington D.C. with it, all the better. Among those at risk include the President, whose official Air Force One plane is code-named Angel.

No director has been attached yet, but I'm hoping they can pull someone in with some real style and panache. That's what you need with a ridiculous action premise like this...not Babak Najafi, who directed London. Give it to Neveldine/Taylor, or at least someone who will really embrace the absurdity of it while bringing a fresh approach to the action scenes.

Did you see London Has Fallen? Was it better than Olympus?

MAJOR LEAGUE and ROOKIE OF THE YEAR Mashup Pits The Indians Against The Cubs in The World Series

Just yesterday, we shared a bit of baseball-related entertainment when Will Ferrell resurrected his old Harry Caray impression from SNL for Jimmy Kimmel, and now we're back with yet another bit of fun surrounding this year's World Series matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians.

YouTuber Ross Taylor created this mashup of 1989's Major League and 1993's Rookie of the Year, which works fairly well for a bit before devolving into nonsense by the end (spoiler alert: it appears as if both teams win). Still, though, for those of us who grew up loving the baseball movies of this era, it's somewhat interesting to imagine the two batches of characters operating in the same universe.

Stuff For Movie Buffs: Ep. 43 — Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Review

THE INCREDIBLES 2 Will Hit Theaters One Year Earlier, But TOY STORY 4 Has Been Delayed Again

$

Here's a little release date shuffle that fans should enjoy. Deadline is reporting that Disney/Pixar has swapped release dates for Toy Story 4 and The Incredibles 2, which means that Brad Bird's superhero sequel will now arrive in theaters one year earlier than intended (June 15, 2018) and Woody and the gang will be back one year later (June 21, 2019).

Toy Story 4 was originally supposed to come out in 2017, so this is the second time that one has been delayed. Pixar has been hit or miss since the release of Toy Story 3 back in 2010, so on a personal level I was really hoping to see this sequel sooner rather than later, but I'm sure the delay will allow them more time to perfect the story and make sure it's a worthy follow-up that justifies coming back after the truly excellent ending of the third film.

On the other hand, Incredibles fans have been looking forward to a sequel for more than a decade, so I'm sure they're thrilled to hear that The Incredibles 2 is in good enough shape to bump forward on the calendar. Like fellow Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton before him, I think Brad Bird could use a hit after the somewhat disappointing Tomorrowland, though I would still like to see him return to live action again soon (remember, he did a solid job with Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol).

Before either of those arrive, though, we'll see Cars 3 on June 16, 2017, and Coco, the studio's "Day of the Dead" movie, arrive in theaters on November 22, 2017.

SHERLOCK Season 4 Premiere Date Announced!

Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman's Dr. Watson will be back for a fourth season of Sherlock. We already got our first teaser trailer, which you can watch below, and now the BBC has announced that it will premiere on January 1st, 2017! They also released a teaser image that you can check out below.

It was previously revealed that episode one will be titled "The Six Thatchers," and episode two will be called "The Lying Detective," There's no word on what the third episode will be called, but Cumberbatch seemed pretty excited about it when he said, "Oh boy, you have got a lot coming to you in episode three."

There aren't really any story details yet, but it's been said that this upcoming season will tell a dark story that will have consequences. Judging from the teaser trailer, it's going to be incredibly intense. During a previous interview with EWSteven Moffat said:

"The first series was all about the beginning of their friendship. Second about the formative stages, the love and fear and loss and all that. The third was good days, me and my pal and my pal’s wife. Those are golden days. The missing element in a lot of Sherlock Holmes adaptations is allowing it to be funny. There’s a lot of humor in Sherlock Holmes, and it’s ignored in a lot of adaptations. [Season 4] is going to be… I suppose you’d say… consequences. It’s consequences. Chickens come to roost. It’s dark in some ways—obviously it’s great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that—but there’s a sense of… things… coming back to bite you. It’s not a safe, sensible way to live. It’s hilarious and exhilarating some days, but some days it’s going to be bloody frightening.

"[Fans will be] desperate for series 5. We’re certainly going to put them through the mill. It’s going to be more of an emotional upheaval. Hopefully enjoyable and fun, all the things Sherlock must always be. It will be tough at times. Maybe that’s the word? A tougher series."

I can't wait to see where the story is going to take these two characters next!

Chucky from the CHILD'S PLAY Franchise Gets a Bishoujo Statue

Kotobukiya recently unveiled one of their latest bishoujo statues. This one features their version of Chucky from the classic horror movie franchise Child's Play. I love the creepy design of the statue, which comes from illustrator Shunya Yamashita, and how it goes from a cute Chucky girl to a deranged possessed killer.

Kotobukiya's horror movie lineup of characters reinterpreted in bishoujo style continues with frightening homicidal doll from Child's Play. In her classic overall and striped shirt ensemble with long stockings, Chucky looks better than ever in this interpretation by master illustrator Shunya Yamashita. But don't get too distracted or you'll miss that knife clutched surreptitiously behind her back in her left hand! The Child's Play Chucky Bishoujo Statue stands slightly under 8-inches tall.

If you want to purchase one for yourself, you can pre-order it at Entertainment Earth. The figure will be released in June of 2017.

J.J. Abrams' GOD PARTICLE Confirmed as Another CLOVERFIELD Film

It's been rumored for awhile that the J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi film God Particle could take place in the Cloverfield universe, and now that theory has been confirmed. The news comes from The Wrap, which also reports that Abrams and Paramount Pictures are planning more Cloverfield movies and that they hope to release a new film in the franchise every year.

God Particle is said to follow a "team of astronauts who make a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival in what is described as an altered reality." This is the original plot summary that was released when the movie was first announced:

After a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely, the terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.

The film features a great cast that includes David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O'DowdDaniel Bruhl, Ziyi Zhang, and Elizabeth Debicki.

I think it's kinda cool what Abrams is doing with this Cloverfield universe. I wasn't a big fan of the first movie in the franchise, but I absolutely loved 10 Cloverfield Lane. I know 10 Cloverfield Lane didn't start out as a Cloverfield movie, it was something that it evolved into. It makes me wonder if the same thing happened with God Particle. Either way, we'll be getting more of these films, and I'm curious to see how this next film ends up connecting to the universe.

What do you think about Abrams' and Paramount's plans for the franchise?

Marvel Reveals MONSTERS UNLEASHED! Variant Cover Art

Marvel has released several pieces of variant cover art for the upcoming new comic book series Monsters Unleashed! I'm really pumped up about this series, and I think the team working on it at Marvel is going to pump out some pretty fun monster stories.

The series was previously described as featuring "a massive, simultaneous attack on the Marvel Universe by all of these monsters." Now we have an official description that breaks it all down for you:

Raining down from the skies, rising from the depths of the oceans and emerging from beneath the very Earth itself – monsters are invading, destroying everyone and everything in their path! The only thing that stands in their way is an army of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel Universe! But even they may not be enough to stop these towering titans! It’s all happening in Monsters Unleashed as the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Champions, the X-Men, the Inhumans and more band together to stop complete and total annihilation!

 Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso explained:

“If there ever were a monster who stood 10 stories high or taller and created mayhem in the Marvel Universe over last several decades, they’re gonna be in the story.”

Writer Cullen Bunn added:

“It’s an all hands on deck situation, Imagine something like the Hulk, only much bigger. With the destructive force those creatures have, the heroes will have to mobilize much more quickly. The heroes find themselves very quickly in a situation where they have no downtime, they have no chance to take a breath. They’re moving constantly against what are essentially cataclysmic threats over and over again.”

It was previously explained that each issue will be illustrated by a different Marvel artist, and some of those artists include Steve McNiven, Leinil Yu, Adam Kubert, Salvador Larroca, and Greg Land

Monsters Unleashed will start being rolled out on January 18th, 2017. Check out the art below!

The Upcoming BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Movie Is a Story of Liberation

$

0

The Bride of Frankenstein is one of my favorite classic Universal Monster movies. It is such a beautifully told tragic story. Last year it was revealed that Universal Pictures was remaking the film and that it will contemporize the story, which I think is a stupid idea.

These new monster movies the studio is developing should have an old-time, period setting. As I've said before, that setting and tone is what makes these classic monsters creepy, legendary, timeless, and awesome.

David Koepp has already written a draft of the screenplay for the film, and in a recent interview with Collider, he talked about the script saying:

"I wrote a draft of that that seems to have gone over very well, and I think they’re figuring out their whole universe and when it will go. They got a few they’ve got to work on."

He goes on to say that that it's one of his favorite scripts that he's written and that it will tell a tale of liberation:

"I loved it. It’s one of my favorite scripts I’ve written in years because if you reimagine the Frankenstein story, it gets into so many issues of men trying to feel dominant over women. To create someone who then says, 'You don’t own me,' it becomes a tale of liberation. It was great. It was really fun, and I hope it gets going soon because I think it’d make for a great movie."

I guess anything unnaturally made that has a soul wouldn't want to be held back from living a true life. It would be frustrating as hell to feel like you're being held captive against your will. It's only natural that even a "monster" would want to be free from that. When talking about what it was like for him to work on the film, he said:

"How fun it is and how liberating it is. Narratively and stylistically to write a character who’s dead. She’s not a zombie. She’s a super-intelligent creature, but she’s dead, and that changes a person’s perspective."

He was finally asked about the what kind of creative freedom he had in developing the script for the film and if he had to keep it in line with the other Universal Monster films that they're developing. This was his reply:

"You get some of both, and I think they’re figuring that out as they go. I was in touch with the other people who were making Mummy and in touch with Universal and getting a sense of what they’re doing, because they can’t be wholly different movies, but each one is characterized by the personality of its creature. So the stories are dictated by the creature. In ours, the Bride is essentially a sympathetic figure. This tragic, hunted figure. And obviously the Mummy is a very bad entity that must be stopped. That’s not us. The troublemakers are the ones who would try to control her. To answer your question, we’re all from the same tree, but different kinds of fruit."

The studio wants Angelina Jolie in the role, but that casting has yet to be solidified. There's currently no release date for the film, but I'm Intrigued by what Koepp said here and curious to see what he's come up with for the movie.

Bryan Fuller Will No Longer Be the Showrunner of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

Bryan Fuller, who had a heavy hand in developing the upcoming CBS series Star Trek: Discovery is stepping out of the role of showrunner. Those showrunner duties are now set to go to executive producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts.

According to Variety, there are a couple of reasons that Fuller is stepping back. He has apparently just become so busy working on two other TV series — American Gods and Amazing Stories — and CBS didn’t want to delay Discovery any longer. The report also says there had “been some strain between Star Trek producer CBS Television Studios.”

Fuller has written the first two scripts for Discovery and has come up with the story arc and mythology for the new Trek realm. Discovery is gearing up to start shooting next month, and it will still follow his vision for the series. Fuller will stay on as an executive producer and will continue to be involved with shaping the show and coming up with stories. Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman is also expected to join the series in a top creative role to help out. CBS had this to say in a statement:

“We are extremely happy with the creative direction of Star Trek: Discovery and the strong foundation that Bryan Fuller has helped us create for the series. Due to Bryan’s other projects, he is no longer able to oversee the day-to-day of Star Trek, but he remains an executive producer, and will continue to map out the story arc for the entire season… Bryan is a brilliant creative talent and passionate Star Trek fan, who has helped us chart an exciting course for the series. We are all committed to seeing this vision through and look forward to premiering Star Trek: Discovery this coming May 2017.”

The new series is said to take place before the original Star Trek series, and it will feature a female protagonist who isn't a Captain and include an openly gay character. Fuller also previously revealed that the main female character will be referred to as “Number One.” For more information on the series click here

I’m looking forward to seeing how this series turns out. I just wish it wasn’t a part of this silly CBS All Access streaming service that fans will have to pay for. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s worth it.

Writer and Director Uwe Boll Is Retiring from Filmmaking

$

If you're familiar with Uwe Boll then you know he's a filmmaker who has made a lot of notoriously bad films in his career. He's mostly known for his terrible video game adaptations. Some of the films that he's made include House of the Dead, Bloodrayne, Far Cry, Rampage, Assault on Wall Street, and In the Name of the King

Well, for those of you who enjoyed trashing the director and his films, you'll be happy to know that he's announced his retirement. While speaking with Metro, Boll explained that he can no longer afford to make the movies that he wants to make.

“The market is dead, you don’t make any money anymore on movies because the DVD and Blu-ray market worldwide has dropped 80 per cent in the last three years. That is the real reason; I just cannot afford to make movies.
“I can’t go back to student filmmaking because I have made so many movies in my life, and I can’t make cheaper and cheaper movies at my age. It’s a shame. I would be happy to make movies but it is just not financially profitable.”

So in case you're wondering who it was that kept funding his films, it was himself. He revealed:

"I never had people giving me money. I’ve been using my money since 2005 and if I hadn’t made the stupid video game based movies I would never have amalgamated the capital so I could say, ‘Let’s make the Darfur movie.’ I don’t need a Ferrari, I don’t need a yacht. I invested in my own movies and I lost money.”

Damn. You know what? That says something about Boll. Even though his films weren't very good, the guy was freakin' passionate about filmmaking. No matter what people said about his films and his level of talent he still continued to make the movies he wanted to make the way he wanted to.

His final film will be Rampage: President Down, and when talking about how proud he is of the grit and realism of some of his films.

“It’s way better than Wall Street 2 by Oliver Stone. It’s better researched, it’s better written, it’s better, but it doesn’t have Michael Douglas. It’s not Jason Bourne or any bulls— movie where they make stuff up. My movies are real.”

That movie will eventually be released on Netflix, iTunes, and other streaming services. Even though I have a newfound level of respect for Boll, I can't say that I'll miss his films, because I won't. He does have a dedicated fanbase that will miss his films, though. What do you think about Boll retiring from making movies?

Donald Glover was recently a guest on Ellen and opened up for the first time about landing the coveted role of Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars film.

Fans seemed to be incredibly happy about the casting decision, and I have no doubt that he's going to be absolutely awesome in the role. During the interview, he revealed that he's always been a huge Star Wars fan and that his very first toy as a kid was a Lando action figure. He also said his mom told him not to mess it up.

"I told my dad immediately. My mom was in the back, she was like, ‘Don’t mess it up.’ She was like, ‘Don’t mess this up!’ Cause Billy Dee [Williams] is like—that’s hers."

Glover has come a long way since his days of Derrick Comedy and doing stand-up comedy. After Mystery Team was released his career completely took off. Now he's got a great show on FX called Atlanta, and he's playing Lando in a new Star Wars movie!

You can watch the full interview with Glover and Ellen below.
