STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS Probably Heading to Disney XD

While the announcement of Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm surprised the world earlier this week, there were (and still are) a lot of questions left to be answered. But when it comes to Star Wars: The Clone Wars, things seem pretty cut and dry.

Since Disney now owns the Lucasfilm library, it's safe to assume that THR's guess about the future of the series is right on the money. It makes sense that Disney would move the property from its home at Cartoon Network over to Disney XD, the home of animation like Tron: Uprising, and hope the show's viewers will follow it over. Turner, owned by Time Warner, has a contract with Clone Wars to run only through the rest of this 2012-2013 season, so this move should be happening sooner rather than later. No big deal. But here's something interesting to think about...

A live action Star Wars show has been in talks for a decade, but now that Disney/Marvel is hoping to translate the success of The Avengers into a "S.H.I.E.L.D." spinoff show on ABC, it's not too big of a leap to wonder if the Mouse House will try a similar tactic by finally getting that live action Star Wars series off the ground and onto that same network. I feel like they'd need to do some rebranding, considering ABC isn't exactly the place one automatically thinks of when geek friendly, broad scope television comes into the equation, but we're getting a bit ahead of ourselves, so we'll wait to speculate more on that until something concrete comes up.

First Look at Huntress in ARROW

I don't know if you've been watching Arrow or not, but if you haven't, you should. The show is really freakin' good! Thanks to EW we have our first look at Jessica De Gouw as Helena Bertinelli a.k.a. The Huntress. Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg talks about the character saying,

She is the dark mirror version of Oliver, and it was a nice contrast to him because he’s pretty extreme. He goes a lot further than not only his comic book version but lots of comic book characters — most have a code of draws the line against killing... Oliver has taken the darkness inside with him and is doing something positive with it. She’s taken the darkness inside her and is seeking revenge and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process.

So far the character is only set to appear in two episodes, but we'll most likely see more of her. Kreisberg goes on to say,

We certainly set her up as an interesting foil for Oliver and we’re excited to see where else we can take her.

Huntress will debut on Arrow in the episode titled "Vendetta", which airs on November 28th. If you've been watching the show, what have you thought of it? If not, why aren't you watching?!

DELTA ZULU - Zombie Movie Concept Trailer

Here's a fun concept trailer for a zombie film called Delta Zulu. It was created by a little production company called Warehouse 1904, and here's the synopsis:

Humanity has survived what seemed to be the apocalypse, but a threat still remains. Delta Zulu follows Clark, a freelance reporter who will be amongst the few civilians ever allowed into a Red Zone, a lawless quarantined area that still breathes war. Clark has been embedded with a team of mercenary contractors from White Shield International, one of the thousands of Private Military Companies that travel into The Zone on a daily basis to fulfill contracts for the government, large corporations, and private individuals. Clark attempts to find a story amongst a group of forgotten soldiers in a forgotten war and gets more than he bargains for.

The movie looks good, and they've been working on it for a few years. I think you might enjoy it, check it out and let us know what you think! Thanks to GT reader David Anderson for the heads up!

Trailer for the Animated Adventure ESCAPE FROM PLANET EARTH

The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for their upcoming sci-fi animated adventure Escape From Planet Earth. The movie stars Brendan Fraser, Rob Corddry, Jessica Alba, James Gandolfini and Sarah Jessica Parker. Disney and Pixar have pretty much cornered the market on animated films, they know how to do it right, everything else just doesn't seem to reach the bar that they've set. This doesn't look that good to me, but I'm sure my kids would enjoy it.

Here's the Synopsis:

The 3D animated family comedy catapults moviegoers to planet Baab where admired astronaut Scorch Supernova (Fraser) is a national hero to the blue alien population. A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy, by-the-rules brother, Gary (Corddry), head of mission control at BASA. When BASA's no-nonsense chief Lena (Alba) informs the brothers of an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet, Scorch rejects Gary's warnings and bounds off for yet another exciting mission. But when Scorch finds himself caught in a fiendish trap set by the evil Shanker (Gandolfini), it's up to scrawny, risk-adverse Gary to do the real rescuing. As the interplanetary stakes rise to new heights, Gary is left to save his brother, his planet, his beloved wife Kira (Parker) and their adventure hungry son Kip.

The movie comes out on February 14th, 2013. Watch the trailer and let us know if you'd go out to theaters to watch this movie.

John Cusack to Develop and Star in Rush Limbaugh Film

$

This is the third project John Cusack has been attached to this week! The actor will develop a film based on right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh. Cusack will play Limbaugh in the film.

The film is called Rush, and Betty Thomas (The Brady Bunch MovieAlvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel) is attached to direct it. With those kind of terrible kid movies under her belt, I'm surprised Thomas got a directing gig like this. It's also really hard for me to picture Cusack playing this guy.

I know who Limbaugh is, but I don't listen to his show, and don't really know that much about him. Here's a little rundown from the Seattle Times,

Limbaugh is in the front ranks of colorful and provocative media figures. Earlier this year, Limbaugh called a Georgetown law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" on air for arguing to Democrats in Congress that health plans should pay for contraception.

This week, the host mocked Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his "bromance" with Obama after Christie praised the president's response to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Cusack was recently set to star in Stephen King's Cell and an aerial action-thriller called Airspace. What do you think about Cusack playing Rush Limbaugh?

Jude Law Joins Werner Herzog's QUEEN OF THE DESERT

Remember that time when Jude Law was in almost every movie being released? It was the year 2004 and during that year he starred in six or seven films -- the guy was an acting machine! I'm actually kind of glad he slowed things down. He's a great actor, but there was a time when I just couldn't stand seeing him in the movies.

Law has joined Naomi Watts and Robert Pattinson in a period drama called Queen of the Desert, written and directed by Werner Herzog

Watts plays Gertrude Bell, an explorer, writer, archeologist and attaché for the British Empire, who is credited with helping to catalyze the formation of the Middle East at the dawn of the 20th century. The film is scheduled to start shooting in Morocco in March 2013.

What would you say your favorite Jude Law movie is?

Kristen Stewart Joins Ben Affleck in FOCUS

Warner Bros. has cast Krsiten Stewart as the female lead alongside Ben Affleck in the con artist film Focus. The film was written and will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Reque (Crazy Stupid Love).

The story follows a veteran con man who partners up with a girl who's new to the grifter life.

Ficarra and Reque were originally looking to cast their Crazy Stupid Love stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the lead roles, but apparently things didn't really work out with that. Once Affleck finished up Argo, they cast him. Gosling and Stone, who have frequently been paired up, definitely would have made this movie more appealing.

What actor combo is more appealing to you? Stewart and Affleck, or Stone and Gosling?

Must Watch Thrilling Short Film THE SECRET NUMBER

$

Not all short films have to have impressive special effects to make them great. I love coming across short films, and we've featured a few that ended up getting picked up by studios. Some have been good, others have been mediocre. I still think there's a belief out there that special effects make a story better, I don't believe that. What makes a film great is a solid story and script. Sure, special effects give us some eye candy, but it's pointless if the story is shallow.

Here's an awesome live-action short film called The Secret Number with a solid story that doesn't rely on special effects. It was created over a period of two years by a team of young filmmakers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. It was directed by Colin Levy, and it's based on the short story by Igor Teper. It's a really refreshing short film that I think most of you will like.

Here's the synopsis:

Dr. Tomlin, a psychiatrist, has a disturbing conversation with one of his patients – a brilliant number theorist hell-bent on proving the existence of “bleem,” a secret integer between three and four.

Absurd as it may be, Tomlin can't shake the idea. After a particularly troubling psychiatric session, Tomlin begins to dig deeper into the nature of his patient's delusion - but only uncovers more questions. When the mathematician mysteriously disappears from the hospital, Tomlin rushes into the hospital to behold a final message -- confirming his hunch that their fates are deeply entwined.

I hope you enjoy this short. When you're finished watching it let us know what you think!

I,ROBOT 3D Blu-ray Review

Will Smith has once again proven that he is the king of sci-fi action thrillers with Alex Proyas' I, Robot. The film recently arrived on Blu-ray in 3D and I had the chance to check it out. Unfortunately, I missed this film in theaters when it was first released, but have since seen it a number of times on the small screen. Watching it on Blu-ray surpasses all past viewings and on top of that, it has been converted to 3D.

Isaac Asimov's short story collection is the inspiration for this film that also stars Bridget Moynahan, Alan Tudyk, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell and Chi McBride. The film is set in the year 2035, robots are an everyday household item, and everyone trusts them, except one, slightly paranoid detective (Smith) investigating what he alone believes is a crime perpetrated by a robot. The case leads him to discover a far more frightening threat to the human race.

I, Robot is no Avatar, but it looks a lot better than I expected in 3D. I prefer animated films in 3D, but the amount of CG used during the intense robot action sequences were well worth it. The human eye can not truly tell a major difference between a movie shot in 3D, and one that is converted. The conversion process has come a long way, but is still not on par with a movie that is shot in 3D.
I have been a fan of Proyas' work since Dark City, and really loved seeing what he could do with a big budget in I, Robot. I love his use of dark tones and lighting in his movies. Will Smith really came into his own with this role of a damaged anti-hero. The supporting cast is great as well but, let's face it, Smith and the robots are your main reason for watching this movie. The colors and sound are fantastic on this Blu-ray, even if you do not have a 3D TV.

Unfortunately, the disc does not come with any new special features. The original features from the initial DVD release have been ported over. They include an audio commentary with director Alex Proyas and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, The Making of 'I, Robot,' a still gallery, and a trailer for Arrested Development.
If you are looking for a fun sci-fi action flick on Blu-ray and/or 3D, then I, Robot is for you!

Vampire Hunter TV Series Coming from Sam Mendes

$

James Bond Skyfall director and screenwriter, Sam Mendes and John Logan, are teaming up to develop a new vampire hunter TV drama. Logan wrote the script and Mendes is set to produce and possibly direct.

According to Deadline, the series is described as "an origin story set in the 1800s London in the vein of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which also was set in 19th century Europe, including London, and featured an assortment of fictional literary characters. The Logan/Mendes project features such characters as Van Helsing and Doctor Frankenstein as they hunt for vampires."

The series will end up on one of the premium cable networks, and it sounds like it will be an awesome series that audiences will tune in to watch. It's being created by a couple of incredibly talented individuals, so I don't see how it won't be good. What do you think of the concept?

As far as Skyfall goes, it's doing incredibly well! It hasn't even been released in the U.S. yet, but it's breaking box office records.

Here's our first look at Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas and Kevin Kline in the upcoming comedy Last Vegas

The film is being directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure) and the story follows a man (Douglas) preparing to marry a woman half his age, and his three childhood friends accompany him to Las Vegas for a wild bachelor party.
