Marvel has released a few more TV spots for Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange, and they feature little bits of some exciting new footage. If you're excited about seeing the movie, then you might enjoy watching these. I've been waiting for this movie for years, so I'll take whatever I can get! One thing is for sure, this is going to be a crazy fun mind-bending magical adventure!

He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying, and totally mind-bending journey.

Insane New Animated Web-Series About a Giant with a Tank Head

You've got to watch this first episode in a new animated web-series called Tank Head. It was created by Richard Boylan, who is the cinematic designer for the game Mass Effect: Andromeda. The story revolves around a giant who literally has a tank for a head. It's absolutely ridiculous and extremely action-packed.

The animation was done in a rotoscope style, and the creator explained to io9 that it’s "about a guy landing in the middle of a non-specific war." He doesn't give a reason why, he just explains that he wants people to interpret it for themselves, saying, "I’d rather let people invent their own meaning behind the imagery.”

The visuals of this thing are insane! There's no word on how many episodes we'll see, but the next one will come out in a couple of weeks. Each one is said to have its own unique visual style, so that should keep things interesting.

Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood Set to Star in Stephen King's GERALD'S GAME

Last month we learned that the film adaptation of Stephen King's 1992 novel Gerald's Game would be produced by Netflix. Oculus and Ouija: Origin of Evil director Mike Flanagan was hired to helm the project back in 2014, and now he's got himself a great leading cast to work with!

Netflix announced that Carla Gugino (Watchmen) and Bruce Greenwood (Star Trek into Darkness, Star Trek) will star as Jessie and Gerald in the twisted suspense thriller. These are two incredibly talented actors who are going to be perfect in these roles.

Gerald’s Game follows Gerald and Jessie Burlingame, who have gone to their summer home on a warm weekday in October for a romantic interlude. After being handcuffed to her bedposts, Jessie tires of her husband's games, until things take an unexpectedly tragic turn. Still handcuffed, she is trapped and alone. Painful memories from her childhood bedevil her. Her only company is a hungry stray dog and the voices that populate her mind. As night comes, she is unsure whether it is her imagination or if she has another companion: someone watching her from the corner of her dark bedroom. This is a great story and it's going to make for a very interesting film.

The director said in a statement:

“Gerald's Game has been my dream project for nearly twenty years. As a lifelong fan of Stephen King, it is a true honor to be trusted with this amazing material. I am deeply grateful to my long-time partner, Trevor Macy, and to my new partners at Netflix, for making this dream project a reality. This is one of the reasons I wanted to make movies in the first place.”

Flanagan wrote the script for the film with Jeff Howard (Oculus, I Know What You Did Last Summer), and Gugino and Greenwood will be joined by a supporting cast that includes Henry Thomas (E.T., Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gangs of New York), Carel Struycken (Men in Black), Kate Siegel (Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus), and Chiara Aurelia (Agent Carter, Big Sky).

This is a crazy story, and I can't wait to see how the movie turns out!

This A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Poster Art Form Mondo is So Damn Cool!

If you're a fan of Wes Craven's classic horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street, you're gonna love this poster art that was created for Mondo. The poster is stunning, and it was created by artist Matt Ryan Tobin

The poster debuted this past weekend at Alamo Drafthouse’s Never Sleep Again marathon in which they screened all seven Elm Street films over the course of 12 hours. That's something that I did in the comfort of my own home last Halloween, and it was a ton of fun! I love these films.

The poster wonderfully captures the hauntingly terrifying vibe of Freddy Kreuger. The regular edition is above, and below, you'll find the variant. The posters go on sale today, Tuesday, October 18th. Make sure to follow Mondo on Twitter for the on sale announcement.

A second full trailer has been released for director Justin Kurzel's feature film adaptation of Assassin's Creed. It's flooded with new footage of Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch kicking some ass during the Spanish Inquisition. The trailer also offers up some new story details and shows some fun and interesting visuals that mix together the present with the past. The movie actually looks like it could be pretty awesome!

Assassin’s Creed co-stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams, who you will get to see fight alongside Fassbender in this trailer along with a few others.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Produce the Film Adaptation of CAPTAIN PLANET

The classic 1990s animated series Captain Planet has been on the road to a live-action feature film adaptation for years. The project is being set up at Paramount Pictures, and they are teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions to bring it to life.

If the deal comes together, DiCaprio will serve as a producer on the film, and the studio will hire Sons of Anarchy scribe Jono Matt and Scream Queens star Glen Powell to write the script.

I was never a big fan of the original series, but it follows five teens from North America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Asia, and South America. They are given powers by the Earth spirit, Gaia, so they can protect the planet from the devastation of evil polluters. When their powers aren't enough, the teens come together and summon Captain Planet.

According to inside sources, the story for the film "takes place years after the adventures of the show, with the Captain now a washed-up has-been who needs the kids more than they need him."

Sounds like the kind of film that DiCaprio would want to be a part of because the guy is a huge "save the planet" kind of guy. Even though I was never really into the series, I'm kinda interested in seeing how this movie turns out.

As of this moment there are no directors or actors attached to star in the film.

One of the episodes from the classic 1967 Spider-Man cartoon series has been recreated by dozens of talented artists. The project is called Spider-Man Re-Animate, and it was produced by Grantray Lawrence Animation and posted on Vimeo by editor Ron Doucet.

Each artist used their unique style to bring the 12-minute episode to life, and it gives it a very unique, obscure, and fun flare. The episode is titled “Vulture’s Prey," and it was presented at the Nocturne At Night Arts Festival in Canada. Here's the description:

Animators from all over the province spent the past year re-creating this episode by re-making all the scenes from this episode in their own personal styles.
Produced for the 2015-2016 'Nocturne At Night' Arts Festival, in collaboration with the Digital Animators of Nova Scotia. Based upon the classic 1967 Spiderman episode 'Vulture's Prey'.
‘SPIDER-MAN RE-ANIMATE’ was created by fans of Spider-Man comics, television series, films, and merchandise. ‘SPIDER-MAN RE-ANIMATE’ is considered a parody and is intended to be shared for free, not for profit. We made this project purely for fun and for free.

Ahsoka STAR WARS Novel Reveals the New Canon Reason Sith Lightsabers Are Red

Thanks to the latest Star Wars novel, Ahsoka, written by E.K. Johnston, we have our first in-canon explanation of why the lightsabers of those who follow the dark side are red. This has never been explained in the films, we just accepted it because red is a villainous color, but there's so much more to it than that, and it's different from the previous expanded universe explanation. In the expanded universe red sabers are powered by synthetically made crystals which the Sith use because the Jedi had control of all the natural sources.

ScreenRant recently posted a list of fifteen things revealed in the novel, and this was one of the more interesting. I'm sure some of you have wondered why the Sith are never carrying around blue or green lightsabers, and the new answer is... because they simply can't. Here's the explanation:

Kyber crystals choose Force users and present themselves to their desired owner, but darksiders don’t experience this same connection to the crystals. The only way the Sith and other dark side Force users can collect kyber crystals is by stealing them or plundering them off the bodies of their fallen foes. Even if a dark sider were to acquire a kyber crystal from a green or blue, the act of bending the crystal to their will in a new lightsaber will cause the crystal to “bleed,” turning it red.

I love the explanation that the Sith bending the crystal to their will causes it to bleed red. Kyber crystals can be found in several places in the Star Wars universe, including Jedha, which was featured in the most recent trailer for Rogue One. I imagine those crystals are the reason The Empire invades Jedha in the first place.

The book also drops a couple of details about the eighteen years Obi-Wan Kenobi was in exile on Tatooine. In the story we learn that Obi-Wan uses the force to briefly make contact with his deceased master, Qui-Gon Jinn. He also visits the grave of Anakin Skywalker’s mother, Shmi, where he apologizes for not being able to keep Anakin from turning to the dark side.

What do you think of the new canon explanation?

Doug Liman Is Developing a JUMPER Sequel Series for YouTube Red

YouTube Red has just ordered a handful of new series for audiences to watch. They include a sequel series to the teleportation thriller Jumper, which Doug Liman is attached to direct; a time-travel series from Dwayne Johnson tentatively called Lifeline; and an eSports series from Community creator Dan Harmon.

The Jumper sequel series is called Impulse, and it's based on the third novel in the Jumper book series. The story for it centers on "a rebellious 16-year-old girl, who has always felt different from her peers and has longed to escape from her seemingly quaint small town. When a local drug dealer attempts to assault her, she discovers her extraordinary ability to teleport. This newfound power confirms her conviction that she really is different from everybody else, but it now makes her the focus of those who want to control her."

This sounds like it could be a fun series. I thought the movie was ok, but it should have been a lot better. Liman said in a statement:

“Steven Gould’s sequel novel to Jumper, Impulse, fully realizes the dynamic potential of this amazing franchise and I’m excited to have the large canvas of YouTube to bring it to life."

Johnson's Lifeline is a half-hour series that's set in the not-too-distant future. The series is said to be about a "little known life insurance company that sends its agents forward 33 days in time to prevent the accidental deaths of its clients. The company’s best man, Charlie Hooks, has never missed a save — until one case changes his life forever."

I really like the concept of this series, and it could turn out to be great! Johnson seems to make smart decisions when it comes to the projects he's involved with. He wouldn't be one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood if he didn't!

As for Harmon's eSports series, it will star YouTube personalities Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson of Game Grumps. The story follows "a newly formed team of eSports players trying to make it to the top in the cutthroat world of competitive gaming." It has received a six-episode order and will air on the Game Grumps YouTube channel in 2017. With the rising popularity of eSports, this has the potential to be a pretty successful series.

Looks like YouTube Red is building itself a solid set of original series for us to watch. Hopefully, they all turn out well.

THE GHOST OF YOTSUA: Fun 1950s Horror Movies to Watch During Halloween

The Ghost of Yotsuya is required viewing material for anyone who loves horror films. It tells a legendary eerie tale of betrayal, murder, and ghostly revenge! It’s one of the most famous Japanese ghosts stories of all time and was a huge influence on the Japanese horror films that we see today.

The story is based on the 1825 play Tōkaidō Yotsuya Kaidan, which was written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV. The basic premise of the story follows a woman who haunts her husband after she dies a miserable death.

A ruthless samurai named Iemon Tamiya wants to marry a woman named Iwa, but after her father refuses, “Iemon kills him and disposes of the body with assistance of Naosuke. Later, tiring of his wife and wishing to marry the heiress Ume Itō, Iemon plots to murder his wife by mixing a poison into her tea and also killing her admirer Takuetsu. Her health deteriorates into a slow agonizing death. The ghosts of Iwa and Takuetsu appear and take vengeance on Iemon and his new wife.”

The story has been adapted for film over 30 times, but director Nobuo Nakagawa's The Ghost of Yotsuya is considered the best one out of all of them. This is one of those films that you have to see. It’s just an old fashioned creepy movie that any true movie fan will appreciate.

If you haven’t already seen it, it’s currently available to watch on Hulu under the title Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan. You can find the trailer for it below. It's been so long since any information has come out about it, I almost forgot Twin Peaks was coming back to television! Today the world is reminded as Kyle MacLachlan and the cast talk about returning to the series for the first time in a couple decades. From the interviews, it sounds like it was a surreal experience for everyone involved!

The cast seems very excited about the series revival, so hopefully that's a good sign for the show. New episodes of Twin Peaks begin in 2017, but no official date has been given as of yet.

If you liked the heart-pounding first-person action of Hardcore Henry, you're going to like this music video! Ilya Naishuller, the movie's director, teamed up with artist The Weeknd to film the music video for his latest song "False Alarm." Both the song and music video are pretty great:

In case you missed his first single, The Weeknd also teamed up with Daft Punk for an even better song, "Starboy," (which is the title of his upcoming album) with an equally cool music video you can check out here:

Thanks to Bloody Disgusting for the director tip on the first video.

Kevin Costner Could Join Jessica Chastain in Aaron Sorkin's Directorial Debut MOLLY'S GAME

$

I'm a big Jessica Chastain fan, and one of her upcoming films I'm looking forward to the most is her collaboration with famed writer Aaron Sorkin. The writer is making his directorial debut with Molly's Game, a film based on the stranger-than-fiction true story of Molly Bloom (Chastain), a former Olympic hopeful who went from being a Los Angeles cocktail waitress to running secret, high stakes poker games for some of Hollywood's most elite A-list actors (including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tobey Maguire). Idris Elba is also attached and Michael Cera joined the cast recently, but now Deadline reports that an actor with a bit more gravitas than Cera is in talks to come on board: Kevin Costner.

Costner is being eyed to play the father of Chastain's character, though the site cautions the deal isn't complete yet. I don't think Costner has been involved with a Sorkin project in his career yet, so I'd much rather to see him play around with some of that rapid-fire dialogue instead of trying to follow in Liam Neeson's footsteps as an aging action star. Here's the synopsis of the book on which this film is based:

Molly Bloom reveals how she built one of the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker games in the world—an insider’s story of excess and danger, glamour and greed.
In the late 2000s, Molly Bloom, a twentysomething petite brunette from Loveland Colorado, ran the highest stakes, most exclusive poker game Hollywood had ever seen—she was its mistress, its lion tamer, its agent, and its oxygen. Everyone wanted in, few were invited to play.
Hundreds of millions of dollars were won and lost at her table. Molly’s game became the game for those in the know—celebrities, business moguls, and millionaires. Molly staged her games in palatial suites with beautiful views and exquisite amenities. She flew privately, dined at exclusive restaurants, hobnobbed with the heads of Hollywood studios, was courted by handsome leading men, and was privy to the world’s most delicious gossip, until it all came crashing down around her.
Molly’s Game is a behind the scenes look at Molly’s game, the life she created, the life she lost, and what she learned in the process.

Chewbacca Rips Unkar Plutt's Arm Off in THE FORCE AWAKENS Deleted Scene

In an attempt to entice you to buy the 3D collector's edition of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams and crew are adding even more deleted scenes and features to the new release of last year's Star Wars film. In this clip provided by Entertainment Weekly, we see Unkar Plutt (played by Simon Pegg) confront Rey when they are in Maz Kanata's bar. Chewbacca intervenes and, in a sequence immediately following what happens in the clip below, rips Unkar Plutt's arm off, sending it sailing onto a nearby table.

If you want to see the full scene, you'll either have to purchase the 3D collector's edition or just wait until someone puts the full thing up on YouTube. The collector's edition drops on November 15, 2016.

The scene is a callback to the classic exchange between C3PO and Han Solo:

Remember that gross scene where we finally saw what happened to Barb in Stranger Things? Netflix decided to make an appetizing meal out of it! Yeah, it's not your imagination, that's a recreation of her face you're seeing in the bowl above! I about lost it when I saw how they created her face out of dough! I'm sure the actress who plays her really appreciates that representation.

Anyway, if you're looking for that culturally relevant dish to knock the socks off your Halloween party, look no further. See how it's made in the video below.

Listen to J.J. Abrams' Commentary During THE FORCE AWAKENS' Heartbreaking Scene Between Kylo Ren and Han Solo

Disney and Lucasfilm are pushing the upcoming home video release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D collector's edition, so they've released a deleted scene of Chewbacca encountering Simon Pegg's Unkar Plutt in Maz Kanata's bar, and now they've unveiled a bit of writer/director J.J. Abrams' commentary during the pivotal scene between the villainous Kylo Ren and his father, Han Solo.

A lot of fans have wondered if Kylo was just screwing with Han out there on the bridge, assuming that he knew he was going to kill him the entire time, but in this clip (via USA Today), Abrams says that in his opinion, that's not the case:

The important thing, of course, is that once Abrams made the movie and released it out into the world, interpretations of what it means are up to us. You can choose to give him the last word on this subject as the author of the material, but I think if you have a different read on that scene and can support it with evidence from the text of the movie itself, that's just as valid.
